Carman
The rest of the trip Renly is quiet, unless Carman initiates further dialog. The hospital hallway is dark and in the dark it feels cramped with all the debris littering it. There is often something to trip over if one is not careful and straining their vision in the dim light. It is mostly still and silent, which makes the occasional noises that you do hear nerve racking. The sense is that there is a threat around every corner. But nothing come from tension and eventually the two arrive at the cafeteria where you can hear the voice Diego has stolen begin to speak to someone about evacuating in small groups.
OOC wrote:Carman and Renly will arrive at the freezer about the time Diego and presumably Iona are telling their story. I'll give Iona a chance to respond before giving the reaction of the crowd.

Iona
HP: 1
Cnd: Damaged (-2 to EM power-array)
PP:0

Iona turns back to face Peter and the rest of the civilians in the freezer. As she walks back to where Peter and Jacob are, she pulls her tattered hoodie back from her head.

Smiling, she speaks, "Did you here that, Andrew?" Her voice is gentle yet raised so that virtually all in the freezer can here her. "They are going to escort us out in small groups to an evacuation area. Isn't that good news?"

She finally comes to a stop in between Peter and Jacob. She looks down at Jacob's leg before returning her eyes back to his. "Sir, do you need a wheelchair or will you be able to make it out on crutches?"
OOC: I'm not sure if I need a Deception roll or Persuasion roll, but I'm going to include a roll which can be modified either way. Here it is:... a natural 20. Supernaturalist: 1D20 → 20(20). So, if it's a Deception roll, then it's a 28, and if it's a Persuasion roll, it's a 30.

There seems to be a sign of relief from the crowd when it is mentioned that people are going to be taken out of the hospital and to safety. Then Diego start picking he first group to be evacuated. That when the grumblings arise in the tightly packed mass of humanity. The grumblings turn to a chorus of complaints when Iona, smiling, proclaims that she will be one of the first to leave this horrible place. Shouts rise above the masses.

"Why should they get to go first?"

"She looks fine. There are sick and injured people here to need help."

"They just got here. Why should they get to leave first?"

Amidst the agitated assembly of people Jacob, a nurse, actually seems to be trying to give his 'place' away to an old man who is pale and wane. It looks like the elderly man will die regardless, but Jacob is insistent that the older man go ahead of him ... though his voice is half drowned out by all the other raised voices in the freezer.
OOC wrote:Iona will not be getting her Attractive bonus for two reasons, the crowd is a mix of genders and before you went on the mission Iona actively took efforts to tone down her attractiveness.

The initial check is Deception. You're trying to get people to buy into your story. Even without Attractive they believe you. As a result, everyone is upset by Iona and Peter being part of the first group to get taken to safety.

Now comes make a Persuasion to convince them that a healthy woman and her boyfriend who just arrived should get to leave first when there are other people who should realistically take priority in being evacuated.

This was becoming a hassle. No one had seemed to pick up a phone, so for now Diego didn't just kill everyone. "It's still not completely safe out there. We can only guard so many people at a time. The two who just got here can move. I know, I found them. Yes, I know there is people who are sick and injured here in bad shape, but those are the people who will need even more help and maybe even need to be moved on their own.", , says Diego trying to be authoritative yet still compassionate. If not for his voice modulation, the game would have been up. They didn't know how close they were to death because of connivance.

"Please, you need to understand. We need to get out those we can quickly. Its a tough choice I'm sure some of you need to make on a daily basis. Save one person with low chances or save more people with higher chances. It's not an easy decision, but we don't have time to debate it. More help will be coming.", adds Diego for good measure.

In his old life, he would have been more caring and likely had been conflicted by it all. Now, they were variables and variables that didn't matter that much. He could easily slaughter the lot and disguise it as those creatures.

When the complaints arise, she is not wholly surprised. Fortunately, Diego takes the lead as the authority figure and firmly stands his ground. At least he didn't proceed to slaughter everyone. That is a welcome surprise.

Seeking to appease the group to some small degree, Iona looks to Diego. "Officer, Andrew and I could help move this elderly gentlemen. I know that you strongly desire to keep the group small for security reasons, but would we be able to take just one more?"
OOC: I'd like to aid Diego's Persuasion roll with one of my own. I suppose this would be a Team Check. I'm not sure if that's possible, but if so, then here's the roll: Supernaturalist: 1D20+10 → 18(8 + 10). So, a total of 18. I'm not sure what the DC is, so I'm not sure if Diego gets any bonus.

