Ghostworks

Post by Tattooedman »

Ghostworks:

Ghostworks began as an American think-tank that was devoted to developing various technologies ideas for the betterment of mankind, although it operated under a different name back then as most of their number were defected Nazi scientists brought in by the American Government despite the fact that several of them were war criminals, they were allowed to continue their research in the interests of ‘national security’ and were supposedly under the watchful eye of government agents.

The discovery of a large section of a crashed ancient alien star ship is was what caused the organization's change from a government research project to the rogue agency it has become now as their focus shifted to developing the means of repelling possible alien invaders that might be hiding amongst humanity and using Alphas as their primary weapon. Generals and politicians, terrified by the possibility of alien invasion, devoted large amounts of black budget funding to Ghostworks to develop a viable defense against extra-terrestrial attack. They have been allowed to conduct experiments on criminals as well as the homeless and minorities as part of their efforts to produce superhuman weapons for the United States. In secret, Ghostworks has conducted tests on isolated communities that often resulted in cancer and other adverse side effects, and is responsible for many of the very physically mutated Alphas in the population today. The modern incarnation of Ghostworks goal is creating superhuman soldiers that can be used to handle various threats to the United States.

Ghostworks has no centralized facilities, however they do have numerous research laboratories spread throughout the United States and have begun outsourcing many of their most gruesome experiments abroad, in countries where regulations are far looser. Ghostworks is resistant to oversight of any kind and have their own private mercenary force of its own people to avoid scrutiny from the United States military. Otherwise Ghostworks has vanished into the cracks, insinuated so deep in the monolithic bureaucracy of the US Government that it would be impossible to completely remove them.

Those in charge of Ghostworks tend to talk a lot about the Alpha menace but the truth is that they themselves are a menace in their own right – they kidnap young Alphas to experiment upon to better understand how their empowerments are triggered, and subject Alphas to brainwashing procedures that turn them into loyal agents. Those in charge also makes it a point to determine the viability of various processes that have shown to be effective in triggering the emergence of Alpha abilities, for use in other, future experiments. There have even be a few times that someone in charge decided to allow giant monsters to escape from custody and go on rampages to see how effective it would be as a biological weapon of mass destruction.

Real Name: Owen McClure
Height: 6’ (7’5” in Heavy Assault Mode)
Weight: 180 lbs
Hair: Brown
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Addition: Condition Red is a drug addict because of his the injuries he suffered.

Power Loss: Condition Red loses access to his Weapon Array while using Heavy Assault Mode.

Some Scars Never Heal: Condition Red always wears some kind of mask, to cover up the facial scars.

Trauma: If Condition Red is hit in the face during combat he will suffer a flashback to his initial injury, and be Defenseless and Immobilized until it is done.

Background: Owen McClure joined the Army right out of high school, graduating from boot camp as one of the best shooters in his platoon and was sent straightaway to the Middle East. His steadiness under pressure and near fearless nature help him greatly as a as a disciplined door buster; the member of the team that kicks in the door for the entry team.

That is until on one raid the entry team’s target had been somehow warned that they were coming for him and he was ready when Owen kicked down the door - blasting him point-blank in the face with a shotgun. When he later wakes Owen learns that he has been returned to the United States due to his injuries where he struggles to deal with his scarred face and slurred speech as he slowly becomes addicted to pain killers. In the months that follow Owen becomes withdrawn into depression over his appearance but before the Veteran’s Hospital can attempt any skin graft surgeries to repair the damages done, he leaves the institution.

He next appears working for Noxxor Industries as the operator of the “Condition Red” armor, a project the company is developing to sell the American Military for their soldiers to use in the field. However, Owen steals the prototype before Noxxor can make their pitch, using the armor to become a super villain who instead of performing robberies works for anyone willing to pay him the fees he demands.

And just because I like extra pics here's what Heavy Assault Mode looks like.

Real Name: Jack Cooper
Height: 7’
Weight: 407 lbs
Hair: None
Eye Color: Yellow
Unusual Features: Brown/tan colored skin, spikes on both sides of his head

Complications:
Do I Know You?: Manticore only has vague memories of his life since gaining his powers, despite the fact he has worked with numerous super villains he couldn't pick them out of a lineup if he had to.

Phobia: Cats. No, seriously.

Prejudice: Manticore is an obvious superhuman and cannot hide that fact.

Reputation: Manticore is known for being overly destructive.

Temper: Manticore has trouble controlling himself once he gets mad.

