Long before he reappeared, while he was still assumed to be dead at the end of his first storyline, he was given a somewhat more heroic end in What If Volume II #48, where he did the entire universe a favor and killed Bullseye.

Build Comments: One of the staples of the J-Mart franchise, John Preston from Equilibrium. Now some of you young whippersnappers probably aren't aware of his awesomeness but in case you're not, two pieces of evidence:

Preston fight scenes

Batman vs. John Preston, courtesy of Wordmaker

I rest my case. Equilibrium is one of those movies that if it's on, I have to watch at least some of it. It's not a great movie by any stretch, but Bale's acting is fantastic as usual and the fight scenes are great. As a build, I feel pretty good about his goon sweeping abilities. He could easily take out a couple dozen mooks if they're set up well and even if they're not, in a few rounds, he should be able to drop dozens if he needs to. It's not often I feel pretty good about a build when I'm done, but I do this one. So it probably sucks to run. ;)

Secret Origins: Little is known about John Preston’s early life. What is known is that he is from the country of Libria. After a brutal civil war, a totalitarian state emerged whose ideology determined human emotion to be the root cause of conflict. Despite the reservations (and protests) of a number of countries across the globe, all emotionally-stimulating material is banned and "Sense Offenders" are apprehended and consigned to "combustion" (death by incineration). All citizens are required to take daily injections of Prozium to suppress emotion and encourage obedience.

Libria is governed by the Tetragrammaton Council led by a figurehead known as "Father". Father never interacts with anyone directly, but is seen on giant video screens throughout the city. The Tetragrammaton Council uses the police to maintain conformity. At the pinnacle of Librian law enforcement are the Grammaton Clerics, who are trained in the martial art of gun kata. The Clerics frequently raided the "Nether" region outside the city where they searched for and destroyed illegal materials – art, literature, and music – and executed the people hiding them. Despite their ongoing efforts, a resistance movement, known as the "Underground", emerged with the goal of toppling Father and the Tetragrammaton Council.

John Preston became a high-ranking Grammaton Cleric. He is a widower with two children whose wife, Viviana, was executed for a crime known as "Sense Offense" – when a citizen ceased to take their Prozium regimen.

The Story so Far: After having to execute his partner for Sense Offense, he accidentally broke his daily vial of Prozium. His son reminded him that he needs to go to Equilibrium, log the loss, and request a replacement. The building is temporarily closed due to terrorist activity, so he is unable to obtain another vial before going on the next raid. As a result, he begins to experience brief episodes of emotion evoking more memories and making him more aware of his surroundings. He intentionally skipped more doses of Prozium and hid them behind the mirror in his bathroom.

Preston's partner was replaced with career-conscious Brandt who revealed his admiration for Preston's "uncompromising" work as a Cleric. On their first raid together, they arrested Mary O'Brien, a citizen within the city identified as a Sense Offender. To Brandt's surprise, Preston prevented him from executing O'Brien on the spot choosing instead to keep her alive for interrogation. Without Prozium, Preston continued to struggle with his emotions and has a hard time hiding them from others. Brandt grows suspicious of Preston's hesitation to execute Sense Offenders and destroy contraband. Preston eventually uncovers clues that led to a meeting with Jurgen, the leader of the Underground resistance. Jurgen convinced him that assassinating Father must happen to help their movement succeed. They plan to disrupt Prozium production which will then lead to an uprising by the populace.

Preston is apprehended by police and brought before Vice-Counsel DuPont, who revealed there is a traitor in the upper ranks of the Clerics. DuPont appears to be onto Preston, but then tells him that the traitor is the number one threat to society and needs to be stopped. Somewhat relieved to learn he hasn't been implicated, Preston cordially agreed and promised to locate the Underground's leadership. Meeting with Jurgen again, Preston is advised to allow O'Brien's execution to take place in order to avoid sabotaging plans for the revolution. He is unable to watch her execution and unsuccessfully rushes to stop it. Brandt catches Preston having an emotional breakdown in the streets, arrested him, and brought him before the Vice-Counsel. DuPont is tricked by Preston into believing that Brandt is the real traitor. Following Brandt's arrest, Preston is informed that a search of his home will take place as a formality. He rushes home to destroy the hidden vials only to find his son already has. His son tells him that he stopped taking Prozium after his mother died.

