No, Clark, you're missing the point of the question. Why do I keep that giant penny? Or old costumes, models of the Batmobile? Orphans are collectors, Clark. Losing so much... makes it that much harder to give things up. - Batman

Really been going over my Batman (again), in preparation for a test. I hit the Gadget Guides again, which just seem made for improving Bruce's equipment. I added some Autopilot features to the Bat vehicles among some other adjustments and I'm testing a new mechanic for his Batsuit to add some ranks of Intimidation because of the Cowl. Of course, Bruce is a master of motivation, but once he becomes a Bat, he can take it to a new level.

Post by Thorpocalypse »

HAPPY NEW YEAR from J-Mart! Since we have a whole holiday weekend to do it, our review of the inventory is mostly complete and the annual planning process is in full swing! So with that, we can get back to the builds as we start setting up location for the first tests of the year! Check out this key item for Aisle 1 as we start unloading the big shipment from our Gotham location!

This might not be the time to say it... but there might never be time again -- I hate this city -- the crime and corruption and the filth and the subway and the crowds! But... I love it, too. It's part of me, the way it's part of you. If Gotham dies, they might as well bury me with her. There've been a lot of regrets in my life, Batman. But there's one thing I won't ever regret -- that you and I fought in the same war. - James Gordon

Build Comments: Commissioner Gordon, one of the characters on the short list of greatest supporting character in comics. Where would Batman, and the rest of the Bat-family be without his support over the years?

In my setting, he’s what he’s always been; one of the few good cops left in Gotham and an invaluable ally to the Bat Family.

Secret Origins: Rookie cop James W. Gordon was transferred from Gotham City to Chicago as part of a plan by Gillian Loeb, then a captain, to cover up events that would eventually lead to the creation of the first Wrath, Gordon having shot a dirty cop and his wife while they were sneaking out of a warehouse. Gordon complied when Loeb threatened to kill the couple's young son. During his tenure in Chicago, Gordon struggled with his wife, Barbara Eileen Gordon over conceiving a child, and took university night classes in criminology. He faced brutality amongst the other officers after uncovering corruption within the force. Later, Gordon uncovered evidence of rigging in the mayoral election, and brought down two more of his fellow officers. Eventually, his commissioner recommended a speedy transfer to Gotham City for him, both for his own safety and for theirs.

The Story so Far: A man of integrity, the newly-promoted Lt. Gordon found that his only ally against the mob-controlled Gotham police department was the fledgling Batman, although he was forced to keep their working relationship out of the public eye whenever possible. They have been staunch allies for a decade. Gordon is able to contact Batman with the Bat-Signal, and usually meets with him on the rooftop of Gotham City Police Headquarters.

To his constant annoyance, Batman often disappears silently while Gordon's back is turned, often while he's in the middle of talking. Gordon forged an alliance in his early years with Batman and Harvey Dent, Gotham's District Attorney, as the three most dedicated and capable people to take down organized crime in Gotham, namely the "Roman Empire," the crime family led by Carmine Falcone. Although they did succeed, it was at the cost of Harvey's sanity, and he became the villainous Two-Face after being scarred with acid by one of Falcone's underlings, Sal Maroni. To this day, the loss of Harvey Dent, not just the ally but the man, is one of Gordon's greatest regrets, and he somewhat blames himself for not trusting Dent when the evidence pointed towards him.

Characterization: Jim Gordon is the face of the GCPD, facing an uphill battle against the corruption within the system and the mayhem outside. He is the moral compass of the force and probably on the short list of the most respected men in the city.

Friends and Foes: He loves his daughter Barbara, and even though he has had several issues, his son James Jr. He has begun a friendship with his ex-wife Barbara Eileen since her return to Gotham.

His greatest relationship is with Batman. Both have come to the others’ aid more times than they can count. While he has never shared it, it’s widely believed that Gordon knows his secret identity and has often worked to protect the secret.

