Temper: While he has learned to control it for the most part, he has a fierce temper and violent streak that is second to none

Abilities 82 + Skills 28 (56 ranks) + Advantages 19 + Powers 0 + Defenses 10 = 139 / 139

Build Comments: Despite how much I like the DCA build, of course I had to do my own take on Ben since he is a fave and even though I dig him a lot and he is a great martial artist, I thought his DCA build overpowered him in several areas. I never saw him as a 5 Intellect, but maybe I didn't read enough about him. Anyway, I re-did him for my setting and I think he’s a lot more in line with the way I have things set up for my martial artists.

Secret Origins: Ben Turner comes from an upper middle class black neighborhood in Central City. When he was only 10 years old, he saw a burglar attacking his parents, and he proceeded to murder the man with a kitchen knife. In an effort to control the rage inside him, Turner turns to martial arts (and eventually, crime). After some time, Turner decides to travel to the Far East in order to finally come to terms with his demons.

The Story so Far: Turner became a student of the O-Sensei, a legendary martial arts instructor in Japan. O-Sensei took a second student named Richard Dragon, and Ben became close friends with Richard. Their lessons included combat, history, philosophy, and science. When their training was finished, O-Sensei sent them to find their destiny. The League of Assassins saw Ben as a person they needed to recruit. When Ben refused to join them they kidnapped him forcing him to wear a Bronze Tiger mask. When he wore the mask he was no longer in control of himself. The league had him do their tasks which generally focused on killing those the league pointed him at. The Bronze Tiger beat Batman in a hand to hand fight. Batman then took every step necessary to fight the Tiger but it was a draw. During this time it appears that Cassandra Cain was trained by Ben to be a fighter. King Faraday and Nightshade would eventually attack the League of Assassins hideout in hopes of bringing Ben in. Though they suffered some damages they did catch him. From this event Ben was introduced to Amanda Waller and though he tried to get past her, she wouldn’t allow him, eventually he realized she was right for his redemption would start.

Ben appeared in the Suicide Squad from its start to initial finish. Ben befriended Rick Flag and they did much together. The squad series ended with Ben fighting himself in the jungle which he defeats his younger self and is freed from the curse, as well as from Amanda Waller’s squad. Ben had a relationship with Vixen during his time on the squad.

After learning of the death of his close friend, Rick Flag, Ben retired for a while and ran a dojo. He later learned that Rick Flag was alive. Bronze Tiger went to his prison and broke him out. Later Amanda paids a visit to his dojo and got both Flag and him to go on a mission. The mission turns bad but Tiger and Flag both escape with their lives. Ben returned to semi-retirement but still finds himself involved in adventures from time to time.

Characterization: Ben is stoic and regretful about his criminal past, looking to atone with his work as a hero and with the Suicide Squad.

Friends and Foes: Ben is good friends with Rick Flag and one of the few people that Amanda Waller trusts. He and Richard Dragon continue to have a complicated relationship. He also has unresolved feelings for Vixen. And he maintains a strong rivalry with Lady Shiva.

They laugh at the law. The rich ones who buy it and twist it to their whims. The other ones, who have nothing to lose, who don't care about themselves, or other people. All the ones who think they're above the law, or outside it, or beyond it. They know all the law is good for is to keep good people in line. And they all laugh. They laugh at the law. But they don't laugh at me. - The Punisher

Honor: He will not kill cops, non-criminal vets, women, children and other innocents.
Obsession: With punishing all criminals.
Relationships: With the memory of his family.
Reputation: He's the Punisher. Lots of people die around him. Kinda makes him a pariah in the superhero world.
Rivalry: He has a bit of a rivalry with other street level heroes like Daredevil and Spidey, who he has helped many times, but continue to try and get him to put down his vendetta. Ain't gonna happen…

Abilities 76 + Skills 42 (84 ranks) + Advantages 37 + Powers 0 + Defenses 14 = 169 / 169

Build Comments: The man who has always epitomized the essence of J-Mart, The Punisher. There's not much else to say. Dude set off a bomb at the wake of Stilt Man. He shoots people. He stabs people. He snaps necks. He kills bad guys dead. Pretty much his role in the Thorpocaverse.

You just don't get any closer to the J-Mart ideals of pointless violence and continual mayhem than that... 8-)

Secret Origins: When mobsters slew his family, Frank Castle vowed to spend the rest of his life avenging them. Trained as a Marine and equipped with state-of-the-art weapons, he now wages a one-man war against crime as the Punisher.

The Story so Far: Castle managed to survive the attack on his family but was deeply traumatized by the incident. He was going to testify in court to identify the shooters, but Castle was denied this since the New York police department were deeply connected to the Mafia. He decided not to return to Marine duty, but instead outfitted himself with assorted weapons and a battle suit that displayed a large death's head on the chest, and embarked on a one-man anti-crime campaign throughout New York City. Castle devoted the rest of his life to eradicating organized crime, using the nom de guerre of the Punisher.

The Punisher used his combat experience (four years as a US Marine in a special operations unit in the Vietnam War), guerrilla warfare (combat assault attacks, assassinations, ambushes, hit and runs, bombings, using the enemies' own money, weapons, and supplies against them), urban warfare (using the crowded city of New York to blend in and disappear), psychological warfare (putting fear into the hearts of criminals), using detective-like skills (talking to people, reading obtained files on the people he goes after, tracking and surveying the enemy), always adapting to the enemy such as using the Mafia's own methods and tactics against them (interrogating and torturing suspects to death in order to get information from them) and whatever resources and means may be necessary to do so, ranging from light anti-tank weaponry to enraged polar bears, piranhas, and even a hydrogen bomb.

The Punisher has fought virtually about every known criminal organization, including the Italian Mafia, the Russian Mafia, the Japanese Yakuza, the Colombian and Mexican drug cartels, the Chinese Triads, Jamaican Yardies, the Aryan Brotherhood, the Irish Mob, biker gangs, street gangs, gunrunning militias, muggers, killers, rapists, psychopaths, sadists, pedophiles, and corrupt cops.

The Punisher has also assaulted such criminal business enterprises as drugs, weapons smuggling, money laundering and human trafficking. The Punisher fought organized crime long enough to know their modus operandi and predict their actions. Many of these organizations tried to kill the Punisher, using both their own men and hired contract killers. But the Punisher managed to kill almost every type of assassin, hitman, bounty hunter, and mercenary, even the superhuman ones that have been sent after him.

Characterization: The Punisher works outside the traditional system of law and order. He is a remorseless and cold-blooded killer. The Punisher possesses no superhuman abilities and succeeds solely through ingenuity and the rigorous training of his military upbringing, a finely honed killer instinct and an extensive arsenal of weapons culled from fallen foes and military allies.

