HISTORY:
Lyla Michaels, alias Harbinger was rescued from floating in the sea as a child by the Monitor, who then brought her on-board his satellite to raise her as his assistant, studying the Multiverse alongside him.

Then the time came for Lyla to summon the heroes the Monitor needed to protect his cosmic tuning forks when very few of the positive-matter universes remained. Entering into an energy chamber in the heart of the satellite, Lyla was transformed into a multiple-copy person named Harbinger and sent across time and through different universes to gather up the selected heroes: some went willingly, others by force, and yet others by coercion.

On her way to gather Arion the sorcerer, a Shadow Demon possessed one of Harbinger's copies, allowing the Anti-Monitor to manipulate and use her for his purposes. Ultimately, she was used to kill the Monitor, only to find out that the Monitor had intended for Harbinger to kill him so that he could activate the machines and shunt the Earths 1 and 2 universes into a Netherverse where they would be safe from the anti-matter wave. But with the vibrations slowing between the two universes, they started to merge with each other and would eventually annihilate each other. Harbinger gathered a group of heroes to send them to the remaining positive-matter universes of Earths 4, S, and X to protect its citizens from the anti-matter wave while she concentrated all her power on bringing those universes into the Netherverse. As she succeeded in doing so, Lyla lost her power to become Harbinger, though she continued to assist the heroes in other ways.

With the resetting of the universe that took place following the battle at the Dawn of Time, Lyla became Harbinger again, revealing that with the resetting of time, all the surviving positive-matter universes have all merged into one universe with one history. She helped the heroes defeat the Anti-Monitor once and for all when he used his power to transport Earth into the anti-matter universe. She returned to Earth and joined her fellow surviving team members Lady Quark and Pariah in the exploration of the New Earth reality.

After the Amazons attack on Superman and Batman in Central Park, Lyla/Harbinger was shown to be living on Paradise Island. When the Amazons returned with Kara Zor-El, Lyla and Kara become quick friends, although Lyla was burdened by visions of what she believed to be the oncoming death of Supergirl. When Darkseid attacked Paradise Island, Lyla gave her life in an attempt to save Kara, and it turns out the death she had foreseen was her own all along.

HISTORY:
Hank Hall was originally Hawk, of the superhero team Hawk and Dove. In contrast to his brother Dove who represents order and peace, he represents chaos and war. The duo are empowered by the mystical Lords of Chaos and Order. After his brother's death, he worked with a new Dove named Dawn Granger. During Armageddon 2001, he became the supervillain Monarch and during Zero Hour he became known as Extant, one of the most powerful beings in the universe wielding the combined energies of both Hawk and Dove. Although he died fighting the Justice Society, he resurfaces during Blackest Night as a member of the Black Lantern Corps.

Brothers Hank and Don Hall gained their powers of heightened strength and agility from two Lords of Chaos and Order fallen in love. and fought crime together as Hawk and Dove, despite their diametrically opposed opinions about the use of force. The conservative Hawk (Hank) was hot-headed and reactionary, whereas the liberal Dove (Don) was more thoughtful and reasoned (but prone to indecisiveness). Their father, a judge, displayed more balanced political beliefs and firmly disapproved of vigilantism, not knowing his sons were costumed adventurers.

Hawk and Dove would eventually become members of the world-famous group of teenaged superheroes, the Teen Titans. They first met the original team at the time consisting of Robin, Kid Flash, Speedy and Wonder Girl when both groups were tracking down the same gang. After philanthropist Loren Jupiter began financing the team, Hawk and Dove joined as regular full-time members. However, their responsibilities back in Elmond forced them to quit later.

The Halls did eventually join Titans West though, along with Lilith, Beast Boy, Batgirl, Golden Eagle, and even Gnarrk. Together, they were part of a team that took down master criminals Captain Calamity and Mister Esper, discovering a link between attacks on them and those on the East Coast.

During the 1980's, the pair struggled with a disillusioning world that had evolved past their individual ideals, and expectations. The mysterious voice that had granted them their powers came back to strip them of them until they could become worthy of them once again. Still, they managed to attend the wedding of Donna Troy and Terry Long.

