"Even if we did, you don't have to worry about that. I have someone on my side who can instigate the discussion with no personal risk."

While they discussed their methods, his spirits wandered, and hunted for information he could use.

Investigation: 27
Your spirits had followed the ADA Renee Callenholt for the last ten minutes. In that time she had managed to make calls to several other people, all voicemail, and had gotten to the team leader of the SWAT team SGT. Reed. They are sitting in a large black truck labeled DUI Squad about 8 blocks away.

"Look, do you want me to call off the raid or not?" Reed seemed irritated.

"I... not right now. I am just asking if we can push it back."

"And I told you over the phone that if we do that, we do nothing for two weeks. From what I have read about this case, your informants don't usually last that long."

While Renee couldn't have recognized him, you however remember him as one of the officers that held you yesterday morning.

"No. You're right. We go on time unless something changes. If something does, how long do we have?"

"If we decide to scrub the mission, we can do it with as little warning as ten minutes. Once my men are on the field, their instructions are radio silent until breach. We cannot call them back at that point."

Renee nods and walks out of the truck.

[And because your investigation was so very high]

Walking around the outside is a young girl, about 12 years old with long red hair and a messy shirt with Liberty Girl on front. Rhionnan O'Brian was walking about two blocks east of where Renee was having her conversation. A little mote sat on her shoulder, still not completely manifested.

"Are you sure this is where we need to go?" She paused for a moment as the mote edged near her ear. "I trust you Cassidy, it is just really hot and there's nothing here. I thought we were going to be fighting crime and be heroes!" Once again she paused. "I trust you. I just wish it wasn't so hot!"

As she says this, an ice cream man stops his truck in front of Rhionnan. "Hey! Little girl. My freezer just broke and my ice cream is going to melt. Would you like some free pops before they melt?" Happy and with a knowing smirk on her face, she began to load up on sweets while politely thanking the ice cream truck driver.

"You do always take care of me Cassidy", Rhionnan said as she walked down with a quickened pace in your general direction.

At first he relates what his scouting spirit overheard, and then Vincent frowned. "Oh, great. Just what we need. A child who barely has control of her own nature thinks she's going to stop an entire organized criminal organization all on her own."

~

Another girl of perhaps ten or twelve years suddenly appeared to walk from behind a lamppost. It'd be enough to give Rhionnan pause, having not seen her until that very moment. Even more, her pretty lilac nightgown seemed completely out of place when compared to her own Liberty Girl shirt. With a sullen face and a gaze that lacked that familiar spark of innocence, the Lost Girl looked her modern counterpart dead in the eyes.

"You really shouldn't go in there... It's dark, scary, and the shadows of bad men stretch over little kids like us." She speaks, her soft voice posh and distinctly English.

"Bad men?" Rhionnan looked at her little mote. "You were right! This is the right place to be." She gave a little giddy leap of joy. "Where are they? I can take them. I'll use these!" Rhionnan reached into a small Liberty Girl backpack (matching with her shirt, shoes, and wristband) and pulled out a couple of tennis balls. She tossed them up and down a few times, their heft seemingly heavier than expected for the item in question. "Show me where they are and I'll help you."

Meanwhile, your spirits also note that the sergeant has pulled out his cell phone and began texting Detective Breckenridge. "Are you certain that everything is taken care of on your end?"

He waited a moment and then a buzz came across his cell. The reply read, "We are fine. There are enough tracks to create a trail. There always are, but a trail doesn't get you a deer."

"What do we do if this... 'hunt' is called off?"

"We make sure there aren't any spotters who can point them out."

"Callenholt?"

"Make sure there is blood on her hands. She can't pull the trigger if shes in the cross-hairs."

Vincent murmured the details of the other conversation while quickly hashing a plan into action regarding the would-be-superhero but actually-just-a-cooling-corpse if she had gone through with her plans uninterrupted.

~

The girl's expression barely changed with the revelation Rhionnan wouldn't budge so easily, until an idea sprang into her head via tether. Eyes brightening, she smiled at the living girl and hopped a few steps to the left. "Alright, if you want to help... You have to follow me first! I'm the only one that knows how to get past the guards after all~"

"Oh right. That sounds like a good idea! Show me the way to go and I'll kick some butt." Rhionnan said, gathering her things together.

"Seems I'm being forced to start our plan. Damn children... Always meddling in our mysteries." Growled the medium.

~

She moved with the speed of any young child who just met a new friend and was trying their best to impress upon them, turning around with a skip every few feet just to make sure the other girl was following. "Alright! First we gotta sneak by these cars. Shh...! I think I saw a lady over there. She might be a baddie too..."

Little would Rhionnan know that she'd been led right into the staging area, and one Renee Callenholt was still making her way back from the van from earlier. The police would know what to do with a metahuman girl trying to play hero, and it'd give her some incentive to talk to the woman as well.

Rhionnan drops low next to the car and tries to keep out of sight.

[Stealth check: 16 vs 17 (passive perception)]

Renne Callenholt looked over at the little girl hiding behind a car. They were still nearly a quarter mile from the casino so that didn't worry her. It was worrisome that she was being watched though.

Rhionnan dropped back further pressing her back against the car door. "Ok Cassidy. I need you now. Spiorad an ádh agus na cosanta, treoraigh mé agus troid ar son an cheartais." Her voice changing to match an irish accent that she didn't have herself. Suddenly the little mote wafted from her ear and moved to the trunk of the car she was hiding behind and that is when you see him.

