Real Name: Jack Armstrong
Height: 6’2"
Weight: 227 lbs
Hair: Brown (White when using powers)
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Identity: The fact that Jack Armstrong is the hero Vega is a secret he closely guards.

Relationships: Vega is good friends with several of his teammates (Sundance, Arc & Blackstone), and is trying to date Blackstone.

Temper: Every once in a while Vega loses his cool and then somebody is in trouble.

Weakness: Vega is vulnerable to a substance known as Omnivex, if exposed to it, Vega’s Strength & Stamina drop to 2 and he loses all his powers.

Background: Jack Armstrong lead a rough life, being given up to the foster care system at a young age and bouncing around from family to family about every six months. Eventually Jack joined a street gang in an attempt to gain the family he had never had where he ended up being in charge of running the gang's protection racket, which led him to the encounter with an old store owner who wouldn't knuckle under the pressure to pay off. Finally, Jack led his guys to roust the old man's store, it was a day he would never forget. As the crew entered the store and began to trash it the old man simply shook his head and said "Well, it looks like you boys want to do this the hard way. I tried to be nice." Then suddenly he jumped over the counter and into the middle of the crew and began to beat them up and throw them out of his store.

All until he got to Jack, the old man simple offered him a hand up and asked him why he was with the gang. When Jack told him that the gang was his family the old man told him "No they aren't. They’re only using you." The old man then offered Jack a meal and chance to talk about what made a family after tossing the rest of the crew out of his store, and by the end of that meal it was decided that Jack would move in with the old man in the apartment he had above the store.

Unfortunately, Jack's old gang wouldn't let him out that easy; after months of trying to bring Jack back into the gang and making an example out of the old man, they firebombed the store to simply get rid of both Jack and the old man. Jack was saved by a pair of beams and was able to find the old man who had been badly injured in the explosion. He held Jack's hand and plainly told the young man that his time was done and that it was now Jack's turn to "do the right thing." Suddenly Jack felt light-headed and burning with a fever which nearly caused him to pass out, but then it was over just as suddenly and the old man was dead.

Jack was so mad about what had happened to the only person that had ever shown him any real compassion to him that he went straight to the gang's main hangout and confronted the leader and about twenty of his old crew. Jack simple told them to disband the gang and go on with their lives... or else. When the head of the gang was done laughing he asked what the "or else" would be? Jack simply said "Well, I guess it’s gonna be the hard way then.", then proceeded to attack the leader. However, the rest of the gang didn't allow him the chance to finish the fight as they jumped in; amid all the punches and kicks Jack felt lightheaded and feverish again then it passed just as suddenly as it had before and suddenly he couldn't feel the gang members attacks anymore. Then he became aware of the gang members yelling that they'd hurt themselves hitting and kicking him, and Jack realized that the old man had somehow given him powers so Jack wasted no time in using them against his old gang.

During that fight Jack destroyed the gang's house and once he had dug his way out he found the first Blackstone waiting on him. Jack told the older him if he wanted a fight he'd give him one, to which Blackstone told Jack that there was a place for him to go so he could learn to control the powers he had gained so he could use them to help others like the old man had done for him.

Jack has since been a member of the Alliance as the hero Vega, fighting numerous villains and making friends during his adventures.

Real Name: Alexis Reynolds
Height: 5’3"
Weight: 119 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Enemies: Mendron the Black Mage, Tetra & Azmuth, the Alchemist to name a few.

Identity: The fact that Alexis Reynolds is the heroine Blackstone is a secret she keeps.

Relationships: Blackstone is friends with several of her teammates (Arc, Echon, Sundance, Sentry, & Vega), and is trying to date Vega.

Responsibility: For several generations Blackstone's family has worked to maintain the balance between the mundane world and the supernatural, she is this generations bearer of that job.

Background: Alexis Reynolds had known from an early age that he family was different from most other people. She knew that other families were made of of mothers and fathers, not uncles raising their niece. She also knew that other families didn't live in a house that was known to have been built during the late 1800's and have a history of "supernatural occurrences", or that other families didn't have a manservant that was named Christian.