Carrying out Jurgen's plan to have the leaders of the Underground captured, Preston is granted exclusive audience with Father. He has to take a test first, in which it is revealed that Brandt was not truly arrested. He was part of a ruse to expose Preston allowing him to turn in the leaders of the Underground before being executed. DuPont is also exposed to be the real Father, whom he secretly replaced following the original Father's death. It also becomes clear that DuPont did not take Prozium and can feel emotions. DuPont taunts him, asking Preston how it felt to betray the Underground. Enraged, Preston fights his way into DuPont's office, which is filled with illegal artwork and ornate furniture. After killing all of DuPont's bodyguards, he defeated Brandt in a katana battle, which leads to a final gun kata showdown with DuPont. Preston defeated DuPont, but before being executed, DuPont tries to convince Preston to spare him on the account he represents life and feeling. Preston refused, shot DuPont and destroyed the government's control systems that broadcast video of Father. The Underground carried out the destruction of Prozium manufacturing and storage facilities, while scores of rebels successfully attack key points throughout the city.

In order to ensure his children’s safety, Preston accepted assistance from SHIELD to relocate to the US and has become one of their most effective secret assets.

Characterization: John Preston enjoyed the status of a Tetragrammaton Cleric 1st Class, which was the highest possible level for a Cleric. As such, his physical skills, including acrobatics martial arts, and particularly the arts of the Gun Kata, are superb. He is easily able to take on several well-trained men in gun combat, emerging victorious in a couple of seconds, either by use of melee or ranged attacks. His accuracy and speed is unsurpassed, even in complete darkness, so that he can hit targets on all sides of him, and even behind him. His exceptional calmness and discipline are most useful in combat situations. When starting a Gun Kata he enters a near trance-like state of calmness that fools even a polygraph detector. He’s also rather intelligent, deductive and plans ahead in time. His main weakness is the lack of social skills, although as a Cleric he didn’t need to do much talking.

Preston is also very intuitive and capable of sensing other peoples’ emotions. Due to the effect of life-long use of the emotion-calming drug Prozium, Preston, like most contemporaries had very little personality to speak of. In his actions, although not in his words, he also demanded a certain degree of respect from colleagues and the general public.

Preston’s ability to sense emotions was a tremendous asset in his line of work, but he never really understood the meaning of the emotions that he sensed. Curiously, he ignored the feelings that he sensed from his family members completely. As he quit taking Prozium, his feelings began to surface rather quickly. Preston was taken completely by surprise and found himself both confused and horrified by these feelings. Sensations of guilt manifested themselves almost immediately as well, from his non-active role in saving the life of his now-deceased wife, and for having killed so many human beings just for them having emotions. These feelings of guilt would later provide him with the resolve for a new purpose; to give people back its emotional freedom.

In the end, he learned that without control emotion is chaos. He taught himself to control his emotions, so that he could work just as effectively as before, but this time for the emotional freedom of the people.

Friends and Foes: Rumors persist that a number of former Clerics and Librian loyalists are on the hunt for him to bring him to “justice”, but so far, he and his family have enjoyed a fairly peaceful existence in their new home.

He then stalked Charles Simpson and the babysitter, eventually shooting the girl with Charles' gun, after which Charles committed suicide. Wolverine then went to Frank's place and abducted him for the supersoldier project.

Years later, Frank Simpson was sent into the Vietnam War as a black-ops agent. Captured by the Viet Cong, Frank was severely tortured by Logan, who was posing as a Russian intelligence liaison, shattering Frank's still unbalanced mind. While torturing him he implanted the phrase "No V.C.!" as a trigger word, along with the compulsion to kill gruesomely, in retaliation for the tortures suffered, anyone who uttered the words. He then allowed Frank to escape, testing his work with a village of peasants, who, seeing an American soldier, tried to soothe his anger and convince him to spare them, shouting the "No V.C.!" phrase, meaning that they weren't Viet Cong. Frank, in response to the trigger word, burnt the village to the ground killing every inhabitant. The experiment being a success, Logan was installed as his handler. Due to his trauma, Nuke often hallucinates that the enemies he is fighting are the Viet Cong.
What? I get that Nuke is jab at the US Government, but using Wolverine to do so much dirty work is...harsh. I guess he gets a "pass" due to fan wank...either that or Xavier does a lot of therapy for him.

That whole thing also reminded me of Call of Duty Black Ops with Mason, Hudson and Woods...

Rivalry: Although they have worked together far better than most thought, she still has to keep his eye on Amanda Waller and Cecil Steadman.
Secret: He has a few…

Abilities 80 + Skills 51 (102 ranks) + Advantages 41 + Powers 2 + Defenses 13 = 187 / 187

Build Comments: This version of Fury is heavily influenced by the Samuel L. Jackson Fury from The Avengers more so than classic Nick Fury, who I have at J-Mart PC. His role in my setting is noted in Amanda Waller’s build but by and large, he’s the Nick Fury we all know and are scared sh*tless of.

