Background: The past of the super villain known as Argent isn’t known, but it is obvious that he has spent time in the military given his expertise of combat although which branch Argent was a member of isn’t clear (in all truth it might not have even been any of the branches of the American military). None the less, Argent has been more of a mercenary motivated villain as he mostly has worked for mastermind villains rather than working for himself.

It is that capacity that Argent has faced off against members of both the Vanguard and the Alliance several times as he’s smart enough to realize when things aren’t going his, or his employer’s, way and will make his escape to be able to commit crimes another day.

Background: A graduate of the Vanguard Academy, Curtis Axel had limited options for a job given his barely passing grades even though he was the son of former member Junction. Determined to find a way to support himself upon his graduation, Curtis threw himself wholeheartedly into his application to the Vanguard. Luckily the amount of weight Curtis could teleport was impressive enough to earn him membership into the Vanguard to act as team transport since he had never developed combat applications of his powers.

It was an arrangement that suited Curtis just fine and now he goes between the Vanguard's two headquarters, transporting the members wherever they need to go, vastly increasing the Vanguard's response time to various threats.

Background: Medical student Evan McAllister had decided to do a few semesters of independent study in Europe. Once there, McAllister’s research into medical history led him to the works of 18th century physician Franz Mesmer that concerned animal magnetism, also known as mesmerism, which Mesmer believed to be an invisible natural force possessed by all living things. Mesmer also believed that this invisible force could have physical effects on the human body, and he tried persistently, but without success, to achieve scientific recognition of his ideas. Although his work would lead to the development of hypnosis, mesmerism had long been discredited, but McAllister’s desire to escape the tediousness of his thesis writing prompted him to experiment with Mesmer’s techniques ... and find them extremely effective. Though it should be noted that he was actually an unmanifested psychic who managed to tap into his telepathic abilities thanks to his study of Mesmer’s works.

Intoxicated by his newfound capabilities, McAllister thirsted for money and fame. Using his uncanny powers of illusion, he invented the identity of “The Great Vendredi”, a showman capable of seemingly impossible feats and thrills, delivered with Vegas spectacle and glamour. Soon he achieved the status and wealth he desired but found it very unfulfilling as it had come so easily to him thanks to his powers. McAllister realized he desired more out of life and had the power to obtain it by whatever means he wanted, as he could conceal his actions by rewriting the memories of his victims and concealing his presence. Calling himself the Delusionist, McAllister now steals what he cannot buy, leaving behind mysteries without any witnesses.

Background: Olivia Myers couldn’t have cared less that her mother worked as a curator for the Dayton Art Institute. That did little to improve her social standings, aside from provide her with the funding needed to buy the latest fashion and personal gadgets that were considered to be the current thing teens needed to be worried about having. So, when she stopped by to ask for another “loan” from her mother, Olivia didn’t think anything about touching the golden scarab that was sitting on her desk waiting to be cleaned. In that moment the spirit of Egyptian high priest, and wizard Kharis, who had been imprisoned centuries ago in the artifact following his failed attempt to seize the throne, invaded the young girl’s body and quickly dominated her spirit so that he was the one in control.

Kharis quickly deduced it had been a very long time since he’d last walked the Earth and quickly took his leave so he could find a suitable place to probe the mind of his host to learn what he needed to know about the strange time he now found himself living in. Olivia’s mother simply thought her daughter was storming off because she had declined to give her another “loan” and didn’t give her behavior a second thought. Kharis quickly discovered that Olivia knew very little information that he deemed useful and that he would have to familiarize himself with this new world firsthand.

Carefully playing the role of Olivia Myers, Kharis spent the next three years learning everything he/she could about the modern world and improving Olivia’s life – focusing her college career on archeology, specializing on Egyptian Dynasties, and was able to use the school’s resources to travel to Africa so that he/she could reclaim several of Kharis’ personal artifacts from his/her first life. Now “properly” armed, Kharis has begun to take his/her first steps into the world of super villainy as he/she seeks to build the empire he/she deserves.

Background: While on a field trip to Odyssey Technologies, teenager Dwayne Miller found himself covered in a strange chemical liquid thanks to the horse play of his classmates. When his body went into convulsions as a result he was rushed to the local hospital, fortunately the doctors there were able to stabilize Dwayne's condition and determine the chemical bath had triggered his manifesting his Alpha abilities; Dwayne's body had transformed into a kind organic rubber. What followed over the next few days were a battery of tests that found the transformation couldn't be reversed, which led to Dwayne to meeting the recruiter for Vanguard Academy.

