Like out of an horror film, the old man Hitori was disguised as jumped to the wall, his hands clasping at the sleek surface like spider legs. He quickly covers the distance to the bottom of the stairs and then jumps to the ground, avoiding the electrified steel.
He stands at the ready next to Diego

Diego open's the door wide, and as he does so lets go of his solidity, dispursing into a dark cloud. This is fortunate, because he is almost immediately met with a hail of gunfire. THe door opens up into a ten foot passage which leads into a large circular room over a hundred feet wide. In the distance you can see people in rough kevlar armor atop simple garb in the vein of jeans and shirts. While they were armed with military grade weapons and moved as a coordinated unit, they were not dressed as one with uniforms and insignia. Directly across from the door a pair of machinegun emplacements had been quickly set up with belt fed high caliber guns boasting both gunner and ammo loaders. From somewhere above you can hear the bang-bang of rapid footfalls on metal railing or scaffolding that you cannot see from your present angle.

Straight ahead, past the gun emplacements, is a and indention in the wall that leads to a door, and off to the right and left of the circular room are two more such indentions with similar doors. Diego can feel a pull towards the left route.
OOC wrote:We will be entering Mass Combat now, as Hitori and Diego engage with the facilities' armed Forces. Hitori and Diego are superhumans in a world that can count the number of superhumans present on both hands. Individual soldiers are inconsequential against them at this point. Minions account for elite individuals. Heroic NPCs are exceptional even among the setting's elites.

For this combat scenario we are in Battlefield Rounds, which account for one minute (rather than six seconds) worth of activity for each round.

Damage effects do damage against the Force as a whole, even if the effect does not normally have an area. The wielder is assumed to be making multiple attacks with that power during the battle round. Damaging effects with the Area extra inflict +2 damage to a Force, with each additional Area rank increasing this bonus by +1.

Non-damaging powers that do not normally affect an area have a negligible effect on a Force in battle. The character can only use such powers if they have the sufficient Area ranks to encompass the entire Force.

Freed of the bounds of a solid form, Diego felt more free as his clothes fell away to the the floor. No matter though. He was already planning on using the clothes of whoever was int he farmhouse plus their identity if they were still there when this fight was said and done. Feeling the bullets fly through him felt like nothing at all. It must have been how the felt when people drove quickly through it.

Given the number of troops and the weapons, Diego wasn't too worried. While they could be overwhelming, he saw how Imperator plowed through regular soldiers. Hitori and him were no Imperators, but they weren't regular anymore either. It was that clanking that worried him a bit. The possibility of battle suit armour down here could shift this to a more fair fight that Diego wasn't eager to engage. Even if Hitori took damage, there was more than enough to keep him fed and healed up. So, Diego eyed the pull of Colonel Costa's direction.

"Enjoy the buffet. I am going to press forward with the object. Yell if you need help. Also, try to keep three or four alive. I want to know who they work for and how to disable these traps.", says Diego in a monotone voice devoid of any emotion. Freed of any limitations such as running through people, Diego effortlessly floated above the soldiers and eyed any dark or shadowy places he could try to blend in with as he moved. Getting as close as he can, hopefully hidden, he examines the door that he is being pulled towards.

Hitori grinned, "Yes, go ahead, I will handle this." After that he run, then jumped, then rolled, then run on the wall, dodging the attacks of the small army. He carefully positioned himself in the middle of the strike force to try something. He had pulled something dark from the macro virus a moment before, something hungry of life. He tapped into that essence once more, concentrating once again on his hand. Only this time he closed his fist, letting the energy expand rather than concentrate on a blade like line. The surge of anti-life swept the soldiers, sapping their strength.

Unfire follows Diego as he moves to hide amongst the shadows. Then he vanishes from sight and the people attacking loose track of his movements. From then on Diego is able to slips from one patch of darkness to another, weaking his way up to the left door. During his travel time Diego is able to get a look overhead. He can see that the room is one large cylinder, extending upwards to just shy of the surface. Along the perimeter of the room are metal stairs leading into walkways that curl along the wall at every floor.

