-Vampires are pretty much uniformly greedy, vicious and cruel, ruling massive corporations. Much of the show's "Filler" featured Vampires doing stuff. Nick Logan killed their leader, Hanek, when he tried to use Banshee captives to power teleporters- the successive leader, Dorn, was more open to working with the Alliance. Their "Bite" works differently than it does in most places, turning the victims into controlled slaves.

-Banshee are technology-haters, and their leader Queen Mab basically declares a fatwah on Sh'lainn for suggesting they ally with the humans. A lot of the show features Banshee hunting our heroes, as well as the war between Banshee & Vampires. They lack the technological skill of the other Aliens, but are more dangerous combatants one-on-one, owing to their ranged superiority.

Relationship (Nema)- Fitz & Nema are flirtacious with each other, but soon fall in love.

Total: Abilities: 46 / Skills: 36--18 / Advantages: 8 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 11 (83)

-Fitz is a lovable goofball played as a bit silly, yet given a gigantic body and lantern jaw. He's the resident "Bullshit Artist" of the Alliance- an all-important job, because they need to operate in secrecy. Generally, if something goes down, Fitz & Nema show up to cover it up- generally by giving suspicious types ANOTHER "conspiracy" to follow. One particularly memorable incident involves them vocally stating that nothing untowards is going on... while they're seen loading barrels of "toxic waste" onto a truck. Thus, the public is all "Oh, it's a government cover-up over Toxic Waste, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" when actually it's a thing about aliens. A brilliant, ingeniuos tactic, really. Fitz's smart-assed, snarky behavior is pretty amusing.

-Fitz is a wise-ass and a REALLY good liar, but isn't as well-trained for combat as the other characters.

-Nema is recruited from Egyptian National Security, and is a weapon specialist who I recall doing some "news reports" to put the public off the scent of what was going on. Her family is descended from the Old Kingdom dynasties of Egypt, which becomes a plot point- it turns out that a breed of Winged Vampires were active back then. She generally acts as the "Deadpan" character, in comparison to the more smarmy, smart-assed Fitz- they pair off pretty well, and form a secondary romantic relationship as the show goes on. Cute, but nowhere near as interesting as Nick & Sh'lainn's bickering.

Jefferson Trueblood

Post by Jabroniville »

You can tell the show doesn't have much of a following online because THESE are the pickings I get for images.

JEFFERSON TRUEBLOOD
Played By:
Richard Newman
Role: The Loyal Yes-Man
Group Affiliations: The Global Alliance
PL 8 (108)
STRENGTH
2 STAMINA 4 AGILITY 4
FIGHTING 10 DEXTERITY 4
INTELLIGENCE 3 AWARENESS 2 PRESENCE 1

Skills:
Acrobatics 2 (+6)
Athletics 6 (+8)
Deception 3 (+4)
Expertise (Global Alliance Agent) 5 (+8)
Intimidation 4 (+5)
Investigation 3 (+5)
Perception 5 (+7)
Ranged Combat (Blaster) 2 (+10)
Stealth 2 (+6)
Technology 3 (+6)
Vehicles 3 (+7)

Advantages:
Benefit 2 (Global Alliance Agent- Security Clearance 2), Equipment 3 (Blaster, Global Alliance Gear), Fast Grab, Fearless, Grab Finesse, Great Endurance, Improved Aim, Improved Critical (Blaster), Improved Initiative, Improved Hold, Ranged Attack 4, Tracking

Offense:
Unarmed +10 (+2 Damage, DC 17)
Blaster +10 (+6 Ranged Damage, DC 21)
Initiative +8

Defenses:
Dodge +10 (DC 20), Parry +10 (DC 10), Toughness +4, Fortitude +5, Will +6

Complications:
Responsibility (The Global Alliance)- Trueblood is the most loyal Alliance agent.

Total: Abilities: 60 / Skills: 38--19 / Advantages: 18 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 11 (108)

-Trueblood is General Rinaker's right-hand man, and a general "Yes Man" type who is pretty stoic, harsh and by-the-book, making him an antagonist to the rebellious main characters. They generally avoided the "Magical Native American" thing... until of course he had some spiritual moment. He also got a pretty bitching "Redemption" scene, sacrificing his life to save Nick & Sh'lainn from the advancing Rinaker-As-Shedoen.

(They still managed to get a toy released, though!) The game is apparently actually quite good, but it has the odd mechanic in that you had to select humans who could morph into the Gods, which is probably why the game was canned. (You could select the Gods normally via a secret, though)
That sounds pretty bitching. So they actually MADE a Primal Rage II, but just never released it?

I still consider that game one of the most obvious Great Ideas in video game history (a Fighting Game... WITH DINOSAURS) buggered by bad game design.

Yeah, a prototype was made, and it's playable in at least one arcade. And now the full movesets are availible to read online, which is cool. It was never released due to being deemed "not profitable", probably due to the poor reaction to the tests. The roster of Gods features everyone from the first game, plus one new one (Slashfang, a tiger) and the boss, Necrosan, as well as human "Avatars" that transform into their respective God. It's still ridiculous when you think that now, even an unreleased game has more descriptive move lists online than SNK does..

Man, imagine how cool this guy would have been if he was in the first game.

All this talk about cartoons no-one remembers and the unrealized awesomeness of a dinosaur fighting game has me thinking that Dino-Riders would make a helluva fun 28mm miniatures skirmish game.

