Yeah, I can undwrstand that. I've been having an ear infection that's left me feeling very off as of late myself. Think it's getting better though, thus I hope the same happens for you.

Still, pretty cool. Any inspiration for Jenny there?
Maybe? Still trying to absorb just how ghosts and magic work in this author's world- definitely not 'standard protocols'...

Feels like New Haven/Yale though- I imagine people who actually went there (rather than just dueling on the green in the center of campus) might feel the same way about the book's description that we feel when we show our Midwestern friends the movie The Town.

I'll get something IC up tomorrow.

Question: should Eric try to talk their way past the receptionist, or should Michael?
Thanks, and have a nice day :)

Seems that my assurance that there was nothing to worry about has only made you all even more suspicious about just walking in.

Smart of you.

Ichigorno, you say you're 'taking twenty', yet you also included a dice roll. Furthermore, there's no such mechanic to 'take twenty' unless you have the Ultimate Effort advantage, and even then you need to spend a hero point.

You can however attempt a routine investigation check, which is ten plus your modifier.

technically you could say he can take 20 on a roll but the rules would apply same to a take 10

first off the end result would be a 20 but not a crit 20 or the like so its just a normal roll
second the time taken would be commiserate so the character in question would be taking hours or more to perform the task

plus as a GM myself Im of the opinion that once you roll youre committing yourself to the dice so the point remains moot

just my 2 coppers

From a strictly technical perspective, that would not be the case due to the presence of a specific advantage dedicated towarss that purpose. From my perspective as your GM... It makes sense that spending a sufficiently large amount of time doing something would allow for the base role to be counted as twenty. The advantage can instead just be for doing so instantly, to still give it a purpose.

It's clear by his description if the roll what he intended it to be, though he also rolled for some reason. Perhaps a rules misinterpretation think he would add twenty instead of the roll itself being assumed as what it was? I'll allow it to be the routine check of 18, unless Eric seriously intends to spend several hours sniffing a woman's apartment. ;)

I thought that 'taking 10' meant taking more time, which would add 10 to the roll, and that 'taking 20' meant the same, more time equating to a +20 on the roll. I apologize for my error.
Thanks, and have a nice day :)

2nd Edition did have that as a rule

it didnt quite make it over to third ed one can take 10 so to speak with gms approva;l but its considered a casual check take 20 isnt technically available save as Ultimate skill check which uses a heropoint also skill mastery presumes a min 10 on the role as an automatic

a gm can of course waive such things as they see fit and or house rule as needed.
