Why? Why do you hate your readers? Why do you hate money? Why would you do this, why?

Seriously, I have never seen such a misguided middle aged, boomer, "well met fellow teens" moment as this is. Just no. There isn't enough no in the world to express how much this is the wrong creative direction.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha, I so called it. I said this was going to be a hugely misguided middle aged, boomer, "well met fellow teens" moment & here is the official release of the characters information.
I was fortunate, my exposure to this was a Just Some Guy video that included appropriate responses to various lines the guy said.

Literally two people named Snowflake and Safe Space . . . really?

That's easily one of the worst things I've ever seen. It's just outright horrifically transphobic and insensitive.

Snowflake is an insult. And not one that a pair of cis men have the ability to 'reclaim'.

Yeah, I don't know what Marvel was thinking.

If you're including the artist as one of that pair, Luciano Vecchio is apparently a South American gay man, and he uses his deviantArt page to do a lot promotion for LGBT characters.

I thought the characters looked terrible when their images were first released but hoped they wouldn't actually be terrible..
FFS nope, they're more ridiculously stupid than even I could have imagined.

Sincerely, could you elaborate? I thought snowflake was just a general insult for someone who thinks they are unique but is not. I understand that the insult also has come to be used against one who is easily offended, especially if that person is perceived as being left politically. However I am unaware of it being a gender or sexuality insult.

How exactly is it transphobic? don't get me wrong, this is the most "well met fellow teens" boomer misfire ever, but how is it transphobic exactly?

No, it's not reclaiming it, it's a word, everyone has access to those words, there are no words that can only be used by one group, unless another group breaks in to their base & steals their book of words. Anyone can use the word snowflake, in fact if you were going to argue the point that some groups have ownership of words, then one would have to argue that the word "snowflake" as used as a derogatory term for "boring people who pretend to be unique" is exactly a word that a pair of cis men already have & wouldn't require reclaiming.

It is used very frequently as a specific insult against nonbinary people, which the character is apparently supposed to be, because of the common perception that nonbinary people are just trying to be unique for attention. They are not; they simply have a different experience of their gender.

It's also used against people on the aromantic and asexual spectra.

It'd be like calling a superhero F*ggot for fuck's sake.

No, snowflake is a term used specifically for boring people who want to appear interesting. The fact that an extreme minority of those boring people also happen to be transgender doesn't make the term "snowflake" transphobic.

By that logic the word stupid is now sexist, racist, abelist, homophobic, transphobic & anti semitic, because a percentage of people who get called stupid happen to be women, not white, handicapable, gay, lesbian, trans, or jewish.

See how that's not a thing

While I'm personally of the opinion that "snowflake" is a more general insult and not necessarily one that applies more prominently to any one group, I do understand why anyone who associates with a certain group might perceive the insult as being more focused towards themselves.

As this has the potential to get heated, let's just agree that naming a character "Snowflake" specifically because of that insult is dumb, and move on.

I was excited by the cover showing her old costume . . .

They somehow made a costume that’s both crummy AND boring at the same time, not even the “ so badly designed it’s funny” variety. It is drab; the lines don’t flow; red doesn’t contrast with gray; and it’s derivative. Yuck.

There is nothing wrong with the original costume. Just don’t draw her in porn star poses.

All my best.

P. S.: Safe Space and Snowflake!? Oh God, this is even stupider than when Marvel did their female centered TV ripoffs in the early days of the century (near direct copies of Buffy, Charmed, Dark Angel, Sex and the City).

Oh it's so much worse then you think.

Everything one could do wrong in an issue 1 they do wrong. It's amazing in how bad it is, the badness is so offensively bad that the badness of it is a work of art in its own right. We are talking about a property that not only fails across the board in every technical area, it actually stops the first issue mid fight so Jessica can give a 2 page lecture on sexism to a 16 year old kid she threw in to the ocean from the back of a ship.
