Diego Gonzalez
HP: 1->0
CND: Haunted, 2 - toughness->1 -1 rolls, -1 toughness
Form: Solid

Diego was dinged. He didn't like the fact a bullet would hurt him in this fragile form he was forced to take. Still, the ever stoic and calculating Ascendant of Deception wasn't about to give away anything when fleeing was so close. "Stop playing games with them and get in the vehicle. We need to get out of here now. If you insist on playing with them do something useful like drop a car in their way or something.", remarks Diego heading to the running SUV and picking up the hand plus the case if needed. Some might be squeamish about a still bleeding separated hand, but Diego didn't have time to properly separate it.

In the back of his mind, he knew that he was going to be punished again. Iona had been forced to go nuclear. Stronghold would now know she was operating in the city and beef up security accordingly. That would doubtless make it more difficult for Praetor Null's other schemes. His one saving grace might be getting the plant back and following up on why the plant was moved. It didn't make sense their covers had been blown. The Stronghold guards didn't stop them immediately. Dr. Sokolovs name was hinted by the cowboy. Maybe Sokolov alerted Stronghold after finding out the plans via a listening device? He hoped there wasn't a leak at the base.
toughness 14 yeah nope
toughness 19
Counting same -2 modifier against the original and the reroll.

Iona kneels amidst the charred, electrocuted, bodies around her. One hand goes to the polycarbonate case while the other extends to a more distant assault rifle. With an application of her magnetic field manipulation module the rifle goes flying at an urban camo clad mercenary. The improvised projectile hits him in his shoulder, causing him to spin to the side and fall out from behind a car he had been hiding behind. For a moment he is still, then slowly he begins moving again, getting back to his crouched posture behind cover.

John hops onto the borrowed motorcycle, with Duncan behind him, and puts on the gas to accelerate away from the ensuing confrontation between transhumans and mercenaries. Rapidly rounding the corner of the Autumn Dawn building the escaping duo come face to face with a flight of two combat drones. Themselves racing towards the confrontation. One of the pair of flying machines peals off, bypassing DUncan and John, while the other pursues the pair on the motorcycle.

Diego and Iona soon see a single drone come winging it's way around the corner that the motorcycle disappeared past. The drone lines up with the front of the SUV. A compartment opens on it's belly and a gun of some sort is deploy. But rather than fire a projectile, a blurry, air-warping wave of energy is blasted from the weapon. At the same time Iona's senses a sudden spike in electromagnetic energy. It's target: the SUV Diego was currently seated in. Though Diego give the SUV some gas and tries to maneuver out of the way, the energy emission hits the front of the vehicle ... and the engine abruptly dies.

Out of sight of Diego and Iona, the John and Duncan experience a similar occurrence. The drone chasing them produces an belly-deployed weapon, which fires off a blurry wave of energy, directed at their vehicle. Though John, making an abrupt sharp turn, manages to evade the assault.
OOC wrote:Diego can take the hand ... if he wants to carry around a severed hand. Otherwise it'll flop to the ground. Iona already took hold of the case. If Iona allows Diego take it, that is fine. But you two need to decide who has the case. For now, I am treating it as though Iona has it.

Iona hits the Soldier, but he takes it and keeps going.

Two Drones arrive on scene. One attacks the Motorcycle and misses. The other attacks the SUV, disabling it.

Since Diego is in cover, the Soldiers focus fire on Iona while she is in the open. Pairing up again, with three Attacks, and three Aid Actions. All of which miss her.

John is up. Remember, you need to use one Move Action each round to drive the motorcycle in addition to anything else John does. Make a Perception check.

If you plan to race around, and not go with normal driving habits, you will be needing to make Vehicle checks. The DC will depend on what you are trying to do, and current circumstances (ex: trying to pull off high speed maneuvers while in the midst of traffic).

Iona hears John peel out on the motorcycle as she watches her magnetically-assisted projectile graze the Stronghold mercenary. With the specimen case firmly in hand, she turns her head just in time to see the drone send an EMP through the van, stalling it instantaneously.

Unlike the last mission, the young cyborg is determined to stay on the offensive. Her feet levitate off the ground a couple of feet as she primes herself to accelerate to top speed. But just before she does, a thick, white bolt of static discharge flickers in the space between her hand and the flying drone.
OOC: Iona will use her Ranged Electricity Damage 12 Attack before taking her Movement action. With a rank 6 in Flight, I believe she can move 600 yards on her Movement action. She would like to stay about 4 feet off the ground and use the SUV as cover as she moves away from the soldiers behind her. Here's her Attack Roll on the Drone: Supernaturalist: D20 + 8 → 20( (12) + 8). So, a total of 20. Iona will fly in the direction that John is headed.
Perception roll to notice the Stronghold vehicle: Supernaturalist: D20 + 10 → 13( (3) + 10). Booooo!....I failed it....a 13.

