Yeah, I was taught that too. But like I said, in high school I learned the Printer's Way from Neil & Jenn's dad. And then I got into computers and computer art, and it uses the colours of Light (primary are Red/Blue/Green), same as what is used in Stage Lighting. And it turns out that the Light method and the Printer method are inversions. Magenta, Yellow, and Cyan are primary colours in printing, and are the secondary colours in Light, and Red, Blue, and Green are the primary in light and secondary in printing.

I've come to think of the Red/Yellow/Blue method as the simplified-for-children method. And don't get me started on ROY G. BIV.

But then again, I have conversations with my brother about colour where we use the hex-triplets used in controlling colour on the computer.

Ken: What colour would you say my shirt is?
Matt: zero-zero-eight-eight-eff-eff, maybe.

Haha, I can only use childish, simple version, then :). I'm not even sure if the printer one works with markers or paint.

Total: Abilities: 70 / Skills: 36--18 / Advantages: 22 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 14 (124)

Origin: Kent Digger was a GI whose squad leader was bought out by the Nazis and led the team into a trap, where he too was killed. Disgusted, Kent faked his death and hid away behind enemy lines, deciding to stand for a better example as an American superpatriot, wearing a costume to take out criminals and Nazis alike. The Freebooter was a tall, well-built young man, square-jawed and frequently grim. He wore a green uniform with red gloves, buccaneer boots, and overshorts. He always wore a green mask.

-Kent Digger was in his 20s when World War II broke out. Desperate to fight, he became a G.I., and was one of thousands of troops in the American portion of the conflict in Europe. One day, after several months overseas, Malcolm Bridges, his unit's commanding officer, was bought out by the Nazis, who planned on leading the team into a trap. As Malcolm and Kent's unit went into a town they believed to be abandoned, the Germans opened fire, cutting down the entire unit. Malcolm attempted to get away, but Kent chased him, realizing what had happened. When a German sniper spotted Kent, he assumed both were Allied soldiers, and had his own unit gun them down. Malcolm was killed in a hail of bullets, and Kent was severely injured.

-Kent snuck away and had his wounds nursed by friendly villagers miles down the road. His unit was presumed killed in action to a man, rendering him legally deceased. He used this understanding to fashion a new identity- The Freebooter, a man who represented American values behind enemy lines. Since even the army could be corrupted, Kent believed that himself as a solo operative could be better than as a soldier, and he engaged in a one-man war on the Nazis throughout Europe.

-He quickly became known as a scourge, and joined the Legion of Liberty in its first mission against the Nazis. He was it's longest-serving member, and was known to be a member for the entire duration of the war. His actions and distinctions are many, and his teammates remember him as one of the best of their number. He soon came to realize that Bridges was an outlier, and that most in the army were good people.

-Though he touted himself as a paragon of American ingenuity and morality, he discovered a secret drug compound (which would today be known as steroids) being created by a scientist forced to work for the Nazis, and secretly was given these drugs for years during the war, in order to make himself stronger and faster. The Nazis never suspected one of "their" scientists was feeding the enemy the instrument of their undoing.

-The Freebooter's actions are recorded until the end of the war. In the final months in Europe, Freebooter attempted to defeat a platoon of German tanks inside the country's borders. Overeager, he tossed grenades down several holes, but was knocked dizzy by one of the resulting explosions. Before he could recover, he was run over by one of the only surviving tanks. The Germans held his body until the city they were defending fell, and it was returned to American hands. His identity was discovered as a result, and he was buried as a national hero, with full honours. The American government has subsequently engaged in the "Freebooter Program", creating many more Freebooters, each serving them as a willing soldier.

"Real-Life Comics": The Freebooter was a minorly successful Captain American rip-off in 1942, but never enough to gain his own book, and was thus a constant fixture in the Legion, going away in 1945. His death in 1945 was retroactively added as a morality tale about his steroid addiction (and a take on the Captain America mythos), and the few other spring-ups of the character post-WWII and in the 50s were taken, like Cap, as "replacement" Freebooters used by the U.S. government, one of which turned into a super-villain during a Legion crossover in the '60s, and another whose descendant was a modern-day Freebooter, in a short-lived attempt at WWII nostalgia in a Legion remake. There hasn't been a Freebooter seen for years.

Jab's Notes: The Freebooter is another "Generic" super-hero, one looking a lot like how I pictured Flagman. I threw some Cap stuff in there, while also making him one of the longer-lasting Legacies, though largely to a set of jobbers, as horrible fates befell most of them.

