Old Time Rock & Roll
What do you do when the world has passed you by?
What do you do when the heavens bestow on you power in the form of a magic shield? A shield which gives you strength, power and vitality, but asks you to help others? You help others. It’s the right thing to do.
What do you do when this shield takes you away from your family? Away from your home? What do you do when it puts you in the middle of the worst of the dirt, destruction and death of two of the worst conflicts in known history? You do your best to do the best that you can for the people at your sides. It’s the right thing to do.
What do you do when you get home again and realize that the world is changing, and you aren’t? You do your best to make the best of that life. You love your wife, you raise your kids the best you can, you build up a business so you do right by those that depend on you. You be the best that you can be, and try not to notice the march of time.
What do you do when the call comes again? Not a war this time, but monsters, ghouls and goblins, and spandex clad madmen. When the only thing standing between good men and women and disaster is kids wearing capes? Well, you help them out, teach the ones that will listen, and you do the best that you can to keep them alive. It’s the right thing to do.
What do you do when your wife passes away? Do you wallow in the pain? No man’s perfect. But in time your pain seems less immediate, and the world seems to open up again. And there is still work to do. Your grandchildren are counting on you now.
So you push on, you pick up your shield, you put on the silly costume and you makes sure the sun rises again.
What do you do when the news and media turns on you? When after decades and decades of hard work they’d rather side with criminal whom your rightfully taught a lesson? This new world that loves to tear down any good thing the come across, more than they like to worship their new glowing gods, vapid self-absorbed narcissist who’s only accomplishments were being born into money.
A better man keeps going.
But sometimes it’s hard to be the better man. Sometimes you need to look after yourself. You need to see the world again after seventy years, not behind a gun or shield, but behind a camera. You need to see the world you fought for. You need to meet the people, experience the culture, see life as it moves forward, never stopping.
Along the way you meet people, some good, some bad. You make friends, you make enemies. You put aside your needs and you raise a fist to help others. And somewhere along the way you reconnect with a world you no longer have a place in anymore.
What do you do when you get the call again, you come back, pick up the shield, put on the silly costume, and in spite of it all the world has passed you by? What do you do when this brave new world of knowledge and acceptance is defined by more mob mentality, intolerance and ignorance than ever before?
You do your best. You help. You set a good example. You put yourself second to put the innocents first.
Because it’s the right thing to do.
Character Summary:
Harry’s been around since before WWI with hints at him being one of the first mystery men or super heroes in existence.
His first official appearance was in WWII when he appeared in costume working for the Canadian Government. As time progressed he’s appeared on and off again, spending his free time working on his construction business, but often appearing in the middle of supernatural themed adventures, or seemingly randomly appearing out of nowhere to lend a hand.
He’s made appearances across all the eras, though for the last decade or more he’s been doing the “hard traveling hero” story while exploring the world. Imagine your 80’s style tv show. Hero arrives, sees bad guys doing bad things, saved the people, saves the day, rides off onto next adventure.
Now he’s come back to restart his life, set up a new branch of his construction business in the city, and reconnect to the superhero world.

Complications
Family – Harry’s wife has passed one many years ago. But he’s had children. And grand children. And great- well you get the idea. Most of them up are up in Canada, but a number have followed him to open up a new branch office for his construction company.
While he has a Gus Mackenzie in his family, he is not related to Gus “Captain Guts” McKenzie. Though stories of their BBQ competition and consequent food comas are legendary.
Buisiness – While his construction business is largely run by his family these days he still occasionally needs to step in and lend a hand. Though these days it’s more as a foreman than a corporate bigwig
Enemies – Harry has been in the business since the business started. His long life has resulted in enemies he never knew he had coming out of the woodwork looking for vengeance for things that happened decades before.
The Call – The Shield occasionally gives Harry a feeling of being needed. These feelings rarely give any indicators beyond a direction and a sense of urgency. This is a warning of something bad happening that Harry has some chance of preventing.
Thank you, Green Lantern – The Shield is somewhat known in Canada, but in most other parts of the world people seemed to be confused as to who he is, often mistaking him for somebody else.
Power Level: PL 9 (135)
Why Are You On The Team?: Officially he's there as a source of knowledge and even some hand to hand training. Unofficially he's trying to reconnect to the heroing world, and to be honest a team is a novel change of pace.
Why Might You Have To Be Away?: The construction business can sometimes take his attention, though it is largely run by his family. Occasionally the shield itself gives him hints that he's needed, and these feelings are never wrong.
Why Might You Have To Leave?: He still works for the Canadian government on occasion, and he has a terrible habit of being pulled into supernatural and magic events (possibly due to the magical nature of his shield), and he has a number of enemies (and allies) across the world who might try to pull him into their ventures.
