Diego Gonzalez
HP: 1
CND: Not quite together

Waking in the medical coffin was a jolt, but so was realizing he was mere centimeters from the roof of it with some of the instruments sticking right through him. Somehow, he wasn't panicked. It felt as if this was his new normal although by any other definition normal wouldn't even be in the same dimension. He also didn't feel...solid? It didn't make sense. Things poking through where he though his torso would be proved otherwise. Also, he didn't have a torso per se. It was more of the middle of a cloud than a properly formed body part. Similarly, he had sort of hands. Some of the cloud he realized was his body moved when he tried to move his hands, but they too bended in ways he didn't know possible and passed through him. Trying to turn over, he realized he was floating as well. Not too much due to the small space, but just enough.

Even while processing it all, his mind was focused on what he dreamt or experienced. It felt so real. If he was a cloud, maybe it was possible for star eating monsters..no creatures to exist. Either way, he had to find out and if true the only way he saw forward was a united world.

There wasn't time to ponder these thoughts and his new form further when the medical coffin opened exposing just a mist in the shape of the space Diego once lay. Somehow, his mind said keep it together and well he kept together. Focusing even more, he told himself to get it together. Being a mist...cloud...floating particles? Whatever he was, he needed to get a body together. If he could keep himself in a floating mass together he could maybe form a body. At first, it was like water drops in air combining to make a body of pure black opaqueness. This body to formed around the various instruments. Trying even harder, his mind told his body to try harder. After another round, a solid body of black opaqueness lay in the medical coffin.

Now he felt things better. Like before. It was different though. He was detached and concerns of the past didn't seem to matter anymore as if they were too tiny. The cause and whatever he thought he saw coming in the dream outweighed anything. Sensations of touch also felt muted. What should have been cold, felt like just a solid object with little other properties. He knew it should be cold. It felt a little cooler, but not as much as he thought it should.
Iona nods in the direction of Praetor Null as she approaches the first Ascension chamber. Carefully loosening the restraints, she speaks gently to each 'patient', "Can you move under your own power? Do not rush! We are in no hurry, and you can be assisted if necessary."
The restraints had already went through his cloud body by the time Iona came over. "I can move fine. In fact, I feel better than fine. I feel reborn.", said Diego sitting up. Null had said to make sure he was fine and that was all he allowed. Praetor Null had gifted Diego with whatever he had become plus he had sworn allegiance. So, he followed orders. Thinking back to what he used to be triggered something in him, a change of sorts as his pure black body shifted back into Diegos appearance before nearly dying. The only reason he was aware of this was because of his hands changing and suddenly having clothes. "What happened...?", inquires Diego out of curiosity more than worry.

HP: 1

Peter tried to bring up a mantra, something to focus on - but the pain ripped apart any ability to even think of one. It was a blessed relief when the agony faded away into... a dream, a memory, an experience?

Peter was entranced and greatly perplex by what he saw. Two opposing men, a machine of unreal nature, a sense of transformation... were they Dr. Impossible and Imperator? But before he could think about it more, his eyes shot open as if he was shocked.

Light filtered in... and so did a plethora of signals. Peter rose slowly and gingerly, less out of lack of balance as trying handle the reception of all this sudden input. Strangely, there was no sense of nausea, no disorientation. It was only after he was on his feet that Peter noticed his hands, and the rest of his body. His hair and skin color had disappeared, all lines of black separating segments of white, gray and more black.

Ascension really did mean they were no longer human, Peter realized, sensing exactly what he and the others now were.

"We have been converted into nanite-based lifeforms. Living machines, in effect." Peter explained, like a teacher holding forth a regular lecture, not someone who should be in utter panic or shock. *A network in fact.* His words there weren't heard - they appeared in the minds of the other Ascendants, transmitted.

The part Peter didn't mention as he stepped forward for inspection was that there was more. The network itself was linked to something greater, vaster. What it was he could not discern, not even that it was there but for the influence it left, like the lingering scent of fumes from a diesel truck that had long left the area.

Ascension was indeed something beyond the comprehension of the prior Peter, and this one did not know if he could truly learn its secrets.

Reaper
HP: 2

Lights flickered back into existance, replacing the endless night that Reaper was accustomed too. She could see again. She tested movement in her body. Her arm twitched, her fingers responded when she commanded them too, she could turn her neck, this was good. She could hear, she could see. She was alive. Her thoughts flashbacked briefly to what has happened. All she remembered from the experience was agonizing pain, was fear that she thought she had long ago discarded, the sheer terror at was happening to her, at the incomprehensable scale of change her body was going through. Then blacknes. She must have passed out.