However, Alexis didn't realize just how different her family was until she was 13; after Christian had taken away the remains of the birthday cake Uncle Jacob told her that it was time for her final birthday present and that she should follow him. At first Alexis was busy imagining what her present would be when she realized that Jacob had led her into the library and was searching one of the bookcases for a certain book. Before Alexis could say anything about not wating a boring book for her birthday, Jacob had found what he was looking for and pulled on the upper edge of the book and suddenly the entire section of the bookcase swung out to reveal a hidden corridor.

What was waiting for Alexis at the end of that corridor was her legacy Jacob told her, then he told the teen about how for the last few hundred years their family had been responsible for maintaining the balance between the mundane world and the supernatural. That to perform these duties every generation of their family had become trained in the matters arcane and used an artifact known as the Obsidian Sapphire; that contained certain energies that made the family's obligation easier to perform, and that now was the time for her to begin her training. From that point on Alexis was taught as much as she was able to retain, and within a few years she was allowed to perform minor rituals on her own as well as help Jacob in his workshop.

Then Jacob encountered a threat that he was unable to defeat on his own, which prompted him to teamed up with the Aurelius, another mage who worked to protect society from mystical threats. It was during that adventure that Alexis was deemed ready to help as well and she accompanied the two mystics in their efforts to stop a corrupt mage known as Mendron the Black Mage. Fortunately the three of them were able to stop evil mage’s latest plot despite his having gathered allies of his own, who were collectively known as the Crimson Coven.

Over the next couple of years Alexis continued to apprentice to Jacob, working with him both at home as well as "in the field" which allowed her to gain a respectable amount of experience in arcane matters. Then Mendron returned with a new plot that resulted in Jacob’s death due to injuries he sustained while fighting Mendron, though the dark mage was defeated once again, but even Alexis was badly injured – Mendron had managed to shatter the Obsidian Sapphire, and while Jacob caught the worst of the resulting explosion Alexis had been caught in the resulting outward spray of hundreds of thousands of silvers of the gemstone. Thankfully the Aurelius had joined the duo and was able to use healing magic to stabilize Alexis, though he did so only after Jacob told him to focus his efforts on her.

Once she’d recovered over a month later Alexis returned home to discovered that she was still supposed to continue on with the family legacy and she was able to do so for awhile despite not having the Obsidian Sapphire. Then the enchantress known as Tetra had made an attempt to steal several of the mystical tomes that where held in Jacob’s old house, during that robbery effort Christian was nearly killed. During the course of this encounter Alexis learned that because her body had been riddled with hundreds of shards of the shattered Obsidian Sapphire that she could now naturally channel the power of the stone. Using her regained powers she was able to keep Tetra and her demon servant, Azmuth, form getting what they’d come for. This incident also made Alexis realize that operating out of Jacob’s house was no longer an option as clearly a number of those who she’d be fighting against were aware of its location. So with the help of the Aurelius, Alexis created the Shadowspire, a mystically constructed building that is concealed in such a way that only those who know its location can actually find it. Sure that she was well protected, Alexis has continued the work of her family for a number of years now.

Alexis has continued to act as a protector of humanity and had a few adventures in doing so, sometimes alone and other times with allies of the moment. That is until she was approached by the Alliance with an offer of membership as they wanted a member who understood mystical matters and between a recommendation from the Aurelius and her close connection to Jacob they considered her to be a good fit with the group. Since joining Alexis has used her shadow powers and mystical knowledge to help the Alliance in several adventures, even going as far as to offer the Shadowspire to them as a base of operations.

Real Name: Emma Longabaugh
Height: 5’5"
Weight: Unknown
Hair: Blonde
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Identity: Sundance keeps her identity and the fact she has mental powers a secret to protect her family and friends.

Motivation ~Responsibility: Sundance feels that she must use her powers to help others.

Power Loss: Because her mental powers require a degree of focus, any kind of disorientation (such as extremely sensory effects, or drugs used on her) may prevent Sundance from using her powers for a while.

Quirk ~Impressionable: Sundance may pick up personality traits and attitudes from people she has interacted with using her telepathic powers.

Relationships: Sundance is good friends with several of her teammates (Vega, Blackstone, Arc, Echon, Makeshift).

