Rachel Tapperly
HP: 1; LP: 1; Condition: Bruised (-1)

Rachel paused from time to time as they made their way down the stairs, jotting some notes on a sheet of paper clipped to a board. It wasn't a proper map, more a simple set of reminders- just in case. Once they reached the bottom, she moved carefully towards the strange blue flame, examining it cautiously. "Such a wonder- though I suppose we shouldn't be surprised..."

Mot will hop down from the mechanoid's back, stretching joints jostled by a ride down a long set of stairs on a creature designed without good shock absorbers. Mot inspects the door on the right for how it opens and if there's anything set to happen if it does. Mot likewise listens at the door.

The elf made note of the shadows as they passed, and even dropped back once or trice to inform the others of their presence. However, with them being seemingly non hostile as of now, he paid them little other mind.

"Hm... Certainly looks pretty at least."

"We must be fairly deep underground by now." she noted, "And the inside of this place is in much better shape than the outside. That - can't be natural."

The Tower

Post by Camus »

Reva was right, as both Yarl and Rachel could tell, but what was "unnatural" was clearly the blue fire. For starters, it gave no warmth, and Yarl had seen references of this in his study of runic magic. These fires are created and burn continuously, as long as there are sentient beings around. They feed on dreams and nightmares, and they are usually sent where these things are abundant, like cities, as cheap way of lighting.
Rachel, always practical, reckons there is a way to harness this fire. To take it. There were these two wizards eating one day at the inn, and she overheard about how cumbersome it was to move the blue fires around. She just doesn't have what it would take to do it though. She recalls she needs a glass container and two bars of copper.
Meanwhile, Mot checks the doors. The on on the right seems easy enough to open, as it is not rigged with any trap. The on on the left, however, seems to have a thin, imperceptible wire that connects the door with the brazier where the smith and the tavern gal are looking at the blue fire.

Mot

"OoOOooh..." Mot trills. "That door is open and boring." Mot jerks a thumb over a shoulder pointing strait behind. "But this door, yes, this door will make blue brazier explode, or maybe knock over, or just turn off, the boringest option. But still... Shall Mot try it?"

Yarl

"Not while we are standing next to the brazier, Mot," he says. "Are you sure it will explode? These blue flames are worth money. Also, is the brazier exploding a trap that you can disable rather than tripping?"

Mot frowns. "If Mot were being boring about it..." Mot says. "there should be way to keep tension on wire independent of door."

"You lot should back away in case this not work. Not sure exactly what it do to blue fire."

Rachel Tapperly
HP: 1; LP: 1; Condition: Bruised (-1)

Rachel continued to peer at the strange magical flame- occasionally raising one hand to NOT QUITE touch it. If she had heard Mot speak, she gave no sign, instead appearing quite wrapped up in her study. While there might be a way to harness the flame, to take it with them, she didn't have the proper implements- perhaps they might be found deeper in the tower...

>OOC: Entwined in her Complications, Rachel is much too absorbed to hear Mot's warning. Luckily, he is good at his task. Right?

"Do you see something important, Rachel?" Yarl says. "Rachel." He touches her shoulder and says her name a little louder. "Rachel?"

Mot is studying the wire looking for a way to jam or secure it. With all the shuffling behind Mot'll assume everyone has gotten 'safe' by now.

Mot takes a best guess at the tension on the wire and makes a divot like a shallow trough around a hillock like a sunken donut in the stone wall next to the wire, carefully snips the wire with sharp kobold teeth, and wraps the wire around the center protrusion tying it off.
For complications to generate HP they have to involve danger, let's try the roll prematurely.

Rachel Tapperly
HP: 2; LP: 1; Condition: Bruised (-1), Fascinated

At first she didn't respond, but at the touch on her shoulder she shook herself and looked away from the flame for a moment. "This is just fascinating, to see this kind of energy close up." She waved her hand towards the flame, again not QUITE touching it. "I think I could perhaps lift it out, so we could take it with us, I just need..."

Only then did she glance over to where Mot was working...

>OOC: Complications are best when you keep up with them even if they AREN'T going to generate HP at the moment, right?
