Re: Tales from the Trails (Soulbound) - Recruiting
Is anyone thinking they are missing anything or need more time, or shall I look through for a quick proof read of your characters and get us started?

A quick proofread of Sashuna's sheet would be helpful; can't think of anything else she'd need at the moment (or can't be purchased later if needed).

Re: Tales from the Trails (Soulbound) - Recruiting
I think I'm finished up, let me know if there's anything amiss or of there's ways to better optimize my layout.
I'd appreciate if you could explain more in depth the combat system, before we start it and make mistakes. We start with a certain number of action tokens and recover some each turn, yes, but how many are we able to spend in a turn? What stops us from blowing them all on attacks and then also spending 0AT to recover more? Are we limited to only a certain umber of actions specifically instead?

Am I dead? Am I alive? The answer may surprise you!

Re: Tales from the Trails (Soulbound) - Recruiting
I actually have the outline of combat in the first post, and the system is simple enough that there isn't much I can elaborate on.
Whichever side throws the first stone, as it were, goes first. There is no initiative rolls. Once the aggressor side is determined, all participants roll Recovery and start with theor number of hits +1 in action tokens.
On the players' phase, turns can happen in any order. Each player gets one action and one free action. The action token cost for each is listed in the combat primer on the first post.
Recovery itself is an action. It doesn't cost any tokens, but is the ONLY way to generate tokens. Tokens are required to defend yourself, so you are almost never going to want to burn through all your tokens. If you can do a defend action, you are at the mercy of the damage an enemy rolls against you.
To be more specific, you do NOT get action tokens each turn.
That said, there is no cap on action tokens. You could recover 3 turns in a row and generate 10 tokens and be set for multiple rounds. You can look at your action tokens as a gauge as to when you should consider a tactical movement to the rear to recover.
Effective token management and maneuvering is the key to survival in combat. And knowing when you are out matched and bailing out.
I should mention, that when any attack is made, defense should be declared BEFORE the attack is rolled. Yes, this means if the attack whiffs, the defender has still used an action token (or two) to perhaps no effect. (though, if parry or dodge were declared for defending, the secondary parts of those actions still go off)

It does seem like positioning, maneuvering, and the number of tiles away is important. Do you have a plan for doing that over a play-by-post format? Maybe supplement the text interface with Roll20 for map-sharing or some such?

Nah. It'll be fine. When deciding to try this with pbp, I opted to be more flexible with that kind of stuff to ease things up. That's why I was mentioning the distances with the ranges.
The game uses hexes which are 2m across, so it's an easy conversion and then just wing it from there.

It seems some spells last indefinitely, Fertile seems to be one. Looks like a good spell to do all over when we stop for the night, maybe with another wielder to take care of Haunts. It seems that Totemic lasts until the animal dies or it is dismissed. Can Moira's Bear just be escorting the convoy, maybe even with her riding the bear? (I understand it would have to be the base weapon as Duplicates only last an hour).

Some spells do when they say they do. Fertile and Totic as good examples. Some last a combat scenerio or a "reasonable amount of time" outside of combat.
So yes, you could ride your bear, or have it trundling alongside the caravan.

Re: Tales from the Trails (Soulbound) - (Full)
Sorry, busy couple days (and the next few are looking to be likewise).
I am aiming to get us started this Sunday, so if anyone has any questions before then, ask away. Everyone's sheets look just fine, I'm not too worried about the format of them (Though Arkrite, I think you forgot to actually label your flint lock. I couldn't find it on your sheet and had to hunt down your rolls to remember your bond weapon)
As a last touch, that is in no way manditory, you may name your bond weapons. It's not exactly customary but it's not uncommon either for a wielders bond to have a name. I'll give a bonus 10xp for a name though, whether you come up with it before we start or in 2 months.

Lloyd's was specified as 'Heartwood'.

Re: Tales from the Trails (Soulbound) - (Full)
Yeah, funny thing that.
I did notice that I forgot it, and then I updated it in the notepad I was using to build the character.
Aaaand then the power went out.
This being about five minutes after I posted my character.
So the good news is that I didn't lose my character, but the bad news is that I only thought I'd fixed that.
Whoops ;~)

Just to get It out there, Ark's character is still listed as not having a name.
Hmm... Weapon names huh?

I won't lie. I've considered changing it to "No Name" ;~)
Re: Tales from the Trails (Soulbound) - (Full)
Eventually the name for the furious totemic LMG will be Bearrage, like 'barrage' <bar·rage /bəˈrä(d)ZH/ noun. a concentrated artillery bombardment over a wide area.> Except with 'bear' instead. Bearrage. the fact that it is spelled with 'rage' is a fun incorporated pun.