Unlike most heroes, Castle has no dual identity, no "real world" job, no known hobbies, and few friends. He spends nearly all of his time planning his next hit, stopping only to recover from injuries or fatigue. Money taken from criminals is used to purchase food, weapons, ammunition, and pay the rent of his many safehouses. He also disregards what the police and the public think of him, and is known to kill corrupt cops. He is viewed as a dangerous criminal by the public and by most members of the superhero community.

Friends and Foes: He doesn’t have many allies and most of his foes he’s killed. He has a bit of a friendship with the Midnighter, who supports his killing of the bastards that need killing, but they are rarely in contact due to Frank’s mobile lifestyle.

DEFENSES:
Dodge +5 [DC15] Parry +5 [DC15]
Toughness +2, Fortitude +5, Will +6

COMPLICATIONS:
Arrogance: Despite his lack of success against "a-list" heroes, he's very confident in his reputation as a master assassin.
Obsession: Gamesmanship. He loves his job of killing, but it always has to be a game for him to truly enjoy it.

Abilities 50 + Skills 26 (52 ranks) + Advantages 11 + Powers 0 + Defenses 13 = 100 / 100

Build Comments: Never was a huge fan of Arcade, but BARON had a love for him that is so strong, it actually made me a fan. He used him in several of his fights and stories and it’s always entertaining, moreso than he usually is in main continuity. Maybe Marvel should hire BARON to write JUST Arcade stories. Well, I guess he could write Batman for DC, too…
The Murderworld I built for him is just a sample, he’s one of those characters that you should use your imagination with and tailor his Murderworld for the players. You can also throw in a Miss Locke for some “muscle” for him and he usually has a few robot duplicates of the heroes to throw at them as well.

Secret Origins: Arcade gave differing accounts of his past life, and as yet there is no evidence to substantiate any of those accounts. Apparently Arcade told falsehoods about his past to mislead and confuse his opponents for his own amusement. One of Arcade's accounts stated that he was the spoiled son of a millionaire living in Beverley Hills, California, and killed his own father to acquire his vast sums of money on his 21th birthday, possibly also because he had treated him of being worthless. In killing his father, Arcade discovered that he had a talent and liking for murder. He therefore became an assassin, but was soon bored with killing by ordinary means, and used his great wealth to construct hidden complexes of high-tech death traps designed in the manner of an amusement park.

The Story so Far: Arcade killed victims by trapping them within his "Murderworld" for whomever would pay the millions he charged. To him, the game itself was more important than the expense or even the winning. He was also contracted to kill various super heroes, from common foes like Spider-Man and the X-Men, to other targets like Puck and Northstar of Alpha Flight, and Ghost Rider, but these attempts always resulted in failure. Occasionally, Arcade held personal grudges against heroes, trying to kill them for free, such as Captain Britain or Batman.
Arcade killed his long-time assistant Miss Locke and mutilated his own face during a plot to frame Wolverine in a complex "Jack the Ripper"-like series of murders. His plot was defeated by Wolverine, Gambit, and his former ally Mastermind (Martinique Jason), the daughter of the original Mastermind, who left Arcade in a state of delusion. At some point, Arcade recovered, and returned to his usual modus operandi, capturing heroes such as Spider-Man and the Black Cat but escaping capture.

Characterization: Arcade is a highly sought after assassin, even though his record against name superheroes isn’t sterling. He enjoys the game more than the actual kill most of the time and loves to change the rules up to keep things interesting. But most of the time, once the rules are in place, he will abide by them, at least until he has time to change them up.

Friends and Foes: He had a relationship with his former assistant Miss Locke, but apparently killed her. He often creates androids with her visage. Other than that, he generally works alone, but has teamed up with other villains when it helps his game. He generally doesn’t get personal with his foes, but he seems to have a particular desire to kill Wolverine, Spider-Man and Batman above everyone else.

Motivation: Despero is driven to conquer all worlds and prove his superiority over everyone.
Power Loss: There are times where the Flames of Pytar have, or can be drained from him. If this happens, he loses his Growth and Flame of Pytar based powers and his stats drop to STR 2, STA 2, AGL 2, DEX 2, FGT 6.

Abilities 132 + Skills 13 (26 ranks) + Advantages 3 + Powers 139 + Defenses 8 = 295 / 295

Build Comments: Despero is a longtime foe of the Justice League. Sometimes he's able to take on Captain Marvel and Superman at the same time, sometimes he loses to VIBE, but I went on the high end since I need more higher level challenges for my heroes.

Secret Origins: Despero first appears when in pursuit of two rebels from the planet Kalanor, which he rules as a tyrant. They are attempting to create a weapon to defeat him. The rebels make contact with the Justice League of America with JLA member Flash accepting Despero's challenge after he places the rest of the group in a hypnotic trance, but the Flash is defeated in a game similar to chess due to Despero cheating using his third eye's mental powers, and along with the rest of the JLA sent to different worlds. Despero found out about this by reading the mind of one of the rebels he had tracked down and teleported, though her father and Flash were protected by the dimensional traveller's 'blue glow'. However, the JLA are able to escape all the dangers on the worlds and return to Earth using a dimensional traveler one of Despero's henchmen possesses after the Flash defeats him. Despero has found the rebel and plans to use the energy-absorbing weapon they hoped to use to disable his weapons to conquer Earth, but Snapper Carr uses it to weaken the villain after pretending he has been hypnotized, though the 'blue glow' protected him. Despero is then imprisoned and Kalanor is freed.

The Story so Far: The villain has his third eye surgically removed, making him lose his hypnotic powers. Eventually it grows back, he fakes his death in an explosion at a lab and in revenge ages half of the Justice League and banishes the remainder to three other worlds, where he has caused reptile, insect, and marine life to become intelligent, planning to conquer the worlds later. When Despero attempts to deceive Wonder Woman by disguising himself as an aged Superman, she overpowers the villain with her Lasso of Truth, realizing the energy should not have affected Superman, and forces him to undo his actions. Despero is thwarted again when the Justice League intervene in his intergalactic plans of conquest, save member the Martian Manhunter who is being forced to play in a life and death chess match

Despero eventually returns with even greater abilities, and a new body (now physically enhanced by the "Flame of Py'tar", a remnant of the nuclear energy responsible for creating his race), and completely destroys the Justice League Satellite. After defeating the Justice League, Despero reshapes Gotham City to suit his purposes. Taunted by Batman, Despero is eventually distracted, allowing fellow member Vibe to extinguish the Flame of Py'tar. The villain's form is immediately dispelled and reality restores itself.

