Iona levitating a truck was worrisome, but not an immediate worry. Similarly, Stronghold having a better tactical assessment of the groups abilities was something that couldn't be altered anymore. No doubt, Iona couldn't show her face anymore in public without high risk of detection. It was a celebrity now. While he didn't have access to the internet lately or feel inclined to look the conspiracy websites on his own, but Diego would wager there was whole sites discussing what they saw. In this day and age, everyone was a journalist. Everyone was a commentator.

The more troubling bit was the tracking chips. No doubt Praetor Null had a plan to handle it, but now it became clear why allies in the city were needed to help handle the threat. Stronghold would be guarding the infrastructure expecting an attack. On the plus side, it gave groups like the Reapers and Jaguars motivation to help as their days of operating with impunity would be gone. Their respective leadership would likely have plans of their own. It would take convincing, but they may come around to a group plan where the resistance to Stronghold wasn't smaller random groups doing their own thing. It would still be smaller groups and hopefully looking like they were doing their own thing. Behind it all would be something more if coordinated properly.

"Has there been any intelligence form inside the city of any of the factions in the city like the Reapers or Jaguars mobilizing a response? If any is classified due to methods or operatives involved, I can view it in a secure room. Since our task is to recruit allies, any intelligence files we may have on their plans would be useful in dictating how we approach them. We would not be the best group to reach out to the First Generation or even the group Hitori and I encountered outside the city during the storm.", inquires Diego. The Church of the Holy Matyrs already had a contact int he form of Peters friend. It was the other groups which would prove insightful. They also happened to be armed well.

She realizes there is no leaving the room. She also realizes there is no talking Dr. Sokolov out of his demands. They young cyborg slowly begins to walk back towards the stretchers. Her eyes slowly pan across the medical tray.

"I am not against torture, Master." She says softly, lifting a drill from the tray. "But what have these two done to warrant such a thing?"

She then slowly walks around the man's stretcher and begins to lower the drill-point towards his cheek. "Are we now in the business of petty evils?". she says glancing again at Dr. Sokolov.

Without touching the man's face, she activates the drill. Her angelic face leans closer to him as she whispers. "What is your daughter's name?"

Diego
Diego's request for information concerning the Reapers and Jaguars is met with a single shake of the head from Zachary. It was done slowly, considering how fast the creature moved.

"Information on those groups is limited. At least I have nothing to share with you. You will have to do the leg work on your own, or delegate that to one of your subordinates."

After making that suggestion he turns his head to look to the door Diego had earlier entered from.

"Unless there is something pressing that requires my attention ... I am growing tired of the Q and A and you have a house to put in order."

Iona
When Iona walks past the mad scientist he turns with her, continuing to face her, but remains near the door. Later, as she looks back at her with a question on her lips, she is met with silence and a hard ... demanding .. look from behind mirror lenses glasses. The time for conversation was over. Her question didn't matter. Only Iona's next actions.

Iona makes her choice. The drill in hand, she leans over the bound prisoner he looks up at her with big wide eyes. He doesn't answer her though. The cyborg leans in, lowers the drill ... then the pain and screams begin. A splatter mist of blood sprays over Iona's cheeks staining it red. Behind her she hears the doctor's voice.

"In time perhaps you will realize that I am helping you."

... and with the camera focusing on Iona's blood speckled face the scene fades black to the sound of a drill whirling wetly amidst a man's screams.

Her name was Elanor. Her father didn't break quickly, but everyone breaks in time and eventually the he gave up his daughter's name to his torturer. They're both dead now. After her 'lesson' was over Dr. Sokolov told Iona to clean up and return to the base she had been stationed at with Diego and Peter. She was also informed that Ascendant Gonzalez would be continuing her education, as decreed by Praetor Null.

Your house...if you could call it that. The base had capable enough soldiers staffing it and a more than capable delegate, but Diegos version of war wasn't straight up fights or even hit and runs. His was more sabotage and get the enemy to fight themselves. Deception was his art and preferred way of war. This house, as it had been coined was too bright and in the light built on compromises that had compromised the bases intent making it nothing more than a way point for its uses. Over time, that will change. Now, he had to get it in order. Diego doesn't even bother responding more than a few words to Chen. "Farewell. When your observer arrives they shall be accommodated.", is all he replies.