My view is, when it comes to Gotham, you don't know it, brother. It knows you. And the moment you think otherwise, the moment you get too comfortable... that's when it stabs you in the back. Because above everything, Gotham is a mystery. - Harvey Bullock

Pain In The Ass: Harvey can be quite abrasive at times.

Responsibility: To protect and serve Gotham City.
Rivalry: The Bat Family.

Abilities 28 + Skills 25 (50 ranks) + Advantages 9 + Powers 0 + Defenses 10 = 72 / 72

Build Comments: I really tried to give Gotham a chance, but it just didn’t hold my interest. It’s on Season 3 as of this posting, so I guess it does have an audience, but I couldn’t stay part of it. The best part of it, by far, IMHO, was Donal Logue’s Harvey Bullock. He was a great sleazy compliment to the young, virtuous Jim Gordon. In the comics, they’ve backed away from that of side of thim, but I love it. Even so, in the DC continuity, he’s the epitome of the old, grumpy, rumpled cop and he’s been a mainstay of the Batman mythos forever, it seems.

Secret Origins: Harvey Bullock is perhaps the most controversial police officer in the Gotham City Police Department. His colleagues in the Major Crimes Unit will swear up and down that he is a good cop, despite his reputation for taking bribes, police brutality, and ties to organized crime being on the top. It is believed that Bullock is the one who gave up the location of James Gordon's shooter to the Mafia, as the shooter himself was actually in the witness protection program. He also stayed in Gotham City during the No Man's Land incident. Bullock has also been one of Batman's biggest foes on the GCPD, but has not gone to the extremes that others have to apprehend the vigilante. His partner on the GCPD was Renee Montoya, until he resigned, following an internal investigation. He became a private detective for a while until he rejoined the force.

The Story so Far: Following the events of Infinite Crisis, Bullock was back on the force and offered one chance. If he ever made a mistake, any mistake, he would be fired again. While he's still not a fan of the vigilantes, Bullock now assists Batman and Robin in their investigations. Or at least, he doesn’t openly go against them.

Friends and Foes: Harvey has several friends on the force, but more detractors. But Commissioner Jim Gordon is not among them and the former partner remains one of Gordon’s top confidants.

Responsibility: To protect and serve Gotham City.
Temper: She is working through them but she has some anger issues.

Abilities 48 + Skills 27 (54 ranks) + Advantages 12 + Powers 0 + Defenses 10 = 97 / 97
Build Comments: Renee Montoya was a decent character in Batman TAS and became a pretty compelling one in the GCPD series. She springboarded off of that to become the new Question in the DCU, but I think they made a mistake with the runaway success of The Question in JLU coming right around that time. I haven’t seen much of her in the New 52/Rebirth, though, so I’m assuming she’s back on the GCPD, which is where she is in the Thorpocaverse.

I built Montoya in pre-Question mode for my Gotham where she is still partners with Crispus Allen and is one of the best cops on the force.

Secret Origins: Renee Montoya was a police officer in Gotham City. She was partnered with Harvey Bullock when she was promoted to homicide detective by Commissioner James Gordon. As partners, Bullock and Renee became close friends. After Bullock was promoted to Lieutenant, Crispus Allen became Renee's new partner.

The Story so Far: When Gotham was destroyed by an earthquake, Renee formed a friendship with the criminal Two-Face. She was able to reach the kinder Harvey Dent persona, and he fell in love with her. However, Two-Face was still mentally unstable. Believing that the only way to have her was by taking everything else away from her, his more sinister side later outed her as a lesbian to the public and had her framed for murder.

He then had the bus carrying her to prison attacked and kidnapped her, making it look like she had escaped. When Renee discovered that it was Two-Face who was behind everything, and that he did it because he was in love with her, she was incredulous. Two-Face then became more unstable and the two fought for control of his gun. Batman arrived in time to prevent the two from killing each other. Two-Face was put back in Arkham Asylum and Renee was cleared of all the charges. Her life was still in chaos, however, especially her family; while her younger brother knew about her sexuality, her very religious parents didn't, and disowned her upon discovering the truth.