Although, we got close recently, The Avengers would have been so much better if Samuel L. got to go "I AM SO MOTHERF***** TIRED OF THESE MOTHER****** CHITAURI ON MY MOTHERF****** PLANET!" near the end of that movie. 8-)

Secret Origins: Born and raised in the area of New York City known as Hell's Kitchen around 1920, Nicholas Joseph "Nick" Fury was around 20 years old when he joined the United States Army to fight the Nazi's in World War II. He soon flourished in the ranks of the U.S. Army and became sergeant. During this time, Nick was asked to lead a handpicked squad of highly trained soldiers, the first black to do so. This squad would soon become known as the famous Howling Commandos. Sergeant Fury and the Howling Commandos fought through much of World War II, with missions in France, Greece, Belgium, Holland and even inside Nazi Germany itself. The team also encountered and fought alongside a few of America's superheroes, such as Captain America and the Invaders. Nick even met Logan, the person whom would later be known as the X-man Wolverine.

Nick Fury managed to get most of his team members back alive after each and every mission. However, Nick himself was injured by a grenade at the end of the war. This grenade was the cause of the eye injury that eventually cost him the vision in his left eye. Fury began covering the eye with a cosmetic black eye-patch, which became one of his trademarks after the war. It was also at this time that he and most other Howling Commandos began their annual injections of the Infinity Formula, a chemical they found during the war. Injections with this chemical greatly slowed their aging process.

The Story so Far: After the war, Nick and most of his team remained operatives for the U.S. Government. While with the CIA in the 1960's, he recruited Richard Parker and Mary Parker to rescue the so called Agent Ten. He was then recruited by Franklin Pierce to be the next director of the newly established S.H.I.E.L.D., an international anti-espionage agency under the aegis of the U.N. and the U.S. Government. Some of Fury's closest friends from the old days where also recruited into the organization and had top positions in the organization, mostly working with Fury himself, such as Dum Dum Dugan. Under his command, S.H.I.E.L.D. became the primary organization in espionage and later, in dealings with superhuman activities. He forged alliances with many superhero teams, such as the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the Justice League as well as superheroes like Captain America.

The organization flourished, with many new recruits such as Agent Sharon Carter and even a floating headquarters, the Helicarrier. Nick Fury made it a target to wipe out organized terrorists. With terrorist-organizations such as A.I.M. and Hydra, this was however easier sad then done. Nick fought a secret war against these terrorists for many years, managing to win most of the time, but never truly disbanding the organizations. Nick also became part of the group that brought Spider-Woman from the clutches of Hydra to the side of the angels. Some years later, Fury single handily disbanded S.H.I.E.L.D. because it had been infiltrated by HYDRA at the highest levels. Luckily Nick and others managed to ruse the plot and S.H.I.E.L.D. was re-assembled.

Characterization: Though Nick Fury has no real super-human powers, he is in peak physical condition as a human. He is a skilled tactician and an experienced leader. He is an expert in hand to hand combat (highly skilled in Tae Kwon Do and Jiu Jitsu), as well as a master of virtually all forms of weaponry. As one of the longest-running Directors of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury has access to some of the world's most advanced weapons and technology. His position has also made him one of the most powerful men in the world in terms of his connections.

Friends and Foes: Fury has many allies and enemies across the world due to his long tenure with SHIELD.

Yeah it went as expected. S.H.I.E.L.D. implodes and everyone wants answers. The CIA, NSA, NRO, them I can handle but Congress? Congress is like kindergarten. “Where is this Fridge? What was in there? Who or what is a Man-Thing?” I swear I need a cocktail and a lobotomy. - Maria Hill

Toughness +4 (+2 without Defensive Roll, +6 against Ballistics, +4 without Defensive Roll against Ballistics), Fortitude +5, Will +7

COMPLICATIONS:
Motivation: Proving herself to anyone who thinks she's not qualified for her role.
Relationships: She is close to Nick Fury as he has been one of her greatest supporters.
Responsibility: To SHIELD and protecting the world.

Abilities 52 + Skills 29 (58 ranks) + Advantages 19 + Powers 0 + Defenses 15 = 115 / 115

Build Comments: The Maria Hill in my setting is based more on the MCU Maria Hill as opposed to the pain in the ass main Marvel U version. I like her more as the bad ass Number 2 to Fury as the angry legacy Number 1.

