Okay, I'm basically done with my submission, and I'm going to put up the sheet in my next post. I need to finish typing in the end of her background, but everything else is ready, and there should be enough to enter the selection arena. I'll probably post my other idea as well- not as an official pitch, but for the sake of completeness (and maybe a guest star, as another member of the 100, since I spent all that time building her).

Natasha Rabinowitz got her start as a child actress, but that ended in disaster and years of institutionalized therapy. A clever therapist used Tasha's talented voice to unlock her self-confidence, and she has started to develop a real career as a voice actor. Right now, she is really looking for a solid job- her mother (who is also her agent) insists... The Palladium Studios reopening, with their intent to mix animation and live action, seemed like an ideal opportunity.

Tasha is fairly shy and quiet- unless she is speaking in somebody else's voice (or just a made-up one). She is smart, with a remarkable intuitive learning skill and a near-perfect memory- and an insider's knowledge of the entertainment industry. She is a very skilled voice actor, and that alone would be enough to make her notable. But the Palladium Event has given her an ability to warp reality- and turned a youthful fascination with Hide-And-Seek into something far more powerful...

>BACKGROUND:
-History: Magdalena was born in Boston. Her father is a native Spaniard , an astrophysicist who moved to then US to Do research at MIT. Her mother is Italian-American, part of an extended family who run a restaurant in the North End- it was Esteban's favorite restaurant, and the meeting was entirely a happy coincidence- happy for Esteban and Lucia, anyway; her family was NOT pleased by the match. They were even less pleased by the marriage a year later- and only a little pleased by the word of a daughter a year after that.

By then, Esteban and Lucia were living in a nice house in Cambridge- he was teaching as little as he could, so he could pursue his research into quasars, and she was working in the administrative offices down the road at Harvard. From her earliest days, Magdalena was a bright and inquisitive child- which her parents were glad to encourage. By the time she was 12, the garage out back had been converted to a workshop- her father liked to tinker just a bit in his spare time, and Magdalena began to work on projects of her own. She went to a science-focused charter school, and collected honors at every science fair she could enter. It broke her parents' hearts just a tiny bit when she decided not to attend MIT herself, instead choosing to travel all the way across the country to go to Caltech.

Her first few years went by in a rather predictable blur- Magdalena was an excellent student, even by Caltech standards, and she finished her undergraduate degree in Applied Physics in three years- her only relaxation was a constant stream of science-fiction books, television, and movies with various nerdy groups around campus. Luckily Hollywood was right around the corner- there were all kinds of lectures and outings to special effects studios, production facilities, and even movie premieres. Caltech was a great place to be a scientist, even a Brain among brains- but it was also a terrific place to be a Nerd.

Magdalena was in the first year of her Doctoral program when rumors started to swirl that the brilliant but reclusive (and maybe a bit weird) Doctor Jarrod Feldon would be in town for some kind of movie studio event. Magdalena was lucky enough to get an invite from one of her computer-jockey acquaintances. Most of the people at the event were there to land jobs- but she was after a much rarer prize.

She was wandering through the food court in search of Doctor Feldon when the incident happened- luckily she was blown clear of the worst damage instead of being absorbed into That Thing. She was dazed and disoriented for a while, but didn't seem to have been Changed, like some of the witnesses- she was released from the CDC quarantine with a number of other unaffected bystanders.

It took a little while for her to realize that she had been changed after all- and she wasn't about to call the CDC back- those soldier goons had been a real turn-off. But the new situation did kick her research interests into overdrive...


>Complications:
-Scientific curiousity/ excellence (Motivation): Magdelena has always been a curious young woman- when presented with a problem or a puzzle, it is hard for her to resist. Her ultimate goal is to use such research to make the world better- but in the end, it is the research, the finding out, the SOLVING which is the real draw for her. The Incident, and its aftermath, present a puzzle like no other- and even with her improved intellect solving this puzzle is going to keep her busy for a while.

-Identity (Secret): Magdalena is a grad student at Caltech- she has academic obligations, both in her classes and various research projects, including a part-time job as a TA and lab assistant. She doesn't want anyone to know who she is, or what happened- at leat not until she has figured it out for herself.

-Relationship (Roommates): Magdalena has three other roommates who share an apartment near campus. Two of them are fellow Caltech grad students, and one is a recent graduate and computer expert for a major studio's special effects department. There are the evolving friendships, petty rivalries, and occasional friction one might find in any similar arrangement. Maybe one of them wants or needs something (anything from an errand done to a partnership on a project), or maybe someone tries to get to Magdelena through them, if they have discovered her identity...