It wasn't a bad place, he even made a few friends while there, and over the next few years Dwayne learned how to use his powers in various ways. Upon graduation Dwayne moved back home to Capital City where he got a job as an EMT to support himself while he spends his off hours using his powers to fight crime, both mundane and super.

Background: Cheryl Dillon learned at a young age that a pretty face could be used for a variety of ways, combined with the fact she is related to the retired hero the Radiant meant she got away with several things other children of his religious faction were unable to. Upon reaching adulthood she left the group's compound then used her wiles to support herself. Cheryl felt no remorse for the things she did, in her mind she was just taking care of herself the best way she was able to. However, the truth of the matter was that she enjoyed manipulating others for her own ends.

In addition to her skill at manipulating people is the fact that she also inherited a version of her grandfather's powers, though her most interesting ability is that she is able to convert her body into coherent light, so when she has found herself having to deal with superheroes she is able to properly protect herself. Interestingly enough, Cheryl has never revealed her connection to founding member of the Vanguard, the Radiant, but one can be sure that she will use that information at some point if it would grant her some kind of boon or profit.

Despite being outnumbered Finn managed to defeat his opponents on his own, but he was seriously injured and barely managed to get himself medical attention. Unfortunately, the physical and psychological injuries he suffered forced him to take early retirement.

During his recovery Finn tried meditation to deal with the PTSD he suffered from only to unintentionally awaken his psionic abilities. In that moment Finn’s beliefs took a radical slant and he became obsessed with the idea of chaos and furthering its effect in the world. Taking the name Bálor due to the similarities his powers had to the being of Fomorian lore, Finn has since used his powers to commit numerous crimes in the United Kingdoms.

Background: Vivian Logan lived in South-East England with her young family whose their house was broken into by a gang of thugs, robbing her family. Her husband, Richard, fought back, hurting one of the thugs, but was killed for his efforts. A few years later she and her young daughter found themselves on the front line of a battle between the King's Watch and the Black Knights. The Knight rendered Auric unconscious and Vivian selflessly put herself between the fallen hero and her attacker, but the villain's attack nearly killed her. That triggered the manifestation of Vivian's Alpha powers and her scream of pain transformed into a massive shockwave that knocked the Scarlet Knight unconscious.

Unfortunately, her sonic shockwave also caused massive damage to the nearby building behind the criminal which partially collapsed on bystanders, including her young daughter. That mental trauma of losing her child, combined with the fact she was the one responsible, broke Vivian mentally. When she'd recovered she was a totally different person; where she was once a caring and compassionate woman she was now a grim, dour person who wanted to lash out at the world she blamed for triggering her powers and causing the loss of her daughter.

Calling herself Black Banshee and dressing in a goth-like manner complete with makeup to make herself appear more intimidating, Vivian began lashing out at the world she now hated. It didn’t take her very long to build a reputation for being a ruthless villain while proving that she is skilled in using her powers.

Background: Declan Helmsley was the local hero in his Southern small home town and with good reason - he had been the star quarterback for the high school football team. Not surprisingly Declan caught the attention of college recruiters and got himself a full ride on a football athletic scholarship. After graduating from high school, Declan married his high-school sweetheart Christine, and the two moved to New York City to start their new life together where Christine took a part time job as a nanny while Declan attended college. Declan worked his hardest to prove himself on the field, but never one of the best students Declan's grades began to drop as he focused on football. His problem became worse as he didn’t realize he was putting his scholarship at risk until he was called to the coaches' office and was told that he was about to lose his scholarship.

Unwilling to spoil his wife's hopes and dreams, Declan didn't mention that his football career was nearly washed up before it had a chance of getting started. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts Declan lost his scholarship before the end of the school year and in an attempt to make his and Christine's life plan happen, he took odd jobs at various labs telling his bride he was working as an intern. However, Declan struggled with work as he never was satisfied with his jobs, and often found himself either quitting in frustration or getting fired.

Finding work at the storage warehouse for KaneKorp, Declan managed to earn a decent wage. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for Christine, as she soon left him for her employer, who she had apparently been having an affair for some time. Down on his luck and angry, Declan drowned his troubles at a local bar and only found more when he showed up drunk for work and getting into a fight with his boss when caught. Unemployed again, the former athlete took out his anger on the nearest object – a crate in the warehouse. As Declan's bad luck held, the crate contained an experimental wormhole generator that had been scrapped due to it’s being heavily damaged during testing; the impact of Declan’s fist activated the generator and it immediately exploded, showering Declan with trans-dimensional particles.