Despero eventually reforms, and has continued to target the Justice League on many occasions.

Characterization: Despero has gone through virtually as many transformations as the League itself. Initially appearing as a physically weak, mind-controlling tyrant with a penchant for playing chess for the fates of his enemies, he later surfaced to be a physical powerhouse fueled by his burning, all-consuming hatred of the Justice League.

Enemy: Spider-Man.
Motivation: Above all, she wants recognition for her genius, but she has also become very interested in the multiverse.

Abilities 50 + Skills 24 (48 ranks) + Advantages 5 + Powers 84 + Defenses 12 = 175 / 175

Build Comments: I really liked the Into the Spider-Verse movie and one of the highlights for me is the Doc Ock of Miles’ world. It’s a minor spoiler, I suppose, but it’s almost been a year so if you haven’t seen it yet, you’re probably not seeing it.

She was just as terrifying as the prime Doc Ock and her inflatable arms were just as cool as the reular’s metal ones, if not a little more creative. And since there’s a Doc Ock hole in my main setting, she seems like a better choice than Carolyn Trainer to fill that role.

Secret Origins/The Story so Far: Dr. Olivia Octavius of Earth-T74 was the head scientist and CEO of Alchemax and was effectively the scientific adviser of Wilson Fisk. With Kingpin's funding, she attempted to build an inter-dimensional portal device: believing that it will make her a world-famous scientist due to the historical achievement.

The Spider-Gang succeeded in stopping the device from destroying the multiverse. She attempted to stop the Spider-Gang, but was hit by a truck that flew out of the dimensional portal; presumably killing her, but she survived and was transported to Earth-T1 where she has taken over the Doctor Octopus mantle that was abandoned by Otto Octavious who is now the Superior Spider-Man./54

Legacy: He tries to live up to the legacy of his super soldier family; his grandfather, Isaiah Bradley, the Black Captain America and his uncle Josiah X.
Relationships: His original Young Avengers teammates, Hawkeye II, Stature, Wiccan, Hulking, Speed and Iron Lad.

Abilities 76 + Skills 17 (34 ranks) + Advantages 14 + Powers 18 + Defenses 10 = 135 / 135

Build Comments: I always thought Eli’s story arc was one of the better ones in Young Avengers. And I was surprised that of all of them, he’s been the one they haven’t really brought back. I’m rectifying that in the Thorpocaverse and he’ll be making a comeback.

Secret Origins: Eli Bradley has a family legacy of heroes. After losing the secrets of the Super Soldier Serum when Dr. Erskine died, the United States Army still wanted to produce more Super Soldiers like Steve Rogers. To this end, Col. Walker Price and Dr. Wilfred Nagel took 300 African-American soldiers from Mississippi to experiment upon. Only a handful of men survived the gruesome process, and only one of them survived the covert missions and assignments: Isaiah Bradley, Eli's grandfather. His uncle, Josiah X, continued the family tradition, enlisting in Vietnam War. Later he even took up Isaiah's old Captain America uniform and joined the Crew. Before Isaiah received the Super Soldier Serum, he fathered Sarah Gail, Eli's mother. Because of this Eli was born with no superhuman abilities.

The Story so Far: Shortly after the Avengers had disbanded, a younger version of Kang the Conqueror traveled to the present era, with the goal of stopping his future self. Unsuccessful in his attempts to contact the Avengers, he downloaded the The Vision's programming and operating system from the remains of the destroyed Avengers Mansion. Among the Vision files, he found the Avengers Fail-Safe Program. Dubbing himself Iron Lad, he began to seek Avengers recruit in the New York City area. One of these recruits was Josiah X, Eli's uncle. However, Josiah had been out of contact with his family for years. Eli lied to Iron Lad, claiming to be a Super Soldier due to a blood transfusion from his grandfather, and volunteered for Iron Lad's team. Eli then began using the illegal Mutant Growth Hormone (MGH) pills to fabricate superhuman abilities. Wearing a costume very similar to that of Captain America's original sidekick, Bucky, Eli donned a full cowl and a set of five-pointed throwing stars as Patriot, and alongside his new teammates Hulkling, Asgardian and Iron Lad, formed the Young Avengers.

After several weeks of training, the Young Avengers began taking on superhero missions. Their second mission was an attempted to save two hundred guests at St. Patrick's Cathedral when they were taken hostage during Susan Bishop' wedding. Unfortunately, the Young Avengers were only successful in starting a fire and becoming hostages themselves. It was a bridesmaid, Kate Bishop, that actually saved them using one of Patriot's own throwing stars. The Young Avengers were able, however, to escape the scene before the police arrived.

After the attack, at the hospital, Kate was approached by Cassie Lang, daughter of the Avengers' Ant-Man. Together the girls tracked down the Young Avengers at the ruins of the Avengers Mansion, where the girls confronted the Young Avengers and invited themselves onto the team. Not long afterward, the Mansion was attacked by Kang the Conqueror. To join the battle, Kate donned gear from the Mansion such as Mockingbird's Battle Staves and Hawkeye's Bow. She also found the original Captain America's Shield for Patriot. After defeating Kang and saving the world, Kate and Cassie remained on as permanent members.

Captain America and Iron Man ordered the team to disband and refused to train them. However, Kate used some of her family's money and connection to procure a new lair, costumes and weapons for the team. With Iron Lad gone, Patriot and Kate took on the unofficial roles of co-leaders.

Not long after entering their secret superhero lives, Wiccan discovered Patriot was using MGH to temporarily grant him superhuman powers. After taking MGH, Patriot fought Hyde one-on-one before injecting him with an overdose of MGH and knocking him unconscious. After being forcibly calmed by Wiccan's magics, Eli woke up in recovery at Avengers Tower, with the new Vision taking care of him. After Eli revealed the true origins of his powers, he quit the team.

The other Young Avengers unsuccessfully attempted to get Eli to rejoin them. It wasn't until after Hulkling was captured by the Super-Skrull that Eli rejoin them. During the subsequent battle between the Kree, the Skrulls forces, the Young Avengers and the New Avengers, Patriot used himself to shield Captain America from gunfire and was severely injured. After the battle Captain America rushed to the hospital to give Eli a blood transfusion only to discover "another Captain America", Eli's grandfather, had already given Eli his blood. Since the transfusion, Eli has gained physical attributes and powers of a real Super Soldier.

After several other adventures, Elijah left the team while all the remaining Young Avengers were officially named full-fledged Avengers and moved to the Midwest. At some point in time, he moved to Arizona to work in voter registration, while completing his college degree. After doing so, he took up crime fighing again after the death of a friend and is working to re-enter the super hero community.

