The Lost Girl didn't avoid the first attack, and didn't even think to do the same for the tennis ball- Which resulted in her screaming in pain with all the wail of a little girl in the grips of absolute terror. It 'd be enough to shimmer the area with almost palatable dread- before she began to flicker and then abruptly vanish.

~

"How the hell-" Vincent gasps as he feels the Lost Girl's spectral shell utterly obliterated by whatever sort've attack that was meant to be. In truth the destruction of his spirit didn't actually do anything to hurt him physically or even spiritually. More it was the sheer shock that she'd managed to do anything at all to destroy it.

Vincent spat on the ground, bringing his hands to bear as he forcefully pulled the ghost back together. "That stupid child! Why do I even bother trying to save you from your foolishness? I should've just let you continue onto your death and come back for your ghost later."

Precious seconds are lost as he throws the reformed spirit back out into the staging area.

Remote sensing only, observe the fallout for a moment before I act.
Renee was trying to figure out how to remove a child from an impending police action. The girl was screaming at the air and told Renee that she needed to 'stay back'. Renee was trying to figure out what to do about this kid that wouldn't jeopardize the operation when a thrown tennis ball seemed to stop in midair and explode. Renee was never a police officer, but she was still required to undergo tactical training in order to be allowed on the field. She immediately reached for her sidearm, a standard issue Glock 22, and leveled it at the open air and then at the 12 year old girl.

"Stop. Put your hands up. I..." Am I seriously pointing my gun at this little girl?. ADA Callenholt reached for her radio, "Possible enhanced activity. I need immediate back up."

It is at this point that Rhionnan noticed that the woman was holding a gun up. With all the grace and alacrity of a twelve year old, she screamed and ran behind a car. "Do something Cassidy!"

"We still don't know if she is a bad one. The girl seemed to think so, but I don't trust something I cannot see."

"I will do something then." Rhionnan grabbed a tennis ball from her bag and bounced it off of the wall.

[Attack (Lucky Bounce: ricochet, Homing): 20 VS 20]

[Toughness check: 12 vs 21: two degrees of failure]

Renee felt that tennis ball hit and hit hard. Her vision went white and Renee's poor trigger discipline resulted in a shot going off and wide. A scattering of bbs flew outward as she stumbled backwards. At the moment this had happened, SGT Reed had moved quickly and by himself toward her side, gun at the ready. Hearing another scream from the 12 year old, he moved in close. "Are you OK?" Several more police officers start coming out of the wood work. Three from the tactical van, two from a nearby car that was around the corner. Another ran up from a small alcove maybe 200 yards away. Each were carrying a gun, held out and ready for an assault. Their arms relaxed as a crying 12 year old yelled at them all to leave her alone.

Their arms relaxed as a crying 12 year old yelled at them all to leave her alone.
After checking the child and getting her under the watch of two other police officers, SGT Reed walked over to the reeling ADA. "How are you doing?"

"That kid hit me in the face with a tennis ball. I'm doing great."

"Let me look at that." Gently moving Callenholt's hand from her face, he looked at the damage. "Damn! She got you good. I think that is blood in the sclera."

"Great. First time interacting with a super, and the kid clocks me in the face."

"Yeah... that definitely seems like lousy luck. Question though: you are sure she is a super?"

ADA Callenholt looked incredulous. "She made one of those explode in mid air and then clocked me from behind a car. Without looking I might add!"

"I get it. I get it. It's just... this doesn't look good. You took a shot off at a 12 year old kid."

"The kid has weapons."

"The kid has tennis balls." Looking down at the ground Reed sees the scattering of bbs. "OK, weighted tennis balls. What I am saying is this looks very bad for you. If we knew for sure the kid was enhanced then we could back you up completely. 12 years old or not, enhanced individuals are dangerous. If we cannot prove that, then it looks like you took a gun and shot at a 12 year old kid."

"So what? We ask the kid and get her to tell..." she stopped herself. "Any attorney worth his salt would tear me apart on the stand for forcing a kid to confess. I am so #$@!ed right now!"

"There is another option." Callenholt listened. "What we could do is take the kid into our custody quickly. Quietly call the parents of course. But we keep this all under wraps for the operation. It might be that the kid is involved somehow in the casino we are going after. We don't know how they keep getting tipped off to our actions. Perhaps the kid is one of theirs? Anyway once we are there, we find out if the girl is in anyway involved. We bring down this cartel and clear your name at the same time."

"I... we can't keep this operation going with the fallout of the shooting."

"It is that, or we go with what we know to be true. You took a shot at a twelve year old. She hit you with a tennis ball of bbs. She might get punished for assaulting an officer of the law, or she might get off on self defense from the woman who shot at her. Your career though, that would probably be over."

