Re: The Merge: Agents & Powers (OOC for chapter 2)
The Ministry could contact the DXDO or the Justice League directly and make contact possible through these channels.
Shinto, like many other religions, has had a resurgence since many smaller spirits and deities are now undeniably real. For Buddhism, though, little has changed on the outside. At its core, they still consider the material world an illusion no matter how strange it gets.
However, there are two things that are making an increased impact on Buddhism, one known and one much less known.
The known fact is that with the advent of the Merge, certain individuals close to enlightenment have shown siddhis, the supposed supernatural abilities that come with being close to attaining Nirvana - bilocation, flight, telepathy...however, as many forms of Buddhism hold to the fact that these abilities are still part of the material world and have no intrinsic value, there is only one individual who has used them for superhero work - Thundermind, a member of China's Great Ten superteam.
The other thing is only spoken of in hushed tones - Dark Enlightenment. During the Incursion, some buddhist priests and monks received a visitation from Buddha - but a version of him who had ascended to the Court of Azathoth, the true Nirvana in his native universe. Needless to say, it shattered their minds and they retreated but rumor has it that Void-Buddhism is growing stronger in the hidden corners of the world.
To know that, one would have to succeed at an Expertise(Religion) check against 16.
//The latter aspect, by the way, is canon in the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game universe. Buddha ascended to the Court of Azathoth and true enlightenment would be to accept the utter meaninglessness of all existence and strive to be as the Outer Gods.

Thanks!
Does Viv have her phone on speaker for the rest of us?

Ouch. I guess for every good there is an evil rule is in full effect in the Merge universe. In any case, it is very common to be both Shinto and Buddhist, in Japan there is a saying "We live as Shintoists, but die as Buddhists."

No. Why would she do that?Tony Jones wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 8:52 am Thanks!

Not that that prevents Lilly from listening along, given her powers.

Because it lets everyone else know what's going on without her having to repeat it afterwards? And lets people chip in with things if they want to?
But yes, of course Lilly is listening in anyway!

It's somewhat rude to put someone you do not know on a speaker phone when you first talk to them. "Hi person I don't know. You're on a speakerphone but please don't be guarded even though we've never met."

Hey folks, sorry for my sparse posting lately. Gotten kinda swamped by rl. I'll try and do better.
Re: The Merge: Agents & Powers (OOC for chapter 2)
Hey, no worries dude. RL can suck sometimes. We're just glad you're ok, even if it is relative.

Amy has a +8 in survival, she would probably know the difference between good mushrooms and the poisonous ones right? Along with the other edible plants she might see.

Re: The Merge: Agents & Powers (OOC for chapter 2)
Lilly could always ask the plants. Though would they know they were poisonous? Would poisonous ones be more hostile? I don't know!
Re: The Merge: Agents & Powers (OOC for chapter 2)
Or maybe more friendly. Sure, come and eat me! Especially this part, it's extra special tasty! Lol. I doubt any of them would care to be eaten in total, a fruit taken, no problem, as long as you toss the seeds far enough away from them.
Mushrooms and brambles are probably a bit hive-mindish, as they can be one organism or even parasitic, depending on where they're growing. Trees like Quaking Aspens are very hive mindish as they are literally one growing organism.