Secret Origins: Maria Hill was born in Chicago, Illinois, on a cold night when temperatures hit -44°F. While still in the hospital, Maria's mother died, and her father Ed blamed it on her. The abuse Maria endured from her father turned her into cold and troubled person for most of her youth. Upon reaching adulthood and finally falling out with her father, Maria joined the Marine Corps.

The Story so Far: After her successful time in the Marine Corps, Hill later joined S.H.I.E.L.D. and rose through its ranks, at one point working in Madripoor and becoming one of the organization's best agents. About 5 years ago, Hill had already caught the eye of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s director Nick Fury and had been appointed Deputy Director, working closely with Fury.

Characterization: Maria Hill is well-known in S.H.I.E.L.D. for being rather tough-minded and by the book. Her clear-headed pragmatism and reason was valued on multiple important occasions.

She was shown to be extremely loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D. and especially to Director Nick Fury, having personally helped him several times, such as when he faked his death after being attacked by the Winter Soldier. However, Hill ultimately proved that for the greater good, she was willing to discard her loyalties to S.H.I.E.L.D. and help Captain America to destroy HYDRA, despite the fact that it would tear S.H.I.E.L.D. apart.

Since working for Stark Industries, Hill has grown close to her employer Pepper Potts and the Avengers. Though very professional when on the job, she jokes with her colleagues and is lighthearted during times of levity.

Build Comments: Clark Gregg’s portrayal of Agent Phil Coulson has been one of the low key highlights of the MCU. He proved so popular that he not only came back from the dead for the TV series, he went from live action to the comics, which rarely ever happens.

I truly hope he makes an appearance in Avengers 4 because it would be a fitting end for that chapter of the MCU and a fine way to end Agents of SHIELD. But that makes too much sense so it won’t happen.

On his background, I'm still deciding what to include and exclude from his Agents of SHIELD time so I'll get back to that later.

Secret Origins: The son of Robert and Julie Coulson, Phil Coulson was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin on July 8. As an only child, he wished that he had siblings, idealizing what kind of relationship he would have with a younger brother. The Coulson family identified as Catholic, but they would only attend Mass on Christmas and Easter. Coulson grew up being a huge fan of Peggy Carter and Captain America, acquiring a vintage Captain America Card Collection over the course of two years. He played baseball in the Little League, batting with over a .400 average. His father introduced him into car tinkering, and together they worked on a red Corvette that Phil has kept to this day.

The Story so Far: Coulson lost his father at a very young age, and his mother is now deceased as well.[15] After high school, while he was in college studying history and learning how S.H.I.E.L.D. shaped the times, he was recruited right away to the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, where he studied at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Communications, eventually becoming a special agent and was taught by his supervising officer Nick Fury alongside John Garrett.

To be continued...

Abilities 50 + Skills 19 (38 ranks) + Advantages 10 + Powers 0 + Defenses 11 = 90 / 90

Build Comments: Jake Oh has been a side character in several books, generally serving as the obligatory SHIELD agent when the plot needed one. He got a bit of a feature in Rhodey’s solo book as part of his team and a bearer of the War Machine armor for a bit. I always liked him so when I was thinking of someone to be Preston’s partner in SHIELD, he was the first to jump to mind.

Secret Origins: Jake Oh was born to Korean immigrants in the United States of America. His father wanted him to become a lawyer, but Jake decided instead to join S.H.I.E.L.D. on his own volition.

The Story so Far: Jake was being stationed at a Mojave S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, guarding a comatose Jimmy Woo before he was broken out by his former comrades, M-11 and Gorilla Man. Later, Jake was reassigned to the World. He grew bored with the quasi-temporal space and "whale-brained machines" during his three months stationed there. Again dealing with intrusion from hostile forces, he was startled by the entrance of three Phoenix hosts, the Stepford Cuckoos, one of whom, Celeste, took a liking to him. When time started back up in the dome, the trio assisted Jake in dispatching the car-cops that surrounded him. Jake later left Celeste and returned to his job.

Jake was an ally of Jim Rhodes and a member of Rhodey's medical "staff" which aided Rhodes on his never-ending mission as War Machine.

After several adventures, Jake returned to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. as a regular agent. In the middle of the second superhuman civil war, he worked with the Black Panther as S.H.I.E.L.D. liaison during his mission to track down the new Hulk, Amadeus Cho. Black Panther and Jake later assisted Hulk and his sister Maddy in fighting the Austin Monster, with Jake using a protocol originally meant for the Hulk, which sent the Austin Monster to the Negative Zone.

