B.A.D. (Bastions Against Destruction)- IC

Proxima Theta-

Proxima Theta was the home of a mosaic of burgeoning cultures. Some of these cultures were on the cusp of interstellar travel. Some were barely advanced beyond hunter-gatherer societies, but all had promise. All had promise until the weapon was engaged. Proxima Theta was the home of a mosaic of burgeoning cultures, until the magneto-sphere was destroyed, the atmosphere ignited and the oceans boiled away. The civilizations of Proxima Theta would be mourned by nobody. Not a surviving soul in the multiverse would care...or at least that's what it's obliterators believed.

They were wrong.
Before anyone responds with a character post, allow me to set the scene for each PC individually, since they all have disparate motivations and are drawn to this starting point by different paths.

Facet of Iam-

Facet had been on Levoneyt Proxima for weeks now. The insatiable desire to experience everything keeping Facet wallowing deep in this morass of backbreaking labor and hedonistic excess. Levoneyt Proxima orbited the outer rings of Proxima Theta as the workplace, home and den of iniquity for over 20,000 asteroid miners, their families and the businesses drawn to such an operation. Levoneyt Proxima was simultaneously the treasure chest of resources and the engine that despoiled Proxima Theta. It was a tough life and every day the inhabitants of Levoneyt Proxima thrived was a testament to their hardiness and determination. It seemed near impossible that the forces of creation and destruction could remain in balance forever, but the miners had been welcoming, albeit rowdy. The bright flash that engulfed Proxima Theta was almost predictable. The energy wave that surged outward, catching Levoneyt Proxima in its destructive fury almost anit-climactic. The massive mining outpost suffered critical damage and the radiation shields failed. 95% of the population died in a searing moment of radioactive heat. Facet saw the others scrabble to survive, fleeing in battered star craft or try to come to grips with the fact they were going to perish once emergency atmosphere depleted. Someone or something had murdered Proxima Theta and by extension, Levoneyt Proxima and the answer, as far as Facet knew was on the ruins of Proxima Theta.

Stargirl-

A reasonable person would just chalk it up to bad luck. She was in the wrong place at the right time. Somewhere in the independent systems outside the Stellar Khanate and Grue Hegemony, before the grave worlds of the Xenomorph infestation and beyond the immediate purview of the Star Knights or Blackguards. Far from the Tome Worlds of the star wizards and lairs of space dragons, she was in the backwaters of the galaxy where her past troubles shouldn't be able to easily reach. Here in the independent worlds sentients lived a hard scrabble, often desperate, dishonest life...but they were too concerned with their own survival to pay attention to a single being, no matter how unusual.

Her guard was down, that's all that could account for her being caught off guard like she was. The world whose atmosphere she was skimming, erupted in a brilliant dark slight. Fire that consumed heat and life even as radiation arced like cosmic lightning to shatter moons and space stations alike erupted from the world. She wasn't even certain what this place was called, only that she was caught in its death throes. The gravity flux slammed her to the ruined surface like a falling star. One thing she was sure of, this was no natural disaster. Was she the target and this world collateral damage or was it the reverse?

It was a question in need of an answer.

Kaiju-

The impact woke you with a shock. Crawling from the wreckage the world around you is in complete ruins. It isn't the world you know. The sky doesn't look right. Of course when that entity appeared before you...the Curator...you assumed something bad was going to happen. After its appearance all you remember is sleeping. Sleeping until some powerful force struck the vehicle you were in and brought it crashing to the surface of this world. This dead world. The atmosphere was rapidly bleeding away, but the radiation permeating everything was wholesome. Odd, but it returned your strength.

Looking around, you see the ruins of civilization. This can't be where the Curator meant to send you. It had mentioned a museum, this was a graveyard. Life had abruptly changed and presented you with a mystery.

Salvo-

What a coincidence. The capture pod that had led him here certainly wasn't the cause of this. The Curator's pods were well known to the Argents and they were simply to transport "collectibles" from wherever the Curator found them to his...its...worldship. While the Curator was hardly the overwhelming threat presented by Collapsar or the Starbreed, he was still a disruptive force and thus opposed by Tellax. The plan had been simple, follow the pod back to the worldship and free its inhabitant, plus any other sentients in the Curator's "museum". Everything was going well until the pod passed Proxima Theta...a backwater world of little interest to even the Star Khan.

Passing between the planet and the mining platforms in its outer rings suddenly an energy surge of the blackest sort erupted on the surface of the planet. It enveloped the world in so little time, he barely had time to begin analyzing it. The energy wave burst from the surface at near light speed, enveloping the pod he'd been following, then his visual sensors were momentarily overwhelmed. Black lightning crackled along his surface, sucking the power right out of him.