It didn't matter, none of it mattered, she was awake now, she could function. The medical coffin she was in opened up, and Reaper tumbled out landing onto her knees. She clambered up slowly onto her feet, using supports that are available. It was then she noticed her hands, more appropiately her fingers. Her hands had been remade, razor sharp blades extending over the top of her fingers, effectively doubling their length. She took a second to stare at them. Her mind was blank, it couldn't react in horror at the development. The only thing it would process is the effectiveness of the weapons.
Photon infused bladed edges, lethal range close proximity, effective use against lightly armoured enemies.

Reaper took a second to examine her new body as best as she could. She was taller than Alex, leaner as well, as if Alex's muscular build had transferred a little into her height. Her skin was matt black, except for, as she noticed, a pulsing orange flowing were her veins were meant to be. She noticed that she had armoured plates reaching from her feet up to her shoulders and neck, with a few spare gaps were joints connected to not impede movement. Her face remained impassive and relatively unchanged, except for his eyes, which shone with an orange light. Her hair had also changed, the pony tail she had had been changed to some form of Dreadlocks, although even she could tell that it wasn't natural hair that had changed this.

She panned her head around the collective group of people around, her mind just blankly staring at them. She had a flicker of rememberance when she glanced at Sanders, which she offered a gentle nod to the woman. Without conscious thought, she cycled through her various vision modes, testing out her dark vision then her infravision, as well has testing distance sense on the furthest wall. Then peters neural network poppd into her head. She winced, not accustomed to having other people be in her head and shot a look at Peter.
*Get out of my thoughts* she transmitted to Peter, not quite comprehending that he wasn't a mind reader, but using the neural network she was a part off.

After dealing with the other three Iona comes upon Mr. Chen's chamber and sees ... a blur. Human shaped, but a blur. When she reaches out to assist him in exiting the chamber she finds it painful, but not exactly damaging. He's vibrating so fast that his features are difficult to define now. Mr Chen accepts Iona's assistance, but as soon as he moves to sit up under his own power there is a rush of air and he is suddenly on the ground at the base of the Ascension Chamber. Sprawled out. He moves to get up, and in an instant he is across the room with his back facing the group. When Peter speaks over the Network Chen's head tilts to the side as though listening to something.

Though all the other chambers had opened, Colonel Costa's did not. Iona may try to manually open it, but the chamber's lips remains fixed in place. Those nearby can hear a muffled voice from within. Then thumping. Pounding on the interior walls of the coffin-like chamber. While this is going on Dr. Sokolov speaks up before Null can respond to Iona's question about scans.

"Something is happening. Perhaps a side effect of the Ascension process."

With that he gives a flick of his left hand, as though throwing something. In response to this action a pair of holographic screens pop up in the middle of the room. Two overhead images of the wester hemisphere. One showed power distribution. There was none visible. The entire western hemisphere was blacked out. The other image showed a massive storm forming in the central United States. Around Southern Kansas .. and it is heading north. Towards Hadron City.

Null, who had been studying each of the Ascendants as they exited their respective chamber, stopped their gaze on Colonel Costa's. When Skolov brings up the two holographic monitors their attention momentarily shifts to the images before extending a hand to point at the Colonel's chamber. From inside there was still the sound of something repeatedly beating against the chamber walls, and the Colonel's voice raising.

"Get her out of there. Immediately."

Beyond Null and Dr. Sokolov the others stood staring at the sight of the four Ascendants. Universally stunned by the sight. Among them Corporal Sander stood, large brown eyes widen. They were all speechless, but the Corporal was watching all of you carefully. Studying the first actions you took with your newfound power.
OOC wrote:So that you know, you do not have to accept incoming communications from the Network. You will be aware that the sender is trying to communicate with you, and you will know who it is. But you do not have to receive the incoming communication if you do not wish to. If Alex doesn't want to hear Peter, or any of the others, she won't. That simple.

Iona meets the DC of her Physician check, and accomplishes her task without any issue.