Characterization: Eli is a very driven young man with a strong desire to live up to the legacy of his grandfather.

Friends and Foes: He remains close to his Young Avengers teammates.

Solomon Grundy: Multiversal

Post by Thorpocalypse »

We've got a BORN ON A MONDAY SPECIAL on a Saturday! Check out these new builds for Aisle 1!

Image
Solomon Grundy, born on a Monday,
Christened on a stark and stormy Tuesday,
Married on a grey and grisly Wednesday,
Took ill on a mild and mellow Thursday,
Grew worse on a bright and breezy Friday,
Died on a grey and glorious Saturday,
Buried on a baking, blistering Sunday.
That was the end of Solomon Grundy.

Build Comments: Solomon Grundy, born on a Monday…

As I’ve done in the past I will be posting several versions of Grundy to give options for his various incarnations after his resurrections. This one is a mid-level version that can give lower level teams a challenge but not be an issue for my upper tier powerhouses/paragons. A Gotham version that Batman can take and a Wake The Dead version that is a Justice League level challenge, among others, will show up as well.

Secret Origins: Cyrus Gold was born some time around the early to middle 19th Century. Although accounts of his origins differ from source to source, the tale is fairly consistent that he was a Gotham City gentleman of ill repute who came to his death in Slaughter Swamp, and resurrected some years later as a horrible creature.

The Story so Far: For years, Solomon Grundy consistently haunted Gotham City, and has been known to take residence in the Gotham sewer system. During The Long Halloween, he struck up an odd kinship with Harvey Dent, as Dent was on the path to becoming Two-Face. Grundy even joined Dent's team of "costumed freaks" that was responsible for the deaths of Gotham city crime lords such as Carmine Falcone.

Grundy's appearances were not limited to Gotham, however. He fought Superman several times in Metropolis, Green Lantern Hal Jordan in Coast City, Green Lantern Kyle Rayner in San Francisco and he has been part of several incarnations of the Injustice Society and the Secret Society of Supervillains.

Characterization: Grundy’s characterization depends on the state of his resurrected form. Sometimes he’s barely stronger than a normal human, sometimes he is stronger than Superman. Sometimes he’s a gentle behemoth, sometimes he’s a murderous monster. Sometimes he’s got the intelligence of a small child, sometimes he’s a genius. Such is his curse of death of rebirth.

Friends and Foes: Again, it depends on his form but he doesn’t have any friends other than those who often use him for their own ends. He has clashed with Batman, Superman and Green Lantern on many occasions but sometimes has aided them when needed.

I like the idea of Faith, and that not EVERY superhero is born with the perfect body (I mean, even the SCIENTISTS all start off in shape)- a lack of diversity in body types is a failing of almost every artist in the business, from top to bottom. If only the artists on Faith could keep it consistent just how big she IS- in some pictures she looks like a good-looking BBW. Other times, she just looks obese and unhealthy. But that's the problem with diversity in body types... it's hard to get "right" every single time. Consistency is damn difficult.

And wait... someone brought back PINK PEARL? I've been waiting to see if she'd ever make a modern appearance! The last one before that was a friggin' Gruenwald issue! I need some Modern Showings to properly "place" her!

Yay! PINK PEARL!

I haven't read the story where she sits on Beast!

And don't forget, just like Bumbles, she can bounce too! She did it in all the Alpha Flight stories.

I totally agree about the inconsistent art. I seems like, even more so than with the ultra-fit types they normally draw, they struggle with characters like that. When they get her right, though, she's right up my BBW alley. 8-)

And I am really thinking I need to up Pearl's PL. Aurora seems like a pretty solid PL10 and she has gone toe-to-toe with her pretty well, and Beast does look like he's having a semi-hard time with her. That's a great panel.

Didn't recall that, but I can probably add a little reaction Leaping or damage, ala Bouncing Boy in a review after I get some more stuff up here.

Build Comments: Well, it had to end sometime, so this is my post Invincible comic ending Invincible build. I really dug that book for the first 10 years or so, then it kinda faded for me so I’m glad it ended before it too bad. Once Robot took over, I felt the book really lost steam.

Anyway, in regards to Mark’s build, in the books, he he continually got stronger to where he was able to stalemate his dad, Omni-Man, in an arm wrestling contest so I almost made him even, but I like him at Conner/Captain Marvel Jr. level so that’s where I built him. I like him where he’s grown a lot but isn’t his full adult self yet.

Secret Origins: Mark Sebastian Grayson is the son of Omni-Man and Deborah Grayson. When he was seven years old, Nolan (Omni-man) told him that he was an alien from a different planet and also the hero of Earth. Nolan told Mark that his people, the Viltrumites, were a race of peaceful explorers and that he had come to Earth to help mankind. He also told his son that one day he would develop super powers. Every single day of Mark's life he waited for his powers to develop, but he never got them. That was until the last year of high school. When Mark was working at his part time job, he hurled a trash bag into the air it was at least a hundred miles away speaking " it's about time".

The Story so Far: Mark has had countless adventures since he began his career, from fighting his father when he turned on humanity, joining the Teen Team, Teen Titans, Guardians of the Globe and Avengers at points, dealing with alien invasions and developing a massive rogue’s gallery of villains both infinitely powerful and pathetic on the other end.

Characterization: Mark is a normal, friendly young man. He became a superhero out of an instinctive drive to use his powers to do good works. He does enjoy the life of a superhero and will occasionally crack jokes during fights, but does not let his enthusiasm lead him into reckless action. Mark’s willingness to assess a situation and attempt negotiation has sometimes helped him avoid getting into pointless fights.

While Invincible is sometimes slightly overconfident in his abilities, he is not at all deterred when he does find himself facing an opponent powerful enough to hurt him. Over time, his universal view has gotten more jaded, but it has only encouraged him to try and fight not only harder, but smarter, in figuring out how to make Earth, and beyond, a better place.

Friends and Foes: Mark remains close to his mother, Deborah, and his half-brother Oliver, known as Kid Omni-Man. He and his father, Omni-Man (Nolan), have long reconciled and have worked and fought together many times. He is dating to his long time love Atom Eve.

He has many friends in the superhero community and remains on good terms with world security chief Cecil Stedman. He has also “franchised” the Invincible name, allowing the former Bulletproof to take on the name during a period that he had lost his powers and still allows him to function as Invincible for the Guardians of the Globe.

He has many enemies, including the dimension hopping genius Angstrom Levy, the former king of the Viltrumite empire Thragg, and countless others like Doc Seismic, Elephant, Kursk, Titan, Magmaniac and Furnace.