Renee Callenholt sat there stunned for a moment. Her biggest worry this morning was that some idiot might destroy evidence she needed. Now she had a rogue police officer in one corner forging signatures like hers and a kid she has accidentally terrorized. If she weren't still in shock, she would probably break.

SGT. Reed looked at her and gave her a supportive smile. "I will go to bat for you if you decide to keep the operation going. I didn't see the initial interaction, but I can give you some cover should you decide to press on with my plan."

Renee's shoulders slumped. "I might not have any other choice but to press on." Reed smiled and walked over to the team that was now carrying a terrified child into their operations van. "At least I have one friend on my side out here." Renee said once Reed was out of earshot. "If not for you, I would be up a very foul creek with no paddle."

Out of the corner of Renee's eye, she'd notice that she hadn't been left alone. Another young girl, this one in a old nightgown that looks as far out of place here as it would even in someone's home. She's kicking her legs lightly, staring after the man with a grown.

For the breifest moments her form flickers. "That's not really true, you know. Just lying to yourself I think. Please don't pull your gun out by the way, I'm not really here. Not anymore."
Am I dead? Am I alive? The answer may surprise you!

Renee was coming down from the adrenaline in her system. The foul taste of it in her mouth. Then she saw a girl sitting on a car Renee was resting near. Oh lord. Another kid. Seriously it is a school day. Why are all of your here? Is there a field trip I am unaware of?

"I... what? Of course you are here. I can see you right there." Renee reached out to touch the girl, but felt nothing. "Oh shit... another super? Have I just lost it?"

"Mm... No. Not me at least, I'm just dead." She moves to lean forward, laying her chin against her hands while resting her elbows upon her legs. "Sorry by the way, I'm the reason she was having such a fit. I may have lied to her about taking her into the casino. The world dosn't need more dead kids."

"You are dead. I am seeing ghosts? From the casino?" She spent a moment looking around at everyone nearby. Several police officers were looking at her. "You led the girl to me? Why? To save her life?"

She held a finger to her lips, and pointed toward the vehicle she'd been occupying by herself during most of the stakeout. Vincent knew that the ADA's reputation was already on rocky ground due to the weapon discharge, maybe it was best not to add taking to voices ontop of that. If the woman seemed to take her up on the suggestion, the girl flickered away and waited for her to return.

"So we probably can't rely on the ADA, can we?" Breach says. "She's compromised and that Reed guy has her over a barrel. Travaglia probably won't care that our first idea isn't going to pan out. What's our plan B?"

[OOC: Taking a guess as to what you meant.]

ADA Renee Callenholt walked to the car that the ghost girl was pointing at. Whether I am crazy or not, I should probably not look like I am. The car was unlocked and Renee slipped inside the passenger side door. This vehicle was a county vehicle, and like most county vehicles was in good shape but with a lot more miles than you would want on your vehicle. "I am in here... ghost girl... person... thing. I am just talking to myself aren't I?"

"Feel free to start thinking of one. I'll play this one to our advantage for as long as I'm able. How much do you think I should even tell her?" Vincent asked, eyes unfocused.

~

"Guess that depends on how much you believe in ghosts, huh?" Thr Lost Girl teased, swinging her feet as she fiddled with her seat. Something clicked as she found the right lever, and suddenly she was reclining with a giggle. "Motor-cars really have gotten strange over the years, havn't they. "

"At this point we are running out of time," Breach says. "Just tell the ADA that Frank busted a bunch of convicts from prison to be the inside people. He plans to kill them during the raid. And Sgt. Reed is in on his plan. I see no reason to beat around the bush. Lay the cards on the table and let the chips fall where they may.

"Oh, and mention the young super was just in the wrong place at the wrong time as young supers tend to be."

While Vincent is busy, Breach logs into the computer on the desk and tries to her meager hacking skills to use. She opens the case on the computer and tries to hack the Wi-fi card, with her eye for security, so she can monitor other radio telecommunications around the building.

Hack the wi-fi receiver: 1D20+18 = [7]+18 = 25 (if that succeeds enough to get the card to do what I want but not enough to find the communications between Frank and Reed, I spend a Hero Point to roll again (modify scene).)

The laptop brought to you had its wifi card disabled, but this was brought back online easily enough. The card had been turned off in software. The laptop given to you was actually much better than it had any right to be. Apparently this had promiscuous mode and could scan the local networks with a quick download of wireshark.

A quick move to the local networks found a great deal of information. Using another wifi network as a pineapple, you manage to scan the local areas and pick up some phones in the area. While there is no name attached to the phone, you have located the phone on the network with the messages described.

[OOC: It is unclear to me if Breach would know the usefulness of this information to law enforcement.]

Breach makes a recording of the messages on the local laptop. She continues to monitor the phones in the area with the interesting messages, reading them out to Vincent when they seem of interest.