Hitori looks entranced at the displays of science and magic, as he can find no better word for what Null was doing. His lifeless eyes focus on what Null was manipulating, but briefly, as soon the show was over and the pods began to open. His team mates were there no more, replaced by creatures even more grotesque than himself. From Diegos pod a creature of misty blackness, from Peters some sort of robot... And from Alex's a black thing, part metal part orange glowing liquid.
Then Mr Chen zoomed out faster even than him! He had little time to react, as Costa began pounding on her pod and soon enough Null issued his first order. Hitori was no slowpoke and in a blink he was next to the pod. His arms, a second before slender and long, turned short and muscular, as he dig into the metal of the pod's lid with his fingers, and then jerked out.

It was another thing which Peter found instinctively he did when confronting the issue of the cocooned Colonel Costa. As Hitori began using his monstrous strength, Peter just knew to focus, and from nothing in his hand appeared a crowbar of solid titanium. Into the cracks created by Hitori, Peter inserted the crowbar's teeth, seeking to provide more space and leverage for his teammate.
Using the Create as a Aid tool, I guess.

Diego Gonzalez
HP: 1
CND: Not quite together
Form: Mist

Given his initial state, Diego didn't think he got strength as one of the gifts of Ascension. The power outage and massive incoming storm, he didn't think was the this second problem either. So instead, he let himself go, so to speak. The physical form that Diego had adopted of his old visage forms into a mist again as he hovers to the medical coffin.

Taking advantage of the tiny air gaps, he peaks his "head" into the contraption. Something was keeping it closed and if he could figure out what or some weak spots he might be able to help the Colonel by relaying any information he could gather. Weary of what would happen if it slammed shut on him, he made sure to not get too far inside. While no structural engineer, his form and vision gave him a unique perspective to be sure.

At the same time, he made sure to reassure Costa in a softer tone of voice that he somehow could copy near perfectly. "Stay strong. We will get you out of here.", is all Diego could muster.

Iona
HP:3
Cnd: Normal

Colonel Costa's desperate cry along with Praetor Null's explicit order prompts a rush of bodies to the Ascension chamber. Iona is already near it when Hitori and several of the newly ascended converge upon it.

The locking mechanism should be checked first, perhaps it was damaged from the intense energy released from the process. Next will be the sealant between the lid and lower bed-chassis.
OOC: This is my roll for Technology. The bonus is +9. Supernaturalist:1D20+10 → 26(16 + 10). So, a 25.

It was because of Iona's administrations that it was disvocered that the Colonel's chamber was not opening. While Peter and Hitori move to apply manual effort to the task she takes the time to get eye level with the mechanisms holding the Ascension chamber closed. There are both mechanical and electromagnetic locks holding the containment unit closed. Securely. Tightly. To such a degree that not even subatomic particles would be able to escape the chamber. It is the electromagnetic portion of the lock that is malfunctioning. The control unit for it has been overloaded, and the EM lock won't disengage, even though external terminal readings from her station said that it had.
OOC wrote:Iona's inspection of the locking mechanism will require a Technology check. As her Technology modifier is +9, the roll's result is a 25. It is enough to get an idea of what is wrong.
Diego, feeling less physically endowed than his peers and still feeling residual impact from his near death experience despite his Ascension, decides to take a look inside the chamber. Perhaps he can confort and steady the Colonel as well. Dispersing into a black cloud of nanites he endeavors to creep into the interior via gaps in the chamber's structure. But he does not find any. Instead, as he tries to breach the chamber Diego is struck by a powerful electric charge.

Hitori and Peter rushed to free Colonel Costa from the confines of the Ascension chamber, urged on by Null's order and the yelling from the Colonel herself. At the same as Diego, or near enough, time Peter and Hitori make contact with the chamber and throw their muscle into their labor. The chamber groans but resists. Then, just as soon as they started to ply their might, an intense electrical surge coming from the Ascension chamber impacts them.
OOC wrote:Right now Nareik is still working on Reaper's sheet. I am not going to let her contribute to any checks at this time, though otherwise you are free to keep posting.

There are no gaps for Diego to get inside and look at Colonel Costa. The chamber is air tight.

The final result on the check to try and brute force the chamber open is not high enough.

When Diego, Hitori and Peter make contact with the Ascension chamber they are struck by an intense electrical surge. You three need to make DC 28 Toughness checks. Supernaturalist, if you think Iona would have touched the chamber during her inspection, she should make a DC 28 Toughness check as well.

