"Pfft, doesn't matter, whatever team I'm going to be on is going to be the best one". This new voice came from the kid in the leather jacket, Mat as he adds himself to the gathering. "I'm telling you guys, I'm going to put my name on this fucking place when I'm done".
JD, though not in his stone armor, barely moves at the strong teen's comraderic slap.

"Hey Joseph, yeah, pretty exciting. With all of the Principle's talk of covering each other's weaknesses they'll likely make teams with different capabilities and needs." He says after pondering the other's question.

"Like, with your strength and close fighting demonstration, Joseph, it's unlikely they'll team you with Vil. Too much overlap."

"Me, I dunno... I think I came off as real defensive-oriented in my powers. Maybe they'll put me with ranged folk that might need that, but who knows? There may even be more team balancing a week or month from now, or maybe mid year." JD shrugs.

As Mat comes up JD winces slightly at the curse word but otherwise doesn't make mention of it.

"Assuming you don't mean graffiti then I hope you DO,... It was 'Mat Kellher', right?" JD confirms. "I'm glad those sandbags didn't hurt you much." JD consoles, remembering the white-haired kid's strength test.

Mat turns to face JD, almost squaring up to him a little despite him being shorter a slighter. "And what if I do mean graffiti? You going have a problem with that dude?" He opens his mouth as if he was about to continue, but Joseph cuts him off with a loud laugh.

"Don't mind Mat, he always gets a bit nervous meeting new people".

"I'm not nervous" Mat would mutter, giving Joseph a look trying to tell him to be quiet. It would seem to be a look that goes straight over Joseph's head as he continues to smile blissfully.

As the group is talking, Sarah would see Lucy and her friends pass by, though they would make no comment to her. They had either not seen her or had chosen to ignore her, it was tricky to say which.

Looking around in general, the students would begin to notice other students from the school beginning to leave the building as the end of the day came. There were a lot more non-human species than it looked like at first glance. There wasn't only the 'standard' races either, there were some that looked almost alien with how different they were, perhaps stemming from some far off mythology. For the most part they seemed to blend in the same as the other students, chatting and laughing among their friends. The older students barely look down at the freshmen, though a few to pause to size up the newest members of the school.

With the students emerging the sound of engines can be heard as busses begin to pull into the yard, followed by some cars belonging to parents. Some students hope into their own vehicles, being old enough to drive or possessing a 'sidekick provisional' (some with supernatural powers could apply for a specialist licence if driving was required for their training or was relevant to their ability, allowing a student to get a licence a year early).

Sarah is unimpressed by the display of testosterone. When she sees Lucy go by she thinks about calling out to her but hesitates. When Lucy keeps going by without acknowledging her, she feels she made the right indecision.

"You said something about the bus?" She says to JD. "We should get over there."

JD waves placatingly at Mat though he resolved inwardly that he would most certainly would intervene if the teen was vandalizing school grounds with graffiti.

When Sarah speaks up he makes sure she's introduced around as they all get in line for the appropriate bus.

As the last bell rings, students begin to rush for their bus or make their way towards the car they were getting a lift in. Some would squeeze between the vehicles so they can walk home through the gates. Here and there a few students are launched into the sky using their powers, ranging from wings to energy trails to odd mechanical devices, avoiding the hassle of traffic altogether.

As the students make their way to their bus, they are surrounded by the thronging sound of chatter as students talk excitedly among themselves about their day. The older students have moved for the back of the bus, with the younger students filling out the centre. The freshmen here have been relegated to the front rows of seats. Balls of paper with flung about and students move from seat to seat as they talk among their friends, until eventually the bus drive twist around in their seat.

It is a different drive than this morning, this time it is a portly bald ban with some long bristles on his chin, almost like the hairs on a pigs back. The most notable feature of the drive is the single eye set in the centre of his face, almost the size of a grapefruit. "Alright you lot! Sit down and be quiet! I've got to keep my eye on the road!". With that he turns back around and the students quieten down, a little bit. With some jerky acceleration, the bus takes off and begins to follow the bright yellow convoy out of the school gates.

A few students wait around as the majority of the vehicles leave, waiting for their parents to come and collect them. Eventually one by one they are collected, until only AJ is left, stood by herself. The sun is beginning to drop as the winter days shorten the days. Aj would hear a set of footsteps from behind and would see the T.A., Mr Pemberly walking out of the school reception. He had changed out of the tweed style jacket and was instead wearing a t-shirt and jeans, accompanies by a pair of muddy sneakers. He stifles a yawn as he rummages through a pocket, pausing as he spots the remaining student.

"Hey, aren't you meant to have someone collecting you?" he would ask in the ever tired voice.

AJ Sullivan
HP: 1; LP: 0; Condition: Normal

Once they had all been dismissed, AJ followed the flow of students out to the parking lot. The first few minutes were interesting enough- it was pretty need to see a glimpse of the larger student population, instead of just her fellow new arrivals. There were even a few other kids that she recognized from here and there around town, and one or two older students who had been part of her brother's circle of not-exactly-friends.