During the first big Crisis, Hank and Don came out of retirement and were back in action once again. They were seen as a part of the large group of heroes who went back in time to bravely fight the Anti-Monitor at the Big Bang. Unfortunately, while saving a small child from a burning building, Dove was murdered and obliterated by the Shadow Demons that were invading the world.[10] This only served to make Hawk angrier, without an anchor to control him.

With his brother dead, Hawk was on a bad path to becoming a dangerous man. He joined an incarnation of the New Titans, but required frequent calming to make sure he did not kill any of the villains they fought. A woman named Dawn Granger became the new Dove after mysteriously gaining her powers in London. Although at first Hank did not take kindly to another person taking his brother's position, he eventually warmed up to her and they became an excellent team together.

Monarch was an oppressive tyrant from a bleak, dystopian Earth fifty years in the future. The people were unhappy with his rule, particularly a scientist named Matthew Ryder, an expert on temporal studies, who was convinced he could use his technology to travel back in time and prevent the maniacal ruler from ever coming to power. He learned that forty years ago, one of Earth's heroes would eventually turn evil and become Monarch, and ten years from that would conquer the world. During a time travel experiment, Matthew was transformed into Waverider, and began searching the timestream for the hero who would become Monarch, little knowing that Monarch was following him. When Monarch came into battle with the heroes of the present day, he killed Dove, and her enraged partner killed him for it. Removing the villains mask, Hank discovered that HE was Monarch, and donned the armor.

When hostile aliens encounter Monarch and Atom in the past (sometime between 230 and 65 million years ago), they attempt to enlist both (without either's knowledge) to assist them in creating a wormhole. The wormhole's creation would destroy the universe in which the primitive Earth existed, but would allow the aliens to travel freely.

Shortly after returning to the present, Monarch confronted Waverider and absorbed most of his time-warping abilities, giving him the power to travel through time as he pleased. Calling himself Extant, he joined forces with renegade Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), now known as Parallax, in a plan to alter time as they saw fit (as seen in Zero Hour).

His first act was to alter the future so that he could have a meta-human army at his disposal, mostly consisting of members of the Teen Titans; his plan was to amass an army so powerful that no one could interfere with his efforts to control time itself. Several heroes banded together to stop his plans before they began in the 30th century, and altered history so that his followers never came to exist in the future.

Down, but not out, Extant began to strike back at the heroes at Ground Zero, the beginning of time. Parallax had warped several meta-humans from various time periods together for the ultimate assault, and Extant hit the Atom with a chronal blast, de-aging him into a teenager. Sensing defeat was imminent, he escaped the fight, promising vengeance at a later date.

Extant would first reappear in the 1999 one-shot, "Impulse: Bart Saves the Universe." In it, Extant picks a fight with the original Justice Society as a means of tricking the Linear Men into saving the life of an innocent bystander who was destined to die. The man they saved would now go on to develop a nuclear weapon that, when tested, would shift the Earth out of its proper orbit, causing massive changes in the timelines of some of Earth's greatest heroes. Among these changes, Hal Jordan never becomes Green Lantern, thus he never becomes Parallax, and never stops Extant from destroying all of time. Fortunately for the citizens of time, Impulse arrives and is able to defeat Extant and prevent the Linear Men from saving the doomed scientist.

He would engage the Justice Society again on a later date where, following another setback, he again attempted to escape. Instead, Extant was teleported (by Hourman (Rex Tyler) and Metron of the New Gods at Atom-Smasher's behest) into the seat of an airplane whose crash Kobra had caused earlier (in his relative timestream). As a result of this, Atom-Smasher's mother was saved; she was on the plane when it crashed, but Atom Smasher replaced his mother with a weakened Extant, saving her life but murdering the supervillain. Extant is believed to have died as a result, and, indeed, his appearance as a zombie in Teen Titans #31 (2006) (alongside his brother, Don) would seem to confirm his death. However, as a time traveler, this does not preclude further appearances of Hank Hall, because many versions of him still exist throughout the timestream.