Background: Emma Longabaugh (who was named by a social worker who was a fan of the old west that knew the day Emma was abandoned at a church on was the day that Harry Longabaugh, an outlaw who was better known as the Sundance Kid, was born) was an orphan who never knew the stability that most children did as she bounced from foster home to foster home. While she couldn't understand why none of her foster families wanted to keep her, but when her psychic powers began manifesting she formed a theory that her telepathic powers might have been the root cause, as her foster families always complained of headaches after being around her for extended periods of time. None the less, Emma remained an upbeat and cheerful child growing up and managed to find a permanent home once she gained control over her abilities (practicing with them in secret), even as they grew to include telekinetic abilities.

One reason Emma kept her powers hidden was because of how Transhumans (people with super powers) were viewed by the general public - as a menace. At some point in her teenage years Emma decided that she would use her powers to become a counter point to that example and further refined her control over her powers. Now attending NYU, studying psychology, Emma began moonlighting as the psychic hero Sundance (something of a joke off of her name) and was active mostly around the college where she was known as a caring, motivated hero. So much so that the Alliance took note of her efforts and offered her a place on their team, an offer that she accepted and has worked very hard to improve relations between Transhumans and humanity.

Real Name: Kayleigh Owens
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 122 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Motivation ~Ego: Makeshift is very proud of her intellect, and can be a bit….condescending to anyone she is dealing with.

Motivation ~Thrills: Makeshift loves the challenges she faces as a hero.

Not So Secret Identity: It's public knowledge that Makeshift is Kayleigh Owens.

Background: Kayleigh Owen was born to a family that struggled to stay in the lower middle class of society, it wasn't that they were lazy or not motivated but both of Kayleigh's parents hadn't graduated from high school and were unable to keep a steady job. Kayleigh meanwhile showed an early aptitude for machines; creating functioning contraptions from scavenged parts from mundane household items. Thus when Kayleigh first attended school she was tested and was declared a genius as her I.Q. was off the charts. Suddenly there was a flood of offers from several private schools offering scholarships to Kayleigh and bribes to her parents to influence their choice. Eventually her parents choose the school that provided a "grant" that allowed their students family to move near the school (and in this case that was a side of town that the Owens family would have never managed their entire lives) as well as a very generous housing fund that was to allow them to take care of the other household needs of the family.

Kayleigh then spent much of her young life studying in various prestigious schools as her intellectual interests changed and her graduate level increased. When Kayleigh was eighteen she graduated from college with degrees in chemistry, physics, mathematics, computers, and biology. That night Kayleigh was offered a job by Noxxor Industries, as they recognized her level of genius and wanted it working for them. The yearly pay they offered was obscene enough that allowed Kayleigh to outright buy herself a new home in California, far away from her freeloading family.

For years Kayleigh produced dozens of technological equipment for Noxxor, earning herself a small fortune thanks to the incentive bonuses she was paid, but unaware of how Noxxor applied many of them. Her world was shattered when she was sent to a military base in a third world country to help work out the last bugs of a energy system she had designed. While there over the course of three days Kayleigh saw that several of her inventions were being used by the military, and when she questioned the soldiers about how the equipment performed in the field she was thrilled to be offered a chance to observe them in use. Thinking about how she could improve her designs once she could see the daily stress the items were subjected to, but Kayleigh was horrified to discover that her inventions were being used as weapons and that those weapons were simply being sold to the highest bidder. Kayleigh has never spoken about the things she saw during that trip, but she did decide that her work for Noxxor was over.

Once she returned to the United States Kayleigh simply disappeared from her life; her parents had died a few years before of natural causes, so she had nobody else in her life to worry about while she severed all ties to the corrupt Noxxor. Two years later Kayleigh publically debuted several inventions she had developed during her time away from Noxxor. At first Noxxor took Kayleigh to court claiming that all those items were theirs as she must have created them using their recourses, another year later the judge decided that Kayleigh had created the devices in dispute independently using her own resources and that Noxxor had no claim on any of them.

Soon Kayleigh was spending more time trying to sell her inventions to various buyers than creating new items. Becoming slightly depressed she sunk into a rut, going from meeting to meeting like a drone. One night while on a business dinner Kayleigh and a grup of buyers were held up at gun point in a daring mass robbery of the restaurant and its patrons, with some quick thinking and a little modification Kayleigh was able to use the working model of the invention she had been showing the clients to stop the criminals and save everyone present. The resulting media coverage of the event increased her profits by leaps and bounds, but Kayleigh could've cared less, she had been inspired that night. She had discovered what she needed to do to make her life better - she would create technologies that could be used to help stop crime.

