John sees possibilities for a viable extraction route after gazing at his maps for awhile. He'll have to bring his ideas up during the next pre-mission meeting. If his group were to take a small change of clothes, they could stash these items in a pre-determined place within of the nearby buildings before proceeding to the Autumn Dawn facility. Hopefully the mission would go off without incident. If not, then a large smoke screen could get them to one of the larger nearby buildings where they could hurriedly change clothing and then "leap-frog" from building to building until they got further away.

He is concerned that the alleyway doors between buildings will be locked. They will either have to be rapidly picked, quietly breached, or avoided in favor of entering these buildings through a main entrance. All of this was food for thought, and occupies John's time until the group meets again.
OOC: Here's John's Demolition roll to Aid Iona's creation of the cannister-concealed smoke-grenades: Supernaturalist: 1D20+7 → 13( (6) + 7). So, a 13 total.

Iona parts ways with Dr. Applegate, who seems relieved when Iona begins to leave. Moving between the base' workshop and her own laboritory Iona gets to work crafting a suitable container. Mixing some condensed liquid fertilizers with mineral water, then putting it into a spray dispenser isn't a very taxing endeavor for Iona's intellect. It eats into her time, however. Time she could have spent creating additional smoke grenades for John's plan to cover your escape in the even of a loud extraction from the Autumn Dawn building.
OOC wrote:Making the fertilizer spray with fertilizer you already have isn't hard. There are all kinds on the market already. It just takes time. Do you still want to create the grenades? Given the time Iona used up, I'm going to cut the potential number she'd be able to make down to three, max.

You still need to make a Technology roll for the grenades. John may assist with Demolition.

Praetor Null had given them a base and personnel. While Diego didn't like being such a position, his preference being to work in the shadows through manipulation and deception, it was what it was. For too long, Diego had ignored the duties of his role. In between going over key personnel records and planting the seeds for a network, he swung by Ionas work area. She was putting far too much work into the fake props, but they were at least towards grenades to provide cover.

In is native form, Diego hovered over to Iona examining the plans. So far, their plans were fairly solid. He wanted to avoid a mistake now. "Ensure they resemble the sort of canister any spray might come in. Since we are attempting to pass them off as potential product, make them green and little longer. Triggering them should be as simple as pulling a hidden pin and tossing them.", advised Diego.

Instead of getting into another drawn out discussion later, Diego made his findings previously known now."When we get there, we will need an escort after getting the badges, likely Duncan. Do not ask to meet the head scientist or any key people. One of the guards informed me that would be an ill advised move. Instead, let me do the talking.", says Diego before departing. He wasn't interested in debating the point.

Before resuming his base research and seed plating he swung by Tilly to see if she could arrange some more transportation.

Iona's work doesn't leave her with any free time over the next day for personal projects. Diego comes in about the time she has finished creating the grenades and has begun to work on the more superficial aspects of the disguise. Between the two of you you create the reasonable illusion of spray canisters. It is when Diego and Iona have wrapped up their work and are beginning to consider what to do next that they receive a distressed Dr. Applegate arrives at the lab. When allowed inside she bursts she unloads her message on you in one burst of words.

"Duncan called me. He said that they're moving the Viridi Mater out of the city. Today! In under an hour."

"Pack what you can, we are leaving now.", says Diego to Iona briefly not bothering to turn back to a human looking form in front of Dr. Applegate. His tone is also back in his native emotionless voice. His words were spoken with a cadence of urgency and veiled threat for not following them. He doesn't bother with Iona responding.

Before departing the room, Diego turns to Dr. Applegate. "Find John and tell him we are leaving now. I need to ensure we have transport.", orders Diego in the same do it right now cadence. It wasn't one of panic or worry so much as a general who takes charge in time of an emergency. Similar to Iona, he doesn't wait for Dr. Applegate to respond. Somehow she got a signal and he would need to follow up on that later.

Inquiring with various base personnel, Diego flies with haste to Tilly and requests she prepare to depart immediately. Briefly filling her in on the situation. Noticeably, he doesn't switch to a human visage or attempt to be nice about it. He knew what was at stake for the vehicle owner, but an army of 50,000 thousand meat shields at the very least was at stake.

Once out of the base, near the departure spot, Diego got out of sight and switched to a human form firing off a text to Duncan. On our way now. Can't wait to catch up., texts Diego with a smiley face emoji.

