Komodo was one of my favorites among the "Initiative" characters. I wasn't put off by the "ugly girl" trope they saddled her with in the least. The Order taken as a whole was the team I thought had some of the best story potential and could have carried a series if the writers hadn't inflicted so much damage (by way of attrition) on them early on.

"You're leaving?"
"Yeah. I'm young, I'm black, I'm a girl, no one has heard of me, and I turn into a gorilla. Of course I'm leaving. Otherwise I'll be the first to die."

-Gorilla Girl started out as a member of a band of circus freaks controlled by a villain and sent against Spider-Man (who must've been longing for the days of The Circus of Crime), and literally spent more than twenty years on the shelf before being recruited to The Initiative after Penance/Speedball beat the hell out of her. She got used afterwards during the goofy Marvel Apes thing, and saved her entire team by setting time right in a sacrifice play in the Marvel Zombies universe. She's hardly-impressive as a powerhouse, and is ludicrously-cheap for a superhero, but a PL 7 Gorilla still can't be shaken off so easily.

Huh. I noticed it before, but seeing him brought up in the bios here reminded me that I don't think you've statted Ragnarok (the evil Thor clone). In Thor Girl's bio, you mentioned him possibly being PL 11-12, but that was years ago. He's basically a scaled-down, evil Thor, so not really interesting to stat.

Oh geez- the worst combination of killobots and scaled-down established characters- my favorite kind of thing to stat :).

Maybe it'd be worth making a "Kill-O-Bot" template to go along with the Magic Villain template, so you never have to stat them again! :) I dunno.

Butterball

BUTTERBALL II (Emery Schaub, aka Boulder)
Created By:
Christos N. Gage & Steve Uy
First Appearance: Avengers: The Initiative #13 (2008)
Role: Everyman Loser-Hero
Group Affiliations: The Initiative, Avengers Academy
PL 4 (141)
STRENGTH
1 STAMINA 3 AGILITY -1
FIGHTING 4 DEXTERITY 0
INTELLIGENCE 0 AWARENESS 0 PRESENCE 0

Skills:
Expertise (Fry Cook) 2 (+2)
Perception 2 (+2)
Persuasion 2 (+2)

Advantages:
Great Endurance, Interpose, Ranged Attack 2

Powers:
"Total Invulnerability"
Immunity 115 (Toughness Effects, Fortitude Effects, Mental Damage) [115]

Offense:
Unarmed +4 (+1 Damage, DC 16)
Initiative -1

Defenses:
Dodge +0 (DC 10), Parry +4 (DC 14), Toughness +3, Fortitude +3, Will +4

Complications:
Disabled (Weakened Touch)- Because of Shaub's invulnerability, he has problems feeling touch- he is unable to be properly seduced. He can also not gain any more muscle mass or physical capability.

Total: Abilities: 14 / Skills: 6--3 / Advantages: 4 / Powers: 115 / Defenses: 5 (141)

-Butterball (named by The Taskmaster after the fat, useless recruit fails to live up to the codename "Boulder") was a basic slacker-boy type who wanted to become a true hero- he was invulnerable, but physically unfit, and no amount of hard training could help him build muscle or ability (since building muscle depends on the tearing and stretching of said muscle). In a nice moment, Taskmaster & Constrictor agreed to "lay down" for him in a picture, as he got drummed out of the program.

-Despite this, he became a bit of a public hero after surviving an assault on the Negative Zone Prison- Norman Osborn theorized that since the general public are a bunch of fat morons, then a fat moron superhero would be a good source of propaganda. He didn't really do to much after that, being seen in the background in some Avengers Academy stuff, but he was a pretty solid "Sympathetic Character" for the book's second year.

-Basically worthless in a fight, he's also a nightmare for a kill-crazy character- he is actually COMPLETELY impossible to injure (even by poison, suffocation or mental attacks- he can still be Telepathically Controlled, however).

Relationship (The Taskmasters)- The two are good friends, having known each other for years.

Total: Abilities: 40 / Skills: 30--15 / Advantages: 6 / Powers: 40 / Defenses: 15 (116)

-After The Constrictor lost his arms, Norman Osborn paid for cybernetic replacements, turning him into a 'borg character who adds 7 points to his overall cost (since the Coils can no longer be taken away without major surgery).