Between Diego's authoritative stance and Iona's efforts to compromise, the crowd gradually calms down. With the old man that Jacob was championing to go ahead of his selected to be part of the group the younger nurse relents as well and acquiesces to leave with Diego, Peter, and Iona. There are still some grumblings as Jacob wheels the old man out of the freezer, but the crowd is no longer in an uproar and those who are grumbling aren't riled up enough to act on their discontent. Words had won the day, for now. The only problem was you had an old man to witness you activities along with Renly. Who, as you turn to depart, you can see standing in the cafeteria with Carman.
OOC wrote:Yes, Iona assisting with a Team Check is acceptable. She added +2 to Diego's roll. Which was just enough to get the group to be accepting of the situation. So it was a good thing she supported him. Even if she complicated things by getting the old man in on the deal.

Inwardly, Peter felt a little relieved. Most likely, something would happen to the old man, but if nothing else Diego had been persuaded to avoid mass murder as an option and stuck with it in spite of initial hiccups. Now that left one last speedbump... which appeared in the form of Renly and Carmen.

*Now we have to make sure Carmen has gotten what she came for, and if not, complete it without raising any inconvenient questions before we make our withdrawal to the basement.* Peter messaged Diego as he took a turn guiding the old man.

Diego didn't care about the extra person. His initial plan was to bring the lot of the survivors and kill all except Jacob later. So, ending an old man or simply leaving him. Renly of course added another kink in the plan, but at this point was easy enough to handle him alone. Carman might react badly, but messing up a plan of Sokolov didn't bother Diego much.
"Now we have to make sure Carmen has gotten what she came for, and if not, complete it without raising any inconvenient questions before we make our withdrawal to the basement.* Peter messaged Diego as he took a turn guiding the old man.
If Renly asks too many questions we handle him as needed. What is a human when alone compared to us? The three of us can dispatch the man quickly if needed. I will try to send you ahead to a near by room that we can drill down into the basement to., replies Diego over the link. of course, the question was would Iona help handle Renly. He was on a mission for her master, so it was a variable he wasn't happy contemplating. Still, the calculated risk had to be taken.

Speaking aloud now, Diego looked to address everyone assembled who was leaving. "Lets roll. Can the three of you help the old man and person in the cast moving? I am going to scout ahead with Andrew to make sure what he saw is still there. If not, we'll need to cancel the evacuation.", inquires Diego looking towards Renly, Iona, Carmen. Whatever the answer, he didn't care. Motioning to Peter, he made for the hallway with the pistol at the ready and let Peter lead to a good place to quickly make a hole.
Perception 12 hopefully there isn't something that could endanger them Diego will miss on the trip

OOC: I'm not sure if the old man is on a stretcher, in a wheelchair, or even in a hospital bed. I'll assume that he's on a stretcher/gurney for posting. If not, I can edit my post.
Iona works with Peter to navigate the old man's stretcher past other patients in the freezer. Once past the doors, Iona adjust the front wheels on the stretcher so that they don't swivel, making it possible to maneuver the gurney by only pushing from the back. Keeping up the ruse, she speaks to Peter. "Go ahead Andrew! You can assist the officer. I can manage the stretcher. This elderly gentleman is easy enough to push."

The young cyborg looks around in order to insure that Jacob is walking along with her. She smiles at him, trying to put him at ease. Speaking softly to him, she leans toward him slightly. "We'll need to be quiet as we move along. I'm sure the area still poses some risk despite the police effort to secure it. I'll be sure to go slowly so that you can keep up. If you need to stop and rest for a moment, then quietly let me know."

Without another word, she pushes the stretcher forward. Allowing Diego and Peter to keep well ahead, she tries to keep them both in her line-of-sight.

As the familiar faces of the other team came into view, she noted the additional bodies. She felt it safe to assume that they had managed to find their target, and certainly hope that was the fact. Sooner they could get out of this mad house, the better.

”Here comes our ride.” She said softly to Alister and approached the group, keeping her posture as friendly as possible, slinging her rifle onto her back.
”Let me help you with that ma’am.”

At seeing Diego, Iona, and Peter depart from the kitchen with the old man in the wheelchair and Jacob in crutches, Renly looks over at Carman. She'd told him there was another team in the hospital and these people were it. He looked dubious.

