-Scientist Arnold Cadela believed that canines, morally-superior to and more loyal than humanity, would inherit the Earth. Calling himself Dogmaster, he created a system that enhanced the minds of dogs to human-level intellect and made them bipedal. Dognapping a bunch of animals from the pound, he created his "Dog Pack"- Retriever, Dogbull, Terror Terrier, Doberman Puncher and Greatest Dane. Despite his grandios concept, his plans largely consisted of kidnapping politicians and trying to brainwash them into creating more dog-friendly rules. He was quickly defeated by Osprey, but would return a few other times, eventually facing off against several different heroes- a "Journeyman Villain".

-Dogmaster frequently screamed at and belittled his subordinates, making the team more of an argumentative squad of idiots who frequently argued with each other and scuffled for dominance. The Pack split up following Dogmaster's death during one of those great "Every Costumed Character Alive" crossovers (which also saw Terror Terrier's demise). The other three vanished, but Retriever attempted to become an independent criminal in order to make ends meet.

That picture is incredible. And the Dogmaster's name is so terrible it underscores exactly how seriously you're supposed to take him.

Thanks :)! Getting the size differences right was the tricky part, and I wanted the dogs to appear smaller/crouched down, but I had to do some erasing, because I was basically plopping these big torsos at ground-level, leaving no room for the legs :).

THE GODS OF OLYMPUS:

-The Greek Pantheon of Earth is actually known across the universe, and their true origins are known to most- these "Gods" are actually a race of highly-powerful, immortal creatures from the PLANET Olympus (formerly known as Titan). Millennia ago, they came to Earth, and interjected themselves into human life, demanding worship.

-Uranus (The Sky) was the mightiest and most-dangerous of the early Titans- his origins are mysterious, as various sources called him the child of Air and Day, and another the son of Night itself. Millennia ago, he created the sentient A.I. program GAEA, and using her, constructed (via his own genetic material and GAEA's technology) a race of his cybernetic offspring. The original offspring, however, were hideously-deformed despite their power, and so Uranus rejected them, casting the three Hekatoncheires (Hundred-Handed Giants) and three Cyclopes (one-eyed giants) into Tartarus, a desolate alternate dimension he had discovered. His next twelve offspring, The Titans, were much more to his liking- possessing vast power and huge size. With this army, Uranus conquered much of the known Universe, millennia before most races would create advanced technology. Numerous amazing, wondrous worlds were lost for displeasing these cruel overlords. However, Uranus claimed that an empire was necessary to forge a strong army to oppose a powerful nemesis in the future. They settled on an otherdimensional "Throneworld" they called Olympus and demanded worship from a primitive universe- the prayers and beliefs of mortals had powerful magic in it, which could fuel the machines and powers of the Titans (this is why, along with the power it provides, many beings court worship from mortals, in fact).

-GAEA, however, mourned the loss of her first children, and bade The Titans to usurp their father. Only Saturn, the youngest and most ambitious, dared to, and used a great Scythe created by his "mother", he castrated his father (who was held by his four brothers) and spread his body across the universe so that he could never reform (the various pieces became living beings- the Giants, Furies, Ash-Tree Nymphs and Aphrodite herself). However, despite freeing his hideous siblings in order to successfully-stage his revolt, Saturn turned on them, re-imprisoning the Hekatoncheires & Cyclopes within Tartarus. GAEA mourned once again, and plotted revenge.

-Saturn, fearful of a dire prophecy from the Fates (beings beyond physical reality) that his own children would overthrow him, instead refused to have any- when his wife Rhea became pregnant, he absorbed his new children within himself. Six children were so absorbed, but GAEA & Rhea staged trickery to save the last, whom they named Zeus. Zeus was sent away to the unknown world of Earth, as humanity was still within the Stone Age, and could not send word back to Saturn. When Zeus was grown, he staged a revolt of his own, freeing his siblings with a computer virus and freeing those trapped within Tartarus. A dreaded war- The Titanomachy (or "Titan War"), spread across the heavens, as Saturn and his Titans (along with various other Earth "Pantheons" of Ancient Gods) fought Zeus and what he called his "Olympians" in a ten year war across all of known space- the Cyclopes invented great weapons that allowed the Olympians to succeed after years of destruction. The Etruscan, Babylonian, and Hurrian Pantheons were destroyed in the fighting (among others), and Zeus finally overthrew his father, trapping the Titans within Tartarus in a moment of sick irony. Thus, Zeus became King of Olympus, and the inheritor of a vast interstellar empire.

