MANY ENTRANCES AND SIDE ENTRANCES ARE CURRENTLY UNGUARDED, DESPITE THE EFFORTS OF TEMPESTINEERS. WE GAINED ACCESS VIA SUCH A SIDE ENTRANCE. WE ARE ENGINSEERS, TECHNOLOGY IS OUR BIRTHRIGHT. WE SHALL HAVE ACCESS AND EQUAL SHARE TO THE BOUNTY HEREIN.

Lucas' brow furrowed at this statement. Unguarded? Since when has the Palace been reliant on the Tempestineers to keep intruders out? What had changed since his entry into the Palace? The Reboot. But the Palace' external security was non-sentient automation. Nepenthe had been woken. Did she do something that would create this vulnerability? He could inquire later.

For now he responded to the Enginseer's claims to technology and desire for their share in what was contained within the Palace. While Lucas' voice remained calm, he spoke his terms with the firmness of reciting a law that would be enforced.

"If the Enginseers wish to visit the Palace, they must respect my authority over it. They must contribute to the defense of the Palace along side the Tempestineers. They must not harm the residents of the Palace, including synthetics such as Golems and Icons. They must also refrain from taking anything from the Palace without express permission."

A short pause followed the declaration of what would be required of the Enginseers. Then he went on.

"The Grand Audience Hall ..."

... lifting a hand he motioned to the grand meeting place they found themselves in.

"... as well as the Room of Gods are off limits after this meeting. As you did not have prior knowledge of this restriction, I will not fault you. These are the terms that have been given to the Tempestineers. If the Enginseers can abide by them, then they are welcome to share in this joint endeavor."

OOC:
Assessment (the Enginseer): heavy combat unit.
Assessment (the Enginseer’s golem): technological intel.

Technology (the Enginseer): he’s designed to blow s**t up and tank lots of damage. A most curious choice for envoy.
Technology (the Enginseer’s golem): its a walking wireless connection. NOT a skynode, just designed to interact with golems, computing systems and Icons.

Life Sciences (the Enginseer): portions of his brain are missing, meaning he has no emotions.
Life Sciences (the Enginseer’s golem), n/a.

Sense Motive: they came here expecting a slugfest. They’re rather have peace, but they came packing heat for a fight.
YOUR TERMS ARE ACCEPTABLE. WE REQUEST THE RIGHT TO MAINTENANCE PALACE GOLEMS AND ICONS, TO KEEP THEM AT FULL FUNCTIONALITY.

A thoughtful silence came over Imperious when the request was made that the Enginseers be allowed to maintain Golems and Icons. On one had, this was a need that he recognized. On the other, so far his encounters with the Enginseers had been mostly negative. Or started positive enough, then turned sour.

"I acknowledge the maintenance of Icons and Golems is important. That the Enginseers are both willing and able to offer to do so is appreciated. However, my interactions with the Enginseers have been mixed. For now my answer is no. Though I will keep my mind open to this request and allow the Enginseers the opportunity to show they can be trusted with such a responsibility."

Using that as a jumping off point, from which Imperious steers the conversation.

"It pleases me to hear the Enginseer Technical League is willing to work together. It is my hope that joint efforts between our groups can extend beyond the the Palace, in time. There are global concerns our factions could work towards addressing together, and threats to our world that are building strength. The Oblivion Flock, for example, is a technological plague. A foe the Enginseers may be the best equipped to help organize a response to."

WE SHALL NOW VACATE THIS ROOM IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PACT WE HAVE STRUCK. OTHERS OF OUR KIND ARE COMING. THEY WILL BE INFORMED, UPON ARRIVAL.

THERE IS SOMETHING YOU MUST BE MADE AWARE OF. SHORTLY AFTER THE MACHINELIFE OF RUSTDEITY FELL DORMANT, THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION OF MOVEMENT IN THE SHATTERED LABYRINTH, INDICATING SIGNIFICANT ARCANINAUT ACTIVITY.

With the resolution of the Enginseer's diplomatic outreach concluded, Imperious walks down the length of the Grand Audience Hall, escorting the cyborg out of and away from the room. Imperious motioned with one hand that Seraph should accompany him, he begins to lead the way to the front entrance to the Palace. As they walk, Imperious continues to talk.

"Thank you for sharing this information. Preparations will have to be made for increased Arcaninaut activity. In the event Enginseers require assistance in combating them, you may call on me for aid. If nothing else, we should keep each other appraised of significant Arcaninaut movements."

"After the first of your people have arrived, and they are made aware of the Pact, I would ask that you accompany me when I inform the Tempestineers and representative of the Palace residents that the Enginseers have agreed to the Pact."

AS YOU SAY.

Orc and Bor come running. In the distance, the Tempestineers are gearing up for battle. Orc points at the crescent moon, high above. “My friend,” Orc says, “we’ve spotted xenodrones descending from Corrosion to here at the Palace. No organic detected; just alien golems. They’re heavily armed. They’re still in orbit. You’re the only one here who can reach them before they enter the atmosphere! These xenodrones are running hot and have a suite of weapons already deployed!”

When he sees Bor and Orc moving towards him with rapidity, Imperious quickens his pace, but not enough to loose Seraph behind. When attention was directed to Corrision he tilted his head back and gazed skyward. While his vision magnified with Shi'Halal's sensors he motioned to the Enginseer accompanying him. But his eyes continued to search for the xenodrones.

"This is Seraph, an envoy from the Enginseers. They have agreed to the same terms I have given the Tempesinteers for visiting the Palace. Including defending the Palace together."

