-The only Opossum to inhabit the United States, even getting as far up as Canada, the infamous "Possum" is notorious to everyone who lives near them. Everyone I know who sees these lil' bastards considers them the devil in animal form. Despite that, they only live 2-4 years, even in captivity- it's implied that since they're easy prey for so many predators, they've never had to selectively breed to be longer-lived. Their famous "Playing 'Possum" trick (which is not only visually-convincing, but involves the leaking of pungent green fluid from the butthole) is an automatic response to intense fear- it discourages animals that eat live prey, and convinces other animals the creature is no threat to their young. It also results in a lot of deaths via car collision.

-Culturally, the animal is associated with hillbillies, as it was a cheap source of meat and once the most common game animal in the United States. It's now considered a bit gross to eat them, but "Possum" anything is now a buzzword to show someone is lower-class. The word "Opossum" just means "white animal" in Algonquin.

-Virginia Opossums are among the largest of their kind, being anywhere from less than a pound in females, to 18-lb. males. About the size of a very large cat, they can be fearsome, but are little threat to people.

I really think the Virginia Opossum should have Diehard and/or Great Endurance. They’re always a tough sumbetch.

I've had Possum meat(mostly as Jerky) and, despite the stereotype with it, it's a rather good source of Protien.

Complications:
Disabled (Animal)- Marsupials cannot speak to humans, nor use their paws to easily manipulate objects.
Disabled (Blind)- Marsupial Moles have long ago lost their sight- their eyes are undeveloped vestigial lenses underneath the skin, and have no pupils.
Weakness (Small Size)- At their natural size, Marsupial Moles are vulnerable to large creatures- even without good accuracy. Anything of Size Rank -2 or more (human size and up) using a melee attack on a tiny creature effectively strike with Burst Area Damage at their strength rank naturally.

Total: Abilities: -34 / Skills: 20--10 / Advantages: 5 / Powers: 28 / Defenses: 5 (14)

-In one of the most bizarre cases of convergent evolution ever, there exists a type of mole that isn't a mole at all- Marsupial Moles are actually pouched marsupials, but look like moles in every other way! These are actually eyeless mammals, having only vestigial attributes beneath the skin. Like most burrowing marsupials, their pouch faces the rear so that it won't fill with dirt when digging. Only two species are known- the Northern & Southern Marsupial Mole. Both are actually very common, and do not lack habitat space, being underground most of the time and away from most of their threats. They are solitary and seem to eat mostly larvae. Studies on them are uncommon, as they do not survive long in captivity.

-These animals are pretty well identical to Shrews, Moles & Gymnures, being exceptionally-tiny digging mammals weighing under a pound.

Colouring: Black, grey & white
Size: Up to 3 feet long (8-26 lbs.)
Encounter Groups: Solitary. Meet in groups of 2-5 to feed.
Diet: Any meat it can find.
Tactics: Lashing out with paws & teeth, all rapid-fire and berserk.

-An animal infamous for its wild nature and crazy fighting style, the Tasmanian Devil is most-famous for inspiring the Looney Tunes' Taz. About the size of a housecat, it is the largest carnivorous marsupial alive, and can easily kill animals twice its size owing to a comparatively huge head and mouth. They disappeared from the Australian mainland centuries ago, probably killed by the Dingos. The Devil is currently Endangered, with much of the population being threatened by a disgusting, contagious Facial Tumor Disease.

-At PL 2 offensively and PL 3 defensively, they're extremely nasty for such small animals.

-Quolls are very closely-related to Tasmanian Devils, and maintain a similar body plan, but are much smaller. Typically going from 9 lbs. to less than a pound, they are similarly vicious brawlers and predators. Smaller Quolls will catch small lizards and birds, while bigger ones will take rabbits and hares. Unlike Devils, they still live on Australia, though most are fairly endangered, having been outcompeted by introduced predators like cats & foxes. They are notable for their horrific, droning roars that echo deep into the night.

-There are six kinds of Quoll- Western, Eastern (extinct on the mainland- semi-common in Tasmania), Northern, New Guinean, Bronze (the largest marsupial predator on New Guinea), & Tiger Quolls.

-A Quoll is basically a Tasmanian Devil minus some hitting power and durability, now reduced to PL 2. Enough to kill a rabbit, but big dogs are a tremendous danger. Only a handful of the larger Quolls are this powerful, though.

-There are a handful of tiny predatory marsupials out there, most about the size of a mouse. These are all Dunyarids- the same family that includes Tasmanian Devils & Quolls (some of the smaller Quolls fit here). These are probably the most obscure mammals on Earth- I mean, I've never even heard of any of them but the Quolls!

-These tiny marsupials are only PL 1-ish, but are small, accurate hunters that specialize in killing arthropods, rodents and even other marsupials.

Types:
DUNNARTS: Dunnarts look very much like mice with pointy little noses. There are 21 known species, and a few are quite under-studied.

Image

WAMBENGERS: Also called Phascogales and "Mousesacks". There are three species- Brush-Tailed, Northern Brush-Tailed & Red-Tailed Phascogales. Shockingly, males live only for one year, dying after "a period of frenzied mating". They are small like Dunnarts, but have longer, furry tails.
MULGARAS: Tiny, fat-tailed marsupials.
KOWARI: Another rodent-like marsupial with a bushy tail. The only member of its genus, and assumed to be related to the others here.
KALUTA: Barely 40 grams, and semi-common in one region of Australia.

Image

PLANIGALES: Tiny "Marsupial Mouse" less than 40 grams, with some being only 5 g- the smallest of all marsupials- but still a predator.
NINGAUIS: Shrew-like marsupials that live for only 14 months.

Image

KULTARR: Strange "Marsupial Jerboa" with a bipepdal, hopping gait.
MARSUPIAL SHREWS: Two species hailing from New Guinea.
DIBBLER: Another shrew-like one, with a short, tapering tail. Thought extinct until some turned up in Western Australia- still Endangered.
DAYSURES: Four species of longer predators.

Image

NUMBAT: Numbats are small, banded marsupial predators, once widespread but now restricted to Western Australia, with only a single species remaining of what was thought to be two. They are long-tongued termite-eaters, unrelated to any other marsupials.
SMALL QUOLLS: A few Quolls are less than a pound, and fit this scale a bit better. They include the Northern Quoll- the smallest, and vulnerable to cane toad venom, making them hard to keep alive on the mainland.