Cassidy appeared out of a cloud of light and flowers. Despite the lack of a working nose, the girl you are seeing through could practically smell the grass and fields. He was about four and a half feet tall with short red hair, and dressed in an almost offensively Irish outfit; he was green head to toe. His hat added another six inches to his height with a black and gold buckle around the top. He wore a lime green shirt under his forest green jacket with buttons made of onyx and abalone. His pants matched his jacket perfectly and were somehow pressed to have a perfect crease. Sitting with his legs crossed he said, "Hello Rhionnan. Top of the mornin' to ya. What do ya need today my álainn?"

"I am on a case. There are bad people here and my new friend here told me that that woman might be with them. Can you help me find out what is happening here?"

Cassidy looked over at Renee, who is still trying to figure out if she needs to do something about the twelve year old girl, and then looks where Rhionnan pointed out her new friend. "Why I'd love to help you darlin', but I have to point out that I cannot see your good friend."

"What do you mean? She is right here. I followed her here to this place."

"I am afraid tha' that place is quite empty. If you are not pullin' my leg, then she may be the first problem you need to deal with."

The Lost Girl turned towards Renee with an almost impish grin, grasping her hands behind her back and leaning forward, her brown locks falling forward to frame her face. In the gentle breeze of the early evening, not a single hair was swept out of alignment. "Well, you never did ask if I was really there, you know?" Her form flickered as if her film reel had hit a dead spot in it's playback. "Sorry about this, I really would've liked to play for real... But you really shouldn't be here right now. Hmm... Hug and make up?"

Without waiting for a response, the phantom girl trotted forward a few steps to try and grab the girl, in an attempt to hold her in place.

And now to try and figure out how many ranks I can shift into a dynamic effect... maybe 4?
Poltergeist(Grab): 7 Yep, that ain't happening.

[OOC: 4 was about right. Might have been 5, but that still wouldn't have been enough. Also, I need to use something fun.]

[Luck Field Roll: 12; -2 to attack roll. +5 circumstantial (because she cannot see the assailant]

Your ghost wasn't ready to try to catch a girl but she was pressed on by your will. Strangely though, as your ghosts arms moved out to grapple her, Rhionnan seemed to almost trip out of the way. A quick stumbling step and Rhionnan was back on her feet and facing her ghostly assailant.

"Okay Cassidy. Was have a job to do. Time to take on a bad ghost girl!"

Renee Callenholt has been watching this strange display of a girl yelling at the empty air above the trunk of the car in front of her and play fighting the empty air behind the car. "Excuse me little girl. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in school?" The last thing I need is a ditching middle schooler getting shot in my crime scene.

[Roll initiative if you want to continue this fight.]

"I don't deal with creatures, I deal with spirits. Two entirely different categories of annoyance." Vincent growled.

~

Initiative: 23 *rolls eyes* Of course that's what get's the nat 20.

"Alright, so maybe a lied a little! She's not actually a bad lady, I just didn't want to see you get hurt. So, can you please stay put out here and not in there?" She spoke with sincerity, once again trying to grab onto the living one's arm.

[There's no misinterpretation there, I assure. He doesn't consider supernatural creatures the same as ghosts/spirits.]

[Initiative Check (Rhionnan): 3]
[Initiative Check (Cassidy): 13]

[Luck Field: 16; -5 penalty to attack, +5 circumstantial bonus (invisible)]

Despite your ghosts invisibility, she was completely unable to get her arms around the slippery child, tripping on a small bit of ectoplasm. (What was that ectoplasm even doing there?!) Rhionnan stepped back, her balance steady despite the lack of proper posture or training.

"Stand back citizen. I am fighting this bad guy" Rhionnann shouted to the now concerned DA.

"Allow me, Rhionnan the Great" Cassidy Clover closed his eyes and raised his fist. Then he gave the best irish boxer swing he could.

[Attack Right hook: 15; DC 27 toughness resist if hit]

"I know what to do!" Rhionnan reached into her bag at the same time and grabbed a tennis ball. Winding up like a baseball pitcher, she hurls it in the general direction of the spirit.

[Attack check: 32 (Natural 20); Toughness Resistance 23, Alternate Effect - affects insubstantial (limited to ghosts and spirits)]

As Rhionnan lets go of the tennis ball, it seemingly curves toward your ghost and hits with an unnatural thump you are not used to. The ball explodes open on impact revealing that this ball seems to be filled at least partially with steel shot. The ball itself passed through your ghosts incorporeal form, but the steel balls hit like steel shot does.

The Lost Girl didn't avoid the first attack, and didn't even think to do the same for the tennis ball- Which resulted in her screaming in pain with all the wail of a little girl in the grips of absolute terror. It 'd be enough to shimmer the area with almost palatable dread- before she began to flicker and then abruptly vanish.

~

"How the hell-" Vincent gasps as he feels the Lost Girl's spectral shell utterly obliterated by whatever sort've attack that was meant to be. In truth the destruction of his spirit didn't actually do anything to hurt him physically or even spiritually. More it was the sheer shock that she'd managed to do anything at all to destroy it.

Vincent spat on the ground, bringing his hands to bear as he forcefully pulled the ghost back together. "That stupid child! Why do I even bother trying to save you from your foolishness? I should've just let you continue onto your death and come back for your ghost later."

Precious seconds are lost as he throws the reformed spirit back out into the staging area.

Remote sensing only, observe the fallout for a moment before I act.