Weakness: Manticore doesn't do well against psionic attacks.

Background: Jack Cooper lived a normal, if almost boring, life growing up. He never was the best student, although he passed all his classes, was moderately liked by his peers. Jack was painfully average in virtually every way. Upon graduation from high school he found a job at Oddessy Technologies as a janitor. He worked there for several years without problem, maintaining his average life. That all changed one night when he interrupted a robbery and was beaten within an inch of his life and left unconscious in one of the labs. What the robberies didn't realize was that during the beat down of Jack that some of the machinery in the lab had been turned on and due to the damage done it flooded the area with radiation.

Jack spent hours being bathed in the exotic energy, but instead of dying his body mutated - into something large and very, very angry. Awakening and in pain from his transformation, Jack proceeded to go on a rampage that leveled the lab as he made his way outside where his destructive actions drew the attention of the local heroes who struggled to stop him. Finally, they managed to defeat Jack and put him in New Alcatraz.

Unfortunately, Jack's mind has been broken by his transformation and he is a child-like, super strong brute that many super villains often use as a pawn in their master plans, meaning that he was often times freed from imprisonment to be employed as a tool for others. A trend that has continued now for almost a decade.

Real Name: Robert “Bobby” Barnsal (unknown to the general public)
Height: 9’8”
Weight: Unknown
Hair: White
Eye Color: Yellow
Unusual Features: Spikes on head and shoulders, fanged teeth, red skin

Complications:
Inhuman: Devastator‘s monstrous appearance makes it difficult for him to blend in.

Prejudice: Criminal Alpha.

Reputation ~Collateral Damage: Devastator is known for the large amounts of collateral damage he usually causes.

Reputation ~Monstrous Pawn: More times than not, Devastator has been set loose by a mastermind super villain to serve as a part of their latest plot.

Background: Bobby Barnsal was a small-time street thug, loser who spent his life in and out of prison. It was while there serving his latest prison sentence that Bobby volunteered to be part of a medical experiment being done on prison inmates, who got time taken off of their sentences in return.

In Bobby’s case the experiment was an utter catastrophe - the medical technician injected him with the wrong amount of the wrong serum, then panicked when he realized his mistake. Bobby’s response was to panic as well, which led to the guards present to have to restrain him. However, during the struggle Bobby ended up thrown into a shelf that was full of different pharmaceuticals, which covered him in a hodgepodge concoction that caught fire and killed Bobby. To cover up the accident the guards concocted a story where Bobby had tried to escape and that was what led to his demise, and Bobby’s body was placed in the prison’s morgue and forgotten about.

Over the following couple of days Bobby’s body underwent an incredible metamorphosis – growing in size as well as becoming incredibly strong and resilient to injury. Finally waking up, the transformed Bobby went on a rampage to regain his freedom, being named Devastator by the press in the process, he destroyed a large portion of the prison he had died and been reborn in and it took the full roster of the Vanguard at the time to halt his rampage, although Devastator disappeared in the chaos that followed that fight.

Now, years later, Devastator has become a well-known member of the super criminal scene, often being tricked or manipulated by supervillains into serving them. Along the way he has been labeled as a brutal menace that has caused dozens of deaths as well as billions of dollars in damages. The truth is that Devastator is a juggernaut full of childish rage - his anger his nearly constant, as he is easily confused, and he can only take as much frustration as a four-year-old child in all honesty. Further proof of Devastator’s limited mental capacity is his not using pronouns, always referring to people by a nickname he has given them and to himself in the third person (for example – “Devastator smash puny Dark Lady!” [referring to Blackstone of the Alliance]) and as such he has little understanding of tactics aside from the direct fighting he has demonstrated in the past or anything requiring subtlety (although there have been a few times that he has managed to make an escape in the confusion of the aftermath of one of his rampages).

Real Name: Jarin Mondegos
Height: 6’8”
Weight: Unknown
Hair: None
Eye Color: Yellow
Unusual Features: No visible mouth, spines growing from his back and shoulders, horns on his head

Complications:
Ego: Neural is prone to bragging, lecturing, and chronically underestimating opponents, even if they have defeated him in the past.

Honor: If Neural swears not to attack somebody or some planet, he will hold true to his word. But BOY will he ever try to sneak his way out of it.

Motivation ~Power: Neural wants to rule the Earth realm.

Relationship: Neural loves his daughter, Jasura.

Enemy: The Aurelius has countered Neural's plans countless times.