Taking damage will trigger Diego's Long Term Wounds Complication. Whatever damage he takes an additional -1 damage resistance (only if he fails the check) and his injuries will not be recovered by his Regeneration. In effect his nanite composition get's overworked/stressed trying to deal with the new injuries on top of the old that they are still trying to process. Should the Complication trigger, Diego will get 1 HP.
Null, seeing what has happened the three try to assist Silvia, turns to face Dr. Sokolov. Fixing them with a steady stare. The doctor, as though feeling the black eyes of Null's mask bore into him, looks up from his screens to peer back at Null.

"Don't look at me like that. This isn't my doing!"

At Sokolov's protest against his involvement in Colonel Costa's distress, the Praetor begins to advance on the battlesuit clad mad scientist.

"Who else doctor? You crafted the instruments. You are the one to administer the procedure."

Well, it seemed he could be hurt and it didn't feel very good. Like air hitting a wall, Diegos "body" spread out and he instinctively pulled himself back. It still stung though and he could feel it in his being as if every particle that made up his cloud moaned in unison. "What was that?", moaned Diego forming a more solid body again as his former visage in a black leather jacket, jeans, and white shirt. h knew better than to tempt fate again by touching the tube.

Null and Sokolov could have their moment, but Diego was going to get results. "We can't let her die in there. She is to important to the cause. If she's touching that thing who knows what she is being exposed to. Anyone able to talk to override the controls and tell it to open?", asks Diego. He looked mainly at the people not named Sokolov and Null. They were going to have it out. He didn't want to get in the middle of it.

This last wound could prove troublesome. So should make for an interesting challenge.

Iona
HP:3
Cnd: Normal
PP:0

The scene is tense. Panic and distrust threatens to make it even worse. Iona's eyes focus on the area where the magnetic lock is located. However, she is bypassed by several well-meaning people desperately trying to help the woman in the chamber.

All of them without exception are greeted with a powerful electric shock followed by the unmistakable smell of ozone. Iona recoils for a second to assess just how powerful the EM lock is before proceeding.

The EM lock is still "on". There is a current running through the magnetic-lock that must be stopped. Unfortunately, it is more powerful than what I'm normally capable of manipulating.

She takes a few more seconds to think of the various possibilities before settling on the course she deems most reasonable.

"I'm going to try to shut the Magnetic Lock down if only temporarily. When I do, you must quickly open the lid and get her out. I shall not be able to stop it for very long."
OOC: Ok, I'm going to have to use Extra Effort to power stunt the effect I want. Normally, my nullify electricity is only a rank 6 effect.
That's not going to cut it here. I'll effectively double the rank to 12 by adding the Flaw: Tiring. If I'm not mistaken this will move me to "Exhausted" after one round instead of merely "Fatigued"; It will then take HPs to keep me going if I need to do it longer.
"'Are you ready!?!" She says with a noticeably raised voice. "NOW!"
OOC: I'm assuming that the effect "hits" since the target cannot move. It's really a question of 'does my effect exceed the DC?'. Here's my roll: Supernaturalist:1D20+12 → 31(19 + 12). Not too bad! A total of 31.
Iona's creator has given her a gift. Though perhaps not intended for a task quite so difficult as the one lying before her. Still, her ability to manipulate voltage fields has many varied affects. One of them is the ability to stop electric charges from flowing through wires altogether. A handy ability for shutting down electrical device like cell phones, laptops, and even larger electrical constructs like cars and motorcycles. But a large power-devouring device drawing energy directly from the grid is well beyond her recommended limits. She has no choice though...or so it seems to her.

She stands facing the Ascension chamber with her hands outstretched. The palms of both her hands begin to glow. Immediately, she can feel the rapid drain of her internal power-generator...even more rapidly than she first thought possible. There is a distinct "CHUNK!" sound as the Magnetic-lock shuts off for a brief moment. She begins to tremble as she grunts to the others, "I'm losing power fast! You must be quick!...I'll not last much longer!"

He shouldnt be so reckless. The electrical surge blasted away Hitoris hands, sending electricity through all of his abominable body. Somehow his new physiology managed to not get instantly fried. Weary of trying again, he remained on edge, until Sokolovs underling did something to the chamber. He wasnt sure what was it that she did, but was consuming the woman just to sustain it. He had to give it another try.
Gritting teeth he no longer had, Hitori once again clamped the chambers door and jerked out to open it.

Once again, instinct took over and suddenly the crowbar was coated in several layers of plastic, blocking off the surge before it could leave more than a temporary shock.