Once alone int he room with the people who were working in it, Diego departs the same way he entered through the cracks in the door. Administrative matters, as much as he loathed them had to be attended while Peter recuperated. As he walked, Diego shifted back into a solid form of his former visage to find the green house manager. It had been over a week since an audience was requested although he would have preferred Iona or Peter to be coming along. Diego could care less about food being grown.
I'm all good with Iona and Diego coming back together.

Later, as she looks back at her with a question on her lips, she is met with silence and a hard ... demanding .. look from behind mirror lenses glasses. The time for conversation was over. Her question didn't matter. Only Iona's next actions.

Iona makes her choice. After stalling for a handful of seconds with drill in hand, she could tell Dr. Sokolov knew she wasn't going to go through with it. Her act was pointless. As though confirming this, she heard the former Praetor's voice behind her.

"I am not going to force you to do anything Iona. You will remain in this room until you have learned what you need to."

The sound of locks being disengaged followed. The door opened. Dr. Sokolov exited, feet lightly tapping over the tiled floor. The door swished closed. Locks engaged with a thunk and a click. Iona was alone in the room with the restrained man and his daughter. A tray of tools at her disposal for their victimization.

As the day went on Iona realized there was no food in this room. No water. No plumbing for them to use. In the following days the room's stink from bodily waste grew and Iona was forced to watch the health of the father and daughter degrade as they slowly died of thirst. After they expired, Iona was left alone with their corpses.

... then the doors lining the room opened, excluding the one that Dr. Sokolov had exited from. When Iona investigates them, she finds the same scene over and over again. A small room occupied by a bed and a corpse. Ten people in ten rooms. All dead from dehydration. As though waiting for her to see all the death, Iona hears Dr. Sokolov's voice even though he is not present.

"You could have saved these people. Instead you killed them all by refusing to take two lives. There are times when you will be asked to commit evil acts for a greater good. If you shy away from this, more will suffer, and it will be because of you."

If Iona speaks out, no reply is made by Dr. Sokolov. Nothing until an hour later, when the exit to the containment room can be heard unlocking. At that point she hears the doctor's voice again.

"Go. Your education will continue under the tutelage of Ascendant Gonzalez."

EDIT:
The resolution of Iona's scene has been edited to account for my misunderstanding Supernaturalist's intent. Iona will be out of action and unable to interact with the other PCs for the duration of her confinement. Which is about four days.

Because of me? You are insane old man. But so much the better. At least I know now how mad you truly are.

Iona does not hurry. She walks from body to body, her keen mind observing details of the various corpses. Over the next hour she contemplates the shocking events of the last few days. Eventually Sokolov's voice breaks the dead silence.

Without a word the young cyborg gathers any belongings she possesses and leaves for the new base. During the trip back to the base, she tries to make sense of the recent events, but to no avail. Iona does eventually manage to clear her thoughts enough to contemplate ways to replace her lost medical equipment.

Upon arrival at the base, she goes to her quarters adjacent to the infirmary and buries herself in some research until otherwise called upon.
OOC: Iona does not have much free time. Whatever bit she had would have been spent on studying the macro-virus. That will be put on hold. She will now spend more time analyzing her own composition and functions. She would -in time - like to understand how to heal and repair herself. Any free time will be spent focusing on that research.

Diego
The command personnel of the base, that being Diego, Peter, and Iona, had been absent for over a week. When Diego's meeting with Zachary ends with the speedster blurring out of the room, Diego leaves with the expectation of heading to speak with the lead botanist Catherine Applegate. But he is soon sidetracked as people try to get his attention to deliver reports, make requests, voice concerns and propose ideas. It keeps Diego distracted and busy, preventing him from making serious headway into personal projects for the next four days.

Things calm down and Sanders manages to take more of the weight off after the first half of Diego's week back. Again he sets off to speak with lead botanist Applegate when someone feels the need to approach Diego and inform him that Iona has arrived on the base.

Iona
Back on the base she had helped Null's two Ascendants create Iona is met with a mixture of respect for her position as part of the base's command trinity, but also leery distance. She's an ally, but one that is not fully trusted by the people under her.

Retreating to the laboratory she finds members of her staff active, but with no particular focused goal or direction. She hasn't given any assignments and there have been no significant demands on their attention. So she finds that some approach her with requests to undertake personal projects. Nothing important. Nothing of true merit. But she has a skilled staff with nothing demanding their attention.