Hank Hall is resurrected as a zombie to join the new Black Lantern Corps and receives a Black Lantern Ring during the events of Blackest Night. His brother Don is unable to be brought back from the dead by the rings, because unlike Hank, his soul is completely at peace. Immediately, back in his uniform as Hawk but with a distinctly more macabre inflection, Hank attacks the new Hawk and Dove, Dawn and Holly Granger. Although he was unable to get his hands on Dove due to her powers, he tore his successor's heart out to consume her rage. In the aftermath of the final battle, Hank is brought back to life by the power of the white light.

Dawn starts to worry about Hank's behavior when he was resurrected, as he has become even more violent than he had been prior to his death. Later she bumps into Deadman when he accidentally teleports into her room while she is sleeping. After introducing himself, Hawk comes crashing in and holds him toward a wall. Deadman tells his story of what happened so far and Hawk comes up with an idea to try to resurrect Don. However, that attempt failed as Don told Deadman he is at peace. Dawn then suggests that he try reviving Holly instead.

Around this same time period, Dawn and Hank are recruited into the Birds of Prey by Zinda Blake while in Gotham to stop some teenaged super villains. Immediately after their meeting with Zinda, the two are called in by Oracle to rescue Black Canary and Huntress from a villainess calling herself White Canary.

Shortly after this, Hawk and Dove were summoned by Oracle to fight along the heroes of Gotham against the Seven Men of Death and prevent them from reaching their target, Vicki Vale.

HISTORY:
Shiera Sanders, the Golden Age Hawkgirl, was the wife of Carter Hall, the Golden Age Hawkman. She was also a member of the All-Star Squadron and a close associate of the Justice Society of America.

Centuries ago, Chay-Ara and her lover Prince Khufu were killed by Hath-Set with a knife forged from an alien metal called the nth metal. The properties of the metal and the strength of the duo's love created a bond between them, causing them to be reborn multiple times throughout the centuries.

In the early 20th century, Chay-Ara was reborn as Shiera Sanders. She was kidnapped by Dr. Anton Hastor (a reincarnation of Hath-Set) but subsequently rescued by Hawkman (her reborn lover Khufu). Shiera became the hero's frequent ally and love interest. Eventually, she was granted a costume of her own and a belt of gravity-defying nth metal and joined him at his side as Hawkgirl.

The Hawks were members of the All-Star Squadron, and while Hawkman was a member of the Justice Society of America, Hawkgirl was not, only assisting the group on occasion. Eventually, Carter and Shiera married and they later had one son, Hector Hall.

In more recent times, both Shiera and Carter (who aged at a far slower rate than normal humans due to exposure to an unknown type of radiation in 1942) both came out of retirement and joined the Justice League of America as well as serving on occasion with the Justice Society, which had likewise returned to active duty.

Shiera died when she was merged with Carter and Katar Hol to form a new Hawkman version, a "hawk god" creature, during the events of Zero Hour.

In the wake of Nekron's assault on all life, Shiera was one of a small group of people to be resurrected by the light of the White Lantern Power Battery. Carter and Shiera followed Hath-Set, who has collected the bones from all of their past bodies, and created from them a portal to Hawkworld. While there, Shiera is kidnap by Hath-Set's minions and, told by the Entity to stop Hath-Set from killing Carter, because if he dies one time more, he does not undergo the cycle of resurrection again. Shiera is attacked in Hawkworld's dungeon by Hath-Set's queen, and the queen reveals to Shiera that she is her mother.

HISTORY:
Kendra Saunders was a young woman who committed suicide. When her soul left her body, her great-aunt, Shiera Hall's soul, entered it. Her grandfather, former OSS agent and globe-trotting adventurer Speed Saunders, recognized this change and encouraged his granddaughter to embrace her destiny as the "new" Hawkgirl.

She believed herself to still be Kendra, even going as far as using the original Hawkgirl equipment, and went out to find the Fate-Child (the reincarnation of Shiera's son, Hector Hall). During her search, she came across the Justice Society of America and became a member.

