But yeah. Dark Souls, a game that markets itself on it's difficulty and unforgiving nature, tends to have a whole level filled with the spoopy bastards where many infinitely respawn, spring traps, pop up out of nowhere to stab you in the back, spawn in giant packs to stun lock gank you from full to 0hp in seconds, or some combination of the above. Then there's the damn Spiked Wheel skeletons which chase you down, run you over, and then back up to run you over again.
Not to mention the boss fights are some of the most frustrating complex and difficult fights in any video game ever made

-Sparrow is a dark-skinned woman with the least-intimidating villain name in history (I mean... you couldn't think of ANY other bird name that sounded cool?). She engages in a purely physical relationship with Cardinal, denying any romance when her teammates are curious about her brusque demeanor with their commander- "We rut- nothing more" she says. Night Thrasher lures her into a trap, using an override to activate her wings, which pin her against a wall- she threatens his life, but he scores a huge punch that knocks her out. In the next issue, she joins the Air Force in Africa, but is captured by bad guys and forced to act as their operative, being renamed "Fast". Sparrow never reappears- Kymaera (Namorita) is similarly captured and controlled (renamed "Hard" by Undertow), but rescued by Thrash.

-Sparrow, unlike the rest of her team, apparently has superhuman strength, being able to tangle with Nova in the New Warriors debut of the team. She also carried a bunch of weapons. This is not apparent in the Night Thrasher issue, where her wings pin her to a wall and she appears totally stuck, allowing Thrasher to easily one-hit K.O. her.

-Tanager has Sonic Powers, unlike the others, though it doesn't really do anything except fry some circuits that Night Thrasher was trying to use to override the controls of the Air Force's armors. She dismisses Taylor as a "chocolate Richie Rich", which he dismisses as "garbage" before knocking her out with a series of blows to the face. Instead, he has to combine Tanager's gear with Oriole's to do the same thing. Tanager joins the Air Force in a humanitarian mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina, but is killed by members of a paramilitary group called the Soldiers of Misfortune.

-Oriole is the newest member of Air Force, joining after Killer Shrike quit. He debuts in Night Thrasher, being easily sneak-attacked by an unarmored Night Thrasher, who disables him by smacking the power unit on the back of his armor ("It's the same place it is on mine", Thrash notes, pointing out the vulnerability). His gear is combined with Tanager's to create an override on the armor for all of the Air Force. In the subsequent issue, Oriole and Tanager are killed by the paramilitary Soldiers of Misfortune. In this New Warriors issue, Oriole is notably miscolored to look like Killer Shrike instead.

-Oriole is slightly more professional than his teammates (Cardinal spends most of the time talking about the rush of killing people or whatever), but is still a total jobber.

Gotta be a great group of jobbers if Killer Shrike is too embarrassed to hang with them.

The Injustice Society

THE INJUSTICE SOCIETY:
-The Injustice Society of the World appeared in a 1947 issue of All Star Comics, written by Sheldon Mayer & drawn by Bob Kanigher. Here, the JSA's various individual bad guys teamed up- then an unheard-of occurrence for comic book super-villains. They were formed by The Wizard, who hoped to take over America- they take over government facilities across the nation, splitting up as they do so- a split JSA is captured and nearly put to death in a mock trial, but "The Thinker" reveals himself as a disguised Green Lantern, who had in fact defeated HIS adversary- the JSA thus defeats their rivals. The Society reforms in the late '40s, attempting "patriotic crimes" by stealing national monuments, and getting the American people to vote for "best crime"- the one with the most votes becoming team leader. Here, the Black Canary saves the JSA, and is inducted as a full-fledged member.

-The JSA's reappearance in the 1960s leads to various IS members showing up in the "Crime Champions", but the Society fully reforms in the 1980s as "Injustice Unlimited". The Wizard grabs various members, new and old, sending them against Infinity, Inc. & the JSA. They are largely ineffective.

-1999 sees the phenomenal new JSA title appear, and with them comes a new Injustice Society, formed by a new villain, Johnny Sorrow. This smaller squad is actually handily defeated, but Sorrow gets the device he came for, and later becomes a MUCH more dangerous threat. So the I.S. becomes kind of a recurring menace, if only as Sorrow's personal "Goon Squad"- they have little credibility, but HE does. Sorrow summons the King of Tears while Black Adam joins the JSA and The Rival is killed, but the JSA punches it into the Speed Force. The JSA All-Stars mini-series sees The Wizard call himself "Legacy" and form a new team, and they pop up a few more times.

Man, even when looking for obscure losers on purpose I didn’t come across these guys. Also, they appear to be all named after birds. (Even Cardinal and Killer Shrike fit the theme naming despite being pre-existing characters, so that’s neat at least.)
Yeah, I was delighted to find these yutzes. I just kind of found these issues and bought them on a whim (50 cents each or something), as early '90s Marvel produces the weirdest stuff sometimes, and they didn't disappoint. They're on Marvunapp, but I'll be damned if even I can't be thorough enough to traverse every page of that website- giving pages to so many one-off "guy with regular name who shows up for half an issue" types kind of bogs it down.

The Injustice Society! Mirror Image Vilain Teams are always fun, and man, DC has so many goofy villains from the Gold and Silver ages. Also, I see The Rival on that list. Wikipedia says he's the first Reverse-Flash, but was he ever actually called that? Speaking of Reverse-Flash/Zoom, that's another guy (..or three..I can never not get all the different Reverse-Flashes and Zooms mixed up) that I don't think you've statted yet.