When he regained full functionality, the system around him was a disaster area. Something had happened on the surface of Proxima Theta that absolutely wrecked Proxima Theta, its asteroid rings and the mining stations therein. The pod was no longer visible, but the pod might be the most pressing problem.

Outsider-

Proxima Theta seemed an odd place for the enemy to be at work, but the trail led him here. Proxima Theta was a civilization such as Earth might have with the right resources. The planet was a patchwork of countries, not united, but still capable of space travel within their own system. Mining platforms owned by countries and guilds orbited the world, embedded within the belts of asteroids that orbited the planet's equator. Unlike his former homeworld, there were no heroes on Proxima Theta, no penchant for resistance. Thetans tended to ignore their government, except for handing over exactly as much in the way of tribute and taxes as would keep those governments mollified. The enemy would land here and after taking out the political and military powers, find no resistance from the masses. Still, he'd been exploring for less than a week when the planet was consumed by familiar energy.

Destruction for no purpose suited the lord of entropy, but there was none of the waging war or posturing the enemy and his chief lieutenant, Shadivan Steelgrave were famous for. Regardless, he'd ridden out the cataclysm, witnessing the death of a world with some promise. Had the enemy changed tactics from conquest to annihilation?

There was only one way to find out.
Okay...now player posts and PC reactions are needed.

For the past hour he had been steadily enjoying a drink and the incredible view of Proxima Theta with a few of the local females. Of the group he had been steadily coercing one into what would've been a very enthusiastic night for the both of them. The black liquid in his cup had interestingly fruity flavor to it in-spite of it's appearance, at least so far as his artificial tastebuds determined. While he may not have been capable of experience the sensation of inebriation like them, he was more then capable of making an educated guess as to how a human would react regarding the perceived alcoholic content. Acting was one of his strongest skills as a Humanoid Interface Model, one that his companions certainly enjoyed to witness as he played the part of a happy and flirtatious drunk.

It really had been going so well.

Yet now the female by his side was floating nearby with a large piece of thick glass through her temple, and the bar itself as a whole was littered with dead and dying. Suffice to say that the entire mood had been thoroughly ruined, and the liquid inside had been sucked out before a patron had plugged the breach with their body. What atmosphere was left inside this section was far to thin for the lifeforms to handle, leaving him to watch helplessly with an passionless face as they slowly gave in to suffocation. An awful way to go to be sure. Those on their homeworld had the luck of experiencing a near instantaneous death.

New an experience this may have been, it was by no means an enjoyable one.

An intact bottle of his last order floated close enough by that he took hold of it, uncorking and taking a swig of it directly. Such a mysteriously fruity flavor that he'd have to savor. It was never to exist again, now that the crop which produced the taste had just been rendered extinct. He recognized the sensation of his mind mentally pulling apart the drink's molecular composition, storing it away in a place that he himself as an Aspect couldn't access while Iam as a whole could for archival purposes. Perhaps the next time this body perished in some horribly gruesome manner, he could have a drink of a recreated variety before leaving the lunar factory that orbited his Higher Self.

Bottle drained and emptied as much as the facility now was, Facet lifted up from his seat and turned toward the blocked breach, hesitating only a split second to dislodge the corpse and allow himself to be sucked out as well. To see a world be killed in an instant put forth a sense of priority that he wasn't allowed to ignore. Such a weapon was evidently dangerous and apocalyptic to such a scale that it might even threaten his Higher Self's livelihood, it wasn't allowed to exist so long as there was a risk presented.

A smile slowly reformed upon his face as he started to skim what little remained of the planet's atmosphere, aiming for where he saw that explosion of light originate. "What new and interesting things await me in this coming adventure, one wonders?"
Am I dead? Am I alive? The answer may surprise you!

Stargirl

Azura lay still on the hard surface of an unknown planet, at least what was left of it, her healing energies washing over her bruised body. Azura lifted her head and surveyed the area. Nothing but death and destruction as far as the eye could see.

The day had begun much like the dozens of other before since leaving Earth. She had merely been passing through this system, barely paying any attention to it. This was the backwater area of the galaxy. She noted this system had space stations and noticed the mining operations on asteroids located in the outskirts of this system. None of which was terribly interesting save for the minor curiousity of what the food and beverages here might be like. When the flash of light from the planet surface caught her attention, she had slowed her flight to examine it. That had been a mistake. Within seconds an immense gravitational pull caught her, yanking her body forcibly towards the surface. Azura tried futilely to break free of it's grasp by increasing her speed. Seconds later she slammed into the surface of a now dead planet. Had she been the target or was it something her human family would call a coincidence?