She had all of Kendra's memories, but almost none of Shiera's. This created tension with Hawkman since he remembered all of their past lives together and believed they were destined for each other. Kendra had been presented as a very troubled young woman, haunted by the murder of her parents by a corrupt cop and confused by her jumble of memories and feelings. She operated as Hawkman's partner, but only recently began to actually admit her attraction to him. The truth about Kendra's identity was eventually revealed to her by the angel Zauriel.

During the onset of the Rann-Thanagar War, Troia recruited Kendra and other heroes. A Zeta Beam transporter malfunction injured Kendra and several other heroes, causing her to grow over 20 ft tall.

Later she was returned to normal and renewed her protection of St. Roch, Louisiana, in Hawkman's absence. She also took over as the curator of the Stonechat Museum. She then was inducted as a member to the newly reformed Justice League of America. Hawkgirl began a turbulent relationship with Red Arrow, but past relationships, parenting, and being unable to express their feelings to each other caused problems. Eventually, the relationship dissolved and Red Arrow left the Justice League.

Hawkgirl then became 100% Kendra Saunders as a result of Shiera Hall's soul leaving Kendra's body and moving on to the afterlife. Shiera hoped her passing on would finally remove the curse of Hath-Set.

Kendra and Carter were briefly reunited, and she was about to tell him something, when she was stabbed in the back by a spear by the recently resurrected Sue Dibny. Before having her heart removed, Kendra finally told Carter her feelings. She and Carter were then transformed into Black Lanterns. When Hawkgirl was subsequently resurrected by the White Lantern and removed her helmet, it was to reveal the face of Shiera Hall, all trace of Kendra having apparently been erased.

HISTORY:
Originally Prince Khufu of ancient Egypt, the hero who would become known as Hawkman discovered an alien spacecraft from the planet Thanagar, powered by a mysterious anti-gravity element called Nth Metal. The unearthly energies of the metal transformed his soul, and he and his love Princess Chay-Ara were reincarnated over and over for centuries. Currently he is Carter Hall, archaeologist and adventurer.

Prince Khufu lived during the reign of Ramesses II in the 19th dynasty of ancient Egypt. Khufu believed that his ka, or soul, would not journey on to the land of the afterlife. Rather, his soul and that of his betrothed, Chay-Ara, were fated to remain in the mortal world.

As prophesied by the wizard Nabu, a space ship landed in Egypt. Prince Khufu, Nabu, and the champion Teth Adam searched the desert, finally coming across the remains of a Thanagarian ship styled with a hawk-like motif. Nabu cast a spell translating the strange language of the female space traveler. Just before dying, she whispered the words, "Nth Metal", the name of the substance that powered the downed ship.

Teth-Adam lifted the ship back to Khufu's palace, where it was studied inside the Temple of Horus at Erdu. The remaining Nth metal was examined, and its most obvious property proves to be its ability to negate gravity. The remaining sample from the ship was melted and used to create several remarkable devices, including a scarab which allowed Khufu to fly, a deadly knife, and a battle glove referred to as the Claw of Horus. However, the metal also strengthened the souls of Khufu and Chay-Ara, binding them together in their love and imprinting them with the collective knowledge of Thanagar. Although the villainous priest Hath-Set murdered the two with the knife of Nth metal, their souls lived on in the mortal plane. They were reincarnated over many lifetimes, always finding true love in each other. However, they were cursed to be repeatedly killed at the hands of a reincarnated Hath-Set.

After his death, Khufu's soul was reincarnated countless times in markedly different eras and locations. Some of his known reincarnated identities have included:
  • Brian Kent (also known as the Silent Knight), alive during 5th century Britain, lover of Lady Celia Penbrook
  • Koenrad Von Grimm, the son of a blacksmith in 14th century Germany
  • Captain John Smith of the 16th century English colony in Virginia
  • Hannibal Hawkes, the Nighthawk, a gun-fighter in the American Old West, lover of Cinnamon
  • Detective James Wright, a Pinkerton detective in the early 20th century, lover of Sheila Carr.
Eventually, the soul of Prince Khufu was reborn as Carter Hall, an archaeologist active during the 1940s. After regaining the memories of his first and early life in Egypt, Hall used the hawk motif of the Egyptian God Horus to inspire his role as the original Hawkman.