Over the following three weeks Kayleigh worked out a deal with Odyssey Technologies, a small tech firm in Capital City, that let her work for them as a "freelance employee" which would allow her to pursue projects at her lesuire while she was free to pursue her new endeavor. At the end of three months Kayleigh had created the first Tech Pack, and while it wasn't anywhere as advanced as the one she uses today it was able to get her started as a hero, calling herself Makeshift she began to fight crime - from bank robberies to purse snatchers, no crime was too small for her. Within weeks newspapers were calling for interviews as to what she was doing as Kayleigh took no effort to hide her dual identity. Eventually Makeshift began to attract the kind of attention of criminals who were a cut or two above the norm, criminals like M.A.U.L.E.R and Dr. Zero who challenged her in ways that normal criminals couldn't even dream of.

Kayleigh enjoyed almost every moment of it, it was like no other kind of live testing she had ever done.

At a later point after being established as a legalized law officer in her hometown, Kayleigh was approached by the original Blackstone to join the group he was a part of. Interested in meeting the others that the older man told her about, she ended up becoming part of the group's next adventure and she discovered a group of people that could offer her what no one else could - a group of friends that could understand the responsibilities she faced as a hero.

Since then Kayleigh has expanded the equipment of the Alliance as well as reworking the Tech Pack into the super advanced machine that it is today (now a nanite infusion matrix that could restructure and repurpose itself based on the user’s mental commands), taking advantage of the things she has learned as part of the Alliance.

Real Name: Dylan Odom
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 217 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Hazel

Complications:
Guilt: Imbolic feels that he should have done something more to prevent the loss of the other members of the archeological expedition.

Motivation ~Responsibility of Power: Imbolic feels that he should use his powers to make a difference in the lives of others.

Power Loss: Imbolic's powers are of a magical nature; in an area of no magic he loses access to all his powers. Binding his hands will leave him unable to properly direct his powers.

Temper: Perhaps due to his spirit now being bonded to the essence of the Prime Elements, Imbolic works to keep his temper held in check.

Background: There are few who have dealt with the magic of the Elemental Planes, though many of them can not say they've done so without paying some serious price for the experience; Dylan Odom considers himself part of that small group. The leader of an archeological dig that discovered a temple in South America which was covered in marking that indicated that it was dedicated to the worship of nature, which Dylan knew was an oddity given the region they were in, and he was sure that they'd found something remarkable. However, instead of treasures all the expedition members found were a collection of deadly traps that quickly thinned out their number as they traveled deeper inside the structure until only Dylan and few others of the crew remained when they finally arrived at the heart of the temple.

There they found four large (fist sized) gemstones set on a hand worked stone table while across from them on the opposite wall were more glyphs that Dylan translated to learned that this room was a shrine to what was called the "Prime Elements". When one of the other survivors touched one of the gemstones all four of them came alive with their respective energies that poured out into the survivors, filling them with the power of elements. When the ordeal was over only Dylan was left alive, as his fellow survivors had been reduced to piles of ash and the gems had disappeared. Dylan managed to make his way out of the temple to find the man known as the Aurelius, Earth's Master Mage, waiting for him as he'd sensed the power of the Prime Elements becoming active in this realm and had come to halt their potential threat before anyone could be possibly hurt. But after seeing the tattered remains of Dylan's clothes and sensing the energy now housed in his body the elder man realized he was too late.

The Aurelius explained to Dylan that he now was traveling a different path in life and needed to be instructed on the dangers it presented to him, then offered him a place in his own home until Dylan could control the energies that now dwelt inside his body. Seeing no other choice Dylan accepted the and followed the Master Mage through the portal he summoned to take them home. Over the course of several years Dylan learned how to control the elemental forces that were now part of him under the watchful eye of the Aurelius until the mage was satisfied Dylan wasn't a threat to any around him. Presently Dylan has become a skilled mystic in his own right and is confident enough in his own abilities that he chose to take his leave of the Aurelius' home as Dylan saw his path taking him somewhere else in the outside its walls and he was eager to find where it would take him.