While Iona mentally make plans to study her composition and gain a better understanding of herself so that she may become less dependent on Dr. Sokolov, these people pull at her attention long enough for Diego to get word of her presence on the base.
OOC wrote:If you want jump right into the meeting with Dr. Applegate, let me know. Otherwise you can touch bases with each other before Diego drags Iona into the meeting so she can do any science talk that needs doing.

Reports, daily log reviews, maintenance issues, yada yada yada. When one department head rambled on about some other item that had to repair or another kept going on about the advantages of something or other, Diego listened. He had to. It didn't mean he wanted to, but with Iona still off, Peter recuperating, and Sanders needing a break there was no one else. If it was anyone other than Sanders, he would have told them to suck it up. Despite his current condition, he still felt an affinity to Tilly. The more science like reports, he made sure were forwarded to Iona's electronic mail. Engineering type reports, he made sure went to Peter. Security based reports, he did pay some attention. Given the insignificance of the base and the location, it wasn't very active. Same old everyday. Ionas personal robotic guards made everyone uneasy, but there wasn't anything to be done about them.

In the few moments he did have to sneak out, he kept his ear out for any word on current events in the city from the homeless who frequented the area. There wasn't much of value. It didn't mean there wasn't value in his efforts. The faces he assumed made friends and started prepping the more promising people to be his future eyes and ears in the city.

When the time came where he could finally get to the greenhouse, he was floating down the corridor when word came of Iona finally getting back. Part of him had assumed Sokolov had scrapped it in favour of another pet. If only he was so lucky. Gravitating to Iona's reported position, he spoke with his natural voice devoid of any inflections. "If you are settled, Dr. Applegate would like to have a word. Given your preference for science, your presence in the greenhouse would be needed.", says Diego gladly sharing the load of base management finally.

For the first time ever, Iona feels comfort in returning to the base. Despite Dr. Sokolov's oft-detached personality, she found relief in the presence of her Master, but no longer. The "Good Doctor" seemed as foreign to her as Praetor Null himself. Perhaps her feelings would pass, but she could not help but despair.

Upon returning to the infirmary, she is surprised at the lack of clientele. No wounded combatants for Praetor Null's cause? Have the Praetor and Colonel Costa gone on a lengthy vacation?

Looking over her infirmary staff, she calls them together briefly before going to her laboratory. Iona reassures the staff that she will be working on procuring equipment to replace the lost items. In the mean time, they are to continue their shift-responsibilities until further instructed. It may be that things have been "slow" around the infirmary, but they must be ready to transition from almost complete inactivity to long, arduous shifts if need be. She takes a brief moment to address any concerns and questions before retiring.

In her laboratory, Iona immediately begins to scour any data that she can find on her computer that would allow her to begin formulating a plan for her own self-sufficient maintenance. Standing at her computer, she begins to prioritize the procedures which she will undertake to better understand her own artificial composition and processes. She decides to start with the easiest and least invasive materials first: Her own skin, hair, and nails. She begins to take very small samples for chemical analysis. It's not an exciting beginning, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

She had only made modest progress when word came that Diego requested her presence. With a sigh, she stops what she's doing and proceeds to greet him. Standing before his murky blasphemous form, she acknowledges that she is ready to resume her duties. "Ascendant, you have need of me?"
"If you are settled, Dr. Applegate would like to have a word. Given your preference for science, your presence in the greenhouse would be needed".
Without any sign of emotion in a tone almost as monotonous as Diego's himself, she responds "Let us proceed then."

OOC wrote:Iona, make an Expertise Science check. This will cover a month's worth of labor and study for Iona looking into the make up of the skin (hair, nails, etc.) that composes her most exterior portions. When Iona has free time, she'll be considered working towards this labor.

I am going to setup the greenhouse scene for your transition, though you are free to continue interaction between your characters prior to the meeting if you like.
The greenhouse is expansive and takes up the most past in your underground complex, by far. Yet when you enter, it is mostly empty growing stations devoid of plants. As you progress o the back quarter of the greenhouse this changes, and visibly segregated into different crops. There are people actively working in these areas, checking on the water system, tending to plants, and so forth. They respectfully acknowledge Iona and Diego when they notice you and when asked about the location of Dr. Applegate, you are directed to her.

You find Catherine getting her hands dirty rotating the soil of some already established plants. She is a mousy looking woman in her late thirties with light brown hair pulled back into an orderly bun, and wears square black framed glasses. She wears some well worn denim jeans and a long sleeved white shirt that is presently rolled up to the elbows.

