SLOWLY... going through my PhotoBucket and translating pics over to SmugMug, at which point I copy those, paste them into my word files, and then translate them to the thread(s). Sailor Moon, Wicked, Jem and some of the Animals Builds are done- the Fish, Reptiles, Amphibians & Marsupials all have nice, new pic links!
I was like why is Jab having problems its been working for me....until today. Damn you photo bucket. Thankfully I don't have anywhere near the amount of pics you do.

-Guiding Light shows up in a one-off comic, gaining powers via electrocution from touching a machine while she had soda on her hands. Really. Her powers are dormant for years until reactivating during a blackout, at which point Spider-Man and the Sinister Six get involved, because the Six are investigating her energy signature. She refuses to join the Six when Sandman calls her "toots", and fights Hydro-Man for trying to drown her husband, but is beaten. The Six are stopped by Spidey & Iron Man, and her powers vanish by story's end.

-Okay, so I was confused by the links I picked up when searching for this character, and I discovered that this is a crossover with some Soap Opera I'm almost entirely unfamiliar with (despite it lasting from 1952-2009) called Guiding Light- yes, a SOAP OPERA CROSSOVER. Basically, one character gets super-powers and is de-powered, and the one-off comic has a mini-story featuring her as well. The character lasted for one comic and five episodes of the TV show before disappearing forever.

-Guiding Light's basically a jumped-up nobody, having good powers but so little experience that she'd need help against professional super-villains.

Marvel- The Letter "W":
-Like many people, I used to wonder why in the hell something that is clearly a double "V" is called "Double-U". The reason, it turns out, is because "W" is a replacement for one of the sounds made by the Latin "V", which used to make "U" and "W" sounds. So a German "W" sound was written as either "VV" or "UU". As language is variable with time, and writing follows it, the names get garbled and so we have this confusing little bit, finalizing in Early Middle English, the Norman Conquest of England in the 11th Century- finally replacing a runic "Ƿ" (wynn) for the sound. "W" became finalized as its own letter in the 14th Century, but controversially- people complained about this kind of crap the way old people complain about Internet Lingo today. Many languages lost its meaning- German notably shifted the "W" letter to mean "V" (hence Nightcrawler's name being properly pronounced "Kurt Vawgner").

-"W" is the only English letter that contains more than one syllable. It is also the only letter whose name is not pronounced with any of the sounds that the letter typically makes. It takes so long to say that many chants and nicknames are things like "Dubya" (George W. Bush's nickname) or "E-C-DUB!" (The infamous chant fans made at ECW wrestling shows). Of the last letters in the Alphabet, it is one of the most used- it is the 18th-most used letter, but years ahead of "V", "Y", "X" & "Z". It's even ahead of "B"!

Short version: Language is WEIRD.

-"W" is not terribly well-represented among super-heroic characters, though a few big names start with it. WOLVERINE, naturally, is one of the biggest stars in comic book history (and certainly the biggest one to debut after the Silver Age). The White Queen has become a major hero, then recently a villain once more. Wonder Man is occasionally treated like he's a big deal. Carol Danvers went by "Warbird" for a time in the '90s, but is better known under two other names. The X-Men's Warlock & Warpath are there, as is War Machine. Founding Avenger (but one typically left out of supporting materials) The Wasp is there, too. There's also Wendigo, Werewolf by Night, and the infamous Jobbers The Wrecker and his Wrecking Crew. But that's really about it.

-Of the new, never-before-seen builds, we have a rather large pack of nobodies- guys with miniature presence online, and infinitesimally small bios. Guys like the Wolfpack, Washout, William Evans Jr., WildPride and something called "The Worldengine". I think the most notable out of this crew was one that missed "The List" entirely- Weasel, the sometimes-ally of Deadpool!

-Windeagle was a minion of The Dragon Circle, some guys who were screwing with The Black Panther, but was murdered by a sniper during a second fight. Oddly, his history was mostly formulated after his death- he was a Dominican immigrant who became a career criminal, and was manipulated by the Circle into fighting T'Challa, and given a costume that was sort of like The Falcon's. He wasn't really that great, struggling against the Panther solo even in his debut.

The Wolfpack

THE WOLFPACK:
Created by: Larry Hama & Ron Wilson
First Appearance: Marvel Graphic Novel #31- The Wolfpack (1987)
-This group was initially from a Marvel Graphic Novel written by Larry Hama, but proved popular enough to span a 12-issue limited series, which seems crazy given how rare such things are today. Like a lot of Hama things, it's a mixture of modern & old-school stuff- Ninja conspiracy thriller stuff mixed in with gritty inner-city life. It apparently showcased a lot of the nastier aspects of real NYC life at the time, such as drug use (then not a major thing in superhero books). The Wolfpack is a band of street-smart kids empowered by mystical Goodness in order to defend the South Bronx from pure Evil. An ancient Japanese clan consistently attempts to form "The Nine" in each generation- and a band of heroes is needed to fight the forces of evil and maintain Cosmic Balance.

