(IC) Gulf State Guardsmen (RCU)

Post by Ken »

It's 10:37 am, Eastern time.

You are one of nine apparent parahumans are standing in the press conference room in a small federal office building in Miami. The building is the Parahuman Security Bureau's Miami District Strikeforce headquarters. The nine of you are standing where the press normally would. This is the room that could both accommadate your number, and is already designed for people without security clearances to use.

In front on you, a woman in black and grey armour, although with her helmet off, is standing at a podium, flanked by two other Strikeforce officers in their full gear. The woman is Harriet Parsons, the Stikeforce District Chief

"Ladies, gentlemen, thank you for responding to our outreach so quickly," she says.

Earlier today, a Stikreforce reached out via media, new media, and interagency communique, to any Florida based parahuman heroes. The nine of you are the responders.

"This morning we received word that the Eight-Dread are planning an assault on Disney World," Chief Parsons continues. "And given the Eightdred's brief track record of misdirection we have to take this warning seriously, but also with a large grain of salt. We know they like misdirection."

----------------------------- Genral Knowledge --------------------------------------

About six weeks ago, seven parahumans, later identified as part of a group called "Eight-Dread", attacked the National Mall in Washinton D.C. causing Pandamonium. Washington's new team, the Allied Defenders stopped the seven of them but realised too late that the "Mall Brawl" was a distraction. During the brawl, an eighth member of the villain team had assassinated (via decapitation) the two candidates for President who had arrived particularly early for a meeting where the candidates from all six major parties were going to address a joint session of Congress. [President Lynn Franklin (incumbant, Freedom Party), Senator Burt Kelley (Justice Party), Mark Lewis (Libertarian Party), and Minnesota Governor Montgomery "Monty" Stryker (Reform Party) remain in the race.] The ninja-like assassin escaped.

Chief Parsons is a no-nonsense type of woman and wears her conviction on her face. Her neck-length mousey-brown hair is pulled back tightly into a short ponytail. She wears no distinguishable makeup. Her 5'9 frame is at full attention while addressing you, and you can tell by the way her men echo her stance that she doesn't tolerate slack in her subordinates. Along with the standard Strikeforce body armor and duty belt, she wears a Smith & Wesson .44 Remington Magnum. Her armor seems to be well-used, missing the spit & polish of her fellow officers, which could be taken as someone who is too busy to spend precious time on such things.

She continues to speak. "My officers and I are going to go investigate the reported threat. We would ask that you watch out for other attacks, in case our suspicions are correct and this is a decoy. Any questions or concerns?"

Amongst the small crowd was a smaller crowd collapsed into a single form, Citizen Quartet was a more well known face, albeit whether he was qualified for the task or not was certainly up for debate. A group of political assassins and general mayhem-raisers had disturbed the peace and rendered the American Democratic procress slightly less free, and thusly less American. As a citizen, he couldn't stand for this.

Now, they not only had the audacity to kill two primary candidates, but threaten a family resort and well-known tourist attraction. "Those FIENDS!" shouted the rather stereotypical hero of justice, striking a dramatic pose as if in some shakespearean stageplay.

When it was mentioned that they were known for misdirection, and that they weren't going to be defending Disney World from this threatened attack, he adjusted himself to a more presentable stance and awaited others to ask questions. He didn't have any right off the top of his head. Just needed to beat down some anarchistic punks posing as some kind of organized unit against the status quo, nothing new.

King Croc
Wallace G. Dorre
HP 1

Among the small crowd of superhumans, the hulking avatar of Sarcosuchus Imperator (Flesh Eater Emperor Crocodile) had to wonder why he'd been contacted. he wasn't exactly built for "rapid response". Scanning the group again, his eyes settled on the plant-thing and he silently edited his mental designation to super-beings. Finally, he cleared his throat (a sound which somewhat resembled a giant snake battling a wood chipper) when it appeared nobody was going to speak...besides striking a dramatic pose...and raised his armored hand.

"Will there be vehicles available to transport those of us who don't really have stunning land speed? Most of my work is done in or near water. Dry land and I aren't the best of friends."

MANGROVE HP: 1, Condition: Normal

A figure in a tattered hat and coat also spoke up. The garments looked almost as if they were barely holding back the mass of plants that laid within from springing forth.
"Do we have an idea of likely targets?" the figure asked in a strange, hollow voice.

"We will make sure to leave a couple of Air-imus squad cars here for your use, if they're needed."

[OOC - The Air-imus is a brand of hover-cars that are produced by Lexington Incorporated, specifically for government and Parahuman use in crime-fighting.]

"They've threatened the most likely of targets, but Florida isn't short on public and governmental locations of interest. I would say that anything is fair game to them as long as its not in the vicinity of the park."

Magnaflux
Hero Points: One.
Conditions: None.

Seth listened to the briefing, even to the point that he pulled a small note pad and proceeded to make notes. Short of the infiltration and assassination expert, he couldn't recall the remaining members operational specializations. That was information he needed to know, that they, needed to know. He turned, taking in his fellow teammates, "These guys seem political, they make a statement after their D.C. operation? President Franklin have any business in Florida, he in state currently, could be a target? Other surviving delegates in the area?"

He looked over towards the massive lizard-like man, as he spoke, then again, as the vined trenchcoat and fedora stood up. "Knowing what we're up against is probably our first order of business. Any chance the Defenders are willing to share notes on the seven they encountered at the Mall." He paused, looked towards the assembled paranormals, "I'm used to knowing my teams specs, and operating style, it makes working with them easier. Names Seth, media's been calling me Magnaflux." He shrugged, "Magnetism, it's what I do."