She took a quick glance at her watch- her dad was going to come pick her up after school, but wasn't quite time for that yet. After a moment or two, she drew upon her powers, just a little, just enough to fly up to the roof where she could perch, out of the way of the swirling chaos of the departing crowds. Sitting on the edge of the roof she pulled a notebook out of her battered backpack and started writing a bit- some impressions of her fellow first-year students, both of their powers and their personalities (at least as much as she had seen). Then she started making mix-and-match teams, based on her own ideas, like some kind of logic puzzle. It would be fun to see how close she got to the teams that the school chose...

She was so involved in her brainstorming that she hardly noticed that almost everyone had left. The next time she looked down, the lot and sidewalk were all but empty. She checked her watch again- now her father was late. She hoped it was an honest mistake, just getting tied up in one of his projects, instead of passing out drunk again.

She floated back down to ground level and walked over to the edge of the lot, looking towards the street- nothing... She had just turned to march back to the building when Mr. Pemberly made his appearance. Despite his informal clothing he was still a grown-up, and an authority figure. AJ ducked her head a bit. "Well, yes sir. My father was supposed to pick me up after school. I guess he is just running late- sometimes he gets started on something and just loses track of time. I'm sure he'll be here soon enough." She looked down at her watch again. "I'll give him a few more minutes before I head home on my own- wouldn't want to miss him on the way. Next time I'll just ride my bike..."

Mr Pemberly rubs his chin as he listens to AJ. "Well, alright then" He glances back at the reception before continuing. "If you want to wait inside you can do. We're not really meant to leave students hanging around here on there own. Look, I've got to go, sorry". With that he would head over to a faded grey car. There were flecks of rust over the bodywork, and the engine has an awful squeal to it as he pulls out of the gate. More time passes, and still no one arrives to collect Allison, it looks as if she will have to make it home her own way.

The others are slowly dropped off one by one as the bus makes the rounds to their respective stops. JD is one of the last ones able get home, being as far out of town as he is. By that time the sun has almost set as he makes the walk back from the stop to the house. He can hear the sound of the radio as he approaches the house, his uncle almost religiously listened to the news in the evening.

Vil, John and a few other students who live in the urban area. As the pulls away, John sees his brother, Thomas. Thomas was taller that John, though they did look very similar. His hair was cut short and gelled ever so carefully into place. Standing up from the bus stop he waves John over. "Alright, come on short stack, let's go before mum freaks" Spotting Vil, he would gesture to him while talking to John. "Who's this dude?"

As Sarah is dropped off with a number of other students, she has a fairly short walk back home. When gets to the house, she sees that her brothers car is not back yet. It was not uncommon for him to be out late with friends and such, though her parents usually assumed he was studying or something similar.

"Thomas, this is my new friend Vil, and Vil, this my brother Thomas." John says as He introduces the two of them to each other. "Vil, I'll see you tomorrow." He says as He waves goodbye to his friend. Turning his attention back to his older brother, John replies. Bro, let's get going, no need for mom to get freaked out on the first day of school. I tell you that I had one crazy day of school." John then proceeded to tell his brother all about his day, as the two brothers make their way toward home.

Vil Grumych Granit
Luck (Inspiration): 3; HP: 1
Condition: apprehensive

Vil bids farewell to the others, greets Thomas, and begins the walk home from the bus station.

He's resigned to be alone for a few hours until Mama and Papa get home from their factory jobs. Normally that doesn't bother him much, but today he made friends a lot faster than he ever did in middle school, so their absence is likely to make him more lonely. Plus he doesn't have any homework to struggle through to occupy his time. At least he can watch soccer on TV.

JD was a little misted from jogging home from the bus stop. He and his uncle was initially concerned at how long the commute was as it'd be evening by the time JD got home from a school that ended at 3pm. JD assured Uncle Travis that it'd be fine. He could read and do homework on the bus and get in some good training to and from the stop. Travis was mollified with a wait-and-see attitude.

As JD entered the house the smells of fresh paint warred with Chinese take-out full of steamed veggies and orange chicken.

"Hey." JD called as he hung his light coat and set his thin backpack carefully down.

He went in to the kitchen where a veritable feast was laid out on the dinette. JD had known the first-day-of-school mini celebration was coming so wasn't surprised. But still, it was nice. The town he'd grown up in had nothing like Chinese take-out and it was quite phenomenal to the Southern teen. "Oh! You got those crab ragoo things. Neat!" he calls out loud enough to be heard in the sitting room where his uncle was presumably sitting.

Sarah checked out the others at her stop and then rushed home and to her room. No one was there when she got home. She immediately transformed back to normal in front of the mirror. As much as she complained about her powers, she was always fascinated by the process of changing. Her hair became long, black, and wavy. Her eyes were large and dark brown. Her jaw was a bit longer than usual. Her coloring when from a terra cotta clay to a light brown. She thought she looked a bit Latin american. She thought her skin color would complement JDs. This thought distracted her for a few moments.