Background: In the world of Hyboria, Jarin Mondegos spent the majority of his youth learning the ways of magic alongside his cousin Catalan. However, when Catalan left to travel the world Jarin stayed in the family keep continuing his studies thinking that he would be chosen to become the next Aurelius.

Thus when Catalan was chosen instead of Jarin, he was outraged. How could Catalan be the new Aurelius when Jarin knew more about magic than his cousin? He must of bribed the family elders with treasure he found somewhere, that had to be the reason. Jarin was so convinced that he packed his belongings and left the family home to prove that he was the better wizard. At some point during his journeys Jarin learned of the being known as Ahriman, an ancestor who had become the servant of the Old Ones and had been locked away in a sub-dimensional prison by the Magi.

The imprisoned mage shared many mystical secrets with Jarin, secretly hoping to trick the young wizard into freeing Ahriman so he could resume his efforts to take over the world. Thankfully Jarin, who was then calling himself Neural, was stopped by a group of adventurers that had been recruited by Catalan before Ahriman could be released. During that conflict Neural faced off against Catalan in a magical duel that saw Neural defeated and trapped in another dimension he meant to banish Catalan to.

In that strange land, that he learned was named Jumala, Neural found his magical power worked differently and he spent several years remastering his magic, after which he built a powerbase for himself and rose to prominence and power until he was the ruler of Jumala. After a number of years reigning over Jumala, Neural began to want to figure out a way to return to his home dimension and conquer it. Unfortunately for Neural, his banishment spell had done nothing but fortify itself in the time since his arrival in Jumala and would require him to have assistance from a sorcerer in the Earth Dimension to break it.

Eventually Neural found the help he needed in the form of Duke Metzküll, an apprentice of the Aurelius who had been angered by his teacher’s appointment of one of his peers as the heir apparent to the title and responsibilities. Fueled by his frustration and anger Metzküll provided Neural the means of breaking the dimensional barriers that had held him prisoner for centuries and raiding the Aurelius’ sanctum. While Neural was able to send his minions there, with him leading them, and faced off against his descendant and killed the Aurelius he was defeated by Solomon Hunter and returned to Jumala.

In the years since Neural has continued to try and break the dimensional restraints of his prison so he can expand his empire to Earth.

Real Name: Janos Yulian Lidesci
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 215 lbs
Hair: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Arrogant: Dr. Gemini has a massive ego and is incredibly proud. He often refers to himself in the Third Person.

Dr. Gemini Is More Than A Name: Dr. Gemini is a fusion of two personalities; both seek to rule the world and work together towards that goal.

Honor: Dr. Gemini has a strong sense of personal honor; he considers it demeaning to break a promise once his word is given. However, he will happily lie to potential allies and turn on them when the time is ripe, should he not consider them his peers (and there are very few people who meet his/their standard).

Motivation ~Power & Responsibility: Dr. Gemini seeks to bring the entire world under his control in order to make it a better place.

Responsibility: Dr. Gemini takes his position as monarch of Ruritania very seriously. He seeks to ensure the safety and comfort of those who are under his rule.

Background: Janos Yulian Lidesci was born to a Romani family of servants in service to a Baron in the isolated country of Ruritania (it is surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains). Janos’ mother died a few years later under mysterious circumstances and he was raised by his father, who was the leader of the Baron’s servants and a renowned medicine man that tended to the Baron and his family's health. He recognized that Janos possessed an intelligence well beyond his years but forced the boy to conceal his intellectual gifts in the face of “his betters”. However, he secretly encouraged his son to learn all that he could as the elder Lidesci wanted a better life for his son.

At one point the Baron's wife grew incurably ill (from cancer) and the senior Lidesci was called upon to heal her. When she succumbed to illness, the Baron labeled Lidesci a murderer and called for his death. However, the elder Lidesci had already escaped the castle with Janos, having realized the night before that the woman would die despite his efforts. During their trek through the wilderness the elder Lidesci dies from exposure on the mountainside, cradling the boy in a final embrace and giving him some of his own garments to keep him warm. Janos survived and sought out his long-lost relatives; folks spoken of only in hushed tones by his parents when they thought their son could not hear. He found his aunt living deep in the countryside who took the boy in.

