Iona stands briefly disoriented from blast. Even though she is not physically injured, the surprise and loudness of the explosion leaves her artificial ears "ringing". The initial heat of the blast also leaves her Infravision a bit wonky.

As she regains her senses, her medical instincts take over. "Is everyone alright?!?!" She says in a louder-than-normal whisper. Initially, she looks over her own body for any traces of injury no matter how slight. Then she quickly moves closer to her Ascendent comrades looking them over for any sign of injury. But after reassurances from both of them, she grudgingly acknowledges that they are alright. Sometimes she forgets that they are not normal people. In fact, this type of situation only underscores how inhuman they all are.
"Make for the security office.", is all Diego conveyed readying himself to run towards where he once had flame thrown at him.
Iona waits for Diego to take the lead. Then, walking beside Peter and prepared to play the "accompanying girlfriend", she proceeds to follow the "priest" down the hallway of an apparently damned hospital.

All of you weather the explosion with superficial injuries. What would be cuts, scraps, and bruising. This is more apparent in Iona's case, as Diego and Peter's bodies repair themselves. While no meaningful damage is inflicted on your bodies, your possessions … including your clothes … are another matter. These mundane items are not nearly as resilient as you are. While Peter and Iona's clothes have been scorched and shredded, Diego's clothing is an extension of his own nanite mass and can be reconfigured at his discretion.

As you reorientate yourselves in the wake of the explosive device going off, you realize portions of the barrier remain in place. The blast was focused in the direction of the stairwell, and door that you would have you enter the hallway from. Moving under mundane means requires that you climb over the remnants of the barricade and weave through some debris before getting to the other side. Shortly afterwards you notice the barrels of shotguns pointing out of doors on either side of the hallway. Four guns from four separate doors. Towards the back you hear a woman's voice with a faint Scottish accent call out.

"Who the hell are you and how are you still alive?"
Iona takes a moment to look down at her singed and tattered clothes.
OOC: As she examines herself a little more closely, can she tell if someone could deduce that she is artificial given the degree to which her clothes and synthetic epidermis have been compromised?
The young cyborg says nothing. Instead she opts for Diego to take charge as the "Ascendant of Deception". Only after he moves forward to speak does she allow herself to walk side-by-side with Peter past the obstacle-course of debris. As she looks down the hallway towards the direction of the voice, she allows her Infravision to adjust to the low-light environment. She also listens with her acute hearing for the sound of voices, hoping to pick up anything they might whisper to one another.
I'm not sure if a perception roll is appropriate here, but I'll give one just in case. Supernaturalist:1D20+10 → 22(12 + 10). So, a total of a 22.

Diego adjusted his clothing to appear shredded and skin to appear bruised with minor cuts. Nothing too serious, but climbing over into the hallway with a proper priest outfit undamaged and body undamaged would have added difficulties to the ruse. Once he got into the hallway, he was glad he took a moment to adjust his appearance. Lying was much easier in his new form, which he was thankful for at this point.

"Thank the Lord!", proclaimed Diego in Mexican accent while making the sign of the cross and feinting a quick prayer. "By the grace of God we are alive. I was in the basement with this young man and his girlfriend providing counseling when we heard the demons moving. It is terrible down there and full of what devils I never thought I would see. They were mutilating bodies and doing what only the Lord above and devil below knows to them. We managed to evade most of the creatures and dispatched a few to hell whence they came, but when we tried to head towards one of the stair wells, the creatures were stating to congregate there. Glory be to God for delivering us to the stairwell we came up and allowing us to survive the explosion. We were trying to make it to the security office where we thought it would be safe.", said Diego pulling off the best panicked Spanish priest impression he could muster. His parents never were particularly religious, but he saw enough of priests to know how they acted form his various art examinations in churches.

"My name is Father Dominguez. The bandaged man is Andrew and his girlfriend is Mary.", said Diego by way of introduction.

Peter's clothing was scorched and damaged, though his real concern was for the bandages, quasi-burnt but thankfully intact, so his distinct coloration would be hidden.

When introduced by Diego, 'Andrew' mutely nodded and gripped 'Mary's' arm tightly.

When Iona looks down at herself, checking for signs of her synthetic nature, she sees cuts in skin and small measure of red blood. Perhaps some bruising of her dermis. She knows it is all an artificial mask, but it would take an actual medical test to determine that wasn't human blood or human skin. It all looked very normal. What wasn't normal was the fact she survived a point blank explosion with superficial scratches and bruising. The same could be said of Diego and Peter's conditions. You were all right in front of that explosion when it went off. Normal people would all be dead or seriously injured.