-However, greatly weakened, Zeus was forced to give up much of his Empire, only to slowly rebuild it over time. He and his siblings (and their children) grew fond of Earth (it had sentient beings who looked like the Gods, worshipped the Gods, and had crappy technology- it was ideal), among other worlds, and began to "seed" it with their own descendants, hoping to create a great army- other worlds also benefitted from this. GAEA herself was installed on Earth, and absorbed herself into its crust, giving credence to her status as "Earth Goddess", and ensuring that humanity would worship the Olympians. Zeus, while capricious and often cruel and irresponsible, was a kinder and gentler ruler than his father and grandfather, and came to be actively-worshipped by people across the Universe- many tales were told of these "gods", though numerous things were mistold or misremembered (mighty spaceships became "Chariots"; literal embodiments of emotions were given human form when none existed). The Olympians enabled a "Golden Age" of humanity in the Grecian regions, but soon came under attack by powerful Pantheons (all of various origins), which prevented them from extending their empire elsewhere across Earth and other realms.

-Eventually, the Olympians gathered their forces and re-took many of their former worlds- Zeus wished to re-forge the Interstellar Olympian Empire. The Gods left Earth at varying intervals, often for centuries at a time- a few stragglers (such as Ares, the war-loving God) altered some of their names and stories for the consumption of the people of the City-State of Rome- the Romans soon came to overwhelm Europe. However, the Gods were forced to abandon Earth when the forces of other Gods came against them, and then took over the majority of Europe- this was another interstellar war of vast proportions, called the "Mythology War" or "Immortal War".

-As it stands, what humans call the "Greek Gods" stand at the head of an interstellar Olympian Empire, which has constantly been in flux. They are controversial, highly-feared, and often openly-hated- many other races have long memories of the misdeeds of the Gods, and wish them to have little power. Their reigns have been somewhat magnanimous, but also prone to casual slaughter of sentient beings, and many alien empires full under their heels. Now, they are merely one of many interstellar empires of great power, but the only one staffed by immortal, unkillable warriors, giving them some credence at the bargaining table. They are barred by intergalactic treaty from still seeking worshippers, leading to some clever trickery on their part.

Jab's Notes: I'm a HUGE fan of Greek Mythology- they're basically the greatest Super-Heroes of antiquity, but more in the Marvel vein than the DC one- intensely-flawed, demanding, possibly-psychotic super-beings constantly engaged in feuds and battles with each other. Like many others (like BSDigital Q), I include them in my OC-verse. I wanted to do a few different things, though- rather than just have them as lounging Gods wearing robes like the standard cliches go, I wanted to make them something alien- an intergalactic empire of ancient origin. This allows a lot more storytelling, and expansion of the universe. Really, it's a "World-Building" thing.

-I wanted the Greeks to be originators of many things, but to have enough be vague that inconsistencies are easily explained away by mortals "misremembering" things, or getting their stories mixed up. It's also important to note that Greek Mythology has the WORST CONTINUITY EVER, as even the biggest names have completely contradictory origins and parentages for major characters- Greek Myth is essentially what would happen if Marvel & DC had zero editorial, every writer was allowed to change the story however they wanted, many people were illiterate so stories could only be shared orally, and there was no internet or Wikipedia for anyone to communicate and share stories. Never mind that each city had their own version of many stories, wanted to push themselves at the expense of others (many "Mortal Hero" stories are just inter-city propaganda meant to build up the town by inventing ancestry from a heroic son of Zeus or Poseidon), or changed old myths to fit the new figures (giving contradictory stories when old Mother Goddesses are replaced by Leto, Hera and others).