Characterization: Renee is a good cop, but has several inner demons that she fights on a regular basis. She has had problems with anger and alcohol abuse, as well as coming to grips with going public about her sexual orientation.

Friends and Foes: She has good friends in Crispus Allen and Harvey Bullock. Commissioner Gordon has always been in her corner as well. She is friends with her ex-girlfriend Kate Kane and has been supportive of Kate’s relationship with Maggie Sawyer.

COMPLICATIONS:
Relationships: His family and his partner, Renee Montoya.
Responsibility: To protect and serve Gotham City.

Abilities 38 + Skills 21 (42 ranks) + Advantages 7 + Powers 0 + Defenses 10 = 76 / 76

Build Comments: Crispus Allen is not the host of The Spectre in the Thorpacoverse. He’s still a detective on the GCPD, one of the more streetwise of the crew, with tons of contacts and known as a bit of a roughneck. He and Montoya are like brother and sister, though, and are some of Gordon’s favorites.

I always liked the original Jim Corrigan as the host of the Spectre, but I think I am going to have to come up with someone else to bear the mantle. Maybe Pym….

Secret Origins: Crispus Allen had his start as a police officer in Metropolis but transferred to Gotham City with his wife Dore and his two teenaged sons Jake and Malcolm. He joined James Gordon's Major Crimes Unit and was partnered with Renee Montoya, replacing her old partner Harvey Bullock. Because of his well-dressed and proud style, he had to put up with Bullock referring to him as "Peacock." But he was a good detective. He was one of the GCPD's best, and he was so by doing things by the book.

When it came to the subject of Batman, he was no fan but understood the vigilante to be an unfortunate necessity of Gotham City.

The Story so Far: Following the shooting of James Gordon, Crispus alongside his partner Renne Montoya begin searching for Catwoman, the prime suspect in the shooting. However, Nightwing, Azrael, Batgirl and Robin manage to uncover evidence of her innocence with the shooter being revealed to be a Gotham cop by the name of Jordan Rich. The Gotham Police Department, arrested him and brought him in to gain a confession. During the course of the interrogation Cris plays good cop, while Montoya plays bad cop, attacking Jordan. However Cris's refusal to call in the Batman les to Jordan's being released.

When Bruce Wayne was framed for the murder of Vesper Fairchild, Cris was put as the primary detective on the case and he believed in Bruce Wayne's guilt. The evidence was clear. There seemed to be no reason to doubt it. After all, he had no idea this man was really Batman. Bruce Wayne going fugitive after being charged did not help Cris' impression on his guilt. Instead, Cris believed Wayne's butler Alfred somehow aided in the escape, yet he was not convinced that Wayne had actually left Gotham as most speculated. The case was closed when David Cain waltzed into the precinct and confessed to framing Wayne.

Friends and Foes: Crispus is good friends with Renee Montoya and Harvey Bullock. He has a family that he loves and a rivalry with alleged dirty cop Jim Corrigan.

This new addition addition to our GCPD Line comes from more of a DARK place in our DC Aisle!

Not a lot of people know what it feels like to be angry, in your bones. I mean, they understand, foster parents, everybody 'understands', for awhile. Then they want the angry little kid to do something he knows he can't do, move on. So after awhile they stop understanding. They send the angry kid to a boy's home. I figured it out too late. You gotta learn to hide the anger, practice smiling in the mirror. It's like putting on a mask. - John Blake

COMPLICATIONS:
Motivation: Channeling his anger to make a difference.
Relationships: He is close to the children at the orphanage where he grew up.
Responsibility: To serve and protect Gotham City.

Abilities 42 + Skills 18 (36 ranks) + Advantages 11 + Powers 0 + Defenses 10 = 81 / 81

Build Comments: I really liked the John Blake character in Dark Knight Rises. I thought Gordon-Levitt did a good job as a complimentary ally to Commissioner Gordon and Bruce. He had a few “supercop” moments, but not too over the top. I didn't think he could carry a new franchise as Robin or Nightwing, or even as the new Batman, and I was right. But still, I think he's a good addition to the Bat mythos of the Nolan-verse.