Janos grew into a brilliant young man with a natural aptitude for technology that he used to create devices which he used to keep the Baron's men at bay and protect the Roma people; eventually attracting the attention of Empire State University, who sent a representative with an offer for Janos to study in the United States, and Janos choose to leave his homeland to improve his skills so he would be able to better help his people upon his return. While at Empire State University Janos created a device that would allow one to travel vast distances in only a few seconds, but when he activated it the device exploded; destroying most of the building Janos had been working in and injuring many students and faculty. For his reckless experimentation, Janos was expelled from Stanford and deported from the United States.

What Janos never revealed to anyone was that during his experiment a portal to another world opened and he saw a double of himself trying to perform a similar type of experiment, although the double’s work had been done using mystical knowledge instead of scientific. The mirrored experiments caused some kind of feedback in one another, causing the explosion. What’s more, the two Janos were merged together by the rampaging magical and technological energies their experiments had generated and they spent the majority of their recovery mentally talking with one another, figuring out what had happened to them.

Returning to Ruritania, the two Janos’ returned to the task of helping their people, but found themselves facing a new foe - Vampires. Soon Janos became their most hated enemy, so much so that they killed his aunt in an effort to break the young man’s spirit. All they ended up doing was further strengthening Janos resolve. During that time Janos discovered the Baron was in league with the Vampire as they were slowly gaining control of Ruritania by transforming the members of the country’s wealthy families into their kind and gaining influence over the countries politicians.

Within a year Janos built a revolution against the Baron that would expose the Vampire’s plot and free the people of Ruritania from the inhuman fiends. While a few of the Vampire’s leaders managed to escape, their scheme was foiled, and Janos became the savior of the country; a position he used to become the new ruler. During the revolution Janos had been named Dr. Gemini by the Vampire due to his usage of technology and magic (as both personalities contributed equally to their cause), he chose to now use that name as a sign of his commitment to care for the people of Ruritania and began enacting laws to “ensure the safety of Ruritanians against the supernatural scourge.” Today, Ruritania is considered one of the most advanced countries in Europe – if not the world – thanks to the innovations of its monarch. Dr. Gemini sees his rule of Ruritania as a blueprint to how the world, as a whole, should be governed.

Now, years later, he believes that he has the supernatural threat to his homeland sufficiently contained enough that he has set his sights on expanding his region of influence and control so that he can one day lead the world to the greatness he envisions for it.

Real Name: Carmen Diaz
Height: 5’2”
Weight: 110 lbs
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Prejudice: Alpha.

Quirk: Carnivora tends to react to many social situations in an animal-like way.

Relationships: Carnivora has “bad blood” in her family; her father is the villainous Chupacabra and her siblings are Rato, Escarcho, Dulce Conejita, Lagartija, and Arácnido.

Secret: Carnivora’s family are all super villains, leaving her the black sheep.

Secret Identity: Carnivore keeps her real name and identity a secret, and keeping her heroic and mundane life separate sometimes causes problems for her.

Background: Carmen Diaz grew up in Capital City, one of the many children of the super villain Chupacabra. From a young age she watched as all her older siblings manifested their own Alpha abilities and then be manipulated by their father to use their powers to support his criminal agenda. It was something that angered her as she grew up and once she manifested her own powers she refused her father’s efforts to use her as he had done with her siblings.

In fact, their disagreements became so bad that Chupacabra threw his youngest daughter out of the family home, disowning her when she was sixteen years old. Carmen spent the next couple of years scraping out a living until she turned eighteen then got public assistance to get her GED, an apartment and a job. Despite the fact she’d built a semi-stable life for herself, Carmen knew her family were responsible for many of the crimes going on in Capital City and felt that she needed to make up for their criminal efforts.

Soon a new hero, called Carnivora, appeared on the streets, often times fighting against the criminal efforts of Los Salvajes, as Chupacabra’s organization was known, but also dealt with other crimes as she did not want to only focus on her family’s misdeeds. After a few years Carnivora had gained the attention of the Vanguard and was offered membership in that organization. Seeing how she could do more by working with the group, she accepted the offer of membership (although she still regularly patrols Capital City) but knows that if she needs help that the Vanguard will be there.

These are great, but I have to wonder when you're gonna be done adding villains to the pile. Earth-75 looks like it has more than enough right now for Marvel or DC comics.

What? I've only got 292 villainous characters posted. That's not that bad....is it?

One thing that I've not done a good job of of making clear is that these characters span a time period of over 30 years. So it's safe to say that at least half, if not a little more, of those characters aren't active in the modern day.

That said I've been working on completing the builds for some of the heroes over the years, so it's a work in progress (especially with my character building ADD, which makes me jump around from build to build as I get random ideas while working on things).