"Then you're likely infected and we can't help you. I'm sorry. You have two choices, we can put you down quick, or you can go back down stairs and wait to turn into one of those things."

… the same voice replied to Diego's words. Looking into the hallway Diego and Iona can see four people hugging the doorways of four separate rooms for cover. Three men and a woman. They each have bloodied flak jackets on, and each of them is pointing a shotgun down the hallway at the three of you.

"No! Please!..." Iona begs, stepping forward and pulling what's left of her tattered hood from her head. "Please do not abandon us to those creatures below."

She unzips her hooded-jacket slightly allowing the full beauty of her face, hair, neck and shoulders to become visible. "We were very fortunate that the blast did not harm us. There must have been some defect in the explosive device for we all stand here alive."

She stops after only a few steps, not wanting to tempt the good will of the armed-personnel. "Have pity upon us! We are clearly not of the same flesh as those beasts below. You will sentence us to death if you send us back."
OOC: Here's my persuasion roll: Supernaturalist:1D20+10 → 16(6 + 10). I don't particularly like the roll (a 16 total), so I'm going to use an HP to try again. My second roll is Supernaturalist:1D20+10 → 15(5 + 10). That's a 15 +10 for the HP, so a total of 25. I'm now down to 1 HP. I'm not sure if Iona's attractiveness will boost her persuasion with any of the guards. If so, then her roll may be a little higher.

Diego looked at the soldiers as he had seen men of God do when trying to invoke the passion and sympathy of parishioners during mass. "We were saved by the grace of God. Do not banish us back to the demons below. I served in the navy and was made aware of explosive devices. They do not always function as intended. The faces of the monsters below are empty shells possessed by an unimaginable evil. None of us are like that or were infected. I give my solemn oath.", said Diego trying to not lie too much or put on the pleas too thick.

"All we ask is shelter in the security office. If we show any signs of being infected, you can shot us.", he says attempting to convince the fighters. He knew they could all be taken easily enough, but if they got a message out it was all lost.

Peter chose to make no speech, no dramatic statement. Just a simple, honest, "Please." It could be interpreted at face value, although in Peter's case it really meant, please, I really don't want to have to kill you.

"Stay the hell back!"

… the woman with the Scottish accent shouts when Diego and Iona begin to step forwards. One of the men up front pushes his gun forwards an inch, as if to threaten your group with it's use. Though the four remain on edge while you plead your case, they also allow you to speak without interruption. Afterwards there is long drawn out silence, but it is eventually broken by the spokesperson of the group, the woman at the back.

"Let us see what is under those bandages. I don't care if he's hamburger under there, I need to see with my own eyes he hasn't started to turn."
OOC wrote:Peter gets 1 HP, for his Inhuman Appearance serving as a Complication. At the same time, if they see his true nature it will expose the existence of the Ascendants.

Iona realizes this is the last desperate chance for deception. She holds her hands up in order to show that she is unarmed. Standing perfectly still, not daring to close distance with the armed personnel any further, she speaks in a calm voice: "My boyfriend has a rare genetic skin disorder. We were here awaiting treatment when those...things...began to attack. He can lift his shirt to show you his stomach and chest, but you will clearly see that he does not resemble those horrible flesh-eating beasts."

She pauses and turns her head to look back to Peter.
OOC: Assuming Peter plays up the ruse, she'll continue on this line if deception. However, she is already formulating a plan of attack. If the guards ultimately refuse, then she stands "ready" to execute an electrical attack on the nearest guard.
"See! His skin does not resemble that of those abominations."

There was other ways to handle this situation. They could have backed away and lured a few of the creatures up to overwhelm the defenders. They could have made a deception of some sort to lure the soldiers away. They could have found another way up. Diego could have flown through the air vents like before to scout. Now they were screwed. Iona, as was her custom had endangered them again.

If you show your skin, our cover is blown. If you do not, they will get suspicious and force you to lift your shirt. You will be the first target they will likely fire upon. Iona will need to be reminded this is a military mission when the time comes and hiding our powers and appearences is essential., sent Diego over the mental link to Peter. All the while he kept his look on his face as the ever caring priest.

"Who knows what diseases may be in the air. By removing his bandages you will expose him to who knows what disease if it is in the air. Please have mercy on us. God delivered us from hell below and his grace if he so blesses us will shield us from harm. If any of you are God people of faith, I beg you to help us.", pleaded Diego knowing full well it was already set in motion what would happen.

Carman has been working under Dr. Sokolov's direction for a little over a month now. Though she was ever isolated from the rest of his assets, he mostly sent her on solo missions.or with a single partner. Gathering information. Scouting out locations. Occassionally making contact or exchanges with criminal elements within the city. Only a couple times has he asked her, specifically, to kill someone.