OOC: Here's the Perception check you requested of John: Supernaturalist: D20 + 8 → 18( (10) + 8). Sa total of 18. John will attempt to drive as fast as possible. He will also try to keep objects between the cycle and the drone when possible, weaving between objects when it's reasonably safe to do so. He will not try to do any maneuvers which entail a substantial risk, like jumping objects, popping wheelies, or taking abnormally sharp turns. If you still want a driving roll I can give you one, but John is not trained in motorcycles. He would not get his DEX since Vehicle skills require training, right?
"Hold on tight!" John knows that he's already warned Duncan, but he does it again just for safe measure. Hunched down over the motorcycle in an attempt to create as small a profile as possible, the anxious soldier accelerates the vehicle as fast as he can reasonably handle. Driving between cars, light posts, mailboxes, and any other object he thinks can shield him from the pursuing drone.
OOC: John does not have a fantastic knowledge of Hadron City, so it would be risky to take a path that is too circuitous. He'd probably end up getting lost. He'll try to weave his way out onto the street and between cars to the nearest alley. The optimal solution is to lose the drone. BUT If he feels he can't shake the drone (and it is closing on him), then he'll stear the cycle into an alley, draw his pistol, and try to shoot it when it rounds the corner.

Wheeling away from the Drone the motorcycle tips and nearly falls over in sharp turn. John quickly braces with his foot and pushed the bike vertical before carefully driving through the car scattered Autumn Dawn parkinglot. His inexperience with tactical maneuvering on such vehicles forces him to be extra cautious. Despite this, the motorcycle is faster than the drone and John is able to gain ground on it. Unfortunately he has to stop short of entering traffic and wait for time to enter the flow of vehicles, which allows the Drone to catch up with him.

It is during this momentary pause that John chances to look down the road, away from the checkpoint. Flashing red-and-blue light catch his eye. They're attached to what looks like a militarized sports car with external armored reinforcements and a section of open roof where a heavy machinegun is mounted, accompanied by a dedicated gunner. The Stronghold chase vehicle is speeding towards him, expertly slipping through traffic as vehicles move to the side of the road so it can pass.
OOC wrote:Unable to move at full speed, John needs to be careful about not hitting parked cars, or getting hit while entering traffic. All this slows him down and prevents him from taking more risky maneuvers. As a result he is only at the edge of the parklinglot, ready to enter traffic/cross the street.

The Stronghold Chase Vehicle arrives on the scene. It will be able to engage John and Duncan next round. Right now John is the only one aware. Duncan can make a Perception check, DC 15, on his turn to notice it. Anyone heading towards the front parkinglot may do likewise.

Diego, Duncan and Iona may act now. I will hold off on narrating the results of Iona's Actions until after I know where she is heading, and the gentlemen have posted.

Iona was going to need to be taught moderation. First, she under does her powers. Now she is going full blown hyper extreme Iron Man like danger to Stronghold. With any luck, Stronghold would think it a super suit or something of that like instead of a full blown robot that has advanced AI. Diego was already spinning in his head how to shift Iona as some sort of super tech left behind that Stronghold couldn't get pillage. That truth was less terrifying than what Praetor Null had spawned as his Ascendants. His next debrief was going to be brutal like pretty much all of them. The more lessons learned he could convey and solutions, the more mitigation of pain maybe.

With everyone else gone, he had no reason to be hanging about a dead vehicle. Iona's flight powers were out of the bag now. John was speeding away with Duncan who was a burden at this point. So, Diego decided to slip away as well. His native form was a perfect fit for night time operations and he didn't even need to worry about smoke grenades or a gun for that matter. They would just slow him down.

Ensuring he was still covered enough by darkness and tinted windows, Diego shifts into his native form. It was so freeing. Spotting a path through the parking lot was a simple enough task for the Ascendant as well. He lacked situational awareness. That would need to be remedied once he could get free of the watchful eye of Stronghold. To this end, he weaved a path through the darkness to get a better vantage point while still remaining concealed in his native shadows.
Two rounds of flight 3(250 feet, 16 mph) while staying in the darkness for concealment.
Without metagaming, not much more he can do.

Spotting the chase car as he held on for dear life, Duncan saw his body work on it's own again as he practically yelled at John
"Let me know when your taking the next turn, i've got an idea that might lose one of out tails...."
Stuffing his mouth full of Labcoat, the Botanist wait's for his chance to remove a tail...
OOC: Ok, first the perception check....
Perception check: 17+3=20--It's dirty, but it's still a 20! :D
I'll use the Aid Action to help John's Dodge/Parry and hopefully get rid of at least one of our pursers...