OTHER FREEBOOTERS
There have been several other notable individuals known to have donned the Freebooter's name and uniform. They are as follows:

THE FREEBOOTER II
Full Name:
Clark Paulson
Hgt: 6'1" Weight: 200 lbs. Hair: Brown, short Age: 30 years old at death
Occupation: Government agent
Status: Citizen of the United States, deceased
Group Affliliation: None
Known Relatives: Peter Paulson (son)

Appearance: Freebooter II wore a costume identical to the Freebooter before him.
Description: Clark Paulson was hired by the United States government to take on the mantle of the Freebooter following Kent Digger's death. He was a solo operative exclusively, taking on Communist agents at home and abroad. It is known that he fathered a son, Peter, during this time. After only a few years of operation, he was discovered as an undercover spy by a communist cell, and executed.

THE FREEBOOTER III
Full Name:
Dane Stelmach
Hgt: 6'2" Weight: 225 lbs. Hair: Brown, short Age: 45 years old at death
Occupation: Government agent, Super-Villain
Status: Citizen of the United States, deceased
Group Affliliation: None
Known Relatives: None

Description: The third Freebooter was Dane Stelmach, hired much like the first, to combat communist agents. His success record was not high, however, and the government retired the Freebooter name for several decades. His failure tortured him mentally, however, and he grew insane. In the 1960s, he made an attempt on the lives of the Legion of Liberty (see Legion of Liberty), becoming a mass supervillain. He was defeated by a regrouping of the Legion of old, alongside the Legion of Light (see Legion of Light). While attempting to sacrifice the lives of the Legion of Light in Times Square of New York City live on television, he was tossed onto the electrical array he was using to power the cameras and lights, electrocuting himself.

THE FREEBOOTER IV
Full Name:
Peter Paulson
Hgt: 6'0" Weight: 190 lbs. Hair: Brown, long Age: 28 years old at death
Occupation: Government agent
Status: Citizen of the United States, deceased
Group Affliliation: Legion of Liberty (1970s)
Known Relatives: Clark Paulson (father)

Description: Peter is the son of Clark Paulson, the failed Freebooter of the late 1940s, who was killed upon being discovered by Communist spies. Peter, desperate to rekindle something of his father, who died when he was a baby, asked the government to make him the new Freebooter. The government agreed after some prodding, since the Freebooter Program was deemed a failure years beforehand, and Peter began training. He joined the revival of the Legion of Liberty soon after it's inception and was a well-liked member. Serving for several years, he was killed during a mission against an alien menace. His teammates buried him with honours, sadly recalling the many deaths under the Freebooter name.

THE FREEBOOTER V
Full Name:
Carla Hammerstein
Hgt: 5'8" Weight: 140 lbs. Hair: Blonde, long Age: 26 years old at death
Occupation: Government agent
Status: Citizen of the United States, deceased
Known Relatives: None

Description:[/b] Carla Hammerstein was trained as the fifth Freebooter, after the death of Peter Paulson. The first female Freebooter, she served the U.S. government with distinction, also joining the Legion of Liberty. She served for two years on the team, before the Great Martian War. While the team was under attack by a Martian Imperator, she leapt onto it's back and tried to gouge out it's 'eyes'. It responded by snaking a tendril behind it, severing her spinal cord. She did not survive for more than a few seconds afterwards.

THE FREEBOOTER VI
Full Name:
Unknown
Physical Descriptions: Unknown
Occupation: Government agent
Status: Presumably an American citizen
Known Relatives: None

Description: The identity and career of the fifth Freebooter are unknown. It is merely known that there was one, and this individual never met or dealt with the Legion of Liberty in any way. It is not known if this person is still alive.

THE FREEBOOTER VII
Full Name:
Unknown
Hgt: 5'9" Weight: 145 lbs. Hair: Brown, short Age: Unknown
Occupation: Government agent
Status: American citizen
Known Relatives: None

Description: The current, seventh Freebooter is a female operative joining the modern incarnation of the Legion of Liberty. She has been shown as a thrill-seeking, exciteable individual, nontheless extremely competent and eager to please.

Strength Level: All the Freebooters possess strength equivalent to athletically-built individuals who engage in regular intensive excercise.
Powers and Abilities: Rather than focusing on hand-to-hand combat, all the subsequent Freebooters after the first have developed not only martial skills in fistfighting, but an array of weapons and gadgets, usually venturing into such realms as grappling hooks, stun-guns, standard firearms, and more.

Thanks for the color explanation, Ken.

I did wonder where the purple in Batman came from as sometimes seen.

Also, why sometimes Black Widow was grey/black, all black or blue/black (her original costume). One time, it was even colored a weird green on a cover.