-An interesting note is that many Gods' names are literally what they represent- Helios just means "Sun", so when the Greek refer to "Helios", they're not calling him some cool name, they're just calling him "SUN". Not all the Gods are like this, but Selene (Moon), Eos (Dawn), Hebe (Youth) and others are all borderline conceptual, though they are definitely represented as physical, flesh and blood beings. However, other cases seem to make things more vague in terms of representation, such as the Murders and Manslaughters, and other beings surrounding the War Gods like Ares. You'll find guys like "Occasio", a God of Luck & Gambling that exists as part allegory (his hair is only on the front part of the head, so you can catch him as he's coming, but if he's by you already, it's too late!), and part real guy. Throughout these builds, I'll be looking into the various mythical beings, and figuring out who does what.

Yeah, but Hindu mythology being impenetrable is basically part of the point of Hinduism, I think?

That's not bad continuity - that's just Grant Morrison writing their theology :). All "Shiva marries his own female aspect" and stuff...

Olympian Stats

Post by Jabroniville »

OLYMPIAN PHYSIOLOGY:
Olympians Are Mighty: Olympians are among the most-powerful races in the cosmos- at the height of their power, they are among the most-powerful beings in the universe. Even baseline Olympians are staggeringly-strong and durable, though regular mortals have been known to hurt them.

Olympians Are a Merger of Technology & Flesh: Olympians are not inherently magical- they are actually a combination of genetic matter and technology. Functionally cyborgs of an "android" nature, they pass for living beings, and may breed with nearly anything. Many Gods are capable of transforming themselves into other beings- this is referred to as "Altering Programming", literally changing the make-up of their cells in order to transform. Almost all myths of Gods "Transforming" humans into animals is a manner of them directly altering the "programming" (ie. DNA) of mortals via high-technology- most Gods cannot transform beings simply by waving their hands.

Olympians Produce Strong Children: The degree of Olympian power differs depending on who the parents are- The children of full-blown Gods are often extremely powerful (Hera & Zeus' children Hephaestus & Ares are examples), as can be many children of Olympians & Titans (Zeus' children Apollo, Artemis & Athena). The more powerful the God, the more powerful their children tend to be- the children of Zeus are usually more powerful than those of even his brothers, and almost always more than someone like Ares or Apollo. The offspring of Olympians and Humans are called Demigods, and tend to merely be exceptional examples of humanity- great leaders, heroes and founders of cities. Exceptions will apply, however- Hermes, son of Apollo, is a highly-powerful God, despite his more-humble origins. This is usually-enabled by "reprogramming" children into more powerful forms using technology.

Olympian Physiology Entails:
Size: The base height of an Olympian is around ten feet tall. As most races they encounter are human-sized, they often deliberately "shrink down" to interact properly, without "looming" or being unable to use human-designed tools or objects. Most Gods can change their size easily, learning quickly how to access the proper programming. Olympians tend to be rather heavy (at least three times heavier than someone of normal size would be expected to be), though can alter their programming to avoid breaking floorboards or the like. Demigods are of normal height.

Physical Might: Gods are extremely strong and durable- even Gods who do not focus on strength, such as Eris, can lift upwards of twelve tons. Demigods are generally at the peak of human capability. Their durability generally matches their strength, but sometimes goes a bit higher- they are tough, but mere mortals bearing weapons have injured powerful Gods such as Ares.

Immortality: Most of the Gods will live forever- never aging. Nymphs may live for centuries, and Demigods often lived for over 200 years. Horrible injuries heal quickly- near-fatal wounds heal in mere hours, and to the elites, even DEATH is immaterial- a fatally-wounded God will simply rise from the dead within days, unless his body is deliberately-strewn about. The death of Uranus was only enabled by a supremely-powerful weapon forged by GAEA herself.