As far as I know Edward Clariss was always called "the Rival", but the concept he embodied was the base for Eobard Thwane a.k.a. the Reverse-Flash and Hunter Zolomon a.k.a. Professor Zoom.

-William Asmodeus Zard (haha, oh, Golden Age) grew up into a criminal lifestyle, but eventually came to the conclusion that some training in the Far East was necessary in order to become a specialized kingpin of crime. So naturally he spent years learning MAGICAL POWERS, all to make him a better heist man. He attempted to prove that the Justice Society were criminals, but failed and was arrested. He later formed the Injustice Society with the JSA's other biggest villains, but was undone repeatedly. He was responsible for "removing Superman" for a couple of years, as he mind-wiped the Golden Age Clark Kent of his "Superman" identity when he was trying to kill the hero. Later, he punished Black Canary for defeating his Society once, by giving her daughter the sonic cry that would later help her be a superhero as the SECOND Canary.

-Usually appearing as the leader of the Injustice Society or the Crime Champions, the Wizard would become a recurring threat. He even formed Injustice Unlimited in modern times, fighting the JSA and Infinity, Inc.! He was seemingly killed by the second Hourman, but reappeared having trained in the Land of Fairies, but is again beaten by his own ego. In JSA All-Stars (a miniseries), he disguises himself as the villain "Legacy", taunting the JSA to assess their own personal failings and regrets- a trick meant to break them, but instead redoubles their will. He is "killed" by the Spectre as a result of this. His subsequent appearances are as a minor guy.

-Initially more of an Illusionist/Hypnotist, The Wizard has at times showcased further magical powers, but this is his more typical form. He's more of a planner and a schemer than a real fighter, leading with his head instead of raw might.

Funny how his powerset and costume baaically make him an evil version of Mandrake. (Of course, while there's no shortage of Mandrake ripoff magicians, from what I've read Mandrake was originally more based around hypnotising people into seeing his illusions rather than straight up magic.)

Enemy (Wildcat)- Paula later becomes a constant thorn in Ted Grant's side.

Total: Abilities: 58 / Skills: 44--22 / Advantages: 10 / Powers: 2 / Defenses: 12 (102)

-The Tigress began her run in comics as a big-game hunter known as The Huntress, a Wildcat foe that sought to add his head to her wall. She joins the Injustice Society, where she & Sportsmaster become an item- later on, Helena Wayne (daughter of Bruce) becomes the new Huntress, and Earth-One versions of both villains pop up. When the Crisis happens, Huntress & Sportsmaster just become Golden Age characters, and Paula is given a real name and a new identity- she is now the "Tigress" instead. In Young All-Stars (a Retcon book, that re-RE-establishes the Golden Age DC Universe, this time post-Crisis), she actually makes her debut as a SUPERHEROINE, joining the other kids. This change is possibly to explain away the stories featuring Helena Wayne. After being nearly-killed by Axis Amerika member Gudra, she returns with a new attitude, leading her to become the villainous Huntress- turns out, this is a retcon. 1980s comics establish her and the Sportsmaster as the parents of the new Tigress- Artemis Crook.

-In modern times, she & Sportsmaster had married and had a daughter named Artemis- she becomes a member of Injustice, Inc., and becomes Tigress of the new Injustice Society.

-The third Tigress is Artemis Crock, the daughter of the Golden Age Tigress/Huntress and The Sportsmaster- "She's got her father's swing, and her mother's bod", sez Ted "Wildcat" Grant. Initially called only "Artemis", she switched to her mother's codename after Wonder Woman gained an ally with by that name. She appeared a few times with Injustice Unlimited before disappearing until the modern era, where she and the new Icicle formed a romantic bond that seemed largely physical at first. Here, she seemed pretty minor (sort of just popping up alongside Shiv, and firing the crossbow bolt that nearly killed the Golden Age Green Lantern, as it was actually Blackbriar Thorn in shrunken form), but a JSA Classified issue features a sequence in which the new Injustice Society successfully grabs a magical key from JSA Headquarters, and she actually manages to knock Wildcat out in a prolonged fistfight. A backup story in JSA All-Stars then features her and Icicle on a "Dueling Couples" chase with Hourman & Liberty Belle, competing over some lost treasure. When a pregnant Tigress has her health endangered by their unborn child, Icicle is noticeably worried, and the heroes help save the day.

-Curiously, a version of the character appears as a HERO in the Young Justice cartoon series.

-Tigress II is a pretty standard-issue "Skill-Based Fighter" character, with the KO against Wildcat being her sole high water mark. Everything else just features her as a nuisance.

-A great "Gimmick Villain" concept that is so goofy that I can't believe it hasn't been used over and over again, The Sportsmaster uses sports-themed weaponry in his crimes. He fought both the Golden Age Green Lantern & Wildcat, having been a frustrated athlete who turned to crime. He joined the Injustice Society on some missions, but basically stops mattering quickly. He and the Tigress have a daughter revealed in 1980s comics- Artemis Crock. He was later broken out of prison by her, but eventually died- it's then shown that his body is being cloned by the Manhunters in place of Paul Kirk. A later Sportsmaster pops up in Suicide Squad, but the Zero Hour event turns the black man into a Caucasian (did Uncle Ruckus write this story or something?). Various others have popped up over the years, usually given very little explanation- it's just a solid "Background Gimmick Villain".

Something about sports-themed heroes and villains is just amazingly goofy to me, like SuperPro. (And of course, Casey Jones taught us that sports equipment can be a deadly weapon) And there was that ridiculous cartoon "Pro Stars" that had Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, and Bo Jackson as crime-fighting superheroes.