Secret Origins: During his childhood, Blake's mother died when he was at a young age and later on, his father died when he was nine. With that, he then lived in Gotham City's orphanage. He created a mask for himself by hiding his anger behind a smile. Channeling that anger into a desire to protect those few he grew to care about, he became a Gotham City cop.

The Story so Far: He also idolized Batman, and as his legend grew he became a staunch supporter, even during the periods that the GCPD and to The Dark Knight were at odds. After assisting Batman in bringing in Two-Face during one of their many encounters, he gained the trust of Batman who began to utilize him as a resource for information.

A few years ago, he deduced that Bruce Wayne was the Caped Crusader when he sees the similar attempt at hiding his anger when the playboy billionaire visited the orphanage. He hasn’t shared it yet, although through sly comments in their few encounters since, he has intimated to Batman that he knows. Over time, he has become one of Gordon’s most trusted men and remains a stedfast supporter of The Dark Knight, which has gotten him into several arguments with Harvey Bullock and others.

COMPLICATIONS:
Relationships: She is working to restore her relationship with her daughter and is in a committed relationship with Kate Kane.
Responsibility: To the serve and protect.

Abilities 46 + Skills 17 (34 ranks) + Advantages 8 + Powers 0 + Defenses 7 = 78 / 78

Build Comments: So they had the Batwoman trade at DC online for $5 so I downloaded it to the old iPhone and I dig it. I am loving Maggie Sawyer as Kate’s girlfriend, although I guess now they’re engaged but since the original creative team left, I don’t know where that story is going to go.

Anyway, Maggie’s been around the DCU for ages and I’m glad she’s getting some good run again. I like her in Metropolis and I like her in Gotham, too.

Secret Origins: Maggie Sawyer was born in Star City, and joined the police of her native city. When she rose to the rank of Lieutenant, she married her captain, James Buchanan Sawyer. They had one daughter together, Jamie, but the marriage stranded when Maggie determined she was a lesbian. The divorced, and Jim got the custody over Jamie. Maggie moved to Metropolis.

The Story so Far: In Metropolis, Maggie joined the Special Crimes Unit, working in situations that would normally require Superman but without the assistance of the Man of Steel. She also began dating Toby Raynes, a reporter for the Metropolis Star.

As Superman's primary police contact and a no-nonsense cop, she was a source of constant aggravation for the Man of Steel when she tried to prove that the police were more efficient than vigilantes. Eventually Superman rescued her during a terrorist plot and things were smoothed out between the two. Still, as a Captain, Maggie often overstepped her rank by ordering around officers who were above her, angering some. Following the death of Superman, William Henderson promoted her to Inspector, resolving the issue.

When Michael Akins became Commissioner of Gotham City, Maggie was transferred to head up Gotham City Police Department's Major Crimes Unit. This put a strain on her relationship with Toby, as the reporter opted to stay in Metropolis. After Harvey Bullock uncovered rampant corruption in Gotham PD, Maggie was one of the few people associated with Akins to remain on the force.

After the events of Final Crisis, Maggie and Toby's long-distance relationship ended. When she met Kate Kane at a dance, she asked Kate to dance and for her number. The two have been in a relationship pretty much ever since.

Characterization: Maggie has a reputation as a the by the book cop, but one that Superman, Batman and Batwoman have come to trust as an ally.

Friends and Foes: She has worked to try and keep a relationship with her daughter, although her ex-husband doesn’t make it easy. She is currently in a serious relationship with Kate Kane, the Batwoman.

Toughness +2 (+2 without Defensive Roll, +3 against ballistics), Fortitude +4, Will +4

COMPLICATIONS:
Relationships: She is close to her partner, Ethan Bennett.
Responsibility: To serve and protect Gotham City.

Abilities 46 + Skills 20 (40 ranks) + Advantages 11 + Powers 0 + Defenses 10 = 87 / 87

Build Comments: This is Gotham City cop, Ellen Yin, from the early 2000's Fox The Batman series. Ellen and her partner, Ethan Bennett, were originally trying to take down The Batman, but end up being on his side, and Ellen ended up with The Batman as her de facto partner after Ethan was turned into Clayface by The Joker. She is an above average cop and she showed some serious martial arts skill in her first run in with the Riddler, so she gets plenty of Advantages to showcase that ability as well.

