It also says he's more savage than Sabretooth, so the cover just might be exaggerating a little.

The part that bothers me about Arcade is this assumption that he should care about his reputation?
Why should he care? If anything he should be hiring out his services as a distraction/time delay on the heroes.

He gets to do the death traps and even if they fail he's already accomplished all of his goals making him a success.

But, no, lets just kill some kids because no heroes in the Marvel universe would take issues with that, or could possible track him down.

And now I'm just going to imagine a world where Doom just goes "The hell? Nope, not having none of that." and carts him off for punishment.

Complications:
Vulnerable- Though nigh-invincible, Alkhema can be given trouble by computer viruses, electrical attacks, magnetics, and magic hex-bolts.
Motivation (Death of All Life on Earth)- Like Ultron, Alkhema wishes to destroy all life on Earth and replace it with robotic "life". However, while Ultron wishes to commit mass genocide, Alkhema instead wants to kill every person on Earth one-by-one.
Responsibility (Motherhood)- Alkhema wishes to give "birth" to hordes of robotic offspring, from the War Toys to the Bio-Synthezoids. She uses great deals of minions as a result.
Enemy (The Avengers)

Total: Abilities: 56 / Skills: 50--25 / Advantages: 21 / Powers: 160 / Defenses: 7 (269)

-Alkhema was created to be a Chick Ultron, by Ultron's original creator (Roy Thomas, not Hank Pym). She went all of one issue before betraying him (Ultron has some CRAP LUCK with his created minions, I tell you what), mainly over their belief in how to kill humans. Ultron wanted quick genocide, and Alkhema wanted to kill everyone one-by-one, so she could enjoy it more. She's only had a handful of appearances despite her tremendous power because really, when you need an invulnerable super-robot with ideals of genocide against the human race, you're just gonna go with ULTRON and be done with it. She featured in the early bits of Ultron Unlimited, and was destroyed by Hawkeye (naturally) with an Anti-Metal Arrow in the very next story (which was built off of the ending of UU- where she grabbed the brain patterns of various Pyms & Williamses).

-Alkhema is essentially Ultron Lite, which makes her a horrifying opponent regardless- she's strong as hell (lifting ninety tons while lying on her back and having zero leverage whatsoever), almost invincible, and has a powerful Blast as well. She's nowhere near Ultron's capabilities (she doesn't have his branching Alt-Effects from what I can tell), but she's still enough to fend off and entire Avengers barrage with that ridiculous Adamantium-based toughness.

Defenses:
Dodge +3 (+5 Shield, DC 13-15), Parry +2 (+4 Shield, DC 12-14), Toughness +1 (+6 Super-Asbestos), Fortitude +1, Will +2

Complications:
Motivation (Greed, Respect)- Kasloff turned to crime to earn more cash, and decided to defeat The Human Torch in order to gain the credibility to get criminals to agree to work with him.
Enemy (The Human Torch)
Reputation (Poisonous)- Nobody wants to hang around with Asbestos Man anymore, now that it's known that asbestos is a dangerous substance.

Total: Abilities: 28 / Skills: 10--5 / Advantages: 2 / Powers: 23 / Defenses: 2 (60)

-Orson Kasloff is a quasi-ethnic Eastern European scientist who turned to crime after he decided he liked money, and in order to impress the criminals of New York, he decided to dress up like a colorblind man in a costume made of duct tape. Using the then-thought-benign substance of asbestos, he wore a flame-retardant outfit that rendered him thus IMMUNE to Johnny Storm's powers- as The Human Torch was then super-feared by criminals in his own solo stories, Kasloff would thus earn cred. He actually BEAT The Torch in the first go-round, letting him go and taunting him that he could do that whenever he wants. He got the cred he wanted, but the standard Comic Book Rematch took place, in which Johnny burned Asbestos Man's fancy net, then burned up all the oxygen in the room, forcing the villain to surrender.

-And thus, this goofy-ass one-note supervillain with a ridiculous name retired forever, except for a one-panel return in Great Lakes Avengers, where he tried to get recruited. I mean, the name alone is patently ridiculous, and that was BEFORE asbestos was known to be a super-dangerous substance and the result of numerous lawsuits regarding its use in buildings!

-Asbestos Man is as much of a joke as you would expect, but is actually quite dangerous when he's using his Fancy Net to catch Johnny Storm's Fireballs and throw them back at him! Well, PL 7 dangerous anyhow. Otherwise he's a giant wussy who can't take much of a hit (despite having Toughness +6 overall with his bulletproof outfit). Plus the outfit can slowly make people sick if they're too close to it, a one-point Feature (I mean, it's not like having a COLD would be worth giving you a power, so why would having an outfit made of a poisonous substance be that pricey?).

Marvel's first Ape-X was a female gorilla who was missing her legs, but had a tank-tread/wheelchair thing she was in. She was amember of the Institute of Evil, and then after Behavior Modification became a member of the Squadron Supreme. And she developped an unrequited crush on Tom Thumb during the last months of his life.