Build Comments: Oddly enough, these guys were Invincible's first “arch-nemesis”, the Reanimen. Created by mad scientist D.A. Sinclair, they are pretty much just super powered zombies with a death wish, oddly enough. A pack of these would be a fun thing to throw at some players.

Abilities 62 + Skills 22 (44 ranks) + Advantages 9 + Powers 56 + Defenses 17 = 166 / 166

Build Comments: I probably could have left Kate at PL8-ish, but I think that’s underpowered for her overall, really. She’s accurate in close and has a pretty effective power, so this might be OK.

And you’ll note I am posting her as Kate Pryde, not Shadowcat, which I keep seeing on Wikis and such. When was the last time she really went by Shadowcat? I’ve got probably 50 different X-comics over the past 8-10 years and I don’t see anyone calling her anything but Kitty (or now Kate) so that’s what I’m going with.

Secret Origins: Katherine Anne "Kitty" Pryde was born in Deerfield, Illinois to Carmen and Theresa Pryde. Of Jewish descent, her paternal grandfather, Samuel Prydeman, was held in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. Kitty started to have headaches at age thirteen, signaling the emergence of her mutant powers. She was approached by both the X-Men's Charles Xavier and the Hellfire Club's White Queen, Emma Frost, both of whom hoped to recruit her for their respective causes. Kitty was unnerved by Frost, observing that the White Queen had looked at her as if she were "something good to eat." She got along better with Xavier and the three X-Men who escorted him to his meeting with her and her parents, quickly becoming friends with Ororo Munroe. Ororo told Kitty who she really was and about the X-Men, which made the teenager even more enthusiastic about attending Xavier's school.

The Story so Far: Their conversation was cut short when they, along with Wolverine and Colossus, were attacked by armored mercenaries in the employ of Frost and the Hellfire Club. The X-Men defeated their assailants, but were subdued by the White Queen's telepathic powers immediately after. In the confusion, Kitty had become separated from the X-Men and therefore was not captured along with them. She managed to contact Cyclops, Phoenix, and Nightcrawler. With the help of Dazzler and Pryde, those X-Men rescued their teammates and Xavier (who had also been captured) from the Hellfire Club.

The White Queen appeared to perish in the battle, which meant she was no longer competing with Xavier for the approval of Kitty's parents. Kitty's parents had not heard from her in more than a day, because during that time she was first being pursued by the Hellfire Club's men and then working with the X-Men to save their friends. All they knew was that Kitty had left with Xavier's "students" to get a soda, there had been reports that the soda shop had been blown up, and that Kitty had been missing since. Therefore, they were angry at Xavier when he finally returned with Kitty in tow. At first, it seemed like there was no chance of Kitty being allowed to attend the school and join the X-Men. Phoenix then used her considerable telepathic power to erase the memories of Kitty's parents and plant false ones, resulting in a complete shift in their attitude towards Xavier. Kitty was then allowed to enroll at Xavier's school with her parents' blessing. She was the youngest person to join the X-Men up to that point.

Kitty joined the X-Men, and assumed the costumed identity of Sprite. Early in her career as an X-Man, Kitty's adult self from an alternate future took possession of her body in the present to help X-Men thwart the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly by the second Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. During her teen years, Kitty fostered a number of close relationships with others at the school and in the X-Men. She developed a crush on Colossus and became close friends with his little sister Illyana Rasputin. Initially uneasy around Nightcrawler and other mutants with physical deformities, Kitty finally overcame her fears and became close friends with him. Kitty also befriended Lockheed, a highly intelligent alien resembling a dragon, who followed her home after a mission in outer space. Lockheed is extremely loyal to Kitty, and the two of them share a psychic bond. Wolverine became something of a mentor to Kitty despite his usually gruff personality. Storm came to view Kitty as the daughter she never had. Kitty also made good friends with a local boy from Salem Central named Doug Ramsey around this time, but her feelings for him never went as deep as his for her, and they never actually dated, though they remained close, even more so after Doug's status as a mutant was revealed and he joined the New Mutants under the codename Cypher. They remained friends until his death some time later.

At one point, Kitty is possessed by a demon, the ninja Ogun. Ogun psychically bestows upon Kitty a virtual lifetime of martial arts training. Kitty was brainwashed by Ogun into becoming a ninja assassin, and was sent to attack Wolverine. Kitty is able to resist Ogun's influence with Wolverine's help, and the two form a strong teacher/student bond, which helps them in vanquishing Ogun. Kitty returns to the X-Men, no longer the innocent girl they once knew, and officially adopts the codename Shadowcat.

While trying to save Rogue, Kitty was badly injured by Harpoon's energy spear during the Mutant Massacre of the massacre of the Morlocks, with the result that she lost control of her power and was stuck in an intangible state and could not regain her solidity. She was rushed to Muir Island along with other surviving casualties of the Massacre to be tended to by Moira MacTaggert. MacTaggert was able to keep Kitty's condition from deteriorating to the point where she completely lost physical substance and ceased to exist, but was not able to do any more to help her.

At this time, Kitty's natural state was to be intangible. Where she once had to make a conscious effort to phase, she could now only maintain her solidity through an act of conscious will. The X-Men went to Reed Richards, Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four, for aid, but Richards initially refused because he was not sure he would be able to help. Having nowhere else to go, the X-Men turned to Richards' enemy Doctor Doom. This created a moral dilemma for both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, and both teams fought each other because the Fantastic Four were trying to stop the treatment while the X-Men were determined to save Kitty's life. In the end, both the personal crisis of the Fantastic Four and the life of Shadowcat were saved after Franklin Richards, with the help of Lockheed, brought both teams to their senses.

Thinking the X-Men were dead after a huge battle with The Adversary, Kitty and Nightcrawler joined Rachel Summers, Captain Britain, and Meggan to form the Britain-based team Excalibur. For a brief time, Kitty studied at St. Searle's school for girls in Britain. During her time with Excalibur, Kitty developed a crush on Professor Alistaire Stuart which went unreciprocated since Alistaire was attracted to Rachel. Later, she was romantically involved with former Black Air agent Pete Wisdom, to whom she gave her virginity. At some point, Kitty was recruited by the international law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D. to repair the computer system of their flying headquarters. Kitty discovered the problem was due to Ogun's spirit having infiltrated the computer system, and with the aid of Wolverine, she managed to purge Ogun's presence. During this time, Kitty was attracted to a S.H.I.E.L.D. intern her own age, and this made her begin to doubt her relationship with Wisdom. Soon after, she broke off their relationship.