-"Don't become a Mad Scientist/supervillain" (Responsibility): Magdalena has a tendency to take thing seriously, almost all the time. In conversation she tends to wander into scientific jargon, or break into stern-sounding lectures. She is also deeply interested in her scientific endeavors, and much less interested in people and their feelings. It would be all to easy for her to drift down a villainous (or at least indifferent) path. She is basically a good-hearted person and wants to make the world a better place- but her opinion of "Better" and her methods might need some work. She could be presented with an ethical dilemma related to her research, or the development (or use) of her powers...

-Zero point conduit: Magdalena has become a conduit for an unusual form of energy related to the Incident. While it has some similarities to the normal spectrum of electromagnetic energy, it also has some fascinating differences. In addition to her own research into the matter, others might be interested in this unusual energy as well. Perhaps to simply study it- or perhaps to harness the energy for their own ends (and they might not be nice about it). In addition, the energy itself is a bit unpredictable- especially in the presence of strong electromagnetic fields; she probably shouldn't get an MRI, and she might not want to spend too much time around Chelsea (for both their sakes- maybe they might dampen one anothers powers, or experience explosive synergy). Her inventions and devices tend to rely on this energy- no one else could make them work right (or even understand HOW they work- except for Doctor Feldon).

-Hyperbrain (Power Loss): While her energy abilities are the most obvious change she has undergone, Magdelena has also experienced a quantum leap in her intellectual abilities- her brain has improved to the edge of human capability (or just a bit beyond). Anything that cuts off her dimensional 'conduit' would also weaken her new intellectual powers. If her dimensional ability is Nullified, her INT drops to 5, and her hyperbrain Advantages all become Unreliable- she is still incredibly smart, but no longer superhumanly so. Certain drugs or mental effects which might hunder her ability to focus might produce similar effects.

Description: Magdalena is a small and slender young woman. She has glossy black hair, typically worn in a rather severe short cut (After an incident in high school), striking grey eyes, and a slight olive cast to her skin courtesy of her ancestry. She rarely wears much make-up or jewelry and tends to dress in a serious, formal fashion- she also usually displays a serious, even sour expression, and despite her small size, she is often mistaken for someone much older. It is only among close friends (or other science-fiction nerds) that she tends to relax or smile.

In her newly altered state, she is capable of producing a small amount of unusual energy- this manifests as a soft silvery glow, shot through with thin multicolored fractal lines, rather like the residual "rainbow vomit" substance around the damage INC device. When boosted by her gauntlets, the energy aura is substantially more noticeable.

In the time since the Incident, she has produced a few helpful gadgets, and acquired a protective bodysuit (a repurposed suit of motorcycle leathers), and a heavily modified motorcycle helmet. But her primary invention has been a set of electronic regulator units, styled as wrist-and-forearm gauntlets, which allow her to store and focus the energy she produces. Obviously a battlesuit is next, right?

Ren comes from a troubled background, but she has made great strides n putting that behind her. With back ground in gymnastics and martial arts, she has begun to forge a career as a stuntwoman- her interest in parkour is, so far, really more of a hobby. For the most part, she tends to specialize in fight scenes and falls, but she will take whatever work is available- she is too new to the scene to be really picky. She supplements her income with a bit of training work (either fitness or self-defense), but her inability to speak means this is less frequent.

The Palladium Incident has increased her physical abilities to the edge of human potential (or, perhaps, slightly beyond that) but she is not OBVIOUSLY superhuman. BACKGROUND:
History: Erin Jackson was born and raised in Gary, IN- functionally part of the Chicago metropolitan area, and a city that has a well-deserved reputation as being made up entirely of "the bad part of town". Both of her parents were ex-bikers, with a number of unsavory contacts and habits. Erin (or as her parents called her "Little Wren", (a small and inconspicuous bird with a loud call, which turned out to a pretty appropriate nickname) was the youngest child in the family, with six older brothers. As one might expect, Erin grew up to be a bit of a tomboy- she made up for small size with an aggressive attitude. Instead of being protective, her older brothers tended to drag her along on their misadventures as soon as she was old enough. Her attitude might help draw attention away from them, and well, people just tended to go easier on a little girl that they would on any of the already infamous Jackson brothers...

Her parents made some half-hearted attempts to steer her towards more "girly" interests- dance and music classes were abandoned immediately, but she stuck to the gymnastics classes until she was 12, after the incident with her oldest brother Henry. With Erin and middle brother Edgar in tow, Henry had been carrying some contraband through a rougher-than-normal part of Chicago, and the locals decided to beat a lesson into him. Henry stayed behind to let Edgar and Erin get away. Edgar was kind of a weakling and Erin WANTED To help, but hadn't really learned to fight beyond childish roughhousing- and that cost Henry his life, as the beating turned fatal.