Shaper
HP: 1
Condition: None

Shaper looked up from the display on his left gauntlet, showing one of his design projects on one half of the screen while showing a news feed on the other. He was very conscious of how he looked amidst the crowd of super-beings (one of the joys of media attention and a perfect memory).

"Should we be coordinating patrol to look at other potential targets, or would you like those assembled to be on standby at one location monitoring feeds and situations for rapid response?" Shaper asked, looking towards Chief Parsons. Shaper really wasn't clear here on if the assembled group was to be acting independently, or to provide more force to any Strikeforce response. In a heated situation like with the Eightdred, it would help to know who had authority, and how they can use it.
"I'm used to knowing my teams specs, and operating style, it makes working with them easier. Names Seth, media's been calling me Magnaflux." He shrugged, "Magnetism, it's what I do."
Shaper nodded towards Mangaflux. "You can call me Shaper I guess, since everyone seems to since the CREST incident. I can shape and make base matter, as well as being fairly handy with a computer."

King Croc
Wallace G. Dorre
HP 1

After listening to both Magnaflux and Shaper, Wally shrugged. "Right. What do I do? I'm a great big monster who lives in the Everglades and I do the kinds of things to criminals that you expect a great big monster to do. I'm strong enough to mangle steel, tough enough to repel small arms fire and when I die I'll probably become a damn fine pair of boots."

"I'm pretty simple really. What you see is what you get."

Of course that wasn't 100% true, but he didn't know any of these people well enough yet to reveal it was a magic potion that allowed him to change into a great big monster or that he had some magical training that occasionally allowed him to create minor widgets.

"Oh yeah, and my name is Sarcosuchus Imperator, but you can call me King Croc for the sake of convenience."

[OOC - I'm going to let Ken reply with Parsons, but I just wanted to throw out there that, every once in a while, we'll miss catching a Complication to award a Hero Point for. If we do, please feel free to point it out to us so we have the chance to award it if we agree. We don't want anyone missing out just because we're still getting to know your characters. :) ]

OOC: Actually, President Lynn Franklin is female. Despite knowing a man named Lynn, I tend to think of 'Lynn' as a woman's name, and forgot to make her gender clear. Mea culpa. She and her husband are also black.

I am assuming that Magnaflux thought "she". :)

"The Allied Defenders gave my colleagues in the D.C. office detailed notes, and we have those along with the notes made by the arresting officers.," Parsons explains, in response to Magaflux's query. "Rodriguez?"

One of the other two officers stepped to the podium, as his boss stepped away. He opened a manila folder as he set it down.

"They're apparently led by a man calling himself Doctor Might. He appears to be an evil Captain Miracle wannabe: flight, strength, resistance to injury. There are two 'animal people'," Rodriguez looked at King Croc, "A man called Narwhal, and a teenaged girl called Elephanteen."

He paused, and then continued, "There's one who's fast and strong, with an oversized mouth. Apparently he can conduct electricity through his bite. He's called Shockin' Gnaw. There's a mad roller derby skater called Derby Doll. There's a flying speedster whose costume is covered with razors using the name Racer Blade. And there's one with the name Brownian Movement."

The other Strikeforce officer who had been escorting Parsons gave a loud snort as he swallowed an outburst of laughter. Rodriguez and Parsons both gave him dirty looks.

"Apparently it's a scientific term, and his powers have to do with him controlling his molecular cohesion," Rodruiguez then finished. Pasons glanced at Phase at this point.

Wraith
HP:1 Cnd: Fine

'Misdirection or not, the threat shall be dealt with. We can do no less..." The voice was eerie, barely above a whisper, yet clearly heard by all. As it's sound fades back into a momentary silence, the shadows about the room writhe and flow, gathering in a mass that rises from a dark corner, in the form a of man that glides silently forward. He carries an air of menace that is almost tangible...a feeling of something barely held back...something...hungry.

The man stands there for several heartbeats, his eyes flowing over all who are standing in the room. His eyes flare slightly when they pass over Mangrove and King Croc. His gaze finally ends at the man now known as Magaflux, " I am Wraith...I can control...I am...shadow. Things in the dark that go bump, fear me...because the dark belongs to me."

When the team rolecall was declared, Douglas pondered how best to introduce himself, unfortunately allowing a few people to push ahead of him in order. He had to think fast, or his enthusiasm would look even more corny than usual.

Striking a pose, he would begin, "I am a hero of justice! The good samaritan who always saves the day!" He shifted his pose, "Wherever crime and evil seeks to do harm, the people of Miami can be assured I'll be there!"

Winding up for a final pose, he would activate his power belt, and suddenly, side by side, lined up in a neat little row, there were four of him, or like, 4 differently colored individuals who were dressed like him and spoke like him in unison... The pink one was a girl, everyone could discern rather easily: "I am justice fourfold. The one-man band who plays the crashing cymbals of freedom and good! I am: Citizen Quartet!"

The Power Ranger-looking fellow(s) would remain in their final pose for a few seconds. The only issue was that their poses were neither the same, nor coordinated. Citizen Pink, due to her summon placement wound up a little too close for comfort to the grimdark shadowgoth fellow, and without altering her arm placement, she shifted her feet in an attempt to subtly shuffle away, but looked awkward in doing it instead of subtle.

As Citizen Quartet held their pose, probably for a few moments too long, Parsons turned back to Magnaflux, answering his question before the introductions could continue. "President Franklin is in Washington. Nominee Lewis is in New Jersey, Governor Stryker is in Minnesota and Senator Kelley is campaigning in Seattle. So no, none of them would be the target."