A couple days ago Carman was smuggled outside of Hadron City for a mission. She hooked up with some hired help, an extraction specialist named Alister Renly. The two of you were to retrieve a Hadron-tech computer processor from Stronghold. They were going to be installing it in one of their new installations out of state. The plan Alister came up with involved hitting the transport before it reached it's destination.

The attack on the transport went to plan. But afterwards Stronghold found and began chasing the two of you. You agreed to split up until things cools down. You managed to shake the Stronghold hounds, but Alsiter didn't. Worse, he was the one carrying the processor. Earlier yesterday you learned that he had been injured in his attempts to elude Stronghold. Turns out the Wichita police caught him before the mercenaries had, and he was being treated for a gunshot at St. Luke hospital.

There was worse news. There were reports on TV and over the radio about some kind of viral outbreaks in the US, and one of them was taking place in Wichita … at St. Luke's. When Carman relayed an update to her benefactor, the response came in a package handed off to her by a courier. Inside was a body suit she recognized from her time in the military. they were occasionally given out when people were expected to be dealing with biological hazards.

The courier informed Carman that the National Guard was expected to be called in to quarantine the hospital … which meant she needed to get inside before they arrived. There was some good news, perhaps. The courier also told Carman about another team on mission at the hospital. One of their number included Iona. Carman hadn't met her personally, but she knew that Iona was some kind of android that Dr. Sokolov built, and who was acting as his liaison to a group that worked for Praetor Null, codenamed the Ascendants.

It was past noon now. Carman had infiltrated the hospital and found that the place had gone to hell. What started as a viral outbreak turned into a cross between Aliens and a zombie horror flick as the infected started turning into monsters. For the past couple hours she's been sneaking and fighting her way through the hospital looking for Alister while avoiding paranoid security and freakish creatures. Then an explosion resounds at the stairwell she was planning to make use of to get to the next floor. Perhaps despite her better judgement, Carman moves in to investigate. Maybe there was an opportunity she could exploit.

As she approaches, four people in defensive positions with their back facing her, and shotguns pointed at three people pleading to be allowed access to the floor.
OOC wrote:Due to the nature of this mission, Carman has been given a head to toe form fitting body suit that grants her Immunity to Disease, so long as it's integrity is not compromised. If she suffers a total of -4 to her Toughness, the suit will be compromised and she will loose her Immunity to Disease. Given it's figure fitting nature, Carman will be able to wear her other gear on top of it.

Carman enters the scene. It is dark, so if Carman doesn't have anything to aid her vision she will not be able to make out details: such as Iona's identity. If Carman is sneaking, you may make a Stealth check. Otherwise Diego and Iona will be able to perceive her without needing to make a roll. Peter and the NPCs will still need to make Perception checks.

Carman had seen a lot of things in her life, but this was her first time living through a schlock horror film. She stuck to the shadows as best as she could, keeping keeping her flashlight at the ready, but turned off, silenced pistol in her other hand as she made her way through the hospital’s halls.
Where the hell are they keeping Renly?

Following the sounds of explosions, the scene she could make out in the darkness looking tense. More security on edge she figured, though the three individuals being threatened were harder to classify. Hospital employees or patients trapped in the hospital during the crisis most likely.

She considered whether to get involved. It wasn’t her mission, and hitting the four on one situation hard and fast enough to come out on top could pull too much attention.

Still, she could see where this situation was heading and it was just... sloppy. A few innocents gunned down cause the security in this place can’t handle the schlock horror film they find themselves in. She sighed, at the very least she could give the civvies a chance to get out of dodge. Holstering her torch and pistol, she unslung her rifle, just in case, and thumbed the pin from a smoke grenade, and tossed the small can amongst the shotgun wielding guards.

Lobbing a smoke grenade into the guards to create an obscuring cloud, silenced rifle out to start shooting if things get dicey.
I would like to apologise for the chaos that will no doubt ensue.

They had gotten a stroke of luck. Someone was either attacking the soldiers or the three of them. Regardless, they had given Diego exactly what he needed. Now, they wouldn't need to expose their powers to everyone and quickly dispatch the shot gun yielding guards before they could radio it in. Whispering low enough so only to be audible by the Peter and Iona, Diego simply said "Lets go.". No big speeches, just a quick command.

Through the mental link, Diego said more to Peter. Grab Iona and force her int the direction we need to head to the security office. You know the route. Let whoever tossed the smoke grenade deal with the consequences., transmits Diego.