Complications:
Motivation (Stealing From The Corrupt Rich)

Total: Abilities: 60 / Skills: 40--20 / Advantages: 13 / Powers: 6 / Defenses: 13 (124)

Origin: William Fontaine was a rich ne'er-do-well that mostly attended others' parties and wasted away his late parents' fortune in the Carolinas promoting silly contests that involved Clue-like facets and phony crimes to investigate. A trained marksman with a bow and arrow, he discovered a pair stealing his parents' precious heirlooms for real during a game, and caught them red-handed by trapping them with his arrows. Realizing the problems developing amongst the wealthy in the Carolinas and in other regions, he became emblazoned with the desire to stop the rich's games and aid the poor that he'd always shunned before. Initially going as "Robin Hood", the film-makers of the day demanded he cease and desist, lest he be sued when they caught up with him- he switched titles to another Robin Hood character, Will Scarlet, and dyed his hair red to avoid the link.

-Will fought crime solo during the early '40s, but joined up with the new Legion of Liberty soon after its creation. He was never a key member, but managed to live through the war fighting Nazis and more common criminals, including old enemy Arrow Jackson and an adventure in which he discovered that he actually WAS the real descendent of Will Scarlet (and related to his half-brother, Robin of Locksley), and eventually retired in the late '50s. He appeared for some Legion crossovers. A young homeless man inspired by his tales turned to the arrow, trained by Will himself, to become the second Will Scarlet. He returned one final time, his youth restored, trying to stop an old enemy from killing the '70s revival of the Legion, but was killed firing the last blow. His successor retired not long after that. Will had three children with girlfriend and later wife Mary Christophe, one of whom has grown to father the new Scarlet, a teenage girl's take on the legacy.

"Real-Life Comics": Will Scarlet was a minor seller during the WWII era, beginning in 1942 as one of the many Green Arrow rip-offs of the day (the Robin Hood name was added later to explain why he became a secondary character from the books instead), and lasted as a regular feature (and Legion member) until 1945, where he vanished until the Legion crossovers years later. The '70s revival led to his successor being named (as well as his three children's lack of love for the crimefighting game), though he wasn't a terribly popular character, effectively vanishing with the Legion's cancellation. He later trained the writers' new legacy character, Scarlett, written as a teenage girl who loved the glamour and fun of fighting crime like her late grandfather.

Jab's Notes: Scarlet is just me creating an archer who was a bit "different", copying the colors of a version of Link from the original Legend of Zelda game, which I always thought were cool.

Complications:
Motivation (Becoming a Super-Hero)- Wilhelmina is part of the Scarlet Legacy, and has devoted her life to being a great hero. Of course, the young girl appears to largely be doing it because it's "cool", and she wants bragging rights...

Total: Abilities: 60 / Skills: 36--18 / Advantages: 21 / Powers: 27 / Defenses: 13 (139)

-Wilhelmina Scarlet is the spoiled daughter of the Fontaine Fortune- proud of her heroic lineage, she decided to become a superhero when she was a young girl. Though her parents initially shrugged-off this childish request, they were somewhat put out to realize that it only grew stronger when she got older. Desperate to dissuade her, they hired some of the harshest instructors they could find to "train" the girl, but to their horror, she just kept coming back for more! Stubborn as a mule, and more than a little bit athletic, "Mina" grew into a great Archer. Eager to have their daughter not be killed, her parents convinced the Legion of Liberty's surviving members to keep track of the girl.

-Wilhelmina is stubborn, rebellious, sarcastic and unwilling to take orders (most of her old trainers quit)- she's convinced of her own superiority, and excels best when challenged by authority. Everyone around her can't help but be annoyed, and rub it in when she screws up or gets taken out by a foe she underestimated.

Jab's Notes: Yes, I literally created Kate Bishop before there I knew there was a Kate Bishop. This character dates back to before I ever got into M&M, which is at least ten years by this point, and I was certainly not reading Young Avengers- my first sighting of Kate wasn't until the Fraction Hawkeye series, I think :). So here's this snarky, young, teenage archer.

That old art is kind of neat, actually. Has a lot of character to it. It actually kind of avoids looking too much like a lineup of Golden Age heroes in the way that the color lineup does.

Haha, yeah, I wanted the color pic to actually show full costumes and stuff. You can see some of the changes (Mr. Maximum looks NOTHING like his old version). Plus there's the old head design for Meteor Hammer (back when he was called "Iron Hammer") at the bottom of the last one.

The upper pic actually has Captain Terror and The Defender, from Marvel's Golden Age. I think I was trying to make homages for the backdrop of my Golden Age scene (so that not everybody had joined the Legion of Liberty).

Reputation (Shady Deals)- Charles lost his public credibility after a shady deal left him disgraced.

Total: Abilities: 42 / Skills: 26--13 / Advantages: 14 / Powers: 0 / Defenses: 12 (81)

Origin: Charles McCraig is a professional wrestler turned vigilante after a shady deal left him disgraced in the ring. Before gimmicks and pageantry took over the sport, he was unable to regain his success, and so turned to crimefighting, wearing part of his blue wrestling robe as a hood.

