Re: So, guess who got his first RPG.net ban?
Here's how I look at it: there are a lot of people of privilege who view the world as zero-sum. If they have to stop saying, "That movie was gay" (as a slam) they're losing something. Instead of saying, " Huh, I hadn't thought about that," or, "Wow, I've been saying that sin...

Re: So, guess who got his first RPG.net ban?
Not taking anything from the community is a viewpoint from privilege. Again, I'll cite All Lives Matter. Sure, all lives do matter. Patently. OTOH, it's black people--primarily men--who are routinely gunned down by police as the first response (not a function of escalation). Privilege quite often pu...

Re: So, guess who got his first RPG.net ban?
There's a lot of sophistry going on in the video you cite. First, it has to be taken on a case by case basis else you end up with the ridiculous notion of physically having to ask someone for permission. That's not the point. Take cornrows. First, you have to understand the history of Black hair. Se...

Re: Punisher and well punishment.
There are two differences in play: Fiction vs RPG Team vs solo character In fiction, the author controls everything: from when/if the hero gets hurt, the degree s/he does so, and so on. In an RPG, a team-player can rely on allies to pull their fat from the fire vs a solo character who needs to have ...

Re: Tips for writing dialogue
My biggest pet peeve is when characters tell other characters things they [should] already know. Exposition like this is sooo lazy.
If you want a good example of how exposition is deftly handled, check out David Mamet's actioner Spartan.

Re: Marvel's Cinematic Netflix Universe: General Discussion
Right, the general public would probably make that comparison and that might very well lead the creators to think they'll lose money as no one would watch (in the case of commercial TV), or for a subscriber-based model (Netflix) that it wouldn't draw new viewers. OTOH, creators keep re-visiting fran...

Re: Marvel's Cinematic Netflix Universe: General Discussion
I hear a lot of people saying that X is a copy of Y (MK is a copy of Batman), but I don't buy it. If you look back at Batman's history, isn't he a copy of Dick Tracy? I mean all those villains of DT's are all in the same ballpark as Batman's, and I can't get past that. Sure, MK is a costumed crime f...

Bluff 12 (+15) Notice 12 (+15) Sense Motive 12 (+15) Vehicle 12 (+15) While not illegal, of course, I think maximized skills like this without addition of anything else to be rather one note. Equipment 7 (motorcycle, heavy pistol x3) Why buy pistols when you have them as HTL Devices? Eagle Eye (Har...

Re: CW Superheroes: The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow
I've given up on the other shows, but I still watch Supergirl mainly because I do so with my 10 year old niece--who loves it. I also GM her in our weekly get-togethers and that's a lot of fun (not M&M, but Fate Accelerated supers, which is the best at four-color). Anyway, my niece made the comme...

Re: PbP Leadership
Not every Flaw has equal impact. Not everything is balanced. I've seen GMs wholly ignore the Removable Flaw and let a battlesuit type get away with ~20 points over every one else. It comes down to how much attention a GM is paying. You might choose to play an Atlantean but the GM might never write a...

Re: PbP Leadership
I wouldn't allow a player to take this build with a Check Required Flaw and then also buy up their skill to make the Check Required Flaw moot. That's Rule 0.
Plus, I hate the way 3e handles this Flaw. It front loads it and potentially gives much more of a discount than a standard -1 Flaw would.

Re: Update to Forums
I'm a little bummed with the update because I was using list to indent things and now it automatically inserts a bullet for the first item even without a [*]. Also, it forces a HR after the list code, and it wasn't doing that before.