After Excalibur's dissolution, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, and Colossus return to the X-Men. While tracking Mystique, she stumbles onto prophetic diaries that belonged to Irene Adler, the precognitive known as Destiny. Kitty remained with the X-Men for a while before leaving after the apparent death of Colossus. Trying to give herself a normal life, she attended the University of Chicago. During this time, her father was killed when Cassandra Nova’s Sentinels destroyed Genosha. Kitty later finds a recording of his death due to exploring footage of the attack.

Soon after, Kitty once again rejoins the X-Men, despite having extreme reservations about working with the former White Queen, given their history. This was the primary reason why Frost herself wanted Kitty on the team, as a sort of "safety" should Frost ever revert to type. Frost reasoned that the person who trusted her least would be most likely to spot such behavior. On one of the team's first missions, Shadowcat discovered Colossus was alive. After some initial awkwardness, Kitty and Peter resumed dating.

Kitty Pryde and Colossus were the two X-Men left to look after the students while the rest of the X-Men leave for Mystique's home in Mississippi to check up on Rogue, during which they are ambushed by the Marauders. Kitty and Colossus attempedt to protect the students from a faction of the Marauders led by Exodus. It is revealed over the course of the story that Kitty, worried of the Destiny Diaries' safety, devised a plan with Cyclops and Emma Frost to hide them and have Emma wipe the location from her mind. The location could only be revealed by a code word spoken to Kitty. The battle concluded with a battle between Iceman and Cannonball against the Marauders for the diaries, during which they are destroyed by Gambit.

Later, she and her X-team were transported to S.W.O.R.D.'s air station en route to Ord's Breakworld. As the team prepares to end the confrontation with the Breakworld leader, the team splits up—with Kitty on the team appointed to stop the missile pointed at Earth. Kitty phases into the missile to disrupt its circuitry noting that it is composed of the same material as the rest of Breakworld, a material that’s difficult and exhausting for her to phase through. After phasing for a mile into the missile, Kitty finds the center only to discover it empty. The missile is fired, causing Kitty to pass out inside of it as Beast discovers too late that due to its shape, trajectory, and lack of internal circuitry, the Breakworld's weapon is not a missile, but a bullet. As the bullet hurtles toward Earth, Kitty lies unconscious within it.

As the situation becomes increasingly dire, Emma establishes mental contact with Kitty, reassuring her that she will come out of this fine, though it eventually becomes clear to both that the situation will be grim. Kitty and Emma come to an understanding and reconciliation, Emma stating that she never wanted something like this to happen to her. Kitty then phases the bullet through Earth, but is trapped within. Scott Summers mentions that Doctor Strange, Reed Richards, and some "top men" tried to save her, but believe she has fused to the bullet, as it continues to hurtle through space. Whether she is alive or dead is unknown, though the X-Men consider her lost to them. She is briefly mentioned in the aftermath of the Messiah Complex, by Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Wolverine, as the three of them discuss "losing her."

To cope with Kitty's loss, Colossus takes down a group of Russian criminals dealing in human trafficking, and gets a tattoo of the name 'Katya' on his chest. Emma begins having a recurring dream in which she hears a voice whom she believes is Kitty's trying to reach out to her. It was later confirmed by Abigail Brand that Kitty Pryde was still alive within the bullet, but because the bullet's design would harden as time went on, it would become increasingly difficult to break the bullet open.

After the X-Men move to the island of Utopia, Magneto arrives on the island professing his desire to join and support the X-Men in their effort to unite the world's remaining mutants. The X-Men reluctantly let him stay, remaining wary of him despite his efforts to gain their trust. In a final bid to gain their trust, Magneto focuses his powers, attempting to divert the interstellar path of the metal bullet Kitty is trapped in and bring her home to Earth. Meanwhile inside the bullet, Kitty is revealed to still be alive. Unbeknownst to the others, Magneto had encountered the bullet earlier while attempting to regain his powers with the High Evolutionary and surmised that Kitty was inside. Despite this and the High Evolutionary's apparent ability to retrieve the bullet and Kitty, Magneto chose to focus on regaining his powers, secretly keeping tabs on the bullet until his decision to draw it back to Earth. During her time trapped inside the bullet, Kitty keeps herself and the bullet phased to avoid collisions with any inhabited objects in its path. Magneto brings her safely down to Earth, with the help of Doctor Strange, by cracking the bullet in two and levitating Kitty to the ground. When she and Colossus try to touch, it is revealed that she is trapped in her intangible form, unable to speak, and the X-Men place her in a protective chamber similar to the one used for her following the events of the Mutant Massacre. How Kitty survived her time in the bullet is unclear to the X-Men's science team, where the X-Men discover that all her bodily functions halted. An analysis by Kavita Rao hypothesizes that Kitty created an intense muscle memory to keep herself and the bullet phased and has "forgotten" how to un-phase.

Later, the Breakworlders make their way to Earth. During the conflict between the Breakworlder Kr'uun and the X-Men, Kitty is slain and resurrected by Kr'uun's mate in an alien ritual, which results in her powers returning to normal.

After several more adventures, Kitty has started going by Kate in effort to shake her “X-kid” background and has become the leader of a new version of the Marauders.

Characterization: Besides her mutant powers, Kate is a genius in the field of applied technology and computer science. She is highly talented in the design and use of computer hardware. She is a skilled pilot of piston and jet engine aircraft, and a competent pilot of certain advanced interstellar vehicles. She has previously shown a unique ability to wield the Soulsword and also be harmed by it. Since her possession by the ninja demon Ogun, she has been consistently shown to be an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, having since been endowed with a lifetime of training in the martial arts of Japanese ninja and samurai, such as aikido, karate, and ninjutsu. She is also trained in the Israeli martial art of Krav Maga. She is a professional-level dancer in both ballet and modern dance. She speaks fluent English, Japanese, Russian, and the royal and standard languages of the alien Shi'ar and Skrull, and has moderate expertise in Gaelic, Hebrew, and German.

Friends and Foes: As noted above, Kate has several strong relationships within the X-Family, including being close to Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Magik among others. Her greatest relationship has been with Colossus, although they have currently gone their separate ways romantically.

Build Comments: I have been loving Jonathan Hickman’s new X-Men run with House of X and Powers of X. He is really living up to his “big idea guy” rep. The new status quo he’s setting up for the mutants is going to give he and the other X-Verse writers a plethora of story opportunities. I am going to try and set up my current X-Verse in a similar state and I will try to avoid spoilers but there may be a few as I update and build new characters out.

In that new world, all mutants have an open invitation to be part of the new mutant nation of Krakoa. As such, instead of building Krakoa as a character, I built them as a headquarters. I need to add stuff as I continue to read more of Dawn of X, but this seems like a good start.