Jake has now been assigned as the new partner of SHIELD agent, and former top Tetragrammaton Cleric, John Preston.

Characterization: Jake Oh is a superb hand-to-hand combatant and an accomplished marksman with most types of firearms, with specialized S.H.I.E.L.D. training for active field duty, medicine, combat, and armored fighting vehicle operation. He has a strong moral code and is one of SHIELD best field agents.

Friends and Foes: He remains close to James Rhodes and Betheny Cabe and has remained in tough with the Stepford Cuckoos, mainly online.

Abilities 86 + Skills 57 (114 ranks) + Advantages 39 + Powers 27 + Defenses 16 = 225 / 225

Build Comments: I think the Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a HUGE turning point in the Marvel U and for superhero movies in general. Yes, the Dark Knight was more gritty crime drama than superhero movie, but I feel like Winter Soldier was the first time a superhero movie was created as a sub-genre within the genre. It was a political thriller being led by superheroes which led to a space opera being led by superheroes with Guardians of the Galaxy, a heist movie led by a superhero in Ant-Man and so on.

And the movie wouldn’t have worked if the Winter Soldier didn’t work and Sebastian Stan rocked it. It took the character to a new level in the greater Marvel U and he went from an also ran for me to one my favorite characters. I loved his run as Cap a few years back and the latest book with him and Hawkeye looking for the “deceased” Black Widow has been way better than it should be. I really amped him up skill-wise and ability wise since apparently the Infinity Formula worked on him similar to how it worked on Mockingbird. He should be a fun play.

Secret Origins: James Buchanan Barnes was born in Shelbyville, Indiana in 1925. He is an orphan, the son of a soldier killed in training at U.S. Army Camp Lehigh in Virginia just before the United States' entry into World War II. As a result, he was unofficially adopted by the camp as a mascot. Nicknamed "Bucky", he takes to wearing a uniform and becoming savvy with the ins and outs of military life, even though he was a teenager. It was at Lehigh that he met and befriended Private Steven Rogers, who by all appearances is the clumsiest soldier in the camp. This was at the same time that reports of the then-mysterious Captain America begin to appear in news magazines, and Barnes eagerly devoured the accounts of this new hero.

In 1940, Bucky accidentally walked in on Steve Rogers changing into his uniform, thus discovering his friend was Captain America and insisted that he join him. He underwent extensive training and was assigned to be Captain America's partner. The military justified putting a 15-year-old in harm's way by using him as a symbol to rally the youth of America.

The Story so Far: They fought the Red Skull together, and Captain America accepted Bucky as his partner. Together, Captain America and Bucky fought Nazis both at home and abroad, as a duo and as part of the superhero team known as the Invaders. Barnes also teamed up with the sidekicks of other heroes in a group called the Young Allies. Additionally, Bucky was the organizer of the flashback World War II super-team the Liberty Legion, set between the formations of the Invaders and the post-war All-Winners Squad. He was also briefly one of the Kid Commandos at this time. Bucky served as an advance scout for Captain America and the Invaders, often being assigned tasks that none of the heroes could be seen doing.

In the closing days of World War II in 1945, Captain America and Bucky tried to stop the villainous Baron Zemo from destroying an experimental drone plane. Zemo launched the plane with an armed explosive device on it, with Rogers and Barnes in hot pursuit. They reached the plane just before it took off. Bucky unsuccessfully tried to defuse the bomb, and it exploded in mid-air before reaching its intended target. He was believed to have been killed in action, as Rogers was hurled into the freezing waters of the North Atlantic. Rogers' body, preserved in suspended animation in a block of ice, is found decades later by Superman.

General Vasily Karpov and the crew of a Russian patrol submarine found Bucky's cold-preserved body missing one arm. Bucky was revived in Moscow, but suffered brain damage with amnesia as a result of the explosion. Scientists attached a bionic arm, upgrading it over the years as technology improved.

Programmed to be a Soviet assassin for Department X, under the code name the Winter Soldier, he is sent on covert missions involving assassination, becoming increasingly ruthless and efficient as he kills in the name of the state. While a Soviet agent, he also had a brief relationship with The Black Widow. The Winter Soldier was kept in a cryogenic stasis when not on missions, and as a result has aged only a few years to a young adult since the closing days of World War II. In 1968, the Winter Soldier was sent to kill Professor Zhang Chin, whom he had met in World War II. Unfortunately, he was pinned down by an intangible being called The Man with No Face, though he was able to escape.