Surprised by the sudden situational change, Iona stands wide eyed. Both the coincidence of the algae's transportation and Diego snapping into action with orders leaves her momentarily befuddled. But she does not say a word. After Diego and Dr. Applegate depart, the young cyborg quickly decides which equipment and accessories are needed.

Obviously the smoke cannisters should come along, they are already prepared. There's no time to put on an intricate disguise. I'll have to simply cover my face with a light scarf and a winter hat.
OOC: Since it's March in Kansas, I'll assume it's still Winter (or very early Spring). Therefore wearing a cold-weather face-covering won't be weird.
Iona takes only a few moments to change from her lab clothing to more winter suitable attire. Jeans, sneakers, a sweater, scarf, coat, and a hat made of artificial-fur. She picks up the small metal case containing the smoke grenades (and fertilizer) and heads off to meet Diego and the rest of the "crew".

On her walk down the hallway, she cannot help but dwell on the eerie timing of the sample being moved. Has someone been tipped off? Did Duncan blab? Her group was so close to mission launch. Why did it happen now?

John had just finished formulating the last elements of his extraction plan when a junior researcher from Dr. Applegate's lab informs him of the present situation and the Dark Ascendant's change of plans. He recalls an adage that he learned in Advanced Infantry Training School. Plans are a waste of time, but planning is invaluable.

There is little time to waste, but John needs information. He remains in his "civilian clothes" with beanie, sunglasses, and a heavy winter coat on for good measure. Inside the coat's interior pockets, he carries his SIG P320 light pistol and suppressor as well as his combat knife. He wasn't sure about how "heavy" he would need to go, and although he typically preferred to err on the side of being well-armed, he knew of the Dark Ascendant's preference for subtlety.

As he quickly strides off to meet with the group, he has time to think. Perhaps that's not a good thing. His paranoid nature begins to dwell on the decision by the powers-that-be to move the Viridi Mater specimen so close to the time of his own faction's mission to steal it. So many different thoughts are racing through his brain, but his main concern falls back to his own safety.

He is a mercenary at heart. And while he has thrown his lot in with the Imperator's forces at present as a soldier of fortune, he has survived this far by being extremely cautious at picking fights. If Stronghold or the Autumn Dawn corporation have been tipped off, then the transport group will be heavily protected. I hope we have a good plan for approaching this new situation.

Gear up, disguises hastily tossed together, and primed for deployment you set out. Fortunately Tilly had secured your second motorcycle ahead of time. You already have your route to the operation site planned out and not enough time has passed for any significant changes in Stronghold movements to that major changes would be needed. Tension builds and questions mount as you travel to Ward 8. Time is short. By the time you arrived in the Ward and settle into the alley way snuggled between a restaurant and, in stark contrast, a skyscraper repurposed as a office building, half an hour has gone by. Only fifteen minutes remain before the Viridi Mater is to be shipped out.

Upon arrival on the bikes Tilly had acquired and Diego knew she would have ready, he made sure there was no eyes on him and shifted into a generic looking late 20 year old white man in business casual attire. Nothing out of place or that would stick out given the area. Just another guy from the Northeast trying to make it like any good carpetbagger would after the fall of Imperator. "We have fifteen minutes. Getting visitor passes and doing the job as we planned it won't work.", begins Diego once he feels confident there is no one listening.

"If we can get into the building quick enough, depending on the details of the transport, we might be able to intercept the package during packing by replacing whoever is going to pack it. A simple switch. Given the classification of it, I am uncertain of the level of security. If we are unable...", starts Diego before looking around again. Everything was already going sideways. No need to add to it.

If he felt confident again in some semblance of privacy, he looked back at the others. "We may need to reroute the transport to a location we can acquire the package. For this, we will need eyes outside.", says Diego looking at John to indicate his role. "If it looks like we are too late, we'll need to find a way to stall the transport to allow me to get into the driver seat.", adds Diego towards John without saying his name.

Factoring in time constraints, Diego sends out another text to Duncan, Coming in very soon. Hope you are ready.. Looking at the others Diego gives a minute for them to chime in. His look is calculated as if to convey the short time they have so each word was precious.