And OK, I admit it. I liked The Batman. I'm actually rewatching some of it on Netflix. Yes, it a was purely designed to sell toys and yes, the animation is iffy and yes, they made all the Gotham villains move like freakin' luchadores (even Penguin, it was unnerving at times) but it was fun. And some of the ideas, like Ellen's partner, Ethan, were good, they just didn't carry through with them like they should.

I accept your scorn as you see fit...

Secret Origins The Story so Far/Characterization/Friends and Foes: Ellen Yin was the partner assigned to detective Ethan Bennett. She hoped to defeat Batman in hand-to-hand combat and unmask him. She is shown to be fond of her partner and is as physically adept as any male cop she knows. Previously head of her department in Metropolis, she transferred to Gotham City looking for a challenge. She's a career cop at the top of her game, simple and by the book.

Not warming to Bruce Wayne so easily, she didn’t see past his swinging billionaire persona and despises his seemingly silver-spoon arrogance. Ellen doesn't have it out personally for The Batman, but as a vigilante, he's breaking the law.

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 2, STAMINA 3, AGILITY 2, DEXTERITY 3, FIGHTING 6, INTELLECT 2, AWARENESS 3, PRESENCE 2

SKILLS: Acrobatics 2 (+4), Athletics 4 (+6), Deception (+2), Expertise [Cop] 5 (+7), Insight 3 (+6), Intimidation 1 (+3), Investigation 4 (+6), Perception 3 (+6), Persuasion 4 (+6), Ranged Combat [Guns] 3 (+6), Stealth 2 (+4), Vehicles 1 (+4)

ADVANTAGES: Benefit (1) (GCPD Clearance), Defensive Roll (1), Equipment (4), Teamwork

POWERS:
NONE

EQUIPMENT:

Light Undercover Vest: Protection 1, Limited to Ballistic Damage, Subtle; 1 pt

Flashlight: Feature 1 (Illumination); 1 pt
Handcuffs: Feature 1 (Toughness 9, DC20 Sleight of Hand/Technology); 1 pt
Heavy Pistol: Ranged Ballistic Damage 4; 8 pts
Vehicle: (11 pts [Ethan pays for half])
Mid-Size Car: Size - L, Strength - 5, Speed - 5, Def - 8, Tough - 8; 10 pts (1/2 paid by her partner, Crispus Allen)

OFFENSE:
Initiative +2
Close Attack +6 [Unarmed +2]
Ranged Attack +3
Guns +6 [Heavy Pistol +4]

DEFENSES:
Dodge +6 [DC16] Parry +6 [DC16]
Toughness +4 (+3 without Defensive Roll, +5 against ballistics), Fortitude +4, Will +4

COMPLICATIONS:
Relationships: He has been friends with Bruce Wayne since high school and is close to his partner, Ellen Yin.
Responsibility: To serve and protect Gotham City.

Abilities 46 + Skills 16 (32 ranks) + Advantages 7 + Powers 0 + Defenses 6 = 75 / 75

Build Comments: Ethan Bennett has one of the better character arcs in The Batman. He starts out as a cop with Ellen Yin as his partner and they are assigned to track and take down the Batman. He is also Bruce Wayne’s best friend, an old high school and college bud, setting up a bit of a tension right off the bat, which I thought was a nice touch.

Then during that season he is captured by The Joker and turned into Clayface by some Joker Putty, which I thought was a bit odd. He goes crazy for a while as Clayface, then is captured and rehabilitated. He ends up fighting another Clayface, I think Basil Karlo, before he is cured. Eventually, he returns to GCPD, although we don't see him much in the series, if at all, after that. But according to the future episode Artifacts, he eventually becomes commissioner. Not a bad deal overall. He spent some time in the joint, and had a rough go for a while, but hey, it all worked out for him in the end, and who wouldn't want to be Clayface at least for a day? Come on, morphing into Brad Pitt for a little while would rock!