The Constrictor- God of Journeyman Villains:
-The Constrictor is a bit of a background C-leaguer, initially a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent turned crazy and villainous (he was sent undercover to infiltrate a group, but became a career criminal after suffering a nervous breakdown), but his semi-positive origins have resulted in a fair bit of "make the villainous guy good again" stories. He debuted in combat against the Hulk while trying to assassination Hulk's pal Jim Wilson on behalf of The Corporation. These same guys later sent him against Captain America. Given that his second appearance was against a different hero than the first, he was perhaps predestined to become a Journeyman Villain- hell, he might be THE Journeyman Villain! Other guys at least suck to a single antagonist at first; this guy not only bounced from hero to hero immediately, but has been doing so in semi-prominent roles for FORTY YEARS!

-Constrictor's next opponent was Iron Man, as one of Justin Hammer's army of goons. Next, he faced Power Man and the Daughters of the Dragon while teaming up with Sabretooth. He fought Cap again, then tried to kill the hospitalized Thing (among dozens of other villains), and notably turned DOWN the Serpent Society when he was recruited for their first meeting. He turned them over to the Avengers, but was badly beaten by Anaconda as a result- Captain America had to save his life from the Scourge of the Underworld while he was recovering in hospital!

Modern Constrictor:
-After fighting numerous other characters (even SuperPro!), he was revealed to be using a fake last name, in order to convince his adult daughter Mia that he was dead. He was also teamed up with Deadpool and Titania (later revealed to be Copycat) during an arc of Deadpool, then joined the Crimson Cowl's Masters of Evil in Thunderbolts. He briefly saw the light after winning millions in a lawsuit against Hercules for excessive brutality, and this arc culminated in a turn in The Initiative, where he became the "face" of the "Villains Gone Good" movement they were fighting for. While many of his teammates were psychopaths and greedy bastards and would never change, Frank actually felt GOOD being heroic, turning much of the press to his side after he saves lives. He even got to hook up with Diamondback! However, he felt unworthy of her, and eventually left her after seeing her run towards Captain America, her old beau.

-The Initiative book saw him maimed and given cybernetic coils instead of simple gear, and established a friendship with The Taskmaster, as both were pretty old-school baddies. When Frank left Diamondback, the two ran off to become partners in crime, though after this point, he's basically just a standard Journeyman Villain again, typically appearing because he has a distinctive look and cool name, yet lacks the credibility to wipe out tons of guys.

-Frank's one of the more well-rounded low-level villains out there, which fits nicely with one of his schticks- he's that guy who ends up fighting EVERYBODY at one point or another. He almost got invited to join that arsenal of jobbers known as The Serpent Society, but rejected them as losers and got his ass kicked by Anaconda as a result (he was nearly assassinated in his hospital bed by a Scourge, but Captain America saved his life).

Constrictor's Stats:
-The Constrictor packs a powerful Snare, but he's still just a PL 9 guy at heart- he goes down Wrecking Crew style against just about any sort of hero (Spider-Man, The Thing, SUPERPRO...), and he's been traded around the Marvel Universe just like them as well. He's enough to challenge most guys, but any PL 10 hero can defeat him (and almost all of them have). He can basically use a Snare and Damage simultaneously (but can only use the Snare on 2 people maximum, but theoretically still whip people while holding other unfortunates). Note that this is the iconic Constrictor, using a Battlesuit-type deal- his later version loses his arms to K.I.A. in an Initiative storyline, and looks like this:

Re: Jab's Builds! (Gwenpool! Cloud 9! Hardball! Constrictor!)

Post by Jabroniville »

In 2011, ClassDunce had this to say about my Constrictor build (which has been largely unchanged for eons, though I've written a MUCH bigger biographer since):
ClassDunce wrote:I've always liked Constrictor. There was an issue of Gambit's solo title, back when he actually had one, where Constrictor stole a cannister of adamantium. Gambit needed the cannister of adamantium to save Sabertooth. Daredevil wanted to recover the cannister because, well he's Daredevil and I guess that's what the good guys do. The entire issue was these three characters chasing each other through New York just beating the crap out of each other. Daredevil and Gambit beating the crap out of Constrictor who did in fact get his ass kicked but he took it and kept going. There's something to admire about that. I've kind of had a soft spot for him ever since.