On assignment in the United States in the 1970s, he suffered a breakdown and went missing for days after assassinating his target. It has also been revealed that as the Winter Soldier he aided in Wolverine's escape from the Weapon X laboratory and later murdered Itsu, Wolverine's wife at the time, seemingly killing their unborn son Daken who survived the attack after being cut from his mother's womb.

In the present day, the Winter Soldier seemingly killed the Red Skull and Jack Monroe (Nomad) under orders from former Soviet general Aleksander Lukin, Karpov's former protégé. Winter Soldier launches a terrorist attack on Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, killing hundreds, and charged the Cosmic Cube which Lukin sent him to retrieve. He kidnapped Sharon Carter, an agent of the international espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D. and a former lover of Steve Rogers. Upon her rescue, Carter told Captain America that Winter Soldier looked like Bucky. S.H.I.E.L.D. chief Nick Fury confirmed the Winter Soldier's existence, but cannot ascertain his identity.

Captain America tracked down and confronted the Winter Soldier. Upon gaining control of the Cube, he told the Soldier, "Remember who you are". Regaining his memories, Bucky became overwhelmed by guilt over his past actions, crushing the Cosmic Cube and teleporting away.
He reappeared shortly afterward in London, England, where he helped Captain America fend off a terrorist attack. He asked Nick Fury for employment and new equipment following the loss of his bionic arm. Following the events of the superhuman Civil War, Winter Soldier helped Fury plan the escape of an arrested Steve Rogers. Before the plan can be implemented, however, Rogers was assassinated.

Considering registration architect Tony Stark (Iron Man) as ultimately responsible, Winter Soldier planned to kill Stark in revenge. Deducing that Stark will oversee the appointment of a new Captain America, Winter Soldier stole Captain America's shield from S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Black Widow so that it cannot be handed down. Ultimately, he heads to Kronas' headquarters, where Lukin revealed he is the Red Skull and has the evil psychiatrist Dr. Faustus attempt unsuccessfully to brainwash the Winter Soldier.

After escaping from Faustus and being captured by S.H.I.E.L.D., Barnes learned from Executive Director Tony Stark that Steve Rogers had left Stark a letter asking Stark to watch over Barnes and that the Captain America mantle should continue. Stark suggeste that Barnes become the new Captain America. Barnes agreed only if Stark guaranteed him complete autonomy. As this arrangement is illegal under the Superhuman Registration Act, Stark keeps his support of the new Captain America secret.

Barnes' first major adventure as the new Captain America has him, Falcon, Carter and S.H.I.E.L.D. fighting against the original Red Skull and Dr. Faustus who have revived the 1950s Captain America in a plot to secure one of their pawns attaining the U.S. presidency. Barnes and his allies succeeded in aborting the Skull's plans, and Barnes saved the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates from assassination, winning public applause. The adventure ends with Barnes accepting himself and addressing himself now as "Captain America". He also restarted his relationship with Black Widow.

During the Secret Invasion storyline, after most of the other heroes have fallen as the Skrull invasion of Earth continues, Captain America was seen watching Thor defend a group of civilians in Central Park. Later, after a brief confrontation with Thor, he joined the other assemblage of heroes, the Mighty Avengers, the New Avengers, the Initiative, the Thunderbolts, Nick Fury and his Secret Warriors, Young Avengers, and the Hood's group, in battle against an army of Super-Skrulls led by Queen Veranke herself.

After the events of the Invasion, Barnes discovered that the remains of Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch, have been recovered and studied by the United Nations. The body was stolen by Professor Zhang Chin who used the Torch to create a virus to exterminate half the Earth's population. Teaming up with Namor, they stopped Chin and made sure that Hammond receives a proper burial. Later, he joins the New Avengers and offers his home as a base of operations. He later participated in the search for Luke Cage and Jessica Jones' child, Danielle. He was considered a possible team leader but turned it down because he did not have the proper team experience.

