Challenge from Reddit: you as PL10 in Real World

On Reddit, someone posted a challenge to make what PL10 you would want to be if you were operating in the real world, with two caveats:
  • Has to be a build you would allow as a GM.
  • Can't take the Benefit Advantage.
Being the M&M addict that I currently am, I'm going to post my answers here. Yes that's answers with an 's' at the end, because this will involve a lot of stat blocks.

Two main answers: one that accepts the burdens of fame from being a superhero and all the related Complications, and one that "flies under the radar" and lives a relatively normal life.

But the first one is going to have a big Summoning array as his main Power (yes, I allow the Summon Power as a GM), and the second has Metamorph 2 to switch between everyday life and emergency combat situations. And then there's Minions, Vehicles, and HQs to worry about. So yeah, this is going to be a lot of work.

Of course other people can post their answers to the challenge in this thread too. :D

First things first: the android Minion of the "subtle" version of superhero me. His purpose is basically to do busywork that I don't want to do myself, while pretending to be just a good friend/servant/roommate. Of course all versions of me have to take the Minion 5 Advantage for this to be legal; even so, this is stretching what I'd allow on a Minion as a GM (since he's so not-well-rounded), but hey, it's all in the name of fun.

Here's the "base" version of my superhero fantasy. The one I would spend most of my relatively-normal life living with. A lot of the smaller elements are inspired by me IRL, of course, as I still want to be me. :) This version, who "flies under the radar," is arguably a very selfish personality, not being willing to give his life to full-time superhero work. The "open" superhero is probably more what the original Reddit challenge had in mind, but I'll get to that later.

This form has no real offense in combat, but I'd allow it because it can Metamorph into combat-capable forms and at least has capped Defenses.

For the full-time-superhero-life version of me, I'm going back on what I said earlier and NOT making myself a Summoner build. Partly because I don't feel like making stat blocks for all the things I'd summon, and partly because it feels like the concept would step on one of the VordWarp characters I'm planning ... and partly because, would I really allow such a build as a GM?

So I'll be trying to come up with a build that's just one stat block (plus an HQ and maybe a vehicle).

OK, I've got a semi-rough draft build of Me As An (Open) Superhero put together. Of course (knowing me) I couldn't resist giving it some slightly cheesy ability to make it more flexible; without an array of Summons, that turned out to be a loosely-themed Variable 1 Skill Software power. With 24 Power Settings, and I may still add more. It costs 8 PP as Variable, where it would cost about 26 as an Array, so I can see some GMs not allowing it. But I'm gonna go with it for this challenge.

Overall, my Me Build is actually pretty similar to my Devni Figgum build in VordWarp: a Gadgeteer build with a fast Hoverbike Vehicle, the aforementioned Variable Skill Software power for flexibility, a costume and a high-tech energy gun as Devices for main offense and defense, great Inventor/Technology Skill combos for more flexibility, and a fair bit of Luck Advantages.

Detailed stat block coming after I recover from this morning's dental operations.

OK, here's my "real" answer to the challenge, my "open superhero" form.
  • Fighting 2 isn't optimal, since this build basically never melee attacks, but is there for flavor—he's got some general combat training.
  • If the GM nixxed the Skill Software Modules power, I'd probably try to compensate with Intellect 5 and Jack-of-All-Trades and such.
  • Pain is a healthy and important sense to have, but surely technology could make it a bit less ... painful? I gave Everett Half Effect Immunity to pain effects (and sleep, which I presume means he only needs 4 hours a night) to represent this aversion I would have to being a superhero. Call me a wuss.
  • Yoinking later Iron Man's nanotech-based ability to "suit up" or go normal; it's a bit better than the standard Quick Change Feature so I made it Feature 2.
  • I picture the Beam-Shooter looking quite a bit like a Star Trek Type II Phaser. But performing less wimpy.
  • Move Object 1, with no Flaws, is just too convenient to not spend 2 PP on. (EDIT: I ended up adding Activation 1 to save a point; even 2PP was too much I guess.) Everett will prefer to use his Strength when there's labor to be done—gotta get some exercise when the opportunity presents itself. But minor Telekinesis would come in handy, for example, when you're sitting in a meeting or lecture of some kind and can't get out of your seat due to etiquette rules.
  • "Unrecognizable" as Feature 1 is stolen from the example of Princess in the Hero's Handbook.
  • Esoteric Training and Russian Language represent things I've worked hard to learn IRL, and don't want my superhero version to lose!
  • Remember that one use of Luck (Heroic Feat) is to momentarily assume Well-Equipped, pulling out whatever Equipment item happens to be needed in a situation.
  • I'm thinking about detailing all the skill bonus totals he gets with various Modules active, but that would just make an already-long stat block super long, right? And the player/GM can figure that much out on their own?
  • If Benefit hadn't been prohibited by the OP of this challenge, I would have found a point somewhere to squeeze Wealth 1 onto the character. But that might be all I'd want for Benefits.