Secret Origins The Story so Far/Characterization/Friends and Foes: Ethan is one of the most respected members of the Gotham City Police Department, and one of Bruce Wayne's best friends. Whereas his partner, Detective Ellen Yin, sees things in black and white, Ethan sees the grey in almost everything, and is more willing to allow the Batman to co-exist with the Gotham P.D. In fact, he often finds himself wondering if this caped vigilante he is pursuing is actually helping the city.

ADVANTAGES: Benefit (4) (Wealth, Status, Resources 4 – CEO of Wayne Enterprises), Equipment (5)

POWERS:
NONE

EQUIPMENT:
(25 pts)
Headquarters: (25 pts)
Wayne Towers: Size - L, Tough - 12, Features - Communications, Computer, Fire Prevention System, Garage, Gym, Hangar, Laboratory, Library, Living Space, Personnel, Power System, Security System 3 [DC35], Workshop; 24 pts

OFFENSE:
Initiative +1
Close Attack +2 [Unarmed +1]
Ranged Attack +1

DEFENSES:
Dodge +2 [DC12] Parry +2 [DC12]
Toughness +1, Fortitude +3, Will +5

COMPLICATIONS:
Relationships: He loves and is protective of his wife, 2 daughters and son. He is also close to Bruce Wayne.
Responsibility: As the CEO of Wayne Enterprises, he has several responsibilities.

Abilities 32 + Skills 17 (34 ranks) + Advantages 9 + Powers 0 + Defenses 5 = 63 / 63

Build Comments: Lucius Fox as been a staple of the Bat-verse for many years now. I think his best incarnation, though, was Morgan Freeman’s take on him in the Nolan Batman movies. I kind of mashed the canon and that version in this build, where he is one of the best CEO’s in the world, but also has strong tech skills. I stopped short of giving him the Inventor Advantage that would be appropriate for the Freeman version, but that’s only because he has his hands full keeping the business thriving for Bruce.

Secret Origins: Lucius Fox graduated magna cum laude from the Morton School of Business, then after graduating he went over seas for more extensive training. Soon after graduating he put his powers and skills into turning Atwater Air from near-bankruptcy to overnight success with a whole range of stock options.

The Story so Far: Ever since his success, Lucius has been sought after by many large corporations to handle there business and stocks. But Lucius has found himself a new permanent job handling the day-to-day operations at Wayne Enterprises. Lucius was able to use his skill to revive W.E. more than once in cases of bankruptcy or a corporate meltdown, which is precisely why he is so sought after.

Characterization/Friends and Foes: Lucius and his wife, Tanya, have three children, Lucas “Luke”, Tam and Tiffany Fox. He tries to be the best father he can with his myriad duties. He is also close to Bruce Wayne and Richard Grayson.

See, for me, whenever I thought of "childhood Batman", The Batman was always the show that came to mind. Because that's the Batman show I grew up with, not Timm's Batman: TAS. So a lot of my favorite "Batman" memories kinda originated from watching The Batman. It kinda shocks me that people didn't like it, because even as I re-watch it, I notice that yeah, it's different and takes liberties with the Batman mythology, but that's what makes it fun. It's a different take on what we already know. Because if they were just retelling the same exact stories, what's the point?

Ares once said that he enjoyed The Batman more than Batman: The Animated Series. I found myself unable to take his opinions on anything seriously from that point onward :).

I can deal with "changing the characters", because all shows do that- look at B:TAS altering people like Mr. Freeze, going with an actor Clayface, and more. It's the more off-the-wall stuff that I take issue with.

I can add some to the list. I was going to hit Everywhere Man for sure.