Erin, of course, blamed herself- conflating the inability to fight with cowardice. That would have been bad enough, except that her parents and her other brothers (even Edgar, who had been there) seemed like they blamed her too- maybe they weren't really, but Erin was sure that they were. And THAT was the end of gymnastics classes- but the gymnastics school shared a building with a dojo. Goodbye gymnastics, hello kung fu.

As it turned out, Erin had a talent for martial arts- the physical gifts that had fueled her gymnastics carried over, and she had the rare gift that few casual martial artists did; once a fight started, she could just throw the switch and GO! Admittedly, this wasn't great in amateur level sparring, but it would help her in the future (or so her sensei told her, right before he banned her from his classes). But that was not the only place in town.

With a little experience, Erin quickly got into more trouble, with and without her brothers- fights in school led to petty crime, from trespassing to shoplifting. The first few incidents got her a stern talking talking to- but one store security guy with a broken arm later, she was headed to juvenile hall. At first, she tried to fit in, seeking acceptance the same way she always had- by causing trouble or helping others do so. She fell in with a rough crowd in juvie- and hurt somebody to stay with them.

Which is, in the end, what changed her life- saved it, in fact, by the surest method possible, by ALMOST killing her. The person that she hurt had friends of her own- they caught Erin alone and beat her up, then cut her throat and left her for dead. She SHOULD have died that night- no one was quite sure why she didn't- the cut had been deep and savage, and had almost destroyed her voicebox, but somehow it hadn't opened up the major blood vessels in her throat.

So she lived, but she would carry the scars for the rest of her life. She was put in a medical ward, and allowed to heal. One of the night nurses had a fondness for Hong Kong action movies, and with nothing else to do, Erin started watching. Her family hadn't been much into movie watching, and certainly nothing like this- she was quickly enthralled. She saw the physicality she recognized from her own fighting training- but also the grace of her gymnastics days, and the complicated choreography; there was even a measure of slapstick comedy from time to time. She kept watching throughout her bed-ridden recovery, and her slow physical rehabilitation. To the extent her situation allowed, she trained, regaining her strength and her mobility. She could feel the old anger, still deep inside her, but it did not drive her like it had before. She had, in her own way, come to an acceptance of herself, which required her to discard many parts of her old life, like the desperate need for approval, especially form bad people. She also decided to discard some of the worst, most toxic people in her life- her own family.

She was released from juvenile detention once she turned 18, and her youthful records were sealed. Her brother Edgar was waiting outside when she was released, with a car that probably wasn't even stolen. He was supposed to take her home- but instead he took her to the bus station. She left that day, and has never even considered going home- it would probably end in screaming anyway, a fight, somebody dead and somebody else in jail. No thanks.

She decided, in the words of a great philosopher, to "walk the Earth, like Caine from Kung Fu". But deep down, she knew she was headed to Hollywood. When she got off the bus, she gawked around like a hayseed tourist- for a few hours. Then she went looking for her people. She knew she couldn't just walk in somewhere and land a job as a stuntwoman- but she needed to eat, and to find someplace to stay. She was headed to a scruffy little dojo she had found online when she got sidetracked watching a group of parkour practitioners at play- this was fascinating, and something she hadn't really experienced. She ended up watching the group for hours, and even tried out a few moves- and she has been hooked ever since.

She didn't make it to the dojo until evening, well past dinnertime even if she hadn't had dinner, and the guy in charge just threw her into the ring to test her out. Her first opponent was a moderately experienced stuntwoman with a background in gymnastics. Their first sparring match was a very acrobatic, entertaining contest- and the basis of a quick friendship.

Over the last year, Ren and Kendall have become close friends, even sharing living space (though they are rarely both there at the same time), They have helped one another in job-hunting, and through a lot of training and practice. Kendall has turned more towards training and fitness work, while Ren has done a lot of fall work and stunt-doubling, especially during fight scenes (she hasn't worked with anybody famous- YET, but ScarJo tends to burn through stunt doubles pretty quickly...). In fact, it was one of Kendall's contacts that tipped her off to the talent call at Palladium Studios- she, in turn, passed it to Ren (since Kendall had just started a new training gig coaching female executives in a high-energy routine).

Ren was near the edge of the improvised food court when the explosion happened- though luck and her exceptional reflexes she wasn't visibly hurt, and she passed the CDC examination easily. The soldiers hassled her a little, since they aren't that different from cops, after all- Ren made herself scarce before the real cops noticed her.

She has only started to notice that she seems different- and she isn't quite sure how to handle it. She hasn't discussed it with ANYBODY, even Kendall. Not yet...