Immunities: Gods do not suffer from Aging effects, Poison, Disease or most temperature extremes. They have a dense physiology enabling them to stand on the sea floor, or float in Outer Space, without negative effects. They must still breathe, however. The effects of mild intoxicants, such as alcohol, still have a powerful effect, but only in large amounts- this is part of what makes their resplendent parties so infamous.

"Olympian Size" Growth 2 (+2 Mass, +2 Intimidation, -0 Fighting/Dodge, -2 Stealth, Reach 1) -- (10 feet) (Flaws: Limited to Non-ST & STA Growths -2) [4]

Jab's Notes: I wanted to make Gods powerful and otherworldly, without going too far and making them these impossible-to-beat Magical Beings. Weird mystical stuff and "I turned them into deer because they saw me naked" should really be more of a thing they do with their gear- beings of high-technology, they can simply drag humans to their spaceships to transform them. These stats render them powerful, but beatable to Earth Superheroes. I made them all Giants because of a series of Olympian-themed storybooks I read in High school doing so... plus it means more Giantesses :).

Interesting alterna-take on the Olympian gods. It's sort of the basic idea Marvel is using for their Asgardians in the films, too. Super-science that's basically magic, albeit the Asgardians don't have cybernetics. Looking forward to seeing how these guys stat out.

Protogenoi:
* Even the Greeks themselves didn't really go into much detail over the "Protogenoi"- those beings older than recorded time, or even the actual Gods they worshipped. Most of them are simply named after the thing they represent- Hemera is literally just "Day" in Greek. The exact origins of Uranus and others is actually shrouded in mystery to even the Gods themselves.
Nyx- Born of Chaos, mates with Erebus (Darkness) to give birth to Aether (Brightness/Light) & Hemera (Day)- the parents of Uranus, the Sky God. Also gives solitary birth to Moros (Doom/Destiny), Ker (Fate/Destruction/Death), Thanatos (Death), Hypnos (Sleep), The Oneiroi (Dreams), Momus (Blame/Criticism), Oizys (Woe), The Moirai (Fates), The Keres, Nemesis (Indignation/Retribution), Apate (Deceit), Philotes (Friendship), Geras (Old Age) & Eris (Strife). Nyx was often not overtly-worshipped by the Greeks- she often lurked in the backgrounds of other stories (Hypnos hid behind her apron to avoid the wrath of Zeus). She was incredibly-feared, even by the Olympians.
Erebus- The Primordial Darkness. One of the "First Five". Barely appears aside from being mentioned alongside Nyx.
Aether- Brightness/Light and The "Upper Air" (Atmosphere)- the father of Uranus.
Hemera- The Day. Treated as more of a concept than a physical Goddess. Said to be the mother of Thalassa (the Primordial Ocean), Uranus and Gaea.
Momus- Mean-Spirited Blame & Unfair Criticism. Kicked out of Olympus for being an asshole.
Oizys- Woe and Pain.
The Oneiroi- Dreams, sometimes viewed as concepts, the sons of Nyx, or the children of Hypnos (Sleep).
Moros- Impending Doom & Moroseness- a God of Fate that even Zeus could not question.
Nemesis- Divine Retribution, especially those who succumb to hubris- considered an inescapable fate by the Greeks. Is responsible for Narcissus' transformation into a flower, as punishment for his vanity.
The Keres- Female Death-Spirits, similar to Valkyries, but malevolent. Called "The Tenebrae" by the Romans. They would find dead and dying men and carry their souls to Hades' realm.
Philotes- Friendship/Affection or possibly Sexual Intercourse. Very minor, and barely mentioned.
Geras- Old Age. An old, shrivelled-up man, and barely mentioned.
Apate- Deceit.
The Fates (Moirai)- The unstoppable incarnations of Destiny, a force to which even Zeus bows. Infamously, Clotho spins the Thread of Life, Lachesis measures it (the lifespan of a mortal), and Atropos cuts it. They are said to be the children of Zeus & Themis, but earlier myths call them the daughters of Nyx & Erebus, making them much more ancient- in some myths, only one appears. Similar beings appear in various mythologies (the three Norn Sisters in Norse Mythology), implying that many ancient creatures know of The Fates. The fact that there are three is important in many European stories- Hecate is the Goddess of Three Crossroads, and the Weird Sister in Macbeth are based on these old crones as well.