That last sentance was emphasized. It seemed the Enginseer's visit had beena timely one. Was it planned? Despite that though a nod followed as he reflected on Orc's observations.

"I will be the vanguard. Deploy air-power to intercept and mitigate potential long range bombardment ... but do not let them over extend themselves too far from ground support."

Having given those instructions Imperious rose into the air and began his ascent towards the hostile xeno Golems. As he flew he activated his Encephalon and tasked it with sending a message to Nepenthe.

"You should return to the Palace. It's defenses have ceased to function. They must be restored. Someone was able to sneak their way inside ... and now Xeno Drones are attacking. Request a Tempestineer escort, as I will be defending against the assault, and you should not be alone there. The infected synthetics number in the hundreds."

As Imperious rockets upwards, Shai’Halal adjusting his flight pattern as necessary to avoid colliding with the ocean of debris far above, an insectile nnnnnnnnNNNNNNNnnnnn fills Imperious’ ears.

The xenodrones are broadcasting,” Shai’Halal states, “but it’s nonsense, no legible language therein. Shall I filter it out?

Upon reaching orbit, the three xenodrones are hulking war-golems, designed for combat in the air and in zero-G alike. Vaguely aphid-like in appearance and painted bone-White, the equivalent of a xeno bar-code runs each one’s left side. Blisters of guns are on every side of these machines. No sensors can be seen, posing the interesting question as to how they see where they’re going.
OOC:
Before you ask, no, their ID numbers are radically different than the drones you faced immediately following the resurrection of Dancer-upon-Oblivion. They do NOT share a common origin!

Free much of Rustdeity's gravity Imperious silently wove through the debris in orbit. When the Xenodrones came into view he maneuvered to put himself directly in their flight path. Blocking off their route to the Imperial Palace, obstructing it and moving with them to bar their passage. The buzzing transmission Shi'Halal relayed to him was unusual. Perhaps a hints of their origin, maybe some sign of cyber warefare, or madness. Who knew if these Golems made by inhuman minds had been properly maintained. They could be suffering the same fate as the machine life on Rustdeity had.

"No. Reduce the volume and let me know if the broadcast changes. Send the following message: 'I am Imperious, Lord and protector of Bastion. The Imperial Palace is under my protection. Stand down, disengage you weapons, and you will be allowed to leave. If you maintain your hostile disposition you will be terminated.'"
OOC wrote:In case it ends up being needed, here is an Initiative check: Initiative: 1D20+10 = [10]+10 = 20

How fast are the xenoddrones moving? Flight rank wise. I'd like to know how much I can afford to adjust Shi'Halal's Flight/Utility array. Also, is their propulsion system visibly apparent?

OOC:
Flight 15, but only in short bursts. They’re hauling ass to get into Rustdeity’s upper atmosphere. You can tell without needing to roll because, every few moments, their speed goes from 10 to 15 back down to 10, again.
The xenodrones show no sign of comprehension, and their guns begin to heat up, in preparations to open fire.
OOC:
Going to roll initiative! Hang on a moment...

With the Xenodrones either unable or unwilling to comply, Imperious put diplomacy to the wayside and flew at the war machines. As he closed distance with the war machines, Shi'Halal's exotic material rolled over his right hand like a black mass that appeared to have qualities that were both liquid and solid at the same time. In seconds his hands was swallowed up, and the barrel of a directed energy weapon had formed around it.

Rather than crash into the aggressive Xeno-Golem he had picked out at his first target, Imperious flew past it. Once behind the Xenodrone he flipsed around, brought his weapon to bear, and aimed at the machine's propulsion system. A flash of light came from the mouth of his arm-cannon, sending a bolt of white hot plasma into the back of the war-Golem.

The xenodrones targeted by Imperious spins wildly off course, momentum sending it off into the Sargasso Sea that is upper orbit.

The other two xenodrones pay no need, and open fire.
OOC:
They can’t damage you, but I’m making attack rolls anyway as there’s a non-damaging effect tacked on.
Only one of them hit you! Now...before we go any further, are you immune to disease? If not, make a Fortitude save.
The shells from the xenodrone weaponry collide with Imperious and explode harmlessly. Shai’Halal notes, “They are employing bacteriological weaponry on us. My systems are secure. You need not worry. I am already disinfecting, a process that should take less than fifteen seconds.

The Xenodrones return fire and Imperious rolls to the side while continuing forwards, his creating a tight spiraling maneuver that helps him avoid one of the attacks. The second barrage impacts with his armor, but he does not flinch from his course.

"Enchephalon, inform our allies planet side the Xenodrones are employing bacteriological weaponry."

After providing his Enchephalon with those directions he brought his plasma arm-cannon to bear on a new target. He already had one disabled war-Golem for post-battle analysis. Now the others could be dispatched, though he still targeted their propulsion system. In the event he was not able to destroy the enemy outright, he wanted to restrict their movement, and prevent them from reaching their destination. There was a silent lash of white light as a bolt of plasma flew through space ahead of him, towards one of the alien machines.
OOC wrote:Going to attack one of the Xeno-drones still heading towards Rustdeity, targeting their propulsion systems (Precise Shot 2) again. Though now he does not mind destroying them. Previously Imperious wanted to ensure he had one potential prisoner for interrogating/study later.

The xenodrone explodes; as it does so, a small tesseract opens and swallows the remains whole, before committing it back out only a few meters away. If it was a teleport mechanism, it clearly was badly malfunctioning?

The third and final xenodrone pulls the sort of turn only really possible in zero-G and begins retreat back to Corrosion.
OOC:
Your turn!