John takes in all the changes. He isn't sure how all this happened, but it doesn't matter. This new mission is a go; and improvisation must occur.
OOC: Do we have commlinks? I know the group had them last mission, but I didn't want to assume. Since Diego asked John to be the "eyes outside", I assume we must have someway to communicate.
Speaking to the Ascendant, John adjusts himself on the seat of his motorcycle. "If the package is already on the transport, then just notify me. If I know the route that the truck is taking, I can get ahead of it and determine a location best suited for our "hold up". I hope we can get the package before then though. Once they are on the road with it, this whole mission gets a lot harder to pull off with delicacy. Do we know where the transport is being loaded? I bet the facility has a loading zone in the rear."

The young cyborg listens quietly. Leaning forward, she pulls the scarf down from her mouth so that everyone near her can hear. "If it does come down to the fact we're too late, and that the sample is already on the transport, then I could cause the truck to stall...somewhere. Normally, the use of such a power is noticeable by those around. But with focus and willpower on my part, it is possible to cause the trucks electrical systems to falter without it being easily seen or heard. Hopefully it will not come to that, but we are not without hope if algae is already en route."
OOC: what I'm thinking of here is power stunting my Shutdown power to make it Subtle. I don't think Sakuro would allow a Subtle 2 or would you? :)

"All I know is it is on the move. Same as you. Hopefully our contact can fill up in a little more. Did you bring a phone with you? They aren't safe, but simple messages not giving too much away should suffice.", says Diego looking at John.

Not pausing for a moment, Diego keeps up his planning rhythm like it's a dance he's having to improve. "If we can get to where it is loaded in time, it might be worth it to stall the truck regardless if it is safe to do so away from prying eyes.", responds Diego with a tone that indicates he starting to acknowledge Iona as useful. It's far short of good idea, but also not exasperated tolerance.

Looking at Tilly, John, and Iona, Diego recaps the plan one more time if no one gives anything to pause and think about he will start heading over to the building. "The two of us will go in after getting passes. You will wait out here to keep an eye on the perimeter with her.", start Diego eyeing Iona for the first part and Tilly and John for the second. "We try to get the package as it is being moved for transport or earlier. Short of that, we need to stall the vehicle somewhere and get what we need. Be prepared for anything. The package isn't your run of the mill plant.", finishes Diego.

Once Iona dismounts from the motorcycle Tilly puts her Ninja's kickstand down and slides off of the vehicles. Taking the android's helmet, he then remises her own and stows the both on the bike. Her's on a handle bar, Iona's in a seat compartment. While DIego, John and Iona hash out the last minute alterations to the plan, the Corporal was looking past the alley way, into the streets and beyond. Her stand and demeanor remained relaxed. Casual. But her big brown eyes were focused and alert.

"You were having trouble plannng how to get to the thirtieth floor. Seems like someone did us a favor."

There is a brief pause, and now she finally brings her eyes to the others around her.

"You might end up burning Duncan, if you aren't careful. Keep that in mind. I'm good to go though."

From his line of work, Diego knew the risk of burning assets as well as anyone. It was why he was so hesitant previously use Duncan as the escort. Not because of some compassion for the man. Duncan could be killed randomly and Diego would simply note it down as a lost possible inside man. Even in his current state of being, he still held some sentimentality of not burning an asset while you are using them. It was unprofessional. "Hopefully we can pull it off without being traced to Duncan too much if any. My gifts should be able to help with that.", remarks Diego as a form of acknowledgement.

After the Dark Ascendant gives John the order to remain with Corporal Sander, he simply responds with a "Yes, Sir."
OOC: John DID assume that we would have to keep in contact with one another someway, whether that be commlink or burner phone. If Diego wants to use phones, then that's fine by John. I'll just assume that is the choice method of communication. If I have to spend a HP to have one then I shall.
Looking to the disguised cyborg, John eyes the metal case at her side. "Miss Iona, you wouldn't be able to spare a couple of those smoke grenades would you? If I have to race ahead of the truck and get it to stop, then those might come in handy. If drivers in Kansas are anywhere near as bad as they are in Washington, some smoke on the highway can bring traffic to a crawl."
OOC: Iona will give him two of the disguised smoke cannisters. I'll note this in her post as well. I'll also assume that Iona has instructed everyone on how to "prime" the grenade for activation.
After Diego and Iona depart for the building, John stands with Tilly near the opening of the narrow alleyway. "Corporal, would you like to take one of these just in case? They're simple to use. Just rotate the spray nozzle two full times then press it down. The smoke grenade is primed and will activate in 3 seconds. They may be useful and may not, but better safe than sorry."
