Complications:
Relationship (Carl "Crusher" Creel)- Titania and The Absorbing Man are usually seen as married... somehow.
Responsibility (Overconfident)- Titania puts on a brash, disdainful personality, owing to years of being treated poorly because of her frail appearance and poor upbringing.
Enemy (She-Hulk)- Titania delivered a terrible beating to She-Hulk in her debut, and they've fought ever since, with Titania nearly-constantly losing. This has grown into an unhealthy obsession.
Phobia (Spider-Man)- Spider-Man dealt her a savage beating during the Secret Wars, and as a result, she was terrified of him for years.
Total: Abilities: 72 / Skills: 22--11 / Advantages: 12 / Powers: 16 / Defenses: 9 (120)
-Titania, taking the name from a dead victim of the Scourge of the Underworld, was a new addition to the Marvel U in
Secret Wars- a suburb of Denver was added to Battleworld by The Beyonder, and a pair of the civilians there made a deal with Dr. Doom and gained superhuman powers. One of them was a scrawny dweeb named Mary MacPherran (named after a Marvel staffer) who gained superhuman strength and superhuman bust, and became Marvel's premier superstrong female villain. She started a feud with She-Hulk, beat her down, but then got her ass absolutely HANDED to her by Spider-Man as a result (the book gets criticized by many for its silly dialogue and clumsy plotting, but it gets easily forgiven by me when I consider the fact that the series is basically a long-running set of Crowning Moments of Awesome for everyone involved). I mean, Spidey just used the absolute best of his ability to dodge every single shot she threw, demolishing her with counterattacks to the point where she was a quivering, terrified wreck.
-After
Secret Wars was over, she became a recurring Mook-type villain and henchwoman, usually teaming up with other super-villains to do stuff (her next appearance was as one of Baron Zemo's Masters of Evil during
Under Siege- a great
Avengers arc). She also began a relationship with the ABSORBING MAN of all people- the thick-headed, ugly Carl Creel ends up not only successfully hooking up with Titania, but MARRIES her.
-In the meantime, Titania quickly grew to be one of Marvel's "Go-To Filler Villains", a Journeyman type who moved from book to book, giving heroes the occasional challenge- Spider-Man (she got over her arachnophobia when she saw him beating on Creel), Captain America (Cap's pal D-Man let her escape once she proved how much stronger than him she was), She-Hulk and more. She briefly joins the Wizard's Frightful Four, takes part in
Acts of Vengeance (finally getting over her fear of Spidey... just in time for him to use the "Captain Universe" powers to one-shot her), and shows up a few times against Eric "Thor" Masterson, where her relationship with Creel takes a serious turn (he even tries to settle down with her, giving up crime for a while). They even have an arc where she suffers from cancer, getting Jane Foster to help her out (she was later cured off-panel, as presumably the
Thor writer Dan Jurgens left for another book and popped in the ending on his
Cap assignment).
-Titania later works with the Champion of the Universe, who gave her his Power Gem (he lost a fight to She-Hulk and was barred from using the Gem)- she beats on She-Hulk, who fakes death, then grabs the Gem when Titania realizes that her life now has no purpose- her nemesis gone. Shulkie, in her Jennifer Walters form, one-punches the villainess with a Gem-assisted smack. She later pops up on the Frightful Four again, grabs one of the seven "Hammers of the Worthy" during
Fear Itself, then surrenders to the female Thor because "I respect what you're doing here" (essentially giving up because FEMINISM- having read the Trade where this happens, it's by far the stupidest part of an otherwise well-written story). She has most recently been seen trying to reform again, but gets manipulated into helping The Hood.
-Titania, as a whole, is probably the most promiment female villain in the Marvel Universe, despite being a "Journeyman Jobber To The Stars", usually used as a temporary threat to people like She-Hulk or Thor. Most of the other female villains either appear rarely or against only one group of characters (Selene), turned good (Emma Frost), or aren't well-known enough (Umar). So... she's basically all that's left. She's not really big on characterization- most of what we get is her being a thick-headed, vengeful pain in the ass, and rare moments of vulnerability (the cancer thing) do little to change that. Villains like Titania are TERRIFIC, though- perfect for one-off threats, and a big enough deal that most heroes can't just one-shot her out of the way. That and the fact that she's one of the few MARRIED characters makes her a bit interesting. Plus, y'know, she's a smoking hot amazon with a fetish for bald, hairy-chested dudes. That makes her awesome.
-Titania can prove difficult to place on the strength scale, but slightly over the classic Class 100 seems to fit, as she's below the super-tough guys, and able to be beaten on by guys like Spider-Man. She's a PL 10 superheavyweight who can modify many of her caps, making her pretty useful, but she still comes out VERY cost-effective since the super-strong types are much weaker overall in this edition.
