As you watch the events unfold, the larger male is probably homeless given the state of his clothes and the strands of hair sticking out from under his baseball cap. You aren't able to really identify if the group is part of any gang, much less the one you are on the lookout for.

The man seems unperturbed, sidestepping jibes and pokes with ease. You may not quite hear it, but the glint of a streetlight off the metal of a switchblade opening is unmistakable.

"You know where they are, Alley Trash." Knife Wielder says, advancing menacingly. "Tell me, and I might let you keep that natty hat of yours."

You can swear you hear Homeless snarling as he takes up a more defensive position. "You know what I know, Kid. I am looking for them just as hard as the rest of you."

The bolt is squeezed within his foot, not being put away but not being hurled yet.

A thoughtful glance on over towards Israfil and Ariel. He reaches up, gesturing towards his mouth in a coned hand before thrusting his hand out silently. Tilting his head in question afterwards? It's a common enough tactic, to snarl out and act all gargoyle-y to terrify someone. Usually with Israfil actually asking the words but with Ariel just being well.. a terrifying kind of cute.

It worked great at Halloween.
We rise from the ashes so that new legends can be born.

Ariel was confused. Were these the gang they wanted to keep or an encroaching gang? There wasn't enough context in their conversation.

At an unspoken agreement, Min dismounted to keep watch here. Ariel, for her part, crept into the shadows then bounded a roof or two away. The gar-dog had gotten the scents of the homeless man and the young men [Extended scent] and afixed those firmly in her mind. She started checking the surrounding neighborhood for scents [Acute sense]. The incumbent gang's scent should be lingering with more prevalence. She'd be able to compare.

The group of young men display no colors or identifying marks to announce allegiance of any real kind. Not even a visible patch or logo. And the scent of the homeless man is... off. He doesn't smell as "badly" as his clothes suggest. His scent is more... primal.

But is fairly easy for the Garg-beast to determine that the scent of those accosting the man are "local."

You think you catch the homeless man's nose twitching and the smallest shift of his head as if he notices something in your direction if not your group outright...

Min speaks, low and hushed but not with the rush of urgency. "Ariel has found the scent of gang of kids is ingrained around the neighborhood. They're locals." the diminutive gar-girl says. "And that man is 'not right' somehow."

Ariel comes quietly padding back as Min continues to watch. She pulls back. "You don't think he senses us do you?"

Evie lifted her own nose to the wind and sniffed, trying to catch the odd scents wafting up from the confrontation below.

Unfortunately, the wind was blowing the wrong way. There was also apparently dust in the air making things hard to see and the construction nearby was rather loud as well. At least that's what she surmised. It could just be her though.

Something is apparent in watching the exchange. There is animosity between the young man and the older man, but a lack of tension in the air. There seems to be no indication that this will come to anything when you watch closely... It's almost staged, no, not quite staged... but definitely not what it appears to be.

Is this perhaps an exchange of info between informants?

Ariel pads quietly back to the edge overlooking the scene of confrontation. This could be a scene of business as usual here and no one was in need of protecting as far as she could see.

Min remounts and they settle in to wait and observe.

The girl watches and again sniffs the air, hoping the wind has changed. It was annoying, but the spirits had a strange sense of humor sometimes and liked to make mischief. "This place is so strange now." she muttered. "So do we simply watch for now?"

"Patience of the Mountain." Izzy says, his fingers going through the motion of a song on his flute even though he's not blowing through it to produce sound.

"These seem to be the incumbent gang and they seem to be working with the reluctant vagabond searching for something. We can ask the vagabond after he parts ways with the ruffians. If they trust him with this task he must be competent and would be a good contact for us to have."
Izzy reasons. "Alternatively we can introduce ourselves to the whole kit-n-kabootle now and ask what they're so concerned about. I don't see a scenario where it doesn't end in either violence or them thinking they're lording over us with intimidation tactics. But maybe I could pull off a stellar feat of Diplomacy." Izzy shrugs.

"Or we can go off and look around for trouble more in the style a problem we an claw our way through." he offers.

Cassielle's swim had been refreshing, and it was hard to tell what was normal activity in this strange new world... but there had been others in the river. Mostly commercial traffic but she had noticed what looked like salvage or recovery in the water. Perhaps something to explore another night? As she circled the city, or at least the section of the city that her clanmates had said they would be going, she spotted them easily enough...

Meanwhile, the exchange continued below the group, and you finally hear what you were waiting for.

"The latest kid that's missing is my little brother." the lead tough guy says, "Bet you'd be acting different if it was one of yours." He spits on the ground in disgust, but there is no follow up insult, in fact no insult at all... "Go on, get out of here."

They part, allowing the older man to walk freely forward. He shoves one back as the younger man grabs at his jacket, but no one else moves.

"I'll find her." The older man says. "I'll find all of 'em."

The group watches as moves through their number, and then turn and move on. A few second later, he turns back and looks at your location. Gesturing with his head as if to say, you coming?

If you watch the group, they split up and head separate ways a few minutes after leaving the "company" of the old man.