My goal is to hit a ton of Bat-Verse builds over the next couple of weeks to make a really expansive Bat-Verse setting for myself and anyone that would like to use them. I'm going to take my favorite versions from any all of Bat related media; the comics, Batman The Animated Series, The Batman, The Dark Knight trilogy, Gotham, even possibly some takes from Batman '66 and the early 90's cinematic revival. I'm trying to avoid duplicates outside of NPC and PC versions, but with my multiverse, I could probably do some double takes on characters if I get the urge. I don't have a set list, but I'll go until I get bored, than come back with a redux in a few months. So if there' some requests, send them in.

LOL. It's Ares' fault I can't ever bring myself to make Captain Marvel and Superman the same PL. I have to do it just to get under his skin. :D

Your opinion is certainly the prevailing one, from what I have seen. Don't get me wrong, there are some things I really don't like, but overall, I thought it was a fun series. It certainly doesn't compare to the first few seasons of BTAS, but not really much does in my mind.

61 - Leslie Thompkins

Post by Thorpocalypse »

We've got lots more items from the truck from Gotham

I've said this many times, and no man's land does not change it. You keep working towards peace in this city, and I'll keep working towards peace in your heart. - Leslie Thompkins

LESLIE THOMPKINS

OPL: 4; DPL: 4; HP: 1

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 0, STAMINA 1, AGILITY 0, DEXTERITY 2, FIGHTING 0, INTELLECT 3, AWARENESS 3, PRESENCE 2

SKILLS: Deception (+2), Expertise [Physician] 7 (+10), Insight 5 (+8), Intimidation (+2), 4 (+7), Persuasion 5 (+7), Stealth (+0), Treatment 9 +12)

ADVANTAGES: Equipment (2)

POWERS:
NONE

EQUIPMENT:
(10 pts)
Headquarters: (9 pts)
Thompkins Clinic: Size - M, Tough - 6, Features - Fire Prevention System, Infirmary, Laboratory, Library, Living Space, Personnel (Volunteers, Medical Staff), Power System, Secret, Security System; 9 pts

OFFENSE:
Initiative +0
Close Attack +0 [Unarmed +0]
Ranged Attack +2

DEFENSES:
Dodge +0 [DC10] Parry +0 [DC10]
Toughness +1, Fortitude +2, Will +5

COMPLICATIONS:
Relationships: She has become a confidant of Bruce Wayne and the Bat family in general as she often treats their injuries in secret. She and Alfred Pennyworth have had an on-and-off romantic relationship over the years.
Responsibility: Dr. Thompkins feels it is her responsibility to care for those in Gotham who do not have the means for mainstream care.

Abilities 22 + Skills 15 (30 ranks) + Advantages 2 + Powers 0 + Defenses 3 = 42 / 42

Build Comments: Leslie Thompkins has been an all of the Bat Family for a long time and I always liked her concept. UNTIL…

The whole “faked death of Stephanie Brown to teach Bruce a lesson” arc. That was…poorly handled. That was one good thing the New 52 did, at least, was getting rid of that in continuity. And I like Leslie as an older woman, even though Morena Baccarin is on my "Exceptions List".

Secret Origins The Story so Far/Characterization/Friends and Foes: Leslie was a close friend of Thomas Wayne. She took it upon herself to look after Wayne's son, Bruce, after the boy's parents were killed, often acting with the family butler, Alfred Pennyworth, as a parental figure and guardian, and some sources have her as a woman who comforted Bruce immediately after his parents' deaths. During that time, Leslie was concerned with Bruce's behavior as he grew increasingly antisocial. She was even more perturbed when she discovered that, in his adult years, Bruce spent his nights fighting the criminal elements of Gotham as the Batman.

Leslie disapproves of Bruce's vigilantism, and feels partly responsible for his transformation into Batman, fearing that somehow she failed him as a role model. Bruce has, though, admitted to feeling guilty for being unable to live up to her pacifist example. She also has been linked to Alfred romantically on more than one occasion.

Dr. Thompkins runs a clinic for criminals and drug addicts in Gotham City in addition to her normal free clinic work. While the majority of her patients were repeat offenders, she continues to do her job with great perseverance and determination. Her clinic is known for being the closest thing to a true neutral zone for all of Gotham’s criminals and vigilantes.