I wonder if Tyco would sell me the license...

General Rinaker

GENERAL JAMES RINAKER (aka Wraith)
Played By:
Alex Zahara
Role: Secretive Boss, Bad Boss, The Mole
Group Affiliations: The Global Alliance, The Shedoen Multitude

Advantages:
Benefit 5 (Leader of the Great Alliance), Equipment 5 (Anything He Needs), Fast Grab, Improved Initiative, Power Attack, Ranged Attack 6, Startle, Ultimate Deception

Powers:
"Shedoen Physiology"
Growth 3 (Str & Sta +3, +3 Mass, +1 Intimidation, -1 Dodge/Parry, -3 Stealth) -- (12 feet) (Feats: Innate) (Extras: Permanent +0) [7]
Extra Limbs 6 [6]
Speed 2 (8 mph) [2]
Regeneration 2 [2]

Offense:
Unarmed +12 (+8 Damage, DC 23)
Initiative +7

Defenses:
Dodge +10 (DC 20), Parry +10 (DC 20), Toughness +8, Fortitude +8, Will +8

Complications:
Secret (Shedoen Invader)- The real James Rinaker died in 1946- replaced by a monstrous spider-creature. The mission of "Rinaker" is to destabilize Earth and its potential allies, setting them against each other so that nobody can produce a united from against the Shedoen Multitudes.
Motivation (Power)- Wraith is vicious and conniving- one of his last acts alive was to ensure that the heroes were able to stage a successful assault on the Shedoen High Command, leaving him in charge of everything.
Power Loss (Rinaker Form)- Shadoen take the form of others by rewriting their own DNA onto a genetic clone of one of their victims- once they activate a "Shedoen DNA Bomb", they completely lose their alternate form, and are permanently Shedoen once more.
Enemy (The Titani)- A massive pulse beam by the Titani repulsed the Shedoen fleet in the 15th Century.

Total: Abilities: 80 / Skills: 58--29 / Advantages: 21 / Powers: 17 / Defenses: 12 (159)

-General Rinaker was a HUGELY unlikable douche for the entirety of this show- initially coming off like a mean, condescending, demanding jerk (with an annoying habit of playing with his keys), he actually gets worse and worse as time goes on- despite being the leader of the Alliance, he repeatedly makes commands that would result in the deaths of innocents, nearly always orders the execution of aliens that could turn out to be allies, and treats his subordinates like garbage. And then HE GETS WORSE.

-It turns out that James Rinaker died decades ago. And "General Rinaker" is, in fact, a Shedoen- a gigantic Spider-Monster and part of an EMPIRE of the same- the Shedoen plan on invading Earth, and Rinaker was a "mole" all along- a way to destabilize Earth and its relationship with the alien life there. THAT's why he seemed to refuse alliances with any alien race, why he was always ordering executions, and why he seemed to further the aggression between rivals. He was preventing alliances all along!

-So Wraith, as he is called, finally sets the stage for the Shedoen invasion, connives his way into getting the heroes to kill the Shedoen High Command so that he can seize total power, and then murders Jefferson Trueblood, the only 100% loyal agent in the Global Alliance, when he finally comes to his senses and stands against the villain. He is the final bad guy toasted, blown up by an EMP bomb. His actual Power Level is extremely high for this universe, as he's a monstrous Spider Monster that easily kills Jefferson Trueblood in solo combat, and has to be killed by a super-weapon.

The Lycanthropes could take human form, but they imprinted on this form at birth and couldn't change it.

When Nick saved the infant Lycanthrope it grew up to look like Nick. Something the leader of the Lycanthropes didn't appreciate, as he was expecting his son to look like his own human form, not one of his worst enemies. ;~)

Rinaker was a great villain.
He's played off as being an incompetent Government type that makes the situation worse by being completely inflexible. And as we are inherently willing to accept that those people exist, so it never occurs to us or the heroes that this could be intentional until it's too late.

Yeah, that's why they only have a single rank of "Morph". Though M&M rules are REALLY iffy on what "counts" as a Morph. Technically Billy Batson should have it. But he has "Normal Identity" as a Complication instead. Where does one end and the other begin? Greycrusader & I talked a bunch over PM about this and other oddities in the M&M rulebook that could've used some better clarification.

Do you remember anything else I might have forgotten? I completely forgot about all the Vampire powers, and had to read the comprehensive Wikipedia article for the show, implying some kind of Mind Control was involved.

I've always drawn the distinction between "Morph" and "Normal Identity" as being one of usefulness. If the two forms are both capable of contributing on a heroic level, then I go with Morph. If one of the forms is a definite liability to the success of the adventure, I call it a Complication.

Billy Batson and Captain Marvel are a clear-cut case of a heroic form and a non-heroic form. Yes, there may be one or two times during a long ongoing campaign where a clever player may turn the liability into a asset... But most of the time a being totally powerless, fairly unskilled, straight across the board Human Average Abilities ten year old kid is not helpful in completing the mission.

Contrast that with Etrigan the Demon and Jason Blood. Etrigan has superhuman physical Abilities, Regeneration, reads minds, breathes fire, and so forth. Jason Blood is immortal, a trained knight, a skilled enough detective that the Batman occasionally consults him for clues, and a guy is skilled enough at spellcasting that Zatanna sometimes asks him for help. Etrigan may be significantly more powerful than Blood, but Blood sure as heck is no Billy Batson.
