Kit Ferryman
HP: 1
Cnd: -1 damage

Kit pops around to a few places outside, coordinating with any police assets drones or patrols, to no avail. One too many got away. There was critics of the team around every corner and any mistake would get magnified such as letting one beast man get away. For once, Kit wasn't on the side of messing up. The mistake fell on the team though. It meant he would need to spin it somehow. After regrouping with the others, there would be time for that though.

Stepping through a portal near the others, Kit shook his head. "No dice. Among my many talents isn't tracking and the drones of the cops isn't that Aegis or military grade stuff.", Kit said with his patented confident yet not cocky smile. "Did i hear mention of cameras? They had to have been broadcasting somewhere. Could provide a lead. Otherwise, we gotta do it the old fashioned way. Pounding the pavement, looking for clues, and all that. Don't suppose any of you are good at it?", inquired Kit.

Angela
HP: 2 +1 (GM award)
Condition: Normal

The golden pins the gangsters were wearing had been disintegrated by the explosion, so Angela looks at the cameras instead. Their presence is totally not surprising, considering the entire thing was staged.

"Someone wanted a show," she wonders aloud, "but who's the audience?" Angela doesn't come with USB-C ports, so she has to do this the old-fashioned way, the way a human whose only interface with machines was their hands. But she knows many the ways one might theoretically try to conceal one's electronic traces or destroy the evidence after the fact. Hey, maybe she'll get lucky and there will even be sensitive footage of other places this camera's been on the memory card - like that one time some government official managed to leave behind a pen drive with sensitive CIA data at an airport.

OOC

I will actually forego the int check since Gilliam got a great 20 on the die. Instead Angela will look at the cameras. She wants to determine 1) where they were broadcasting to in particular and 2) if possible, where the cameras have previously been.

Angela

Angela is able to follow the cables from the cameras to a transmitter. The transmitter uses a special transmission frequency and you are able to track the destination to an old transit authority substation. It would be a perfect place to tie into the electricity mains and supply the voltage necessary for any major electrical projects.

Sky Guard
HP: 7
Cnd: Healthy
Favored Environment: Defense Focus [24 to hit]

Sky Guard waits for Angela to indicate that she is finished looking over the cameras, then holds up a hand to halt her from saying any more than that.

"You, Taheka, and Kit get clear of the building, then look into what you found out. Just recon and information gathering. The rest of us will remain here to make sure the prisoners are secured. Call us in if you need backup."

Kit Ferryman
HP: 1
Cnd: -1 damage

An orange filled and green bordered oval shaped portal appeared next to Kit. He liked to mix things up every now and again with his portals as the fans got bored with the same type of portals every time. He didn't want to open the portal directly into the area, as much fun as that would be, so he made sure to open it close enough without being spotted by guards. "Right, no jumping in to take out the florists. Just keep an eye on em. Should be easy enough as long they don't have a remote poised to go off for show.", says Kit waiting for Taheka to step through before going through himself.

"Thanks mate" Teheka said stepping through the portal, he was getting use to using the portals now.

Angela
HP: 3

"Recon and information gathering. Gotcha." Angela took that to mean no getting into fights yet if possible.

She tilted her head at Kit's comment. The transmitters led to an old transit authority substation, just where was he opening his portal? Nevertheless, she stepped through obligingly. The moment she was through, she looked around. The first priority was to locate the substation the transmitter had led them to, and determine if anyone was inside.

OOC
So I'm not sure if I need to make a check for this, but just in case, here is Perception to locate the substation and to notice if anyone (guards, civilians etc.) is in or around it. We'll have to decide how to proceed depending on what we see first.

Kit, Taheka, and Angela

You walk out of the portal on the roof of a building about a block away from the substation. It's easy to spot because there is a small homeless "tent city" around the building.

"Pretty sure if we go walking about down there asking, is there a secret base of the black Rose people will either look confused or it will be a guard. So any ideas?", inquired Kit of the others as he surveyed the scene for anything useful.

Kit

The camp looks pretty much like the homeless camps out in California. Dozens of small and medium sized tents with a large area covered in tarps with cooking and cleaning areas for everyone there.

Regardless of whether they are guards or homeless, they won't talk to anyone in costume. They have been run off by the police too many times in their lives to think of authority as anyone but the enemy.

There was a brief shimmer as Tamati returned to human form, "I suspect they will run a mile if I wander through the tents in my water form but hopefully like this there won't be too much of a reaction. We might as well take a look anyway.""

Looking round for a way down to the ground Tamati had an idea "Angela, are you able to tell if anything over there is drawing way more electricity than what you would expect for a bunch of TVs or microwaves?"

Angela
HP: 3
Condition: Normal

Angela puts her hands on hips. In the best case those homeless are innocent civilians in the line of fire who will resist any attempt to evacuate them as a routine crackdown by the law. In the worst case, they are a low-tech early warning system and human shields. Why can't the evil lair be guarded by killer drones and sentry guns? Killer drones and sentry guns she knows how to deal with.

But to Taheka's question she is able to nod brightly yes. "A device drawing huge amounts of power from the grid can cause electronic noise or fluctuations in the quality of the power supply. It's one of the methods power companies use to try and detect power theft. I'll take a taste of the local electric mains and see if there's anything suspicious going on."

Her voice is triumphant. All of her nerdy expertise in electrical and electronics engineering had been bred into her to make her the ideal companion to Doc Otaku, but also because it was sometimes easier (not to mention cheaper) for the creepy Doc to just siphon a bit off the local grid instead of setting up a cold fusion reactor in the basement. Angela flies up to a nearby telephone pole, taking care to chose one not in line of sight to the homeless tent city, carefully makes a connection to mains electricity and tastes the power flowing through it.

OOC
So I don't know how feasible this is but Angela is going to try and detect if there is something drawing large amounts of power by sampling the mains supply. A large device drawing power may introduce electronic noise or other distortions in power quality which might be detectable.

She will hook herself up to a nearby line (I believe in the U.S. most mains power is still carried in above-ground cables instead of underground ones) and take 10 on Technology for a result of 30 to monitor the power supply for signs that something large nearby is drawing power off it. If she needs tools for this, I will spend 1 HP to have the necessary tools on hand.

Angela

Angela can tell that the transformers feeding into the substation are non-standard for the city. And the hum they are making suggests they are stepping up the voltage a lot.

Angela also knows that with that much power running through them, damaging the transformers would probably cause them to explode as well as feedback into the main and blow out several other transformers causing a widespread blackout.

Not one for just sitting around, Kit figured he go for it. "Unless anyone can pinpoint where we go, might as well just start exploring.", remarks Kit opening a portal to an alley on the ground preparing to walk into camp. It wasn't like the lot of them sitting around was going to do much now. Once on the ground, he kept the portal open long enough for whoever to go with him.
