If skateboarding is Vehicles, JD is going to suck. If it's Athletics then he might be okay.

Is there anything like a school paper represented at the fair?

I'm trying to think of something to build with Tessa beyond "Bad girl" and might go full Veronica Mars- either an investigative reporter turned investigator or maybe the Spiderman route as an intrepid photographer.

While it is up to the GM, what I have usually seen is if the conveyance is self/muscle powered, use Athletics; if powered by some other source (including wind, like sailboats), use Vehicles. One of my other ideas spend some points on her BMX bike, using an Athletics specialty.

The visual of JD in his 'Stone Armor' on a skateboard is pretty amusing though...

Skateboarding will be using athletics over vehicles as it's skill. Basically if it's powered by something other than the user, it's a vehicle, but it's it pedal/push power then it's athletics.

CaptainChaos, both Volleyball and martial arts would be viable options here. They are both small clubs when you saw the stalls but they do exist. Martial arts can be for beginners as well, as at this age only a few people would have focused on such things chances are. There may also be a larger club somewhere like Del Haven if they wanted to get into it more seriously.

As a point for everyone, there are also things in town you can look into for weekends etc for the teenagers. Weekend jobs, the youth centre, stuff like that.

Pathfinder1i, there would indeed be a newspaper! You would have seen a very run down looking stall from the roof, probably not a popular club currently. However with interest from students such as Tessa it may well take off.

John may look into martial arts as well. It sounds cool.

No worries. I've been having trouble accessing the site for a few days. I kept getting an error message about the site being unavailable at this time.