Iona figuring out what happened left a muted sense of embarrassment that he'd rushed in without thinking. With her forcing the lock open, with Null and Sokolov about to come to blows...

"Get her out!" Peter told Reaper and Diego. He turned and extended a hand, focusing again. From the floor, a transparent, but solid wall arose, one to separate each Praetor to contain them from doing anything with lasting consequences. It would at least pause them long enough for the Colonel's rescue to reduce the tension.

More power more mistakes. The two Praetors were at odds, but provoking them was not the answer. With everything else going on, they weren't stupid enough to attack each other. Even after Ascension, it was clear some ground rules would need to be laid down. Peter had made his choice, as foolish as Diego thought it was though. He would need to pay the price or reap the rewards if Diego was wrong.
The below assumes Hitori gets it open. If he doesn't I will edit the post accordingly.
However the futile attempt to separate Null and Sokolov went, Diego had to do something about Costa. She was a valuable ally. Also, he felt a kinship of sorts knowing she went through the same process and became something greater. Waiting for any openning, without getting to close yet, Diego pounced when the medical coffin was openned big enough to pull someone out. He was going to get closer and try to pull Costa out, but instead his body changed again. This time it was more of a black ooze. From the 15 or so feet away, his arms stretched out and doing his best to avoid touching the contraption, Diego wraps them around Costa and tries to pull her out.

Null was a menacing figure, just standing still in a room. Just talking. Feeling their ire upon you as they approached on your person with malicious intent was another matter entirely. Dr. Sokolov's stance became defensive as the masked Praetor drew closer. Then walls appeared between the two of them. Null's took one last step as the walls manifested before them. Turning the black eyes of their now cracked and chipped while Venetian volto mask came to rest on Peter.

In that moment Peter felt a disconnect within himself … and a separation from the other Ascendants. His vision was normal again. There was no more sensory input from the machines around him. Then he felt that internal triggering of his abilities, but not under his own will. First the walls separating Null and Dr. Sokolov dissolved. Then around him black barbed gel formed, wrapped him up like a series of tentacles. Rapidly the gel hardened and the bindings constricted, crushing and piercing him.

"Mr. Ezima, if you ever attempt to hinder me again you will not live to repeat the error. Tell me that you understand this … and your place."

At the Ascension chamber Iona disables the EM lock holding Colonel Costa's chamber closed. On her signal Hitori reaches tough to grasp hold of the lid expecting to get shocked again. He feels a low level electrical current flow through him, but whatever Iona is doing has reduced it to levels that are no longer dangerous. Unhindered now Hitori retches at the lip and with a might heave snaps the mechanical lock. The second the lid is lifted a gust up air rushed out of the chamber, and along with it a scream from the Colonel. The scream dies down, however, and with it the surge of air.

While this initially knocks Hitori and Diego back a few feet, it does not stop Diego from extending his limbs after the rushing air has died down. Coiling his inky blackness around the form of Colonel Costa he find her cool to the touch. Once outside the chamber those looking can see how the military woman has changed. She looks ephemeral. Like a storm contained in the shape of a woman, with fitting curves and bosom. Her eyes … yes eyes … are flashing orb lightning. Though she looks gaseous, like a humanoid storm cloud, Silvia remains physical. As is evident by the fact that Diego is able to wrap his arms around her and lift her out of the Ascension chamber. At the moment she is limp and immobile Pieces of her seem to be missing as well.

Dr. Sokolov, for his part, remained in place, making no effort to interfere. After Null's focus had shifted to Peter, the doctor's moved towards what was happening at the Ascension chamber.

"Get her onto a table. Iona, see what you can find out about her condition while I try to get a grasp on this situation."

With a gesture from his gauntlet clad hand Dr. Sokolov indications the holographic monitors displaying mass power outages and the … still growing … storm aimed straight for Hadron City.
OOC wrote:Null seizes control of Peter's Powers and uses them against him. Peter is rendered Immobile, Defenseless, and takes damage with the result being -1 to damage resistance and the Staggered condition. The damage will have to be recovered without the aid of Regeneration, because his Regeneration is "turned off". Topping this off Peter will not have control of his Powers until Null returns that control to him. If Peter wishes to try to escape his bindings it will require him to use his un-Enhanced (pre-Ascension) Dodge or Strength.

Peter receives 1 HP for this Complication.