Secret Origins: Krakoa was originally believed to have a very small island in the Pacific Ocean that was located close to where some nuclear bombing tests were done. It was thought radiation somehow turned the island's ecosystem into a hive-mind entity.

When Cypher communed with Krakoa at Professor X's urging, Krakoa related a story of it's past. Long ago, it was part of a greater land called Okkara, but it was attacked by an enemy wielding a twilight sword. Okkara was split into two creatures, Krakoa and Arakko. Apocalypse arrived with his First Horsemen and sealed away the enemy. However, both Arakko and the Horsemen had to be sealed away with them, leaving Krakoa feeling mournful and lonely.

The Story so Far: The X-Men (then consisting of Cyclops, Angel, Havok, Iceman, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey) and Polaris) came to the island after Cerebro detected an unknown mutant there, and were captured by Krakoa, who used them as food sources. Another team of young mutants, composed of Petra, Darwin, Sway and the third Summers brother Kid Vulcan, from a parallel X-Mansion led by Moira McTaggart, were sent to help the original X-Men. They managed to save Cyclops and returned him to Professor X. However Krakoa killed Petra and Sway and left Darwin and Kid Vulcan almost dead. Xavier had erased all records of the real events in Cyclops' mind, and altered the mutants' minds to cast the illusion of a speaking, sentient Krakoa.

Professor X decided to recruit international mutants to save his X-Men, namely Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, Sunfire, Thunderbird, Banshee and Wolverine, and sent them to Krakoa. Cyclops' group of mutants paired off and after each pair encounter and defeated various aspects of the island, the new X-Men team found the original X-Men, who were weakened from being fed upon by Krakoa for so long. At this point, it was revealed that the island was itself the mutant they had originally detected and Krakoa battled the new and old X-Men by forming a giant humanoid body out of its terrain. With a combination of psi interference by Professor X and energy blasts from Cyclops and Havok, Storm was able to supercharge Polaris' magnetic powers with bolts of lightning. Polaris interacted with the Earth's core and created a magnetic pulse so strong that she was able to launch Krakoa into outer space. The X-Men - then counting thirteen members - were saved.

He was captured by the enigmatic alien, the Stranger, and were imprisoned in the Stranger's Labworld for the alien to study him. He remained their until freed by Overmind.

After apparently abandoning his dream for peaceful coexistence, X ultimately repurposed Krakoa into a sovereign nation state for mutants. Now donning a portable Cerebro, X seemingly recruited and experimented on Krakoa with the help of Cypher. Both expanding Krakoa's consciousness and cultivating its biome to include exotic flowers that can be used for various purposes, as such becoming the primary economic resource of the mutant nation.

These Flowers of Krakoa could grow Habitats, self-sufficient offshoots of Krakoa that served as embassies around the solar system, while remaining connected to its hive mind via Gateways, which provided ways to instantly travel from one part of Krakoa to another.

In addition, X bought world leading pharmaceutical companies with his vast wealth to produce three new super drugs from Krakoan flowers, offering them to every country that formally recognized Krakoa as a nation. These drugs -- dubbed I, L, and M -- operate as a adaptive antibiotic, extend the human lifespan by five years, and prevent human "diseases of the mind" respectively, allegedly hereby solving the devastating health problems in humans.

Build Comments: Can’t believe I haven’t gotten to Big A before now. Especially since almost every “see which superhero/supervillain you are most like” online quiz that I take puts me the most like him, which is part of why I chose my online moniker.

I really think they’ve done a good job of keeping him relevant over the years, even though some of the incarnations and arcs have missed, the newest with Genesis is a hit for sure. I'll get to Genesis in the not too distant future when I really hit the X-verse, which I have been putting off since it's such a big group to work through.

Secret Origins: Apocalypse is a mutant born 5000 years ago in Akkaba, and was abandoned as an infant due to his unnatural appearance. He was rescued by Baal of the Sandstormers who saw the child's potential power and decided to raise him as his own, naming him En Sabah Nur. Throughout his life, Baal taught Nur survival of the fittest, the philosophy that the tribe lives and dies by. At the same time, the time-traveler Kang the Conqueror had arrived in Egypt and became the Pharaoh Rama-Tut, intending to recruit the young Apocalypse. Rama-Tut learned that Nur had been raised by Baal and sent General Ozymandias with his army to destroy the Sandstormers and find Nur. Nur and Baal avoided the battle, having found refuge in a sacred cave before it collapsed. Both were severely injured, and Baal eventually died. Nur survived and vowed to take revenge on Rama-Tut. He traveled to Tut's city where he posed as a slave and drew the attention of Ozymandias's sister, Nephri, who became attracted to the mysterious slave. However Nephri rejected Nur upon seeing his inhuman appearance, and turned to her brother for protection in her panic. Heartbroken by this final rejection, En Sabah Nur's prodigious mutant abilities fully emerged in his enraged state, and he renamed himself Apocalypse. Rama-Tut fled the former slave's rampage, while Nur used his advanced technology to enslave and transform his former tormentor, Ozymandias, into a blind seer made of living stone to forever chronicle Apocalypse's future destinies. Fifty years later, Nur revisited Nephri, now an elderly Egyptian Queen on her deathbed, and mocked the loss of her beauty and vitality, in contrast to his own unchanged appearance, despite the passage of time.

The Story so Far: As the millennia pass, Apocalypse travels around the world to determine if his time of testing has come. He appears throughout history, encouraging civilizations to worship him as a god from several ancient mythologies and testing their strength by manipulating them into fighting wars of conquest, and claiming to have brought "growth, judgment, and destruction." Apocalypse begins to beget progeny, who faithfully followed him as the Clan Akkaba. At some point, Apocalypse discovers advanced alien technology, which he uses to transform and enhance himself. Apocalypse enters states of suspended animation, while he waits for mutants to become more common, leaving Clan Akkaba and Ozymandias to act in his stead while he sleeps. Apocalypse has some history of having fought the race of godlike immortals known as Eternals, primarily the members Ikaris and Sersi, having been referred to as their "Ancient Nemesis".

In the year 1013 A.D., Apocalypse seeks to destroy Thor, an enemy who will cause him trouble in the future according to information given by his former master, the time-traveling Rama-Tut (Kang the Conqueror). Apocalypse fights the Norse god into retreat in Scandinavia, only to suffer a devastating injury during their next encounter in the skies of London, as Thor attacks with his axe "Jarnbjorn" that has been enchanted to break Apocalypse's armor. Apocalypse retreats as Rama-Tut escapes with Jarnbjorn in hand. Odin identifies Apocalypse as "evolutionary caretaker of the Celestials", who granted Apocalypse his armor.