Some time later, Barnes finds out from Sharon that she did not really kill Steve. As explained by Doctor Zola to Norman Osborn, Rogers was trapped in a fixed position of time and space. But since Sharon ruined the machine that was supposed to bring him back, Steve was reliving his own past. Barnes and Black Widow attempt to steal the device from H.A.M.M.E.R. but are captured. Osborn sends the Black Widow back to Sharon with an ultimatum: either she turns herself in, as Osborn had implicated her as Rogers' second shooter, or he'll kill Barnes. Barnes was then sent into the custody of the Thunderbolts who told him that he'll be inducted into their group once Rogers is brought back. However, Barnes is secretly freed by Ant-Man and then rescued by the Falcon. Barnes then teams up with Clint Barton, Natasha Romanoff, the Falcon, Hank Pym, and the Vision to save Sharon. The group intercepted the Red Skull's ship beside the Lincoln Memorial and attacked. The Red Skull had already taken over Steve's body, and Barnes attacked him. The two battled while Hank saved Sharon and the others battle Crossbones and a squad of M.O.D.O.K.S.. Sin shot Barnes in the shoulders, giving the Skull the opportunity to take Captain America's shield. He pinned Barnes to the ground and cut off his cybernetic arm with the shield. However, inside Steve's body, Steve prepares to kill the Red Skull to keep him from doing any more evil in his body. The Skull's consciousness left Steve's body and returned to his robotic body. Hank and Sharon manage to cause the Skull's body to enlarge in size, and after Steve takes back control of his own body leads an attack, Vision used the Skull's ship's weapons to destroy the Skull.

During the Siege, Barnes is alongside Steve's team of heroes. Barnes, still in his Captain America suit, pulled Rogers aside just before they were about to leave for Asgard. Barnes told Rogers that they should "skip the argument" and insisted that Rogers use Captain America's shield. Rogers takes the shield. After the events of the Siege, Rogers returned the shield to Barnes and retires his uniform, leaving Barnes as the only Captain America.

Barnes was a member of the main Avengers team formed in the aftermath of the "Siege" storyline. He was then put on trial for the crimes he committed as the Winter Soldier. He was found not guilty in an American court, but Russian officials took him away, having convicted him of crimes against the state and claiming that he had gone rogue and killed two civilians. But as Sharon Carter and Black Widow discovered, Barnes' victims were connected to Russia's Department X's Red Room division. He escaped imprisonment with help from Black Widow and returned to the USA, however it was decided he was too tainted by events to be allowed to continue as Captain America.

During the events of Fear Itself storyline, Barnes took up the Captain America identity again, but was apparently killed in battle with Sin, in her Skadi form. He survived because he had been injected with the Infinity Formula. With the world believing him dead he returned to his former identity of Winter Soldier to perform special jobs behind the scenes relating to his earlier days as the Winter Soldier. Only Rogers, Nick Fury, Cecil Stedman, Black Widow and the highest level SHIELD operative know the truth of his "death."

Characterization: Bucky, like many others, looks up to Steve Rogers. He has a great deal of respect for Steve, but Bucky is also ashamed of what he has done as Winter Soldier. Bucky has shown signs of aggression whilst depressed and has also redeveloped a relationship with Black Widow. He feels great guilt over what he has done as the Winter Soldier and works to try and redeem himself or make up for his deeds the best he can.

Friends and Foes: He and Steve Rogers remain close and he and Black Widow remain in a romantic relationship.

356 - Odin

Post by Thorpocalypse »

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY from J-Mart! Having been pretty busy today I only have time to squeeze one build in under the wire so we're going to make this ALLFATHER'S DAY and add this new build to Aisle 2!

Image
For all your noble deeds these past days, you lack that quality which makes true heroes. That which your brother walked through fire to learn. You lack humility. And without humility... Yes, you may change. You may change, and change, and change, like a vain fool trying different armors to see which gleams brightest, while the battle goes on without him. You may change. But you will never grow. - Odin

Abilities 150 + Skills 43 (86 ranks) + Advantages 44 + Powers 248 + Defenses 10 = 495 / 495

Build Comments: Thor’s daddy in all his bad ass glory. The Odin of the Thorpacoverse comes in at a beatable (barely) PL16, as will my Zeus did to be even with my Thanos and Darkseid, because I wanted them all the be pretty much equal. I think any of them have a slim shot at Galactus but it ain't bloody likely and Thor or Superman would have to work pretty dang hard to take them down solo, but they can.

Secret Origins: Odin is the son of Bor, the first Asgardian, and the frost giantess Bestella. Bor and Bestella also had two other sons known as Vili and Ve. These were Odin's older brothers. Odin and his two brothers had many adventures in their youth, With the aid of his brothers, a young Odin battles and defeats the fire demon Surtur. Many millennia later, Odin would reveal the origin of his powers and the eventual fate of his brothers; they were killed by Surtur, but gave their power to Odin. After Surtur was defeated, Bor abdicated his throne to Odin, making Odin the new ruler of Asgard and due to his vital link to the realm, came to be known by the epithet of All-Father.