SEA GODS:
Thalassa- The Spirit of the world's Oceans- not truly an Olympian.
Pontus- Spirit of the Mediterranean Sea. With GAEA, birthed Nereus, Eurybia, Thaumas & Phorcys.
Nereus- The Old Man of the Sea, and father of the Nereids (one of whom was Achilles' mother).
Thaumas- Sea God that was usurped by Poseidon. The father (with the Oceanid Electra) the Harpies and Iris (Rainbow Messenger).
Phorcys- God of the Hidden Dangers of the Deep. Is the father of many Monsters (including Medusa and her Gorgon sisters, Echidna & Ladon) with Ceto.
Eurybia- Minor Sea Goddess. Married Crius the Titan.

A huge influence on me was actually the Rifts RPG book on Pantheons of the Megaverse. In particular, the image of Hermes riding a Space Motorcycle wearing that "rounded Rifts armor". It was one of those moments that makes you go "Ahhhh..." and think outside the box.

Complications:
Enemy (Ares)
Enemy (Poseidon)- Poseidon and Athena have feuded ever since she won the responsibility of being the favored God of the city of Athens. The proud Sea God frequently attempts to undo her schemes, or see her humiliated.
Enemy (Triton)- Triton is the son of Poseidon, and is usually the hand Poseidon deals when he wishes to interfer with Athena's life. He is also the father of Pallas, the girl Athena once slew in mock-battle.
---
Responsibility (Goddess of Wisdom)- Athena wishes that everyone would use wisdom and speaking to resolve conflict rather than combat. She also represents the disiplined, strategic side of war, to contrast Ares' slaughter-heavy side. She stands for truth, justice and morality.
Responsibility (Heroic Endeavor)- Heroes & Warriors are sacred to Athena, and she specialized in aiding various powerful men do great deeds. The heroes Odysseus, Jason & Heracles among them.
Responsibility (Olympian Pride)- Old habits die hard- Athena, like most Olympians, is intensely prideful. She will not take insults kindly, and is easily-angered by disespect. In the old days, if you disrespected a Goddess, you would almost certainly be killed.
Responsibility (The City of Athens)- Athens took her name in tribute centuries ago, and still she guards it as a patron, though no longer demands worship.
Responsibility (The Virgin Goddess)- Like Artemis and Hestia, Athena is a Virgin Goddess, and refuses to allow "eros" to cloud her judgment and emotions- she has seen it lead far too many others astray, and she needs her focus elsewhere.
---
Responsibility (Awful Past)- Athena's vicious past has occasionally come back to haunt her.
Reputation (Olympian)- The Olympians have bad reputations on many worlds- ones where the Gods had killed people out of malice or vengeance, of monsters had been loosed to draw out Demigod heroes. Many old empires fear the start of another expansion by the Olympians, and will mistrust anything Athena does, thinking it has ulterior motives, such was her closeness with their leader- her father, Zeus.
Responsibility (Doesn't Get Along With Women)- Athena "gets" men better than women, as much of her backstory involves arguments with various females. Though her biggest rivals are usually males (Poseidon; Ares), she tends to get along with heroic, intelligent males, and has a tendency to not understand females. This is often chalked up to her sexless, spartan, stoic, militaristic existence.