Behind the Autumn Dawn building Iona projects a lance of coherent electrify into the drone that had disabled the SUV she had planned to escape in with Diego. The electric arc burrows into the drone's nose, material pealing off of it, until the arc hits what must have been it's fuel source. At that point the drone explodes in a fantastic orange fireball.

After enacting her attack Iona lifts off the group and flies off around the corner of the building and enter the front parkinglot where she employs the immobile and unoccupied vehicles as cover on her way towards Duncan and John.

Diego, for his part, doesn't bother attacking. Instead he melts into the darkness and follows in the wake of his retreating allies. His passage silent and unseen by those around him. To friend and foe alike, he may as well not even be there.

In the front of the Autumn Dawn building, pedestrians and people inside the building itself are stopping what they are doing to watch the scene play out. Iona, a flying woman, enters the area in time to see the drone chasing Duncan and John sweep in low for an attack. As it does Duncan throws up his lab coat. While the coat falls short of hitting the drone, it enters it's field of vision, obscuring it's line of sight with the motorcycle and their riders. John is able to use this as an opportunity to send the motorcycle into flow of traffic as an opening presents itself just in time. The burst of air-rippling electromagnetic energy washes over empty air.
OOC wrote:Iona Attacks, hits, and destroys a Drone.

Diego ... disappears. As far as everyone else can tell. Diego is about where Iona is, as far as distance traveled towards Duncan and John.

Since you are all out of sight of them, you don't know what the Soldiers are doing.

The remaining drone goes in to Attack John's motorcycle. At this point Duncan's Readied Aid Action triggers. To save time I am making the roll for you: Aid Johns Defense DC 10: 1D20 = [10] = 10. That is just enough for John to get +2 to his Defense versus this Drone. I will extend that to the motorcycle's Defense as well, in the event it is targeted.

Now, after Duncan's Aid comes into play, the Drone Attacks the motorcycle with an EMP. It misses.

John is up.

When John sees the open roof and machine gun on the armored car, he knows that he does not need to close distance with the vehicle if at all possible. He looks for any turn lane, alley, or intersection his side of the street first.
OOC: Only if one is not available does he look for one on the opposite side of the street - across traffic.
I gotta break that gunner's line-of-sight now.
OOC: As long as it's not outrageously dangerous, John will try to break the line of site to the gunner a.s.a.p. by taking a detour. Do I need any kind of roll to do this? I'm going to provide you with one just in case you do need it, but it will not have any modifier on it. You can add whatever bonus/penalty is appropriate. Here's the roll: Supernaturalist: D20 → 7( (7) ). So, a 7. That probably won't do much.

Peering into a handlebar mounted rearview mirror and sees the Stronghold armored, and armed, pursuit car speeding towards him like death on his white horse. In an effort to get clear of the big vehicle mounted machine gun, he looks for an opportunity to change lanes, then turns into an alley way. Hoping to break line of sight. The bikes twin tires splash in a gorse oily puddle, splashing up onto his and Duncan's legs. The streetlights behind you now darkness closes in on your left and right. Ahead of you, beyond the narrow passage of the alley, is another street. It looks to be one way, and heading in the opposite direction.

Out on the main street Iona sees the modified sports car race along, cutting through traffic as cars pull out of it's way. No one wants to get between Stronghold and their target. Not everyone reacts fast enough, but the driver expertly weave around these stragglers. It isn't long before chase car lines up with the alley they John and Duncan had retreated into. The gunner turns, bringing the heavy machine gun to bear, and the weapon roars, the muzzle flashing yellow light as it belts out rounds down after the pair on the motorcycle.
OOC wrote:John cannot make Vehicle checks for driving a motorcycle. They automatically fail. He is doing routine driving only. The Chase Vehicle will be able to catch him. He will not be able to loose it, or avoid a "weapons lock". There is no getting around that relying on your non-existent Skill in driving motorcycles. You'll have to get creative, or trust in your allies to have your back.

The Chase Vehicle's Gunner opens fire on John's motorcycle and will hit. If the bike is trashed, John and Duncan will end up taking damage from the crash. Or at least have to make checks

Because this endangers Duncan, I will allow Iona (at the cost of a Move Action, do so she will only have a Standard Action on her turn) to get in the way and take the hit. It is a DC 21 Toughness check. She will not get a HP for this, as you are only going to benefit from the "Protect Duncan" Complication once per scene.

After the Gunner fires at John's motorcycle we are back to Diego, Duncan, and Iona.