The door in front of Diego is metal, but unlike the ones that he has already encountered here, it is not airtight. There are cracks along tops, base, and sides. To the side there is an electronics numerical keypad. When he draws near to it, little more than an inch away from the door, he feels no electrical current like he had the two that were trapped.

Heavy machine guns blast away at Hitori, following just a hair behind him as he leaps, dodges, and crawls along surfaces no human was meant to. Men and women with fully automatic shotguns boasting large circular magazines and people with assault rifles unload on him. But Hitori evades this bullet storm. Then, amidst the fray he calls on his Macro-Viral nature as get does so, his human façade melts away and his monstrous nature is revealed to those around him. Cries of horror and fear go up, amongst the enemy, but shouts and commands from authority figures rally the enemy and they hold fast. Then Hitori unleashes the wave of anti-life in the area around him. Some people give pause, others seek cover, but the enemy combatants as a group remain unhindered.

Hitori is up. I'll treat your previous post as descriptive flavor, and not Hitori's actual action for the round. See my comments in the OOC. Also bear in mind that shifting his array around causes Hitori to drop his Morphed disguise.

I am going to make you an offer Camus. I will give you 1 HP now (a surge of viral power). If you accept this something bad will happen later, but it will add to the narrative.

This was all a new experience for Diego. Ordinarily, when confronted by a small army of unknown allegiance on his own he would try to run and hide. As the bullets went through him, he didn't seem to worry. Praetor Null and the gifts bestowed upon him made him a completely new person...no thing... and he was feeling its power in full now. Once he effectively vanished into the darkness, it hit him even more. While he had hoped to sneak by mostly unseen in the shadows he didn't expect to vanish from all sight to the point of being effectively impossible to see.

Free of the worry of bullets, he got the full scope of where he was. Part of him didn't believe it. Maybe it was an undercover bunker or some abandoned base that had been taken over as a secure storage facility. Diego wasn't privy to all the bases, so it was entirely possible. Either way, hopefully Peter would have some idea from his research. Right now, Diego had to focus on the task at hand and getting to the gem. They were a team, he had to trust them to do their job.

Getting into the area behind the door was hopefully not going to be as hard as getting to the small army. Luck was on his side this time. While he never tried it, he imagined that he might be able to sneak through the door like air. Getting out with the gem would be another matter entirely. By the time Diego had the gem, Hitori should be feasting or at the very least having satiated his lust for combat if all went as planned.

Eyeing the door and paying particular attention to the way it opens, Diego looks for a place where it can't slam into him, preferably the top and pokes his "head" past the door trying to keep in its shadow as much as he can to plan his next move.
Action wise, he is going to go through the cracks at the top so long as its not a sliding door type thing that slides up. Otherwise, he would go in the crack that looks the safest.

OOC wrote:We are not going play out Diego going through each section of this structure. That would be tedious and boring as Diego can avoid mundane dangers without any difficulty. Diego is also able to home in on the direction he needs to go, even if he does not have a layout of the structure.
Diego slips his head-mass through the upper crack of the door. Beyond was a hallway with concrete walls. Men and women were racing into action. It would have been daunting for normal men, seeing that what Hitori faced by himself was only part of the force stationed here. A first line in the defenses, which were being marshaled while Hitori was occupied. Whoever these people were, after witnessing the Sword of Null shed his human guise, they were not underestimating Hitori. The weapons they gathered were normally used against tanks and other armored vehicles. These were mortal men preparing to slay a dark demigod.

The mist form mass has already decided that he would not be participating in the conflict himself though. He had set himself to the objective itself: the Eye. Floating amidst the shadows he is able to see the extent of the force arraying against Hitori. Hundreds of combatants … and Diego moved at the periphery of them, in pools of darkness, unnoticed. Trusting the guiding connection between himself and Silvia Costa Diego eventually comes to a distant region of the complex. A dead end hallway with a door guarded by two people. Each of them is wearing a ballistic mask with a respirator attachment, a hardened black breastplate that looks like it was removed from a hard suit worn one of Imperator's soldiers. Each holds a sophisticated rifle weapon, with a reinforced tube connecting to a compact and armored backpack-container on their backs.