Total: Abilities: 110 / Skills: 64--32 / Advantages: 26 / Powers: 72 / Defenses: 13 (253)

Athena in Mythology: Athena is one of the more fascinating and in-depth Gods found in Greek Mythology, and any Mythology, for that matter. It was plain as day that the Greeks (particularly- duh- the Athenians) held her above almost all of them in terms of respect and admiration, as she was the most level-headed of the Olympians, as well as the kindest and most-helpful towards the Half-Breed Heroes that populated their ancient history and founded their cities- The Goddess of Heroic Endeavor aided Bellerophon against The Medusa, Herakles on his Twelve Labours, and Iason/Jason towards the Golden Fleece, in addition to many others. When all the Gods fled the Monster Typhon in terror, only Athena had the sack to stand against the monster and shame Zeus into fighting back. While Ares was a butt-hole who was the God of Killing Stuff, Athena was the intelligent side of war, favouring tactics and methods of peace against mere destruction. Of all the Gods, Athena seems to be a saint. In many ways, Greek Mythology almost reads as a FanFic written BY Athena.

-But she never was entirely nice- there was a dark side to the Goddess. When the mortal Arachne professed to be a greater Weaver of stuff than the Goddess of Weaving herself, Athena visited her, ripped apart a fabric that parodied the Gods, and turned her into a Spider (this story represents the dangers of hubris, and believing you were better than The Gods- some stories make Athena look a BIT better by having her turn a suicided Arachne into a creature that could always weave beautiful things). When Paris chose Aphrodite over Hera & Athena in a beauty contest, Athena agreed to destroy all of Troy with Hera, a brutal act of vengeance that doomed thousands. When Medusa slept with Poseidon in Athena's own temple, she was cursed with hideous appearance. When some dude caught sight of her naked body, she blinded him in response (though she also gave him the gift of prophecy- but you do NOT want to be a Harem Anime hero when she's around!). So Athena was the Goddess of Heroes, alright... but don't piss her off.

Athena- Goddess of Heroic Endeavor:
-Athena was born from the forehead of Zeus- he had immolated and absorbed the energy of the pregnant Titaness Metis when it was prophesied that her son by him would grow to unseat Zeus himself. He had gone on his merry way, until a vicious headache overcame him- it was determined that excess energy was trying to burst forth from the King of the Gods. And so Zeus ordered his son Hephaestus to perform surgery on him- as soon as Hephaestus made the first incision, the energy surged forth. Before the assembled Gods appeared the Goddess Athena- clad in full armor and fully-grown. Athena soon became known as among the wisest and more sure-tempered of the Olympians, and became Zeus' favoured child.

-Her name "Pallas" comes in honor of a young friend of hers- a girl named Pallas, sired by the sea god Triton. Athena killed her in mock battle by accident, and in her grief, takes on the girl's name. Triton never forgave Athena for this. This was compounded by the feud between Athena and his father Poseidon- the two quarrelled over whom would be the "favored God" of the city of Athens, and when Athena was the victor (having created the Olive Tree to counter Poseidon's Saltwater Spring), Poseidon took this as a grave insult, and frequently attempted to counteract or befuddle his neice. Athena also became The Goddess of Heroic Endeavor, admiring and caring for humanity in a way her Olympian brethren did not- she frequently appeared before famous heroes, attempting to give them advice- aiding Bellerophon, Heracles, Jason and especially Odysseus, whom she guided on his journey back to Ithaca.

Athena- Not So Perfect:
-However, Athena was as capricious and vicious as any of her relatives in centuries past. She punished Medusa for sleeping with Poseidon in Athena's own temple, and turned her into a monster. When an apple titled "To The Fairest" was cast at the Gods, Athena joined Hera and Aphrodite in childishly competing for it, demanding Zeus decide a victor. When Zeus' proxy Paris chose Aphrodite, Athena swore revenge, and aided in the destruction of Paris's home city of Troy, the results of which killed thousands. When the weaver Arachne claimed to be Athena's superior at the art, Athena challenged her publically, and flew into a rage when Arachne mocked the Gods in her work. Arachne hung herself in penance and fear for the Goddess' revenge, and Athena, pitying her, endeavored to change her ways, and also resurrected her in the form of a Spider.

-Athena was also the Romans' "Minerva"- Goddess of Wisdom, War, Art, Schools & Commerce (similar to her Grecian persona)- taking the name from an Etruscan Wisdom Goddess (Menrva) she had slain years earlier. However, despite the same origins, she was largely-supplanted by Mars (Ares) in Roman myth, as he was far more worshipped. She was "combined" with various other Goddesses on the European continent as well.