Complications:
-Criminal record (Reputation?): Ren has a juvenile criminal record- now that she is an adult, those records are supposed to have been sealed and expunged, but certain authorities with more access than normal police might be able to get them (and try to use them for leverage). In addition, the police don't have her actual records- but they can just tell she is crooked and they tend to treat her accordingly (even though she is "Rehabilitated" now); this dislike tends to run both ways... This is also why she never carries weapons, or anything that even looks like a weapon (even her multitool has a very small blade)- though this might have to change...

-Mute: Ren cannot speak, due to injuries to her throat and voicebox. She can make some degree of vocalization (Similar, in many ways, to a cat- purr, soft growl, Mew), but any kind of words are impossible. She carries a number of pre-printed note cards with common words or phrases, has a text-to-speech app on her phone, and has learned ASL, but many normal interactions are difficult or impossible for her.

-Help out/ Do good (Motivation): This used to be "Acceptance", and she got in all kinds of trouble earlier in life seeking approval and acceptance. All of that changed when she learned the one of the central tenets of a true martial artist- if one seeks acceptance, one must accept oneself; the approval of others is secondary. It also helped when she started watching action movies (especially kung fu movies- she LOVES Jackie Chan)- she learned that she could kick butt and still be a Good Guy, if her reasons were upright. She has tried to live a "Knight Errant" lifestyle ever since- channeling the anger inside her to help those in need. ("CAN I HELP?" is one of the most often used cards in her deck).

-"Hey, watch it!" (Reputation): Ren has a lot of anger inside her (even if she has learned to channel it more positively), is notably stubborn, and is prone to physical solutions to her problems- she is also Fearless, which means she has a REAL problem backing down from confrontation. She especially hates bullies, and others who prey upon the weak or defenseless. Even if badly outnumbered or outgunned, she doesn't like to step back (And if she has to back down, she might be inclined to seek vengeance on better terms- better for her that is). She also has some issues with inappropriate escalation of force (or overkill). In addition, she tends to have a very aggressive posture and body language- anyone with Assessment or Danger Sense (or similar abilities) is likely to immediately realize she is dangerous.

-Resource management (Responsibility): Ren has a place to live, and she can usually scrape together enough work to provide for her basic needs- but she doesn't have a lot of money for luxuries. She might have a harder time than normal replacing lost or broken equipment, or a financial crunch might make her take a job she otherwise wouldn't (or at least consider it).

-Relationship (Roommate- Kendall Hamilton): Ren has only been in LA for about a year. She doesn't have a real crew of friends, only a few connections here and there, like a loose group of parkour enthusiasts, a few food trucks she frequents (more because they are cheap than for quality), a dojo/gym where she works out and does a bit of helping out, and a few casual acquaintances- the most prominent of whom is her roommate Kendall (the two of them met on the dojo floor and bonded over other common interests, including a youthful background in gymnastics). They share one bedroom in a ramshackle apartment building (with their schedules they are rarely there at the same time). In fact, it was one of Kendall's friends who got Ren the potential opening at Palladium Studios- since Kendall had just landed a better job as a 'fitness trainer'. Kendall has helped Ren out a bunch of times, and Ren would be glad to do her a favor- or something. (She might also jump at the chance to make some more friends) Kendall is just about the only person Ren will really relax around (or even rarely smile)- she calls Kendall "Tigger" because of her boundless energy; Kendall calls her "Honey Badger" (or more recently, just "Honey"- Ren isn't too sure WHAT to think about that).

-Relationship (parents/family): Ren moved to Los Angeles specifically to get away from her past (and her toxic family). She is pretty sure they think she's dead- and would be perfectly happy to never see any of them as long as she lives (even her brother Edgar, the one she was closest to out of the whole pack).



Description: Ren is a rather nondescript looking young woman, just a bit under average height, with a sleek, well-toned build (that of a runner or a martial artist). She keeps her hair cut short and spiky, and tends to maintain a serious or even sour expression. Her most noticeable feature is an ugly scar on her throat, a nearly vertical mark just left of center. Since the Incident, she has displayed an eerie, almost inhuman grace to her movement- she moves more like a stalking cat than a normal person, and those with the right training WILL notice. She tends to wear comfortable athletic clothing- typically shorts, a tee shirt or tanktop over a sports bra, and sneakers; she hates wearing anything that interferes with her ability to move freely.

Point Accounting: Abilities 74pp; +Defenses 6pp; +Skills 13pp; +Advantages 25pp; +Powers 17pp= 135/ 135

I like Figment pathfinderq1! She's nicely fleashed out & unfortunately show's the Downsides of being a child actor.

Just a head's up: i'm stoping submission's at Midnight Kentucky time Friday night & will have my "Elite 5" selected by Sunday(at latest). All those not picked will still have their Subs part of the Palladium 100(weither as hero or villian will be up to the 'character voice' themselves).