Clipped to her left hip is an Ipod that is currently playing a news report about a curious case of a missing man named Duncan Wheat and his daughter Elanor. They went missing about two weeks ago and when the police went to check out their home, a hidden room was uncovered with a library of home videos depicting the father and daughter torturing and killing local teenagers believed to belong to a group referred to as the First Generation.

Dr. Applegate is engrossed in her work and doesn't notice your arrival until one of you actually address her. At which point she jerks, startled, and looks between you in surprise. Like a bunny caught in the headlights of an oncoming car she freezes, looking between the murky cloud, and the inhumanly beautiful cyborg. Then abruptly she turns off the Ipod before shoving a dirt covered hand somewhere between the to of you as though expecting to shake hands.

"Catherine Applegate. It is good to finally meet you. Both of you."

Security reports, lab work that was nonexistent, and now a large part of the base used for planting that wasn't being used. There was many deficiencies at the base. Weapon shortages, no garage, complete lack of transportation, and so on. No food though would make things difficult. Praetor Null expected him to be a base administrator part of the time, so would need to tend to a possible food shortage if any.

Before Dr. Applegate answered, Diego couldn't help but wonder. If the first generation had taken the torturers and killers of their ranks, what would they try to do to him and Peter assuming they could be recognized? He wasn't terribly worried about them, but to be so bold as to vanish two people was a sign of possible escalation. Of all the moving parts int he city, this was another troubling movement.

If Diego was to leverage the base as an information center eventually, he was going to have to learn to put at least some at ease. So, he shifted into his solid form with black mist hovering around him a little still. His figure was not dissimilar to spirits in the background of doctored pictures. "We were detained by matters urgent to the cause outside the city and ran into a few complications. There was other matters I had to be briefed on and brought Iona who will have better insight if you need anything. What is the information you wished to share?", says Diego adjusting his tone to be almost human with an Egyptian accent.

Here is my Expertise: Science Roll: Supernaturalist: 1D20+15 → 30(15 + 15). So, a total of 30.
Iona walks silently alongside Diego. Still wearing the form-fitting outfit provided by Dr. Sokolov, she has further covered herself with a white lab-coat. Her recent examinations into her own exterior, chemical makeup have given her data over which to ponder.

As she and Diego enter the greenhouse, she is initially surprised at the lack of plants. Taking note of the climate conditions, Iona attempts to identify some of the plants in the back of the greenhouse as she draws near to Dr. Applegate. Though no botanist, her knowledge of pharmaceuticals and their ingredients give her some knowledge of medicinal plants.
"Catherine Applegate. It is good to finally meet you. Both of you."
"Good afternoon, Doctor." the young cyborg says softly. "I am pleased to meet you."

Iona then pauses, allowing Diego to explain our lack of promptness in meeting with her before inquiring as to why she requested a meeting with us. Before Diego begins to speak, Iona cannot but overhear the latest news on the radio. Though surprised and confused, she does her best to conceal her emotions.

Could it be true that the father and daughter were enemies of our cause? If so, Why didn't Dr. Sokolov tell me?

OOC wrote:Make a note of that roll for analyzing the composition of Iona's outer bits. I am not going to address it now, because Iona hasn't actually accomplished anything yet. Remind me at the end of the in game month.

If you want to make an Expertise Science check and try to get some information about the plants in the greenhouse, you may do so. Otherwise they're just plants to you, or you don't actually pay enough attention to what is around you to discern specific or noteworthy plants.
When neither Iona or Diego take her offered hand, Dr. Applegate looks to her hand, then drops it. She then proceeds to clear her dirt covered hands off on her jeans. At least the palms.

"Yes, well, I'm sure you're thinking 'This Catherine, she must be inept or a lazy lay about' ... what with walking into a nearly empty greenhouse."

When she uses talks about Diego and Iona's thinking her inept, Dr. Applegate takes on a deed authorities voice. Or at least tries to. She can't. Then mentioning the empty greenhouse she raises her hands and waves her arms around like someone who had never learned to gesture properly. After a short period of dangerous arm flailing her she settles her limps down at her side again and huffs.

"I was holding off because I wanted to have this meeting with you first. You know, important decisions and ... then a week went by."

Up until now Catherine had a feel about her of half talking to herself. Half venting her exasperation and embarrassment at not being able to do her job. Now her attention focuses on Diego and Iona.