Lying around wasn't going to answer the question and if someone was after her, it would be foolish to stay in one place and make it easy for them. Taking into account her position above the world, the position of the explosion of light, and the planet rotation, Azura calculated her approximate landing spot in relation to the origin of the blast. Lifting off the surface, she flew towards the origin of the explosion. This was a mystery that required investigating. In the unlikely event she encountered survivors, Azura knew she was obligated to offer aid.

Salvo

Salvo's first response protocol would have been to attempt to hail the surface, but somehow that seemed pointless. A sensor sweep might yield more, but he was still waiting for some of his secondary systems to reinitialize. Choosing the most brash course of action, the Argent assumed a more streamlined craft and entered the atmosphere.

As his scanners and sensors came back online, he began searching for signs of life and to triangulate the origin point of the destruction.

Outsider:
Condition:
HP: 1

As he recovered, Outsider scanned the landscape for any signs of the Lord of Entropy or his minions only to discover none. Turning his attention to the actual planet the dark haired man realized the energy looked different from entropic energy. It looked like something that he felt required a more in-depth look at and he took flight to back trace the source of the destructive wave.

KAIJU
HP: 1

Kaiju’s eyes fluttered open, needing a moment to adjust to the bright blue light emanating from her disheveled long hair. She let out a low, guttural growl as the various wounds suffered from the crash healed at a rapid rate, her pain quickly subsiding. Her strength returned to her, the atomic-powered woman gave a solid kick to the hull of her vehicle. The metal plate dislodged easily, flying off some distance and leaving Kaiju an opening to crawl out of.

And she was met with an all too familiar sight.

An entire planet, killed. The grim visage of the wreckage of a world. Suddenly, she wasn’t the nine-foot tall, radioactive engine of destruction that she was. She was that little girl again, desperately being rushed to a shelter before the bombs could do to her city what they had already done elsewhere. Coming to, covered in ash and dust, and realizing she had survived the devastation wrought on her planet. She was alive. And she was alone. Endlessly, helplessly alone.

How many ages did she wish she could leave that place? Night after night of dreaming she would find a new place to call home. How many times did she try desperately to leap away with her powerful legs; throw herself into space and let fate decide where to take her. Certainly, floating through the vast emptiness of the cosmos and the chance of encountering anything-anyone-had to be better than just surviving. Had this Curator just traded her apocalypse for another?

Kaiju brought her hand up to wipe off her chin, finding a streak of crimson there. She had bitten too hard on her lower lip, it seemed. The woman scoffed at her own weakness. She was not a pathetic child anymore. She was strong. A survivor. If this was her new world, then she would thrive here like she had before. And if whatever had caused all of this was still around... well, she felt very sorry for them.

The ground buckled beneath Kaiju’s feet as she sprung into the air.
Going to see if Kaiju can smell anything of note nearby. She has Acute and Extended Scent.

I have been using orokos.com for awhile. Seems to work well and consistently. Give it a try. You can roll as a guest or create a login. Then when you roll, you can put in the character name, campaign, whwt you are rolling for, and of course the number and type of die.

Ground Zero-

As the quintet approach the epicenter of the event, they can detect one another...not exactly an incredible feat on a mostly dead world. Tracking the path of destruction itself isn't too incredible difficult as the remains of buildings and other structures bend away from the source of devastation. Closing in, the fewer remaining identifiable objects there are. The ground itself is caught in ripples multiple stories high, like petrified waves.

At the center though, it's a different story. Seven crystalline statues of humanoids spaced in circular configuration, some 10 meters in diameter surround a mostly undisturbed area. In the center of the circle is a dais or alter of some sort. Even those normally insensitive to such things can detect the lingering entropic energy.
For the sake expediency, I'm going to have all of you arrive at more or less the same time. Characters with the Well-Informed advantage may use it to have a basic recognition of what Salvo and Outsider are and a specific recognition of Stargirl (though not her origin). Facet and Kaiju are pretty much cyphers at the moment.

Any other special senses or advantages I'll handle on a case by case basis...just let me know what you're using.

"Oh my," He spoke with ease, gradually coming to a floating position in mid-air. Left arm crossed over his chest, it's fingers lightly touched his other arm's elbow while it's own hand brushed against his chin. There was a soft, almost disarming smile upon his face while he spoke in pitch perfect English.

"I'd have thought it would only be me here, but it seems morbid curiosity persists across all species. Hmm... Some of you seem almost human. Convergent evolution at it's finest."

Glancing over to the crystalline statues, he tilted his face against an open palm. The smile he wore turned downcast while he looked upon them with interest. "Not what one expects at the epicenter of an amageddon, isn't it?"
with the use of Eidetic Memory broadly, and maybe Cosmic Lore specifically, is there an expertise I could roll to gather information on those figures?
Am I dead? Am I alive? The answer may surprise you!
