Lan

The monk pulled her senses back from those of her spirit animal in time to hear the plight of the two figures.

"Sounds like they might need escorts back to Phandelver." she concludes. She checks the owl's eyes to see who the dwarf was yelling at. Who were these 'criminals' that were trying to up their fees post-agreement? Which was silly - If you truly wanted to screw someone over you'd wait until mid trip and threaten to abandon him on the road unless he paid the higher rate, money up front, of course. That way you had leverage. To do otherwise would be like trying to break an arm without establishing the proper grip first. Of course, she wouldn't do such a thing.... unless times truly warranted such action, of course. Still, she wanted to get a measure of these men.

"We could offer such road protection services." she says distractedly.

Jack

Jack started back towards the table, seeming to have had no luck in finding the grand ingredients for the street vendor treat.

"We could, we could. It could be why the Fates have brought us all here. More than a few questions to be asked before agree to such a thing of course. So many, many questions. Could be a fun trip, but is it one that would be worthwhile?"

A quick glance around the entire place, looking for other adventuring types that might take up on the offer. Competition. None quite as impressive as those at the table, but when shoddy service is needed, quality has a way of being overlooked.

Abigail Bright, Junior Lorist
AC:17 (Scale+Dex+Shield) | HP: 17 | Init +2 | Passive Perception: 13
Spell slots 3x1st | Bardic Inspiration 4

Abigail frowns looking around at her companions.

She pushes away from the table and approaches the dwarf and his companion making sure her religious symbol is prominently visible.

"Pardon. I am from the Sacred Library in Phandelver. Curiousity is both a vice and virtue to us, so no offense is intended. May I ask what your issue might be and it there is a way I might offer assistance." While talking she proffers one of the pouches. "Mint drop?"

"Feisty on eh? Come along lad, let's see what the trouble is why don't we?" He says, pulling himself up with a grunt using his cane. The sorcerer leaned into it as he walked, following just behind Abigail. Seeing the dwarf he instinctivly squared his shoulders and stood with purpose, even if he didn't have any actual business with them.

"Just as the girl here said. If you lot our having trouble, it's only right to offer a hand if you're capable, hm?"

Jack

The 'lad' flashes Lord Tully a bit of a grin, his eyes lighting up in mischief. "Right behind you."

His approach differs a bit from his companions, not quite so directly, perhaps slipping behind a larger individual, or a pole, something to break line of sight.. and changes, in form and in function.

One moment, a jester, a jack about town, a lazeabout, dressed in the bright colors of a member of a performing troupe...

a moment of change, a few soft words, a few wiggles of fingers (disguise self)

... and from the other side emerges quite a different person. Humble and honest, a salt of the earth, strong of arm and golden of heart, a man just starting out, looking for an opportunity to prove himself, a man with plans and looking for a hard working way to get there.
We rise from the ashes so that new legends can be born.

Everyone:

Jarrak , you actually know the dwarf making all the noise; Gundren Stonebreaker is your third cousin by marriage in your adopted family. While you wouldn't say the two of you are close, but you are familiar enough with one another that you can pick the other out of a crowd. It is at this moment that Gundren sees you in the tavern, a smile quickly spreading across his face as he begins to stand up and likely approach you.

However, before he is able to Abigail, Tully, and Jack have made their way over to his table with Abigail being the one to speak to him first.

"Pardon. I am from the Sacred Library in Phandelver. Curiosity is both a vice and virtue to us, so no offense is intended. May I ask what your issue might be and it there is a way I might offer assistance." While talking she proffers one of the pouches. "Mint drop?"

The dwarf listens to Abigail’s question with a slightly confused face at first but as she goes on his confusion gives way to a new, wide smile. “The sorry lot I’d hired to escort mine and my business partner’s belongings to Phandelver have turned yellow hearted because of rumors that the Orc tribes are gearing up to go on the war path like they did before.” He sighs before he takes a long drink from the mug that had been put in front of him. “So unless you happen to know some people willing to replace those worthless pebble breakers I doubt there is much you could do child.” He shakes his head when offered a mint drop, instead opting to take another drink from his tankard.

Tully adds. "Just as the girl here said. If you lot our having trouble, it's only right to offer a hand if you're capable, hm?"

The dwarf looks Tully up and down in that appraising manner and apparently coming to a satisfactory conclusion gives a quick nod of his head. “Well met sir.” He says, recognizing the markings Tully wears. “I am Gundren Stonebreaker and this,” he says gesturing towards his human companion “is Silas Blackstone, my business partner.”

Could Lan, looking through Kai's eyes get a good look at this 'sorry lot' the dwarf refers to?

Jarrak of Blackmoore
HP: 26/26 | AC: 18/20 (shield) | Init: -1 | Perception: 10

Jarrak leaves his mug at the table, and stands. His first two steps reveal a limping gait that favors his left leg, but by the third step his stride evens out.

"Gundren," Jarrak says with a big smile, arms open wide, "It's good to see you again."

"Might that an old vagabond sit and share a drink with you?" He says cheerfully, "You can tell us your woes and I can introduce you to a rag-tag group of travelers who might just be able to solve them."

Abigail nods.

"Yes, we've many stout adventurers amongst our number." She gestures to the table where they came from. "What is your caravan size and cargo? How many people are you looking for?" She looks to Uncle Jarrak. "We can ask things like that, right?"

"Gundren," Jarrak says with a big smile, arms open wide, "It's good to see you again."

Gundren smiles as he stands up. "I thought that was you sitting over there Jarrak." He says as he opens his own arms wide and gives the Half-Elf a hug. "It has been too long since you and I have a had a chance to talk."

"Might that an old vagabond sit and share a drink with you?"Jarrak says cheerfully, "You can tell us your woes and I can introduce you to a rag-tag group of travelers who might just be able to solve them."

"Of course, of course! Please join us Jarrak, and your "niece"." Gundren says, a hint of a question in his use of the family connection but nothing said outright, as he gestures to one of the bar maids to bring you a new drink. After a few moments of pleasantries Jarrk's drink arrives and Gundren shares his woes. "My business partner, Silas and I are moving to Phandelver to restart my family's old mining company. Our problem is that we need to get there as quickly as possible and wanted the men we hired to act as security to instead guard the carts we were transporting our personal belonging in while the two of us went on ahead to Phandelver but the rumors of the nearby Orc clans organizing themselves has apparently caused them to reconsider the agreement they'd made with us."

"Now we're left with three carts with nobody to watch over them or bring them to Phandelver."

Lan:

It only takes you a moment's concentration to tap into the magical link you share with your familar, Kai. Perched on the roof of the tavern the animal easily spots the group of Gundren's former employees; two Humans, a ragonborn, and a Half-Elf.

The Humans are dressed in leather and furs, likely barbarians of some kind while the Dragonborn studded leather armor is died so dark he easily blends into the darkness of the night and the Half-Elf is carrying a lute while wearing simple leather armor.

They aren't talking, instead they look to be leaving the town as they are heading towards the town's main entrance/exit.

He gave a nod at the acknowledgment, but was happy to let the youngin's take most the reigns. "Ahh, I've heard about your company before. Would be doing your ancestors proud getting back into the swing of things, hm? We can't let some rambunctious tribesman get in the way of good, proper mining now, shall we?"