Happy birthday, T-Man!!

For those unaware, Tattooed Man was one of the recurring posters in the early days of my thread, back when it was mostly just random stuff from me, and the occasional nice word from Thorp, Kreuzritter and Libra's never-ending topping of threads :). I hadn't realized it at the time, so I wanted to thank him publicly and privately for supporting my work. It makes me realize just HOW LONG some of us oldies have been doing this.

Your thread is always one I check on daily, be it because I'm interested in the theme of builds (like the current SF series) or checking out the mechanics of the builds if the theme doesn't personally interest me. Because I like seeing how other's treat unique power sets, and you always seem to pull off some interesting mechanics.

Also, thanks to everyone for the well wishes. It was celebrated the right way - with Batman shaped brownies!

And yes I am that old.

Real Name: Daniel "Danny" Blake
Height: 6'
Weight: 170 lbs
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Motivation ~Doing Good: Arc believes in doing the right thing no matter what.

Power Loss: Water based attacks can short out Arc's powers.

Weakness: Arc takes an extra degree of damage against water based attacks.

Background: Daniel "Danny" Blake is the oldest of two children in his family, his sister Cindy was the problem child while he did the best he could in school as well as sports and was a fairly popular person around school. All these things made his parents even more proud of him and further alienated his sister to the point that she began to act out even more until finally their parents decided to send Cindy to a boot camp program to straighten her out. Unfortunately, though Cindy ended up being made into an even worse problematic child as she adapted to the environment her parents sent her too. Because of her rebellious behavior the Blake parents felt as if they had no other choice but to kick Cindy out of their house hoping that she would see how the real world was and come back understanding why there were rules to follow.

Danny simply went on; while he missed his sister, he understood why his parents had turned her out of the house, thus he focused on getting better grades so he could earn a degree in electrical engineering. Following his graduation a later that year, Danny got a job at the city dam working on the third shift maintaining the electrical generators with a couple of other people and after only a year of work Danny had just managed to move into his own place and was dating, very happy with the way his life was going.

Agents of COBRA attacked the dam in an attempt to blow it up unless their demands were met; Danny tried to stop them on his own but was shot, the recoil sending him backwards into one of the generators and it seemed that he was electrocuted on the spot. The COBRA terrorists went on with their plans, unaware that what had happened was that Danny’s dormant powers manifested to save him from being electrocuted. Danny made use of his knowledge of electrical phenomenon to maximize the use of his new-found powers to stop COBRA and save his co-workers. Once he got home Danny told his girlfriend, Jenny, about what happened and showed her the powers he gained, then telling her that he wanted to use his powers to help other people. She agreed to help him come up with a costume and a week later Arc made his first masked appearance by stopping a car filled with escaping bank robbers who had the police hot on their tail.

For several months Arc stopped all types of crime from attempted kidnappings, to car-jackings and muggings. Danny developed a wise-cracking style of banter he used as Arc to help distract his opponents, though it was to cover up his nervousness in those first few months as well. In general, the public liked the work that Arc did to fight crime, aside from a few people with public forums who decided he was a nothing more than a Johnny-come-lately who would fade away like disco and they used all their influence in the public media to push their thoughts of Arc; such as his being a public menace as soon super villains began to show in the city because they wanted to challenge Arc for one reason or another. Overall though, Arc was well-liked by most of the city and only a small percentage gave him grief.

Soon Arc ran into his first metahuman criminal, Electra, and she was a frustrating foe as she possessed electrical powers that were equal to his. During one of their major fights Arc discovered that Electra was his sister but managed to defeat her which resulted in her going to jail finally. Following that experience he disappeared from the public eye, wanting to sort out his own personal life but during that time he was approached by members of the Alliance who looking to recruit new members. The first Blackstone played up the notion that Arc would be amongst peers, others who could understand the hard choices required by their efforts and wouldn't judge him for it. It was also during this time that Arc started dating a young woman named Jenny that quickly became serious and brought happiness to his life.

Electra's response was to end that happiness; to that end she escaped prison and killed Jenny, leaving a note pinned to the body taking credit for her crime. This put Arc after Electra, determined to make her pay and during that fight Arc was forced to stop Electra from killing a bus full of children by overloading her electrical energy that caused her to fall into a coma (though she later recovered and returned to crime). Arc fell into a deep depression over the guilt he felt as the one "responsible" for the death of Jenny and his sister being in a coma and it was only thanks his friends in the Alliance that Arc slowly returned to his personality of old, but he still has periods of time where he become depressed and wonders if he shouldn't hang up his mask for good.