Diego knew he had to move fast. He wasn't quick enough in his native form to catchup with vehicles, but if they were delayed he may stand a chance. Iona was painting a huge target on her back that would cause all sorts of headaches down the road. For now, it was very helpful.

Keeping to the dark or shadowy spots, Diego did his best to follow the route he thought John would take out. When he caught sight of the chase vehicle, it didn't look good. In the grand scheme of things, John and Duncan dying allowed Iona to take off with the plant and Diego to escape. There would be some favours owed to Tilly's friend, but that couldn't be avoided now anyway. Chen might not be the happiest though, which did make John a bit less dispensable. Duncan dying wasn't such a major deal. The plant would get worked anyway. Besides, Duncan was now going to be bound to the base, so he wasn't going to have much of a life anyway.

Chen's unhappiness was the tipping point. Diego had to find where John was and figure a way to help him evade capture. Taking out the chase vehicle was one option, but it left the drone in the air. Regardless, Diego had to catch up. So, he moved through the shadows as quickly as he could without being seen and tried to get a lock on John hopefully getting right next to or under the chase vehicle.
Its two moves it sounds like to stay even close. So, two moves.
Perception 29, factoring in the -2. Maybe a 20 didn't go to waste if Diego sees anything useful.

Iona
HP: 2
Cnd: Bruised (-2 to DCs)
PP:0

OOC: Here is Iona's Toughness check against the machine gun damage: Supernaturalist: D20 + 11 → 27( (16) + 11). So, a 27 total. The DC is 21, so she succeeds.
Racing through the air at over 100 miles-per-hour, the female cyborg finally spots the flashing lights on the Stronghold pursuit vehicle. Up ahead, she sees John's futile attempt to outrun the mercenary car. When the motorcycle veers off into a dimly lit alley, Iona rushes to place herself between her teammates and the enemy gunner, now leveling his weapon at the two men on the motorcycle.

The Stronghold soldier, though amazed to see a flying female plop herself right in front of his target, doesn't hesitate to squeeze off a burst of rounds. Holes appear in her clothing, but the bullets strike her super-science "skeleton" instead of the more vulnerable components of her body. The rounds bounce off her sternum, collarbone, and forehead, leaving holes in the the dermis, but no real damage to speak of.

Without any expression of emotion, the young cyborg stretches out a hand towards the car.
OOC: Iona will attempt to use her Move Object power to lift the car off the ground, flipping the car upside down with the machine gun pointing backwards (away from John, Duncan and Iona). Hopefully the fact that the power is "Precise" will allow her to do so. She'll then sit the car back down in the street on its roof with the bottom facing up. Do I need to give you an Attack roll?
OOC: Here's the Attack roll for the Move Object power on the vehicle: Supernaturalist: D20 + 8 → 16( (8) + 8). So, a total of 16.[/quote

OOC: Here's Iona's Toughness Check versus the Drone's attack: Supernaturalist: D20 + 11 → 19( (8) + 11). So, a 19. A failure of one degree. She is now -2 to Damage Checks.

Iona flies over cars and the heads of pedestrians and comes suddenly down in the path of the high caliber rounds blazing at Duncan and John. Red dots of synthetic blood well up wherever she is hit as her dermis in punctured. The damage is only superficial, but the clothes she borrowed from Tilly are ruined.

Intending to put a stop to the chase then and there Iona reached out her hand towards the armored sports car. The air blurs between herself and her target. Seeing the oncoming wave of magnetic force the vehicles driver suddenly accelerated, then performs a sharp turn to avoid the magnetic grapple that had been coming their way. The maneuver sends the car swinging in a tight arc.

Right on Iona's tail is the combat drone that had been pursuing Duncan and John. Softly it's engines hum as it swoops by her. In contrast there is a loud belch from it's machine gun which sprays bullets over Iona's body. It doesn't stop, however, continuing after the pair on the motorcycle.

Struggling to keep up and remain hidden at the same time Diego arrives at the front of the Autumn Dawn building in time to see Duncan and John's flight, while Iona fights to fend off their attackers chasing them into the alley. It is just as he makes his way to the edge of the parking lot closest to his companions that Diego notices a trio of civilian cars come racing in his wake. Each one has a camo clad Stronghold mercenary setup in the passenger seat with their assault rifle ready to fire.
OOC wrote:Diego gets into position to see the chase.

The Drone opens fire on Iona. It hits. Make a DC 22 Toughness check.

Diego is able to see three mismatched cars heading towards Iona from the back of the Autumn Dawn building. Each one has a Stronghold mercenary with an assault rifle poking out of the passenger window. Now he knows what the six soldiers were up. They were "confiscating" cars so that they could give chase.

Until I get clarification I am going to assume Duncan is repeating his previous Readied Action.