Lifeline: The Blue Hood is mainly a minor-league hero, having success as an urban vigilante for several years, retiring in the '50s. His brief foray with the Legion of Liberty was largely unnoticeable (he wasn't instrumental in any missions, just a warm body), and he disappeared with little fanfare. Trying to regain some of his past legend, he made a wrestling comeback in 1956, and was World champ yet again, but sadly died a few months later, killed by an old enemy that the Legion gathered together once again to stop. He was buried a vindicated legend, with his blue hood draped across his chest. Years later, Joanie Clifford, a female wrestling champion, would be inspired by his name to create her own wrestler's identity from it in the theatrical matches. However, she quickly began to see people who needed her help, regardless of her fictional identity, and she began to fight crime in her costume as a double-life.

"Real-Life Comics": The Blue Hood was not very successful, beginning in 1943 as a rip-off of MLJ's The Hangman, and only lasted two years, but not before a brief foray into the Legion to gain some new readers. He was killed in a retroactive storyline told in the 60s to explain a past Legion gathering, and a way for writers to get rid of some dead weight and unnecessary characters. The Joanie Clifford Blue Hood was a storyline in Rhino-Man comics, and the character has mostly moved into limbo from there.

Jab's Notes: Basically just Hourman but with different colors- there were a handful of hooded guys in comics, but Hourman was easily the coolest-looking. Blue Hood's a trifle garish, but you could believe him as a Golden Ager.

Wanting more out of life than trophies that didn't matter to many people beyond her immediate family, and a freak-show aspect in a theatrical sport, she took up the mantle of the Blue Hood, from the deceased Golden Age hero and pro wrestler Charles McCraig, in order to gain more fans. She quickly saw real people who needed her help, and began fighting crime in her costume as part of a double-life. She has been asked and invited to join the modern-day Legion of Liberty, and continue on the legacy of the Blue Hood with the Legion members' blessing.

Jab's Notes: Basically a Female Legacy to the original.

Origin: Private Emil Bratsky was a G.I. during World War II, who was hit by a mortar shell on the fields of Belgium and was blown apart. A Belgian scientist, in hiding from the Nazis, discovered his barely-alive remains, and swiftly placed his brain inside the shell of a robotic soldier he'd created to fight the German threat. Now called Robo-Man, Emil, a trouble-making but inspiring and competent brat of a soldier rejoined his group and continued on as Robo-Man.
Powers & Abilities: Robo-Man possessed Class 15 super-strength early on, as well as a bullet-and-mortar proof shell, as well as enhanced leaping ability. A good soldier in flesh and in steel, he was a good marskman, a good fighter, and had courage and the heart to keep fighting. Later on, power-ups and rebuilding has boosted his super-strength up to the 65-ton level, and he now possesses state of the art weaponry, from guns to built-in lasers, along with internet hookups and more.

-Robo-Man was a rumored legend for most G.I.s during WWII, except for those who saw him. Sgt. Haller consistently used him at the head of most offensives, and he even joined the Legion of Liberty for many of its missions in Europe. He was feared lost after the war had ended, but in actuality had been sent into hibernation after being hit saving a Jewish family from Hitler's men and falling to the bottom of a bog. Years later, he was revived by the descendants of the family he'd saved, and rejoined the Legion for the crossovers. Appearing infrequently, he teamed with the Legion revival, only to be destroyed. However, he'd be rebuilt eventually, rejoining the team until its dissolution following the Martian War, and has now joined the new modern version of the Legion as a charter member.

"Real-Life Comics": Robo-Man was a copy of the Robotman character appearing at the time, but was used as a soldier in order to inspire love in the army. Not so popular at first, he existed from early 1942 (though his origin was pushed back to make sense, since the U.S. never entered Belgium at that time) till 1944, joining the Legion in the meantime before vanishing from comics until the crossovers gave him an explanation for the disappearance. Though he never appeared to regret his robotic form in the '40s, writers wisely utilized his nature for some soul-searching stories involving his bitterness at no longer being human, and feeling apart from so many people, including leaving his wartime girlfriend Betty at home to get married, effectively making the character more than just a happy-go-lucky soldier like he used to be portrayed. Now he's used as a 'sarcastic old man' type of trainer for the new generation.

Jab's Notes: A comparable character to the Golden Age Robotman and G.I. Robot, Robo-Man is also one of the few I chose to survive into modern times, acting as an elder statesman and a bit of a grouch, taking up Wildcat's role with the Justice Society.

These are awesome! I wouldn't worry too much about the artwork, I've seen much worse.

for the record, I'm not comparing my older pic unfavorably to the new one (which is basically just colored stick figures)- I'm comparing it to my newer style in general.