"They're special ops? Really?"

The axe wielding merc remained stationary, allowing Carman to join up and help move people along , waiting for the group to reach him before he. When Diego and Peter break away, to 'check that the route is secured', Renly follows closely behind them.

Left behind with an old man who can't seem to help but cough every thirty seconds, and Jacob, who was slowed down by needing to use a pair of crutches, Iona and Carman do their best to keep the noncombatants quiet and moving. Jacob offers Iona a weak half smile when she whispers to him. In a lowered voice he speaks.

"This is so messed up. It's good to know we'll be getting out of here though."

The group shuffles on at reasonable, but slow, pace well behind Peter, Diego and Renly as the three men enter the hallway. It's still and quiet. If a mess. Nothing seems to have changed since the last time you were in that same hallway a couple minutes ago.

"This is so messed up. It's good to know we'll be getting out of here though."
The female cyborg returns a half-smile, but says nothing. Firstly, she doesn't want to make any unnecessary noise. And secondly, she is struggling to suppress guilty thoughts about Jacob's eventual fate. And though - deep down inside - she is certain that the importance of The Cause is more important than any one person's life, she cannot easily have polite conversation with an innocent man who she soon plans to murder.

As they proceed down the hallway, Iona's thoughtful mind begins to race. She wonders why this particular man's heart is needed by her client. The thought of obtaining a different heart, perhaps of someone else terminally ill or mortally injured has crossed her mind. But the risk is too great. Neither of the Ascendants would have went for the idea; and if she had ruined this mission, it is doubtful that Dr. Sokolov could save her from the wrath of Praetor Null.

So, here she is. Pushing the body of a frail old man that she must soon abandon, and escorting a man whose heart she intends to remove without replacing.

Why did the Good Doctor create me with the capacity to have such thoughts? Sometimes I wonder if they are not a hindrance.

As Peter led the way, Diego noticed Renly joining them. It didn't make him particularly happy. The mere fact Renly was here though meant he wasn't as tied to the defense of the hospital as the others, which was a good thing. The basement wasn't a good place to be for normal people, so maybe Renly might not even make it. Not by Diegos hand of course. Last thing he needed was another battle over Dr. Sokolov's agenda. This mission was already getting complicated and the big game target was a traitor.

"We will need to watch the hall while Andrew finds where the exit is hidden. Wouldn't want any creature or people hearing the noise coming running.", whispers Diego to Renly. Hopefully Renly wouldn't see any powers used. There had been enough complications.

Turning now to Peter, Diego inquires, in the cops voice of where to go. "Once we get there, how long will it take to find the exit you told me about? After this place, I just want to get out.", whispers Diego. His voice perfectly modulated as best he could hear it.

"Won't be long, officer." Peter replied in the same conversational tone. He turned to one of the side rooms that shouldn't have anyone in it, but still positioned roughly over the area of the basement where their escape tunnel was. " In here. There might be a little rubble covering it, but I'm pretty sure I can remove it."

True meaning: dig the hole open with his molecular manipulation powers.

"You can cut the act around me. I know you aren't a pair of civvies and a cop."

Renly replies briskly in a Southern accent. When Diego asks that the mercenary keep an eye on the hallway with him, Renly is eying Peter. For a moment it seems as though he's going to ignore Diego and follow the bandaged man into the other room. But he doesn't. Instead he turns to monitor the progress of Iona, Carman and the two injured people they were taking along with them. They weren't too far behind.

Peter Ducks into the room he had selected for creating a hole in the floor. Moving furniture and scattered objects aside. Lowering himself ot his knees he presses his fingers into the floor and it gives like wet clay. The flooring moves as he digs his way tediously by hand down to the basement level. The hole he's made is oddly smooth in places. Not broken or jagged as one would expect from something punching through or the floor collapsing under strain.

When he finally breaks through into the muggy darkness of the sublevel an acrid scent rolls up to greet him.

With Diego, Peter, and Renly having stopped at a room for Peter's work the stragglers have time to catch up and it isn't long before they do. While Iona remains silent, struggling with her own inner turmoil, Jacob is not so quiet. Though he talks in a whisper, he still talks. Whether Iona and Carman listened was another matter.

"I'm going to have to check on my mom when we get out of here. Think they'll let me make a call? She must be freaking out. My dad died last month. Cancer. She's been a mess. I don't think she could have taken it if I died in here."