It's less than the number of villainous characters spread across all three volumes of Champions Villains combined.

Not much less, though. ;)

So that means with the other builds I have in various stages of completeness that I'll soon surpass them..... I'm good with that. :D

Real Name: Jeff Lewis
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 163 lbs
Hair: Blonde

Complications:
Motivation ~Greed : Soundwave wants to use his powers to make money. To him that means using them to commit crimes.

Prejudice: Alpha criminal.

Power Loss: Soundwave needs a medium that transmits sound for his powers to work.

Reputation: Jobber.

Background: Jeff Lewis' empowerment only brought thoughts of how to use his Alpha abilities for his own profit. Unfortunately for him, he has not gotten rich yet despite his best efforts.

Considered by most his peers in the criminal underworld to be a jobber (a low-end supervillain), Jeff fights to be recognized as a legitimate super threat. Somehow, he has managed to keep himself out of New Alcatraz (mostly because he runs away the moment he loses the advantage in a fight and law enforcement underestimating him the few times they've arrested him, allowing him to escape custody).

None the less, Jeff continues to chase his dream of making "that one big score".

Real Name: Brain Snaith
Height: 6’
Weight: 187 lbs
Hair: White
Eye Color: Brown (glows green when using powers)

Complications:
Enemy: The Aurelius.

Motivation ~Knowing The Unknown: Möbius seeks to unlock as many secrets of the magical world as possible, no matter what the cost to the world.

Background: Brain Snaith was a British theoretical astronomer who collected things related to August Ferdinand Möbius, a noted mathematician and theoretical astronomer who has several mathematical concepts named after him. In a journal he’d gotten Snaith found hidden messages discussing a discovery Möbius had made of a dimension, which he'd cleverly named the Möbius Continuum, where time and space worked differently than they did on Earth and how Möbius had learned to tap into it.

Driven to learn more, Snaith spent large amounts of his personal fortune following the clues Möbius had left hidden across Europe until Snaith located the Möbius Gem – a large, emerald gemstone that accessed the energies of the dimension Möbius named after himself. Upon touching the Gem, Snaith was flooded with information about the Möbius Continuum and how the Gem could access energy from there to be used in numerous ways on Earth.

Now inspired and driven to gather other “lost” items, Snaith, who now uses the name Möbius, began using the abilities the Möbius Gem bestowed upon him to aid him on his personal quest. Fortunately, the current Aurelius has been up to the task of dealing with Snaith’s plots.

Real Name: Judas Iscariot
Aliases: Too many to list, currently uses Cornelius Van Horn
Height: 6'3"
Weight: Unknown
Hair: Black
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Blood Is Life: Dracula must regularly consume blood, otherwise he will fall into a coma.

Compulsion: Dracula must be invited into any dwelling he does not own.

Curse Of Betrayal: Dracula is repulsed by holy symbols, cannot abide the touch of silver and burns in sunlight.

Motivation ~Power: Dracula seeks to take over the world.

The Blade & The Blaze: Only being beheaded and his remains cremated will prevent Dracula from returning to his unlife for a short period of time. Dracula cannot truly die until he has been given absolution.

The Bride Of Darkness: Dracula is always on the lookout for a woman to share his unlife with (typically she will be stunningly attractive) and will slowly turn her into a vampire as he proceeds to woo her romantically.

Background: After Abraham Van Helsing defeated him in 1897, Dracula was held prisoner by his old foe until late February of the year 2010. In the weeks that followed Dracula spent his time becoming reacquainted with the modern age and began to rebuild his power base despite the efforts of Van Helsing (who had secretly been keeping himself alive and had been passing himself off as his own great grandson) and his assistants to return Dracula to his prison even though he had journeyed to New Orleans. Even though Dracula was able to avenge himself upon Van Helsing (killing him) for his defeat over a century prior, the man's successor and estranged daughter were able to deal the lord of shadows a defeat.

However, that was not the end for Dracula. His remains were brought to a local morgue where his "corpse" was examined, and the doctors present realized what they were dealing with and sought to use the vampires desiccated - but still alive - body to discover the secret of immortality.

Needless to say, things did not work out as they had planned and Dracula converted the majority of the scientists into his loyal followers, using them to operate the resources the master vampire would establish. And now, with so many of his old enemies fallen, and so many advantages within his grasp, Dracula has begun a new war. He has traveled to the city of Arcadia, centralizing all the resources he has gathered over the decade since his return. Perhaps it will be enough this time.