Hitori's pull of the macro virus made something surface. He payed no attention to it now, instead opting for a more direct approach into dealing with the opposing army. With only his claw like slender arms to attack he slashes at one soldier after another, but the sheer ammount of them proves a difficulty in individualizing an enemy. Herd effect.

Hitori had a lot of people coming for him. Diego had to be fast to help Hitori. Staying in those little dark spots to be out of sight, he was glad Hitori had come along. Like a weapon, point and shot, he was doing is job. Now Diego had to deliver. It still bugged him though there was no clear indication who they worked. Their lack of a clear sign such as U.S army uniform, CIA black site guard outfits, or Stronghold attire weighed on his mind as he tried to quickly think of anything while he hid.

He didn't think long though. Quickly trying to stay hidden in the shadows, Diego does his best to fly over the guards and through any cracks that might be in the door to continue on his way. As he got closer, he noted the equipment factoring it into his previous mental assessment as he moved like a very very slight breeze through the air.

THe silo battle seemed like chaos. Hitori found himself chasing individuals. Some he injured or killed. BUt it was one attack individual ants in a hive. One broke leg or stab wound here and there didn't matter when there were over a hundred people. The monster didn't notice until it was too late, but he foud himself be corralled. Steered or lured into position by mobile units. Then he heard a voice call out.

"Rockets! NOW!!"

There was a series of hissing sounds from overhead. Looking up he saw that a number of the soldiers in the upper levels had shoulder mounted missle launchers … and their payload of missiles were bearing down on him.

Diego has little trouble evading the members of the second company forming up a second line of defense against Hitori's intrusion. He see barricades and static weapons being set up. There are also some unarmed people in nondescript clothing he'd expect to see on any city street moving out of the hallways and into rooms. Likely non-combatants. These aren't Diego's concern though. It is as he reaches the door and begins transitioning from ground levels shadows to the ceiling that one of the masked guards spots his black form moving to slip through the cracks in the door over his head. Bringing his weapon to bear he squeezes the trigger and it is not bullets that fly from the barrel but a very narrow stream of concentrated orange fire. Diego is able to swirl away from the blast of flame, but he has he withdraw from the door to do so.

"Look out!"

Hearing his companion's warning, and seeing where the man's attack was aim, the second guard becomes aware of Diego's presence. Before shouldering his own flame-gun the second guard speaks into a radio on his shoulder.

"Hostile spotted outside Maelstrom!"
OOC wrote:One of the guards spots Diego and points him out to the other guard. Roll Initiative.

If these guys shoot into shadows with their fire attacks, the light will counter Diego's Concealment.

There are no indicators that Diego can pick up on which would suggest who these people are or where their allegiances lie. They dress like civilians. They have military grade equipment. They're trained combatants. But they don't demonstrate any habits, tactics, or techniques that stand out as belonging to a specific group.

Floating in between the two guards Diego shifts into his more liquid form. The cloud that stood between the two slowly reforms into something resembling a black T-1000 in its pure metallic form yet more menacing. The gem was likely behind the door and the two guards stood in the way of getting to it. While his more liquid form was terrifying enough, when he lifted his arm and extended it into a spike at one of the guards he upped the ante. "This all could have been avoided if you just let me in without letting anyone know. I really am a sensible person. Whoever your master is would have had two more soldiers if you just showed some courtesy.", says Diego in a passionless and analytical voice.

He knew he didn't have long. Hopefully these two fell fast. One of them was going to be his way out if he didn't damage the uniforms too much. Using his body ad a weapons was completely new to him though. Instinctively, he just knew he could do it.

Whle Diego is shifting his form in preperation to attack, and talking, the guards don't reciprocate. Neither hesitates or pauses. They just open fire. A rage of controlled fire sears at the black nano-fluid, but he manages to weave to the side. Diego's counter attack comes faster than the first guard's partner can react and his spike-hand plunges into the initial aggressor. The spike plunges into the man's center mass, straight through the hardened black breast plate. Blood wells up around the holds and spills out of the sides of his masks as he coughs before slumping to the ground. The remaining guard yells out an enraged cry when he sees his companion fall, and squeezes the trigger on his flame guns, sending a searing ray of orange fire that burns at Diego's nanite composition.