The Story so Far: Odin fell in love with Gaea, in time becoming the father of the Thunder God Thor as he wanted a son who would be strong on both Asgard and Earth. He created a cave in Norway in which Gaea gave birth. He notices that Thor's eyes are those of Bor, and realizes one day 'the wheel will turn again'. He then returned to Asgard with Thor, where his wife, Frigga, acts as Thor's mother. Odin is also the adoptive father of Loki, a child of Giant blood whose father King Laufey is killed by Odin in battle. Odin adopted Loki as part of a deal with his father Bor's spirit so that Bor would stop haunting him for replacing him, unaware that Bor's intention was that the child would bring about his son's downfall.

Despite Odin's best intentions, his sons become bitter enemies, with the feuding often requiring Odin's mediation. Odin also was the father of Balder by the way of Frigga; thus, Balder is a half-brother to Thor.

Thor's preoccupation with Midgard (the Asgardian term for Earth) is a constant annoyance for Odin who, as punishment, has taken Thor's powers on at least three occasions. Thor's acceptance of the sanctions, along with his willingness to atone for his transgressions, his continued noble intentions, and his bravery, eventually convince the All-Father to relent and thereby restore Thor's original powers and identity.

As ruler and protector of the Asgardian people, Odin has been involved in a number of crises that have threatened Asgard and, on occasion, Earth. Notable examples included stopping Loki, the Storm Giant Skagg, and Surtur (with the aid of Thor and Balder); defeating the Absorbing Man after he absorbs almost all of Asgard; banishing the monster Mangog; sacrificing his right eye to Mimir for the wisdom to stop Ragnarök (Twilight of the Gods); attempting to stop the Celestials in the armor of the Destroyer; engaging inter-dimensional tyrant Dormammu in a "cosmic chess" match as champions of Master Order and Lord Chaos respectively, and preventing Surtur from lighting the Sword of Doom.

Odin has also died three times in defense of Asgard. On the first occasion, Odin is killed by Mangog, although he is later revived by the goddess of Death Hela to prevent Pluto from claiming him. On the second occasion, the Celestials melt the Destroyer to slag, which at the time holds the life force of Odin and all Asgardians with the exception of Thor. Thor, however, collects a portion of godly energy from each pantheon and uses it to revive Odin, who in turn resurrects the Asgardians.

The final occasion involves a massive battle against arch-foe Surtur on Earth, with Odin apparently dying once and for all, as the Odin Force—the source of Odin's power—migrates to his son, Thor. As Thor eventually destroys the Loom of Fates and stops Asgard from perpetuating Ragnarok—which ends the entire Norse pantheon and Asgard itself—Thor believes Odin may be dead permanently. The Odin Force appears to him in humanoid form and says that this was Odin's plan all along: that he break the cycle. Eventually, though, Thor was nearly driven mad by the power and it was returned to a resurrected Odin who continues to rule Asgard.

Characterization: Odin is a complex being. He can be compassionate but if more often portrayed as stoic at best and petty and vindictive at worst. He is also a master tactician and schemer. In addition to feats such as preventing Ragnarok, it has been revealed that Odin was planning for the arrival of the Celestial Fourth Host for centuries. Odin's wisdom was such that he was able to ultimately thwart the eternal cycle of Rangnorak forever by sending Thor to Midgard as part of his secret plan to destroy the Asgardian cosmic entities known as Those Who Sit Above in Shadow. Even after Odin had perished fighting Surtur, his plan for his son succeeded and set all of Asgard free.

Friends and Foes: Odin has many allies in the nine realms and probably double that in enemies. His greatest foes are the Frost Giant Ymir and the Fire Giant Surtur. He remains close to his wife and sons, even Loki most of the time and puts the needs of Asgard above all else.

I thought I would share a quick pic of my Father's Day Gifts from the rest of the Thorpocalypses:

Do they know me, or what? ;)

Deadpool T-shirt, Black Panther T-Shirt, Marvel Encyclopedia, a couple other tchotchkes and the Rick and Morty Anatomy Park game which we're going to play when we go on vacation later this summer. I was gone most of the day visiting my dad in Missouri so overall it was an excellent Father's Day.

Dang, that's a good Odin build, I would place him at 17 or 18 but that's just me. We're gonna have to get a Kratos build to fight him and Thor.

Sweet deal, Thorp! Glad to see you had a good Father's Day. I think you're one of the few people here to managed to successfully breed, so here's to you :)!