-Mr. Mack, their trainer, was a black sailor who'd experienced racism from his own shipmates, but found acceptance in Japan, where some people saw in him a chance to continue an ancient battle. Various kids are thus trained and empowered to be a part of The Nine.

-It's rather annoying for me that these guys are nearly impossible to find information for. You can SORT OF figure what they'd be like (Rafael is a fighter; Slag strong; Sam tricky), but there's so much unknowable stuff about them, such as their exact levels. As such, I'll just have to do mini-bios.

Edit: Thanks to Davies for pointing out the Marvel FASERIP bios, and Koroko for discovering the old ATT thread about the guy who did conversions into M&M, I actually have real bios for these kids! They're all basically PL 5-6.5 Martial Artists, more designed for gritty street campaigns than vicious Comic Book-style brawls.

It may be worth going back to see when my biobooks came from. I wouldn't be hugely surprised if nothing was younger than a decade old. So yep- tons of room for new worthwhile characters to be out there. Better question is whether Marvel took advantage of that- sounds generally like no?
We rise from the ashes so that new legends can be born.

I know that they had stats in one of the updates for FASERIP Marvel's hole-punched character sheets. <checks> The 1990 Character Updates. From what I remember of the series, I would say that they were all PL 6 or less.

Well, someone converted the FASERIP Marvel characters into M&M back on the ATT, apparently.

Here is the Wolfpack's entry there.

That one really overstates what Sharon's capable of, she's only supposed to be a bit faster than someone on a bicycle. Likewise Wheel's wheelchair, which he does build gadgets into but probably can't go that fast. It also misses the fact that Sam had low-light vision or darkvision in addition to the abilities described.

oh yeah- THAT thread! I remember that one- it had a roster as thorough (if not moreso) than mine. A great source, but he made the mistake of spamming them all out at once, thus ensuring that nobody checked his thread more than a couple of times. I'd forgotten about it. Thanks!

Relationship/Enemy (Mistress Death)- Walker wants to put the bones to the skeletal embodiment of Death, but she rebuffed him when he pulled his "kill billions to earn her love" gambit.

Total: Abilities: 146 / Skills: 32--16 / Advantages: 22 / Powers: 141 / Defenses: 17 (342)

-Walker was a Death God from another galaxy, having grown tremendously powerful thanks to being the only creature the sentients of that galaxy worshipped. He courted Death herself, promising to give her all he had- he absorbed the lives of everyone in his galaxy into himself, and presented himself as a gift to Death. However, Mistress Death was all "this is a callous disregard for life!" and turned on him, because some women are just IMPOSSIBLE to please, you know? Walker of course overreacted and decided to murder Death instead.

-Death, taking advice from Thanos, hid away in the body of Marlo Chandler, then a supporting character in Peter David's Captain Marvel title. Thanos began working to protect Death, including faking a loss to Ka-Zar in that guy's own book (GUESS WHO WAS CO-WRITING THIS STORY?). Thanos brought Thor & Genis-Vell into conflict with Walker, but he managed to trick Genis into switching places with Rick Jones, whom he tortured- this mangled, super-aged form of Rick is the one who ended up in Avengers Forever, because Peter David was weird and wanted to "explain" Rick's future without setting that version in stone.

-This, of course, was ANOTHER part of Thanos's master plan: he knew that Death, while a taker of lives, despised suffering and sought to end it- she sprung forth from Marlo, released the souls Walker had absorbed, and sentenced Walker to an eternity of torment.

-Walker is apparently obscenely powerful- enough so that Thor, Genis & Thanos combined couldn't overpower him. After absorbing the lives of everyone in his universe, he was apparently strong enough to threaten Death, though Thanos's plot essentially consisted of her just coming out and whupping his ass, so there's no indication just what his upper limit was- just that a PL 20-ish Death could take him. In addition to this Cosmic Being-type stuff (+20 Blasts & +17 Area Effects, plus some Variable), he can channel his powers through a staff (I don't think that makes much of a difference to his stats), and flies around space on a giant Skull & Bones spaceship with tons of weapons.

It used to drive me crazy when writers would have members of the Justice League refer to Wonder Woman as "WW". Obviously, this was being done to take up less space in the word balloons, but it always seemed forced. "Double-you double-you" is six syllables, longer than the four syllables in "wonder woman". No one would use "WW" for brevity when speaking aloud.

When the most powerful super hero on Earth marries an ordinary man, hilarity ensues.

*sniff* Nathan Fillion's scenes as Simon Williams seem to have been cut from Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Heh- John Byrne has a big thing on his website about that, too. He also hates anybody shortening names to "Bats" or "Supes" with characters who should command respect.
