All my best.
I think his healing ability works in a similar way to that of Volcana and the new Inhuman Inferno.

-Fractal is a bizarre-looking 2-D Energy Creature of unknown origin- it can teleport, blast away, and "disrupt the energy of others" (Affliction... I guess?), and is Insubstantial enough to cause problems (I'm ASSUMING that's what him being 2-D and made of energy can do- not a lot to go on with these guys). In the team's final appearance, he was placed into one of Shift's portals and sent to some other dimension, not reappearing.

-Tattoo (unlelated to Irezumi- technically also named "Tattoo"- of the Pacific Overlords) is the brother of Base- both boys were given to the Yakuza by their father, in order to act as drug runners. His power involves Living Tattoos, thankfully making him a LOT easier to stat than the other guy- it's just summons & weapons. How "genetic engineering" can create powers like this is beyond me, but you know- comics. Tattoo ends up buried under an avalanche during a fight with Base- he might be dead.

-Tattoo is a pretty decent fighter, being PL 7.5-ish overall, and a good match for his brother.

Total: Abilities: 38 / Skills: 16--8 / Advantages: 4 / Powers: 49 / Defenses: 11 (110)

-G-Force appeared in a two-part Limited Series, teaming up with Die-Cut. He gained his powers after opening up a dimensional doorway and making a deal with the sentience of that realm- giving it physical laws in return for super-powers. He later used his powers to ally with Die-Cut and save his world from a bomb. The character was meant to recur, but the cancellation of the Marvel UK line kiboshed that whole deal. As such, G-Force is just a low-end "Gravity Controller" concept.

I wonder if any comic book artist has ever drawn a hero/villain with extra arms in a way that would actually seem to work anatomically.

The Braddock Academy

Post by Jabroniville »

THE BRADDOCK ACADEMY:
-From Ares's favorite comic book series of all time, Avengers Academy, comes the handful of kids from the Braddock Academy! ie. "well we don't have enough teen characters we're allowed to use, so instead we're going to invent a bunch of sacrificial lambs for the book!". This also helpfully increases the potential for character death (let's face it- X-23 was not gonna bite it), while giving Dennis Hopeless some new characters to play with- a handy thing for the writers of the "teen books". It actually seems pretty clear that Hopeless gave these guys ALL the character development, focusing on their foibles and inter-team problems at length. Apparently at this point, Brian "Captain Britain" Braddock has started up a school for training superhuman children, despite also being a busy (and happily-married) MI-13 agent.

Defenses:

Complications:
Relationship (Nara)- The two grew close while stuck on Arcade's island. Sadly, she was killed fighting Cullen Bloodstone's monster form.

Total: Abilities: 52 / Skills: 12--6 / Advantages: 1 / Powers: 6 / Defenses: 9 (74)

-Anachronism was once a chubby young gamer, but found himself inhabiting the body of an immortal Celtic warlord through... I dunno if they explained it. This new handsome body drew him the attention of his teammate Nara, which led to the bullying Kid Briton picking on Anachronism even further. Kidnapped and placed into Arcade's Murderworld Island, he went near-catatonic after decapitating psychotic Kid Briton, but was brought out of it by Nara. However, he went psychotic after she was killed by Cullen Bloodstone's monster form, only coming down by the end of the storyline, at which point he was one of the surviving kids. He later allies with them in Avengers Undercover.

-Anachronism is extremely strong, but in the "Class 10" sort of way, said to be able to uproot trees. He also wields a Giant Axe, making him one of those types who is both strong AND has a weapon, meaning he kind of messes around with the PL system. I figure most of these kids to be in the "skilled amateurs" zone of PL 7-8.

You know, I'm pretty sure I read that in his Marvunapp bio, but I somehow completely glossed that over. Must have though "oh, this is how they resurrected him" or something and didn't even think about it.

Group Affiliations: The Braddock Academy
PL 7 (90)
STRENGTH
6 STAMINA 5 AGILITY 4

Skills:
Athletics 1 (+7)
Expertise (Atlantean Soldier) 5 (+5)
Intimidation 4 (+6)
Perception 3 (+5)
Stealth 1 (+5)
Vehicles 2 (+5)

Advantages:
Favoured Environment (Underwater), Teamwork

Powers:
"Atlantean Physiology"
Swimming 6 (30 mph) [6]

Immunity 3 (Drowning, Cold, Pressure) [3]
Movement 1 (Environmental Adaptation- Aquatic) [2]
Senses 1 (Low-Light Vision) [1]
Protection 1 [1]

Offense:
Unarmed +8 (+6 Damage, DC 21)
Initiative +3

Defenses:
Dodge +8 (DC 18), Parry +8 (DC 18), Toughness +6, Fortitude +6, Will +4

Complications:
Relationship (Anachronism)- The two pair off after the death of Kid Briton, who'd been having a relationship with Nara prior.
Weakness (Lack of Water)- If left without water, Atlanteans will grow progressively weaker. After a long period of time, they will becoming Fatigued, Impaired, Disabled, Stunned, etc. (in addition to dropping Strength & Stamina consistently). They will also suffocate after 10 minutes outside of water, unless they have a special helmet or serum.

Total: Abilities: 60 / Skills: 16--8 / Advantages: 2 / Powers: 13 / Defenses: 7 (90)

-Nara is an Atlantean student at the Braddock Academy, and has "abandonment issues", according to her teammate Apex. Kid Briton was cheating on Apex with Nara before Avengers Arena began, but she soon switched her attention to the newly-attractive Anachronism. She was mostly in the background from the looks of things, but her & Anachronism grew quite close- she died fighting Cullen Bloodstone's monster form, saving the day & transforming him back to normal, only to bleed out from her wounds.

