The Tower

Post by Camus »

Image

The group decides that it is best to press on regardless of the encroaching night. Torches are lit, thanks to Thadd who has brought with him like 10. Rachel provides the flint and steel and in a few minutes all who need a source of light, has it.
With Alanari and Mot in the vanguard, the group moves unobstructed towards the tower. The shadows grow as the night settles on the forest, and today they seem to be alive. You all find yourselves turning alarmed at something that wasn't there, of confound a harmless branch with a deadly beast. Your encounter with the troll hasn't help either, and you glare at any big tree trunk with weariness.

Rachel Tapperly
HP: 2; LP: 1

While Rachel liked the outdoors, she liked "the outdoors" much closer to the village, and in daylight. While she wasn't afraid, every little sound and every flicker of motion caught at her attention- and trying to pay attention to EVERYTHING meant that she was catching the details of NOTHING...

Reva Vanel
HP : 2
Condition : Normal

Reva thought for a bit while the group moved through the woods. "Inside a tower might be marginally safer than being outside at night."

Yarl Bloodworth

"Depends on what's in the tower." Immediately after he regretted giving voice to that thought.

"Well, I did say 'might be marginally safer'" she replied, looking around carefully.

THADDEODORUS HIGHBORN – THADD THE GREAT

HP: 2; Status: Still leadering
Perception check: 1d20+8 15
"I agree, dirty huntress," Thadd said, acknowledging her with a nod. He drew his sword and raised his shield. "Come, fellow heroes, let us enter this dark den of evil and being purging it of the foul fog that it has unleashed on the people of our fair town."

He began to take determined steps toward the Tower.

The shadows

Post by Camus »

Mot, worried about his own safety as always, kept turning his head to eye the rear group. In one of his peeks to the back, he caught a glimpse of something moving in the shadows. Shadows moving in the shadows. Shadows! The dark matter moved with a will of its own, and claws and cloaks of misty darkness emerged around the group in the back, ready to attack!
Reva turned to give her reply to Yarl when she also saw the creatures. Stuff or nightmares, something she had never saw before but that felt so unnatural as the Daze itself.

Image

OOC: Everyone roll initiatives. Mot and Reva, if you roll a 20 or better you may act before the shadows. They are around the group in the back, so 50ft away from Mot, and 100 away from Alanari. Knowledge rolls are acceptable immediately, with the following results:
DC15: The creatures are shadows, undead spectres.
DC20: Shadows are generally immaterial, and hard to hurt with normal weapons
DC25: Shadow are vulnerable to fire.

Reva Vanel
HP : 2
Condition : normal

Reva noticed something coming from behind the party. Shadows with no creatures casting them.

"This isn't good !" she muttered as she recalled stories about monsters that sort of sounded like these things from long ago.
Initiative 4/8: 1d20+7 22

Knowledge: 1d20+2 15
From pure reflex, she drew her bow and fired off an arrow at one of the shadows (she might get lucky. Or at the very least learn what DOESN'T work against these things).

Rachel Tapperly
HP: 2; LP: 1

Rachel raised her staff in one hand, a reflexive 'keep back' gesture- she drew in a shocked breath, but didn't scream. Those shadows, moving without light or source, sparked a memory- such creatures featured a ghostly guardians in many a spooky story...

Why in the Tale of Sir Barnaby and the Shadow Witch, the evil sorceress had called forth twisted shadow monsters to harass the knight, and his sword had availed him not... It was only the blessed lantern he carried that saved him.

"Stay back!," she called out to the others. "They are creatures of darkness, formed of shadows but given a foul un-life! Solid weapons are of little use, but fire can harm them!"

"Ummm. I think it can, anyway..."

>OOC: So, who has the torch anyways?
-Initiative 1d20+2= 10
-Investigation (Well-informed) 1d20+8= 18 (Enough to identify them)
-Expertise (Mythology and folklore) 1d20+6= 25 (I remember a story about just such creatures!)