"Alright, here it is: we can fill this place with plants but there is a matter of efficiency. If we split our focus on crops we won't be getting as much out of our efforts as we would if focused on one. I already have our basic needs taken into consideration back here. So don't worry about that. But if we focused the rest of the greenhouse on growing, say, food crops then we'd be able to build a stockpile or give it out to the homeless."

At mentioning the homeless She makes an wild, awkward gesture with one arm, not her hand arm her entire arm, towards the greenhouse' entry point. Later she holds her hand up, raising three fingers.

"The three options are: food, that's the easiest. Biofuel crops is your second option. We have the equipment here to process them so we're set there. Just another step involved in getting the product. Then there are medicinal plants. We're not setup for processing them into pharmaceuticals, but we could turn the base's laboratory into a pharmaceutical lab. The down side there is it would have to be dedicated to the production of medicinal drugs full time."
OOC wrote:You grow a baseline of food and biofuel crops to feed your staff and keep the power running. There is also an allotment for lab work related plants. Dr. Applegate already has that setup. Dr. Applegate is proposing that the rest of the space be used to focus on one resource: medicinal, food, or biofuel crops. If you don't focus on one area, you won't be able to grow enough of any of them to have any kind of big impact. It'll effectively be status quo. You'll have what you need for day to day operations and a little extra in lean times.

This resource you may keep for yourselves, use to barter, or dedicate to a project. The example given by Dr. Applegate is giving food to the homeless in your area.

Focusing on the biofuel crops will allow you to not only stockpile a supple for your generator, but if you get vehicles, with a little work, you can tweak the vehicles to run on biofuels rather than traditional gasoline. Super science vehicles will likely have more exotic power requirements though.

Gearing up to produce pharmaceuticals will require converting your lab into a specialized pharmaceutical lab, and dedicating it to the production of medicinal drugs. You won't be able to use it for anything else.

Seeing an opportunity, Diego decided to take advantage of it. Generally speaking, he had stayed in his native form when taking meetings and planning with various department heads. With Dr. Applegate, he changed tact. Assets and people helping in the field needed to be finessed. She was staff, but a bit nervous and potentially a great help. Shifting his form back into his prior appearance, complete with a Spanish and Arabic mixed accent Diego smiles. It was friendly, but anyone who spent any appreciable duration of time with him knew what Diego showed was rarely if ever true.

"We were unavoidably detained with pressing business of the cause. Your efforts have fed the ecosystem of our base with food and fuel. For this, we should be thanking you.", began Diego with an uncharacteristic display of charm. Something was up with him and brewing in his devious mind. "Now, back to the matter at hand. Your capable management of the plants provides some interesting opportunities. How many would we be able to feed with the extra food you can produce? This city has many struggling people who would benefit from healthy meals.", inquires Diego.

Already brewing in his head was visions of small food kitchens serving as recruiting and centers for canon fodder in the battles to come. At the very least, they could be the bases and his eyes. Not that he would tell this nervous woman that. Food could also serve as currency for base personal to have someone watch their vehicles. While he didn't know how she felt on matters of compassion, most people cared about the plight of the homeless. Drugs would have been interesting as well as an income source, but Iona was not likely to give up her lab she had fought so hard to carve out as her own. Fuel would be useful, but short of raiding Stronghold vehicles not immediately useful.

While awaiting a response, he looked over to Iona waiting her response. He didn't know what had happened to her nor did he care so long as she kept in line. However she went, Diego didn't feel like getting into an argument in front of Dr. Applegate.

When Diego begins speaking to Dr. Applegate in a congenial tone, Iona cannot help but turn her head to stare at him with a barely concealable look of surprise.

What’s his angle?

She does not stare too long though. Whatever Diego is doing, there is calculation and purpose behind it. Iona would rather not draw attention to the possibility that he might be manipulating the doctor. Instead the young cyborg simply waits for him to finish speaking before adding her two-cents.

I’ll be frank with you doctor, I do not relish the idea of surrendering my laboratory for the manufacture of medicine, even though the idea is a good one. I have too many valuable projects that I have undertaken for which my equipment is necessary.

On the other hand, I am rather indifferent to how we use the plants otherwise. I can see potential in both uses. Although it does seem like our ability to utilize vehicles openly in the city does make the biofuel option somewhat less attractive at present. As far as I’m concerned, the Ascendant may choose from the two remaining options.