-Apparently Nara has no powers other than standard Atlantean stuff. Given that Atlanteans are much, much stronger than ordinary people, still still makes her pretty decent in a scrap. If she had any of the trademark Atlantean weapons, she'd make PL 8, but as it stands, she's just PL 7.

Offense:
Unarmed +7 (+9 Damage, DC 24)
Initiative +2

Defenses:
Dodge +7 (DC 17), Parry +7 (DC 17), Toughness +9 (+5 Impervious), Fortitude +9, Will +4

Complications:
Power Loss (Confidence)- Kid Briton's powers are dependent upon his confidence- if manipulated or brought low by someone or something, his powers will wane.

Total: Abilities: 58 / Skills: 6--3 / Advantages: 1 / Powers: 25 / Defenses: 9 (96)

-Kid Briton is an alternate universe version of Captain Britain- one of thousands, thanks to the Captain Britain Corps always being a thing. Unlike most of them, this version is a teenager. A dominant personality, he was the leader of the Braddock Academy kids, but unfortunately was also a huge douchebag, having cheated on Apex with teammate Nara before Avengers Arena even began, and beating up the nerdy Anachronism just for catching them in the act. His powers are "Gladiator Style", much like Captain Britain's had become by this point, but given that he's an immature teenager, this becomes a much bigger flaw- when brought low by the manipulations of Apex & Nara, he is left vulnerable, and beheaded by Anachronism after threatening to kill Nara.

-Kid Briton is basically a PL 8, baby-version of Captain Britain.

APEX (Katy/Tim Bashir)
Created By:
Dennis Hopeless & Kevin Walker
First Appearance: Avengers Arena #1 (Feb. 2013)
Role: Secretive Hero, Token Evil Teammate
Group Affiliations: The Braddock Academy
PL 10 (111)
STRENGTH

FIGHTING 5 DEXTERITY 3
INTELLIGENCE 3 AWARENESS 3 PRESENCE 4

Skills:
Deception 8 (+12)
Perception 4 (+7)
Persuasion 4 (+8)

Advantages:
Fascination (Deception)

Powers:
"Technopathy"
Move Object 4 (Extras: Action) (Flaws: Limited to Metals) [8]
"Mental Manipulation" Mind Control 10 (Feats: Subtle 2) (Flaws: Ranks 6-10 are Limited to Machine-Oriented Characters) [38]

Offense:
Unarmed +5 (+1 Damage, DC 16)
Mind Control -- (+5-10 Perception-Ranged Affliction, DC 15-20)
Initiative +3

Defenses:
Dodge +7 (DC 17), Parry +6 (DC 16), Toughness +2, Fortitude +3, Will +5

Complications:
Secret (Everything)- Katy hides the existence of her brother Tim from others (they share the same body), and subtly manipulates the behavior of everyone around her.
Motivation (Control)- Katy wishes to control everything around her- if she fails, she grows depressed and defeatist, basically giving up.
Involuntary Transformation (Tim)- Tim can occasionally gain control of their shared body, changing sexes and everything.

Total: Abilities: 48 / Skills: 16--8 / Advantages: 1 / Powers: 46 / Defenses: 8 (111)

-Apex was the child of a couple who were desperate for a superhuman child- they succeeded, but the kid would spend half their time as Tim, and the other half as Katy, apparently switching genders. Eventually, Katy suppressed Tim and told her parents he was dead- in reality, Tim was trapped within Katy's form, helpless and forced to only observe. When kidnapped by Arcade, she proves to be quite dangerous, controlling Death Lockette against some others, "killing" Darkhawk.

-She also engages in subtle manipulation of others, but it all falls apart when Kid Briton is killed after one of her plans went awry- Tim takes control of their shared body, explains things to the rest of the team. They vote to leave him alive, but tie him up to prevent Katy from coming back... it doesn't work, and she kills Juston Seyfert (the kid from Sentinel), telling Death Lockette that she intends to win the competition, "no matter what". She ends up buried alive by the end of the series, trapped within the remains of Murder World by Nico Minoru.

-Apex is a subtle, dangerous Mind Controller archetype, with the last four ranks of her power only working on characters with mechanical implements, like Darkhawk and Death Lockette. This is an effect of her "Technopathy" power, which also allows her to fly so long as she's wearing metal.

Re: Jab's Builds! (Capt. ****! G-Force! The Braddock Academy!)

Post by Jabroniville »

Funny thing about the notorious Avengers Arena is that Dennis Hopeless wrote the very solid recent "Young X-Men" book, so he's at least got the goods in other regards, even if his "conception" can be weak.

And at least that book FINALLY EXPLAINED why the X-kids are still stuck in our time and messing up their old one: in their old one, they never left. What we apparently have now is DOUBLES of those kids. Because... I guess the world needed doubles of the Original Five X-Men.

This leads to the odd situation where three "Broken" characters, two of which are currently dead, are now still "around" in Cyclops, Jean Grey & The Beast- they lack the sheer weight of continuity and bad writers's decisions the originals have. Except for the fact that they still talk about all that stuff, essentially being crushed under all the past stories of their adult selves.

The new Young X-Men series appears to go a different route, sticking the Original Five back together (Jean skipped out on Hopeless's book, doing her own thing elsewhere and never showing up). What this means for Idie & Genesis, I don't know- they don't appear to be part of that book, rendering Hopeless's attempts at "fleshing out the new guys" rather moot at this point.

regarding Apex, she actually survived the 'buried alive' part, the fissure in fact dropping her and Deathlocket into Arcade's control centre beneath the arena. the two free Darkhawk, who beats the crap out of Arcade, forcing him to flee, but Arcade leaves Murderworld's controls in Apex's hands, until Deathlocket shoots her in the head
