Re: Jab’s Builds! (Atlas! Jolt! Charcoal! Elements of Doom! Blizzard!)

The Blank was obviously a means to an end, given he was such a throwaway character. He's a two-bit hood who is standing next to a chatty scientist who just happens to have invented a force field belt and the battery to recharge the belt, and is there when the scientist dies (either from a hit and ru...

The big three of DC is actually now I think Superman, Batman and Harley Quinn.
I think I threw up a little in my mouth reading that.

Re: J-Mart Prime: Question - Who Is Marvel's Big 3? Or is it 5?

I've often felt that Wonder Woman was kind of kludged into the Trinity at DC, as they kind of desperately *want* her to be there, but she's never been able to keep up the level of sales of Superman or (especially) Batman. But DC at least seemed to be trying. If nothing else, Pop Culture has kept Di...

Re: J-Mart Prime: Question - Who Is Marvel's Big 3? Or is it 5?

The tricky thing with Marvel having a "Big Three/Five" is that they typically always were "Team First; Solo Second", especially as their biggest book of the '60s was the Fantastic Four and their biggest book from the late '70s to the 2000s was X-Men , with nobody else even being close. Like, Wolver...

Re: Jab’s Builds! (MACH-1! Atlas! Vantage! Jolt! Charcoal!)

*Sidenote: Thinking about it, it'd actually be kind of interesting for a new team of demi-gods who are either distantly related by having the same common ancestor, or who are all descended from different gods and something awakens their ancestry. Granted, the former is basically Dynamo 5 and the la...

Re: Jab’s Builds! (MACH-1! Atlas! Vantage! Jolt! Charcoal!)

A clear sign of what a jobber Blizzard I was is his choice of costume. The guy had a pretty good outfit with that primarily blue one with the icicle stylings on the gloves, boots and eyes, and with just a LITTLE more white on it, it would have been a solid look. Yet he went from THAT "good but needs...

Re: Recommended Reading: Share Your Hidden Gems

Anyway, the comic that inspired me to start this thread was Hercules: Fall of an Avenger. These two issues follow Hercules' death, focusing on his funeral and the aftermath of his sacrifice. The Hercules of this time was one of Marvel's big success stories, getting a revamp much like Iron Fist that ...

Recommended Reading: Share Your Hidden Gems

So something I'm going to start doing, and something I freely suggest everyone else do, is recommend books, individual comics issues, creator runs, storylines or other stories that are just GOOD. I did that recently with my Spider-Man/Fantastic Four thread, but I think it might be served better to j...

Re: Troll (T-Bolts)

Because remember folks, women can be pigs too. :D Are there any recognizable pigs in there? Not that I recall, but that artist really isn't the best. If that had been someone like George Perez, Alan Davis or Mark Bagley I'm sure they would have fit in some recognizable faces, even with the jumpsuits.

Re: Jab’s Builds! (MACH-1! Atlas! Vantage! Jolt! Charcoal!)

Given Justin Hammer's age and apparent playboy lifestyle, the idea that he had an unknown kid wasn't as implausible as most. But I am curious what Alice Nugent's motivation would have been. As the eventual Doctor Spectrum, she seemed more like an extremist would-be hero than someone who would creat...

Re: Jab’s Builds! (MACH-1! Atlas! Vantage! Jolt! Charcoal!)

You know, I'll always be grateful to Fabian Nicieza for giving us the New Warriors, primarily the first 26 issues. But MAN did that guy just like to inject DRAMA into every book he was on. I mean, I understand that drama is a part of storytelling, but immediately once he took over he just dropped so...

Re: Jab’s Builds! (Songbird! MACH-1! Atlas! Vantage! Jolt!)

The Crimson Cowl really showcases the difference between Kurt Busiek and Fabian Nicieza. Busiek: "I'll go back into the history of Marvel and bring back this character, try to tie them organically into the story I'm telling and make the universe feel like a living, breathing world. It's important to...
