-Herding dogs can be family pets, but the "herding instinct" is so ingrained from generations of breeding that they can be found pushing children around and leading them. This gives them four ranks of "Herding", but only brings them to +6, since... well, they're dogs. On Shock's recommendation, I made it apply to Awareness, since they have this natural insight into where to go to "point" animals along.

Herding Dogs:
* The following dogs will use the same build.

Border Collie- PL 2 (27): Old mix of Roman & Viking dogs, becoming the greatest herder of them all thanks to its intelligence and speed. (Athletics +2, Herding -2)

I would let them use Awareness or Presence to herd. If you watch a good herding dog in action, I would put them at around +4 to +6 in skill. I've seen them herd toddlers quite effectively.

Hm, yeah, okay! I went with Awareness since it's less work to change it, and I can kinda justify it as semi-insightful :).

PP: Yes, but now I work for the United Nations.

I’m just going by the AKC website and listed weights. Apparently they max out around 18 kg (40-ish lbs), which is pretty small.

My inlaws have a basset hound, a rescue from the pound.
Apparently in spite of being a super friendly dog to people, it tended to hunt any animal (other than cats, he's terrified of those) that were smaller than it was. And a few that were a bit bigger.
So it was a great pet, so long as you lived in the city and not on a farm.

It is kind of funny how this lazy dog turned laying around into a tactic for hunting birds. It would literally lay under the bird feeder for hours until a bird made the mistake of landing right next to it's mouth...

-German Shepherds are one of the best all-around breeds on Earth, and #2 in the United States. Their physicality and intelligence makes them the perfect Police Dog, as they're smart enough to follow orders, fast enough to catch anyone, and strong enough to haul them down. They were formalized as a breed in Germany during the late 1800s and early 1900s (meant to create the ideal herding dog), and are often used in film as one of the standard "heroic" breeds- characters such as America's Rin Tin Tin and Canada's The Littlest Hobo (a crime-solving, helpful wandering dog), as well as Batman's pet Ace, The Bat-Hound. A German Shepherd is basically an amped-up version of the Retrievers.

-Similar stats would go to the Doberman Pinscher, a Guard Dog also bred in Germany, with a more "evil" reputation (you see them a lot as a villain's pets) and a much thinner, pointed appearance. They usually have their ears and tails docked in America- a practice made illegal in more countries than not, as far as I can tell.

-Rottweilers are an iconic example of a big, tough Guard Dog kind of dog, and they have a pretty bad reputation, thanks to the fact that a lot of hopped-up douchebags with something to prove buys one of these as a tough-guy status symbol- something that also afflicts the Pit Bull. Realistically, they can be made to be as good a family pet as any other type of dog. They're a powerful PL 4 fighting breed, stronger than some people, and with a really powerful bite, but are a bit on the slower side. They make PL 5 with their powerful Fortitude & Will saves.

A friend of mine summarized life with a big guard dog (specifically a Tibetan Mastiff) as: "He's the sweetest thing you can possibly imagine, but you need to understand that he's in charge of who can enter from that door... and god help you if you ever make a child cry."
"You're right. Sorry. Holy shit," I breathed, "heckhounds.”

One of my favorite stories about Rotties happened when I was 16 or so, Went to a local 7-11 on a pretty hot day to get a big gulp and play the video game it had. saw a young lady pull up in a red rodeo with the license plate ROTTI 1 and the bumper sticker the keys are on the front seat next to my rottweilers

I thought it was a bit funny and but was distracted by how cute she was 19-20 year old college girl. got to flirting with her and made her laugh. knew it wasn't going to go anywhere but what the heck she was cute as heck and funny herself

so she offers me a ride home because it was hot as the ass end of hell and I got into the car which I realized was still running. When I asked her why she wasn't worried about someone stealing the car she pointed to the back seat where I suddenly realized that not 1 but TWO full sized adult rotts were sitting comfy in the AC

thankfully they both liked me so the ride home was fun and comfy but I could see why she never worried even once about her safety
Dr. Silverback has wryly observed that this is like trying to teach lolcats about Shakespeare

Total: Abilities: 10 / Skills: 12--6 / Advantages: 2 / Powers: 6 / Defenses: 4 (29)

Era: Modern Day
Range: Anywhere there are people
Stereotypes: Stupid, noisy. Slow to move or react.

-Mastiffs are the largest, most robust breeds of dog, weighing in excess of 200 lbs., and generally getting their way through sheer size. However, they're lazy breeds by and large, requiring a ton of food and not getting that much exercise as a general rule. They are descended from the Molosser-type dogs that came about in Europe & Asia centuries ago, and bred for size and strength (these are the "Dogs of War" spoken of in Roman history). Like most dogs with such size, their life spans are brutally short (might not make a good family dog unless you want to traumatize your children at age 12). They're PL 3 through sheer size and weight, though those same qualities, with their relative timidity, actually hold them back a bit at fighting- they're the least-accurate canine breeds.
