STINGER II (Blodwyn Reese)
Created By:
Graham Marks & Andy Lanning
First Appearance: Codename: Genetix #1 (Jan. 1993)
Role: Terrible Marvel UK Character, The Slutty-Looking Chick
Country of Origin: England
Group Affiliations: Genetix
PL 7 (88)
STRENGTH
1 STAMINA 3 AGILITY 3
FIGHTING 5 DEXTERITY 0
INTELLIGENCE 0 AWARENESS 0 PRESENCE 0

Skills:
Acrobatics 2 (+5)
Close Combat (Unarmed) 2 (+7)
Deception 2 (+2)
Intimidation 5 (+5)
Perception 3 (+3)

Advantages:
Ranged Attack 7

Powers:
"Generic Energy"
Snare 7 (21) -- [22]
  • AE: Blast 7 (Feats: Split) (15)
Force Field 7 [7]
Flight 6 (120 mph) [12]

Offense:
Unarmed +7 (+1 Damage, DC 16)
Energy Blasts +7 (+7 Ranged Damage, DC 22)
Snare +7 (+7 Ranged Affliction, DC 17)
Initiative +3

Defenses:
Dodge +8 (DC 18), Parry +8 (DC 18), Toughness +3, Fortitude +5, Will +3

Complications:
Enemy (Mys-Tech & Gene-SYS)- Dr. Oonagh Mallarkey forcibly recruited all of the Genetix kids to do their bidding. They have since broken free, and are now on their own.
Reputation (Stir-Crazy)- Impetuous and immature, Stinger is prone to random outbursts. She dislikes Shift's cavalier attitude specifically.
Power Loss (Over-Use)- If Stinger uses too much power, she will need several hours to recharge.

Total: Abilities: 24 / Skills: 14--7 / Advantages: 7 / Powers: 41 / Defenses: 9 (88)

-Here's another god-awful example of overly-90s garbage. Stinger is a Flying Blaster, already one of the most generic power-sets in all of comics, and she's basically got the Green Lantern rip-off power-set, in addition to one of the most blatantly Stripperific costumes EVER, yet also completely insane (it's made of BELTS) being completely embarrassing on every possible level. Cripes Marvel UK sucked.

-The team leader, Vesper is an Indian woman who has the power of Cyberpathy, allowing her to communicate with machines, or control them like Summoned Minions to do her bidding. It's quite a powerful Summon, creating 120-point creatures, and makes her the best Team Player on the squad, though she's still light on the Skills & Advantages for a leader.

But yeah, it's so annoying that for some characters, particularly DC ones, the only way to get information on them is to actually read the comics, which of course isn't easy unless you have access to the comic itself. There are ways around that, of course, thanks to the internet, but..well..legality is an issue.

Total: Abilities: 52 / Skills: 20--10 / Advantages: 3 / Powers: 51 / Defenses: 12 (128)

-Gulliver Jones was a brilliant WWII-era British scientist who was trying to create an android just like the Human Torch. He succeeded, but a Nazi bomb fatally injured the both of them- the android (named Ash) surgically grafted his skin over Jones's own body, saving his creator's life before the android expired. Jones awoke with the power to burst into flame. His powers were unstable enough to get him denied membership in the Invaders. He appeared in the Plasmer book, having been active since WWII, and his powers finally normalized.

-Captain Kerosene is essentially Torch-Lite in every possible way; a PL 7 Flying Blaster.

Yeah, it's weird. Hearkens back to the days when there was less overlap between Marvel & DC fans, I guess. Marvel got all the stat-obsessed weirdos like me, and DC's fans never catalogued ANYTHING.

-Just getting this guy out of the way, since he's relevant to Captain Kerosene (kinda), and he's been in my to-build list for friggin' FOREVER, always standing out because of his curious name (I always has to put "Nextwave" in brackets next to his name to identify him properly). He's a drunkard who gained powers from some aliens thanks to their Cosmic Maguffin the "Heartstar"- he beat them up and then vomited on them. He went on to become a failed superhero, trying every codename with "Captain" in it possible (the story, which was at this point supposed to be non-continuity, was that he was "every generic superhero with named Captain _____, including guys like Captain Kerosene and Captain Ultra)- one of them contained an expletive so dirty that Captain America punched him in the face and literally washed his mouth out with soap.

-Eventually getting put on the "Nextwave" team, he just called himself "The Captain". He's a colossal idiot, but is powerful enough to tear off one of Fin Fang Foom's fingers. I'll call him a PL 8, as his power level and abilities are deliberately kept vague to make him as generic as humanly possible.

Tektos

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

TEKTOS:
-Enemies of the characters in Genetix (The only people who hate Genetix more are the people who actually bought that comic), Tektos is a rival group formed by Dr. Oonagh Mallarkey and sent against them. Most are mutants, but they've all had various modifications done. However, they don't last long- most of the team is killed in their second story (not that Genetix had a particularly long run in the first place).

Doesn't the Captain have a Flight power?

Also, if you do start taking requests for un-statted DC characters, I'd like to see the Force of July, a ridiculous patriotic super-team of goverment agents that fought Batman and the Outsiders several times, and later a new incarnation of them, "Freedom's Ring", appeared in the awful Battle for Bludhaven and other stories.

-Shrapnel is a big purple guy who explodes. That's it. That's all there is to him. I'm just guessing on his strength level, because it apparently never came up enough for Marvunapp to talk about it. He was knocked into a large vat of acid, "causing him to explode", though what effect this would have on a guy whose POWER IS TO EXPLODE is beyond me. Maybe there's some writer out there, waiting in the wings with his big "Shrapnel's Incredible Comeback" story, waiting to turn this guy into the next villain who gets Catmanned. Or maybe we'll just never see this idiot again.

I had never head of Captain Kerosene before, but his Marvel U WIki mentioned him regenerating after being reduced nearly to ash, so I suppose either Immortality or Regeneration should be listed, though absolutely NO rationale is given for this power.

(AKA "this was a goof character even the creators don't care about making sense of)

All my best.