Awaking in a KaneKorp lab, Declan was told what had happened to him. But before the scientists could go into much detail, Declan's anger got the best of him which resulted in his subconsciously opening a spatial rift that sucked in almost everything that wasn't bolted down to the floor. Amazed by what they'd seen, the scientists worked to help Declan adjust to his new reality. After a month they’d built him a suit that helped him control his powers and Declan was ready to leave. However, the events that led to his empowerment meant that the police wanted to talk to him, and Declan was positive that he’d end up in jail. Deciding to make his own luck, Declan left the care of KaneKorp in the middle of the night and disappeared from his life.

A few months later Declan returned, having somehow made more alterations and adjustments to his suit, attacking the warehouse that he’d been empowered. The upgrades to his suit costume granted Declan much finer control over his abilities, and he made quick work of the men working there and stealing a large number of items that had been stored there before members of the Foundation arrived on the scene. Catching the heroes off guard, Declan attacked the heroes, almost sucking several of them into his other-dimensional storage space. While they regrouped Declan made his escape then proceeded to live off the profits of selling the technology he’d stolen.

It didn’t take long for word of Declan’s fight against the Foundation to make its way around the criminal underworld and draw the attention of Mentis, who was immediately interested in adding the young criminal to his collection of cohorts the Institute. For a few months Declan worked with the group but decided that he didn’t care for how Mentis ran the group and took his leave, an action that surprised Mentis as he thought he’d “convinced” (i.e. mentally influenced) Declan to stay with the Institute.

Now operating on his own, Declan, as the super villain Vault, has been making a name for himself in both Canada and the United States.

However, when she applied for membership in the Vanguard, she put forth the idea of her working as a field coordinator for both teams, using her ability to manipulate machinery in a full-time support role in addition to working as an online presence for the organization. Something that had not been considered by those in charge of the Vanguard and resulted in Motherboard being made a member.

Easy Now: Because Quarry’s body is made of inorganic objects he sometimes damages things he handles and will affect some skill checks.

Form Vulnerability: Quarry is vulnerable to extreme heat (turning into glass), powerful air currents (they will spread his particles far too wide), and water (he will become a sluggish and unable to use many attacks).

Single-Minded: Quarry’s mind sometimes becomes hyper focused on one person or item.


Background: The history of super villain known as Quarry before he made his criminal debut isn’t known, he simply appeared one day attacking the people enjoying themselves at Mount Rushmore. While the Vanguard responded to his attack, they were not able to capture him – a trend that happened most of the time when Quarry appeared in public.

What is known about Quarry is that he is an impressively powerful Alpha who seems to be more interested in lashing out at the world and has little interest in the usual things other super villains are typically motivated by. That said, he has worked for mastermind villains in the past, though his reasons are unknown as Quarry does not speak (and the reason for that isn’t known).

The one thing that makes Quarry somewhat easier to handle is the fact that he seems to be somewhat mentally deficient (either due to his empowerment or other factors from before he had powers) that make him a bit easier to manipulate during the course of a fight. If Quarry were to possess normal mental facilities then he would be nearly impossible to stop.

Motivation ~Hedonism & Power:Cocytus uses her powers to make her life easy and carefree. She is always trying to gain more power so that she can defeat her brother, and maybe someday her own father.

The Devil’s Own: Cocytus’ eyes glow when she uses her Hellfire Array, which reveals her infernal nature to those who are aware of such things.

Power Loss: If her Infernal Trident is taken from her Cocytus’ power (level) drops considerably (see below for stats for her without the Infernal Trident).


Background: Cocytus grew up a beautiful and cunning young woman, using her natural gifts to get what she wanted from others at an early age. By the time she had turned sixteen she was already the “queen” of her high school and when her infernal powers manifested, she was delighted but kept them a secret from everyone.

Wanting to stay youthful forever, Cocytus attempted to contact other dimensional beings to make a magical pact. While she failed to get the response she wanted, Cocytus was visited by the leaders of a cult that worshipped the Elder Evils who revealed to her the identity of her father – Dagon, one of the Elder Evils. Besides informing Cocytus of her birthright, they helped her in gaining the power she’d wanted - making her an agent of the Elder Evils on Earth giving her an infernal trident as a badge of authority that increased her power even more.

Now supported by a hidden faction of loyal worshippers who follow her every command and whim, Cocytus engages in acts that further the Elder Evils’ goal of regaining their freedom and properly ruling the Earth dimension.