Real Name: David Masters
Height: 6’2"
Weight: 310 lbs
Hair: None
Eye Color: White

Complications:
Family Ties: Echon takes most of the stipend he’s given by the Alliance and privately donates it to his family. The only other person who knows this is Makeshift.

Machine Man: Echon is an artificially made being and thusly is vulnerable to effects that would target artificial intelligences and other advanced computer systems.

Man In The Machine: Echon worries that he’ll succumb to cyberpsychosis despite the steps he’s taken to prevent it.

Motivation ~Serve & Protect: No matter how depressed he is about his condition, Echon ultimately swore an oath to uphold the law and protect the community.

Reputation: Some people just won’t let go of the fact that Echon started off as a minion of Ultramind.

Background: Originally Echon was named David Masters that worked for the government, as a special investigator; he looked into all of the reports of alien spaceships and kidnappings as well as supernatural sightings around the U.S. As such he knew that some things simply couldn't be explained in a rational manner, but most were simple mistakes or an elaborate ruse. Unfortunately, he was proven wrong on his theories of alien life when he became a victim of Ultramind. Recently defeated by both the Vanguard and the Alliance the artificial alien analyzed his last few encounters with humanity and came to the realization that it was due to the human’s erratic thought process as to why they defeated him time and again. Thus, he then decided that if he were to incorporate human thought patterns into a set of synthetic beings he would be able to create a force that could deal with the illogical foes he faced and finally crush them.

To begin this process Ultramind captured several humans and subjected them to a battery of tests to determine which would be best suited to become synthetic beings, those who failed were disposed of and new subjects were gathered. This is what led Inspector Masters to Ultramind; a rash of disappearances in a localized area in such a short time. Unfortunately for him Ultramind’s drones added him to the collection of new subjects to be tested and it was determined that he would be perfect for the conversion process; over the next few weeks Ultramind started assembling the bodies of his synthetic squad as well as starting the process of digitizing the minds of his selected specimen. By the end of six weeks Ultramind had finished the last of constructed bodies, and began to transfer the first of the minds that had been reconditioned. Looking upon the group for the first time Ultramind decided that the name of this attack force would be Heavy Mettle.

Shortly after their completion Heavy Mettle started to gather the parts needed for the machine Ultramind was building that would allow him to take over the world by reorganizing an organic brain like a computer. During that time, Heavy Mettle clashed with the Alliance several times, and they were able to match them in combat and get away with their prizes easily. It took over two weeks of various robberies for Heavy Mettle to get all of the required parts as well as the energy source needed, and it was during that time that Inspector Masters, or as he was now called, Echon, began to recall bits of his previous life and first began to subconsciously fight off Ultramind's mental conditioning.

It wasn't until the next confrontation between Heavy Mettle and the Alliance that Echon heard the voices of his wife and daughter, who were in the crowd of innocent people who were present at that fight, that he was able to completely break free of Ultramind's influence. Rebelling openly against his former master, Echon was instrumental in helping the Alliance defeat his former group, Heavy Mettle, as well as stopping Ultramind's mental enslavement device.

Echon asked the Alliance if they could help him regain his original body. Unfortunately, upon examination of Ultramind's base Makeshift found that once he had created the digital recordings of the subject's mental patterns Ultramind had destroyed their bodies. Forced to deal with the fact that at best he is only a copy of himself, Echon decided that it would be too cruel to let his family know of his existence as it is, and allowed them to believe he had been killed by Ultramind.

Echon was offered membership in the Alliance to help him deal with his status as an synthetic being and maintain ties to humanity by using the abilities of his new body to protect people in need. He accepted because he felt that he had nowhere else to go and he needed to make amends for the damages caused while he was a thrall of Ultramind. Echon has since been able to adjust better to his physical state and enjoys friendships with several members of the Alliance as well as other personal interests outside of the group. Echon also secretly keeps tabs on his family still and takes steps to ensure that they have the best life possible with the aid of Makeshift’s company.