He's also another one of those characters that have gained a little prestige because of the Avengers Initiative comics. Him and Taskmaster came out a head due to that.
It's funny looking at my Initiative builds again, because these are about three and a half years old as far as posting goes. However, they were among the last builds I posted to the old Atomic Think Tank, meaning they're one of the few groups that only existed on our OLDEST forum for such things! I hadn't even had the chance to transfer most of them to Ronin Army until I started doing the "Marvel Alphabet" (which is why characters like Komodo & Armory were more recent re-posts).

The Liberteens

Post by Jabroniville »

Image

THE LIBERTEENS:
-The Liberteens are one of the many Initiative teams out there, created as basically a one-shot showing off what some of the teams were capable of, and that there was now a "Skrull in Every State", as their leader Revolutionary was revealed to be a Skrull. They were depicted as some goofy, catchphrase-spouting teenagers, but their real-life personas were that of a bunch of partying horn-dogs. In addition, the team was mainly inspired by members of the Liberty Legion, a really short-lived Timely Comics concept way back in the day, where they shoved some of their older, less popular characters back in the 1940s. Roy Thomas, being an obsessive continuity-porn addict, retconned some stuff into them, and the Liberteens each take a bit from a single member.

-They mainly exist as a pack of PL 6-7 generic filler heroes that are the heroic version of cannon fodder, though to my knowledge, none have died. They were powerful enough to take out some terrorists and beat a Flag-Smasher (could've been any one of them), and help finish off the Revolutionary-Skrull, and that was the last we've seen of them. No idea if any of them are around post-Initiative. I was gonna go PL 6 with the lot of them, but they DID disable a rather large group of Mooks pretty quickly, so I'll be nice and go a bit higher with some.

-Owing to my current methods for posting builds, I'll post them in separate builds in stead of one big spam-post. It makes it easier on my Archives and figuring out my number of characters that way :).

-The Revolutionary is the best of his team, which just goes to show you how terribly lame they all are. He's a Weapon Fighter build, focusing on being physically-fit and very hard to hit... but he's only PL 7, so he's a complete pushover to anyone who has the slightest amount of capability.

-Blue Eagle's a "Flying Guy", inspired by the Red Raven, who actually had quite the post-Golden Age career, despite being a really, really obscure character. He was an "avian" guy from the Bird-People, an offshoot of The Inhumans, who kind of... did stuff, and were always in suspended animation or something, and it led Red Raven to brawl with various heroes (a solo Angel of the X-Men, Namor the Sub-Mariner), and doing some of that "nobody other than Roy Thomas gives a crap about any of this" ret-conning, up to and including having a daughter and faking his own death. Amazingly, Red Raven pre-dates Captain America, and is thus the first Marvel hero to debut in his own comic. Alone, Blue Eagle never really did anything but "Shoot to disable" a bunch of jetpack-using terrorists.

-Iceberg has one of the best power showings of his group- ripping the top off of a tank while dissing the bad guys. He's an unusual creation- an "Ice Guy" who is actually just a Powerhouse instead of a Freeze/Power Feat-based type of guy. It's a little hard to figure him out precisely (that strength feat is a bit beyond Spider-Man, and around where guys like Rage are, but probably below Rogue), so he's a VERY inaccurate Powerhouse that ends up at PL 7. His accuracy is so bad he's practically a common Thug, but that seems about right for what this group was capable of. I'm actually interested enough in this idea ("Ice Guy Turned Powerhouse") that it would make a pretty cool fully-fleshed out concept, honestly.

-Whiz Kid's your everyday speedster character (originally showing up in She-Hulk as a messenger for her law office), but she actually got some play during Secret Invasion- as a speedster, she was important in getting from place to place without taxing Devil-Slayer's teleportational powers, and as such, she helped save the day at the end, nearly dying to suck out all the Human-killing Poison Gas that the Skrulls whipped at the heroes during their big, climactic fight. She's got a couple of Speed Feats attached to her, and she goes to PL 7 if she uses Air Control or Spinning (which is Distracting, so it still lowers her defense).

-Hope (based on The Blue Diamond, one of the more unique Golden Age heroes- a super-density guy) is a blue diamond-like girl, shown with some Super-Strength and durability (enough to allow her to easily survive a Gravity-assisted super-dive onto the Revolutionary-Skrull, killing him on impact). She's tougher than she is strong, and she's PL 6.5 offense, PL 7 on defense. I think her name is a pun on the Hope Diamond, given her diamond-skin.