As near as I can tell, the "Ape-X" name pun on 'apex' was part of the genius of Mark Gruenwald.

Interesting note about Alkhema, apparently her brain patterns were based off of Mockingbird, making it much more personal when confronting her due to Bobbi's death at the time. And why Hawkeye was the one to kill her in the end, and why it was more emotional.

And you know, Asbestos Man is funny for me. Part of me wants to try and make a memorable jobber out of him, having him have a sealed environmental suit beneath the heavy asbestos layer so he's not being poisoned by it, and he as various asbestos weapons and gizmos that are fire-proof and potentially toxic. Making him the goofy guy who will give you cancer.

The other part of me wants to make a story about how when he learned how dangerous asbestos was, he successfully sued companies, made a ton of money, and now uses his cash to help jobber villains get their start up, with only a little cut of their profits until they've payed of their starter loan.

Total: Abilities: 54 / Skills: 14--7 / Advantages: 8 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 10 (79)

-A predecessor to the Asbestos Man (who fought Johnny Storm), the Asbestos Lady was themed around the then-popular use of asbestos as a fire-resistant material. Wearing a form-fitting costume made of the stuff, she was a criminal who fought the original Human Torch. She murdered the scientist who created the suit, and his whole family, save one boy- Thomas- who was apparently immune to fire. This, naturally, is the origin story of the Torch's young sidekick, Toro. The Torch was able to beat her by melting her boots to the asphalt road. She faced the Torch & Toro a couple of other times in one-offs- it is revealed decades later that she died due to... well, duh- WEARING CLOTHES MADE OF ASBESTOS.

-She's a standard Gang Leader build in a few ways- good with a gun and access to minions. She's Immune to the Torch's flames, which is pretty much her only benefit against him and Toro, and her flamethrower isn't bad, but like most Golden Age villains, she pales before what came later.

The "Asbestos Lady failed to kill the boy who was immune to Fire and the boy became Toro" sounds like a Roy Thomas "Toro needs an origin, I'll weave an origin" retcon, not something from the actual golden age.

Then again, if she "created" Toro, that had to be several years before her 1947 debut. Toro showed up in 1940, IIRC. She killed the scientist who made the costume, but waited 8 years to use it?

But, yeah using asbestos as a tool against the Jim Hammond Torch was kind of a thing. Another villainess, the Hag, from Marvel Mystery #19 (so, like 1942-ish), wore clothing made of asbestos as well. Didn't help her against nitroglycerin, though.

Actually, the Torch did burn off the hair of the Hag in that story I mentioned, so, apparently Miss Murdock learned from her predacessor.

I wonder if Daredevil realises his aunt was a villainess...

Smart and a good man for putting the right person in the right place (he would make the calls and "arrange" things), he was charged with warring against the Lobo Brothers. When he failed, The Kingpin had him executed by Knight & Fogg.

-The Adversary is pretty much one of your everyday "All-Conquering Demons" that show up in comics from time-to-time- this one was summoned by Forge during an arcane ritual (comics: Where even the technologically-gifted Native Americans are magical shamen in touch with the spirits) to save himself during the Vietnam War. Years later, The Adversary is able to gain a foothold in Earth's dimension, fight the Goddess Roma (of pretty much her own Pantheon... this is before comics established that ALL of the Pantheons were alive and kicking, I think, so Claremont just made up his own... not that it's a bad thing to try and be original with the Cosmology). During The Fall of the Mutants, a big X-Crossover in the 1980s, The Adversary was only permanently banished when nine souls willingly sacrificed themselves to stop him. These souls, of course, were the X-Men.

-This was the start of the X-Men's adventures in Australia, because Roma pulled a Cosmic Mulligan and resurrected everybody. The X-Men (plus Madelyne Pryor, who Claremont wanted to keep around even after the other writers demanded Scott Summers hook back up with Jean Grey) had sacrificed their lives publicly, and used this to basically go into hiding in the Outback, where they teamed with the teleporter Gateway to go all over the world and have new adventures. Also they were invisible to cameras and stuff for a while. The Adversary disappeared until Forge was the leader of X-Factor, and another mystic ritual sent him away again.

-Altogether, The Adversary is pretty generic and hard to figure out, as all that's really established is that he's SUPER-POWERFUL, and could totally destroy the world or something if Roma hadn't pulled off her magic ritual. This of course begs the question of how this one Demon got so powerful, and what all the other Earth Pantheons were doing sitting on their asses while this occurred. I mean, you'd think ODIN or somebody would be all "Hey, this jerkwad's about to destroy Midgard, I should send my over-powered son to stomp on him".

-Figuring out the exact PL of a creature that was basically super-powerful and potentially-Earth-shattering, but didn't actually DO much, is rather difficult. So I took the easy way out and copied my Mephisto build onto him and made him PL 16 instead of 17, because I figure him still a step below guys like that- The Hell-Lords are more powerful, but under more stringent rules and can't just invade Earth whenever they please, while The Adversary is more of a wandering menace that can do whatever he wants once he gains a foothold.