Modern Athena:
-Athena, with most of the other Olympians, disappeared from the human world for centuries, spending time on other worlds, trying to build various cultures. She was always The Goddess of Heroic Endeavor, focusing her efforts on a few great individuals who could be counted on to empower their respective societies through example. She felt that in the long run, this was superior to creating a warrior culture (Ares' style), or armies of worshippers (Hera's). She returned to Earth during World War II after seeing the terror the War was inflicting across the globe- she revealed herself to humanity, and fought on behalf of the Allies, especially once Ares joined the Axis cause. She became a founding member of The Legion of Liberty, allying with numerous costumed heroes- for the first time in her life, she was an equal partner in a squad- not some mysterious figure. Such was the necessity of champions in this time of global crisis.

Jab's Notes: Athena is a huge, HUGE part of my setting. Arguably one of the oldest, too, as she was a member of my "Avengers"-like team, set up more in the Marvel sense. I petitioned and failed to get her included on Infinity Force in "Something Unique" (which I pouted about for WEEKS), but I always considered her my favorite of the Olympians. She's that way for many, if not most, people as well- though she had her bitchy moments (Medusa; Arachne), she is usually the most level-headed, brave, smart and crafty of the Gods, and the one most likely to help out humanity- many myths feature Athena (one of the most venerated Gods) descending from Olympus to aide mere mortals in their quests against certain monsters.

-With Athena, I wanted her to be a major character, but didn't want her to dominate things. I liked the idea of someone who just HELPED heroes being forced to actually BE one, thanks to the advent of World War and Super-Crime. I wanted her to be a key member of the main superhero team, but then I developed a setting around her as a Golden Age heroine (forced to battle Norse & Shinto Gods who fought for the Axis), then guiding a later generation of heroes in the sixties, to becoming a front-line fighter again in the modern age.

-I also considered it important not to just "drop" the bad things in her backstory. Pulling them to the limelight seemed like a fun idea, and "humanize" the character, as she's forced to confront her behavior (which was usually less extreme than the other Olympians anyhow).

-I'd only waited to post Athena till just now because... well, I had to wait a while before I could put a real focus on what is one of the biggest parts of my setting, and the hugest aspect of the "Greater World" backstory- the Olympians.

Relations with the other Gods:
Zeus- Athena is Zeus' favourite child, and the only one he permits to lecture or shame him (as she did when he fled from Typhon).
Hera- The two are distant, as Hera is with most of Zeus' "Bastards", but rarely oppose each other directly.
Apollo & Artemis- Cordial but sometimes distant, as the twins often have their own schemes.
Hades- Athena respects Hades for his general lack of impulsiveness, though is as uneasy around him as any reasonable people are of the Lord of the Dead.
Poseidon- The two are ancient enemies, going back to their competition over the worship of the people of Athens. Poseidon rarely strikes directly, but often schemes to see Athena's good deeds undone.
Triton- Poseidon's agent on Earth, Triton often battles Athena directly, and part of him hates her for her part in the death of his daughter Pallas, centuries ago. But the Sea Prince has also grown to care for Athena deeply.
Ares- A hated enemy, the two have often come to blows.
Eris- Eris is another hated foe, though more because Eris' random actions provoke discord in Athena's carefully-laid plans- her chaotic nature is as destructive as Ares' brutality in its own way. The fact that Eris revels in this, and taunts her sister, is just icing on the cake.
Hephaestus- Respected colleagues, though he once misinterpreted her kindness as love, and tried to jump her bones. It didn't end well.

Medusa didn't "sleep" with Poseidon, she was raped by him. Athena's response was probably one of the greatest examples of "victim blaming" ever.

Still, I love your version of Athena. Very cool.

I wasn't sure how much of that (an addition by Ovid) I wanted to include. I'm sure there's a "version" that's sans-rape anyhow :).