"You are too sentimental. Everything dies. Now it will be your turn.", simply says Diego as he extends a spiked arm at the guard. Backup could be there any second. He had to end this fast and press ahead. If time permitting, even throw backup off the trail in some fashion. That could be handled later though. For now, he had to focus on his attack.
This next part is if the guard goes down.
With his other immediate foe down, Diego morphs into a badly burned human form of some generic person of middle eastern descent and drops to the ground into a curled up position he once saw post battle in the middle after some gas tanks went off spraying a man with flame. The poor soldier who breached the compound didn't survive long. In his human form, it was one of the worst things Diego ever saw. Now, it was just a fact. A fact that would serve him well in this situation now.
Toughness 26
Taking 10 on same attack as before with Power Attack +2/-2 for 20 to hit and DC25 toughness
If the guard goes down, deception 11 10-5 bonus for it as move action in combat to look dead. Disguise wise, his morph gives a +30 bonus before any rolls.

There is a loud crack as Diego's spike-hand punches through the second guard's breastplate, sending spider-web cracks throughout it's surface. There is a pained cry just before the man goes limp and falls to the floor with his comrade. Blood pools on the ground, gently rolling into Diego when he goes prone and takes on the form of a charred corpse. In the distance he hears people shoutting and the drumming sound of many boots on the tiled floor. No one comes close though, and when Diego sees that he is not going to be immediately set upon or that no one draws near enough for him to adequately ambush, he rises again.

Diego does no test the doorknob to see if the door these men were guarding is locked. Instead he takes on his cloud-form, dispursing and moves to fly through cracks along the edges of the door. He does so with no issue. Once inside he sees a large room populated with a collection of sizable generators that look to have been taken from WW2. At each corner of the room is a device that looks like it was taken from the mind of Nicola Tesla. Coiling miniature towers with bulbus tops of copper. The air is electric. From each of clamoring generators is a mess of cords and wires that come together at a central location corning a knot the size of a basket ball. Diego can feel himself drawn to this mess of electrical cords. But between him and the knot is a lithe figure dressed similarly to the guards at the door, they also wear a black cowled cloak and their ballistic mask and respirator has a skull painted over it in red. This person boasts no flame-riffle though. Instead they have large gauntlets on that look like the hands of a giant robot.

The cowled figure faces the door, watching Diego's cloud-mass enter the room. They seem to have been waiting and continue to watch the entirety of Diego enter the room. Once the black mist completely spills into the room they speak up in a curious tone, their voice masculine and cold.

"What are you?"

He would worry about getting out later. if he saw the gem, it would be easy enough to mist back out to check for a key card. For now, he had to focus on the figure in front of him. It didn't look like Stronghold or any standard military unit. of course, the guards out front weren't dressed in standard military garb either. Something told Diego there was something not as expected going on here. Quickly thinking, he scanned his memory for anything he might have heard of a figure such as the one before him.

"I am the feeling Stronghold, the U.S military, and its allies have in their quiet moments when they think they are alone yet being watched. I could ask the very same question of you. What are you and who do the people who guard this place swear allegiance?", retorts Diego in an impassionate and almost robotic voice made all the more distant by him being a cloud. "Time is short before back up arrives, so I will keep it brief. If you give me the Eye of Odin gem, me and my companion will leave this place. Speaking for myself, killing more soldiers holds little value to me. The same could not be said of my colleague who will leave a trail of destruction the longer we are here.", says Diego just like he was tell someone the Mona Lisa is a painting or the sun is a star.

As he awaits a reply, Diego sends another message over the network to his fellow Ascendants. I am close to the gem and suspect I may have found something related to the storm. I need any immediate reactions you may have to the room and instruments. Time is short and I may be attacked any moment. I sense the gem in the middle coil of wires., transmits Diego along with a quick transfer of what he saw.

Just like with the stairs, he is sending the scene to Peter for any immediate takeaways or advice based on his technical skills.