In the 12th century, Apocalypse would encounter the Eternal Sersi again, when he came across the crusader Bennet du Paris and awakened his latent mutant powers, transforming him into Exodus.

In Victorian London, 1859, Apocalypse encountered Nathaniel Essex, a British scientist, and through him, learns the scientific term for beings like himself – mutant. Coercing Essex and members of the Hellfire Club into working for him, Apocalypse plots the first steps in his quest for global conflict on an unprecedented scale. He uses his advanced technology to transform Nathaniel into Mister Sinister, and commands him to create a plague to ravage and transmute the population of the world. At the same time, the mutant heroes Cyclops and Jean Grey (as Phoenix) had been sent back through time to stop Apocalypse. Close to slaying the British Royal Family, Apocalypse is suddenly greatly weakened, and Cyclops and Phoenix manage to defeat him. It is revealed that Sinister had betrayed Apocalypse, seeing his vision of the future as madness, and had instead created a plague that attacked only Apocalypse, forcing the ancient mutant into his hibernation sanctuary.

In 1897, Apocalypse is awakened by his followers, in order to deal with Dracula, who is turning members of Clan Akkaba into vampires to battle Apocalypse, as revenge for his earlier defeat centuries ago as Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler). Apocalypse, with some assistance from Abraham Van Helsing, kills Dracula.
.
Apocalypse spends many years hidden, but awakes from his slumber due to the arrival of the mysterious time-traveling mutant Cable, who ironically, had come to the present to prevent the ancient mutant's awakening. Awakened almost a century earlier than he had planned, Apocalypse decides to examine the world and determine its conditions for testing. He grants superhuman powers to the terrorist known as Moses Magnum, who does his bidding by testing the strong and winnowing the weak, battling the X-Men and the Avengers. Apocalypse first crossed paths with the original X-Men team who were then organized as the mutant hunting group, X-Factor, when he briefly employs the Alliance of Evil, and orders them to capture the mutant Michael Nowlan. Apocalypse plans to use Nowlan's power-boosting mutation to provide mutantkind with unlimited power. This plan was foiled by X-Factor team.

Apocalypse later recruited mutants to serve as his Four Horsemen. Among them was Angel, whom Apocalypse saved from an exploding plane, granting him artificial wings after he had lost his own natural wings when they were damaged and had to be amputated in exchange for his servitude. The X-Factor member is reborn as Death, and is made the leader of the Four Horsemen. Apocalypse summoned the X-Factor team to his cloaked ship, which floats invisibly above the city. Apocalypse was interested in this group of mutants and had studied them, monitored their activities, and researched their origins and motives after learning of Professor Xavier and the X-Men. Apocalypse explained his scheme to unleash his Horsemen and destroy New York, and offers X-Factor a place at his side. In the end, the Horsemen are defeated by X-Factor, thanks to the help of both the reformed Angel after Iceman faked his death to bring Angel to his senses, as well as Power Pack. Apocalypse left his Celestial Ship for them and in return, takes the willing Morlock Caliban.

Apocalypse has been involved in many battles with X-Force, the X-Men, the Justice League, Avengers and Stormwatch over the years. He has had several incarnations of his Four Horsemen, with Wolverine, Hulk, Flash, Midnighter, Gambit, Bonechill and several other superhumans having heen served in different roles. Recently, In a massive assault on Washington, D.C., he was confronted by X-Force and Stormwatch Black and he was killed by a combined assault from Cable and Midnighter.

Ozymandias and Clan Akkaba have once again resurrected Apocalypse, but this time in the form of a child. In this form, Apocalypse seemed to have no memory of his past or his previous disregard for life. Ozymandias and the Celestial Ship took to tutoring and indoctrinating the child. To protect this young En Sabah Nur, The Final Horsemen, mutants collected over centuries, were activated. War, Pestilence, Famine, Death battled X-Force on the Blue Area of the Moon and nearly defeated them. However, due largely to Fantomex's illusions, the team apparently killed the Horsemen and Ozymandias. When they discovered the young Apocalypse, the team fought over what to do with him. The issue was rendered moot when Fantomex shot the boy in the head leading to Archangel taking his place as the instrument of the Celestials.

Apocalypse was cloned and raised by Fantomex as a hero, named Evan Sabah Nur. He tried his best to defeat the mad Archangel, providing the opportunity for Psylocke to attack him with the Seed of Life. After the battle, Fantomex decided to send Evan to Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.

Genesis' first day in school wasn't very good, as everyone could see that he looked like Apocalypse. When Deathlok came to the school to give a guest lecture, he told the students their possible futures. When he looked at Genesis, Deathlok saw a devastated world where Genesis became Apocalypse and destroyed the Jean Grey School and killed Krakoa and him. Deathlok ended the lecture and left. Evan was worried and followed him to ask Deathlok what he sees in his future. Deathlok answered that Evan is in the school to find out by himself. Later Deathlok tells Logan that Evan has great potential and may become their greatest savior or that he may trod upon their graves.

Later, after being called Kid Apocalypse, Evan started to read about Apocalypse. When Husk saw this, Evan told her that he knew the other kids think he looks like Apocalypse and he admits that there is a resemblance between them but that he will never be like Apocalypse. After saving Warren, who was trying to prove he was a real Angel by flying to heaven, Evan learns that Warren can see the essence of other people. Evan asks Angel what he sees when he looks at him. Warren told him that he can see only goodness inside him which made Evan happy, but the truth was Warren could only see the image of Apocalypse.

En Sabah Nur later returned in secret and eventually returned to his full power. When Professor X and Magneto founded the new mutant nation of Krakoa, Xavier sent out a telepathic call to all mutants, offering amnesty and a place in Krakoa. Apocalypse received the call and traveled to Krakoa with many other former enemies of the X-Men. Declaring that he had spent millennia trying to shape mutantkind into something worthy, he told them that he was proud of what they had accomplished and agreed to submit to all the laws of Krakoa. He was given a place on the ruling body of Krakoa, sitting alongside Xavier and Magneto.

Characterization: Apocalypse has a simple philosophy that the strong survive and is constantly testing humanity and mutantkind to determine which will be the dominant species. He is a genius, a level of which humanity cannot comprehend and has knowledge of certain areas of biology, primarily genetic engineering and mutation, and technology that are far in advance of contemporary science and technology. This was not merely a result of his exposure to alien technology, as he was able to make significant new advances beyond the alien materials to which he was exposed to.

Friends and Foes: He has hundreds, if not thousands, of loyal followers in Clan Akkaba. While he has battled many of Earth’s heroes (and villains) over the years, his greatest foe is Cable.