Her breasts were larger than normal as was her backside. "I'm too curvy," she whined. Her old wardrobe was for her smaller frame. She spent a long time rummaging through her closet looking for something to wear.

Thomas grins as he pushes John ahead before shoving his hands deep into his own jean pockets. "So how was school? You going to be a big fancy superhero then? He would laugh at this as they walk home. Thomas was always ribbing his younger brother about his powers and going to what he had dubbed 'the special school'. Pushing the door open, he would be greeted by the hubbub that was his home.

There was a hissing and a crackling coming from the kitchen as his mother worked on dinner, and by the sounds of things his sister and father were having an argument in the living room. The house wasn't the worst place to live in this residential area, but at the end of the day it was still a flat, stacked between many others. The sound of the traffic outside fades as the noise inside overtakes it when the door is shut.

As Vil gets home, he is surprised by how cold the flat was when he walked in. His parents normally leave the windows on the safety catch to try and let the cold air in, but this was colder than that. As he walks into the apartment he hears the loud hum of the air conditioning, and hushed voices of his parents in the bedroom. It was a rare occasion that they would turn on the air conditioning, a treat for special occasions and such. His mother had spent a good couple of weeks tweaking the mechanisms to try and recreate the cold from back east. It was impressively close, but it cost a lot to run. It was especially odd that they were home however. Had they taken a shortened shift today?

When JD calls out to his uncle, he is met by the shout of "shoes!" from the living room. Tracking mud into the house was something of a pet peeve for his uncle. The smell of food was strong all through the house as JD sat down to the meal. He could just about make out the outline of his uncle in the darkened living room. As age and rank had come over Travis his face had begun to grow lines, and he had gained a little girth. Still, he was considered by most to be a handsome man. His actions and words carried a gravitas that came from his service in the military. JD's uncle had spoken little of his work in the military, but JD had seen some of his medals. Travis had served during the Korean reclamation, the destruction of Cambodia, he had been a part of a number of brutal campaigns abroad. Shortly before taking in his nephew, he had taken the role he had now, in charge of the local base. Eventually he stands up from the living room and marches into the kitchen. Sitting down opposite JD he begins to place his own portion on his plate. "So, how was your first day?" he asks in his usual stern tone. "Did you do well?"

JD hastens back to the foyer to remove his shoes. When he turns back intending to get the mop he realizes any mud that he tracked in had collected itself into a pile and moved across the floor, leaving nothing behind, climbing into a potted plant as JD watched. He knew if he thought about it too hard the process would stop so he stayed still until the mess had cleaned itself. His powers unnerved him sometimes.

JD returned to the dinette.

Sternness was a Daniels family trait but the way it manifested in Uncle Travis was far easier to deal with than his zealot of a father so JD maintained proper decorum. "I believe I did well, Sir." JD answers. "I could stand to improve when it comes to throwing a dodgeball." he admits. "And I think... I think I may be stronger than we thought initially." he says remembering the dome he created to block off from Vil. "There's a troll in my class that couldn't lift a stone dome I made, but I was able to move it... barely, but still." JD says.

School was interesting, I made a couple of friends. They are supposed to divide us into six person teams as part of the training regimen they have set up. That's all I know so far, how about your first day? What was it like? John listened intently to what his brother had to say. Even though Thomas ribbed him, John still looked up to him.

Avoiding the argument between his Dad and sister, he made his way to the kitchen where his Mom was. "So Mom, what's for dinner?"

At the mention of dodgeball, a smile would crease Travis's face. "It's good to know some things never change. I always hated dodgeball. Every time I threw the ball, Micheal Pickley always caught it. I knew you would surprise yourself with your abilities though. You never give yourself the credit that you have earned". It was a common criticism from JD's uncle when he had seen JD train. "I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't come up as the top of the class" his uncle would state.

Thomas shrugs in response to Johns questioning. "Ah, it sucks, I knew it would. I don't know anyone and the teachers are arseholes already. All the cool kids have got their cars already so I'm starting at the bottom of the friggin' ladder again. When I get my car, maybe I can finally get back to visit my friends".

As John moves into the kitchen she would be met with the smile of his mother as she wipes her hand on her apron. "Stew tonight". As she says this, the groan of disappointment from his brother can be heard as he passes by. Her smile turns into a scowl as she shouts after him. "Hey! You'll eat what your given if you want to eat at all!" The groan is repeated as Thomas moves into his room. John's mother sighs before turning back to face him. "So, how was school today?"

As Sarah is getting changed she hears the front door slam, quickly followed by heavy footsteps on the staircase. The only person who usually runs around the house was her brother, he must finally be home. As he passes by her room he can be heard muttering "ugh, where the hell is it?"