During the same period, his love Chay-Ara was reborn as archaeologist Shiera Sanders. After the two met, she became Hawkgirl, fighting at Carter's side. They became founding members of the Justice Society of America, and Hawkman took the role of chairman. The pair reduced their activities in the early 1950s but became fully active again decades later when first Carter and then Sheira joined the Justice League of America (while continuing to also work with the revived JSA). The two had a son, Hector Hall, who eventually became a founding member of Infinity Inc. as the Silver Scarab, and later adopted the identity of the Sandman before becoming an incarnation of Doctor Fate. Following the event known as the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Hawkman and the JSA became trapped in a battle in an ever-repeating Ragnarok. The Norse god Odin tried unsuccessfully to give a crystal sphere containing this repeating Ragnarok to Dream, lord of the Dreaming as a trade, knowing that Dream had by this time selected Carter's grandson, Daniel Hall, as his successor. Back on Earth meanwhile, others took up the mantles of Hawkman and Hawkwoman, first Thanagarian spy Fel Andar and his human wife, and then a more benevolent pair of Thanagarians.

HISTORY:
Fel Andar came to Earth years ago as a sleeper agent for the planet Thanagar, eventually being called into active service and taking on the identity of 'Carter Hall Jr.', the previously unsuspected elder son of Carter Hall, the original Hawkman (who had at that time disappeared along with his comrades in the Justice Society of America) in the run up to an attempted invasion of Earth.

In 1947, the Thanagarian siblings known as Andar Nal and Andar Pul arrived on the planet Earth for the purpose of scientific study. Andar Nal met and fell in love with an Earth woman named Naomi O'Neill. The two were married and by 1948, they gave birth to a son, Fel Andar. Andar Nal brought his son back to Thanagar so that he could be raised in the customary Thanagarian tradition.

Many years later, the Thanagarians placed Fel Andar in charge of an undercover espionage mission on Earth. His objective was to gather as much information as he could obtain regarding Earth's offensive capabilities and report back to Thanagar. Thanagar in the meanwhile, were conspiring with several other alien races in an effort to amass an Invasion force to conquer Earth

Andar had taken a human wife, Sharon Parker who had borne him a son, Ch'al Andar (or, on Earth, 'Charley Parker'), who as a teenager became the hero Golden Eagle. When Andar began his masquerade as Carter Hall Jr., Sharon was brainwashed into believing she was Sharon Hall, AKA Hawkwoman. Fel and Sharon both became members of the Justice League International for a time, though Sharon eventually discovered Andar's true identity. He murdered her, but she lived long enough to warn the Martian Manhunter about his deception, and Andar was forced to flee Earth.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for his failure on Thanagar, but got the opportunity to try to reconcile with his estranged son during the Rann-Thanagar War. By this time, Fel had renounced his past and wanted nothing more than peace, but he was murdered by Blackfire.

HISTORY:
Katar Hol was a young police officer (or 'Wingman') from the planet Thanagar, the son of Paran Katar, who helped found the Wingmen. Hol was unhappy with the injustices he saw in Thanagarian culture and became a drug addict before being tricked by his corrupt superior Byth Rok into killing his own father. Hol was sentenced to a period of exile on the Isle of Chance, where he defeated his inner demons and overcame his addiction, before returning to society, exposing Byth and clearing his name. Reinstated into the police, Hol was partnered with Shayera Thal and the pair were sent to Earth as goodwill ambassadors following the failed Invasion of Earth in which Thanagar had participated. Operating out of Chicago, they adopted the costumed identities of the then vanished heroes Hawkman and Hawkwoman, eventually encountering the originals when they reappeared. Katar eventually learned that his father had befriended the original Hawks, Carter and Shiera Hall, when on Earth gathering intelligence decades ago, and that the Wingmen had been inspired by them. Katar also learned that he himself was of mixed heritage; his mother had been a Cherokee woman named Naomi with whom Paran had fallen in love.

Following the events of Zero Hour, Katar was somehow physically and mentally merged with the Halls to create a new being, a Hawkman who was a living avatar of an extradimensional Hawk God (though Katar's was the dominant personality). Unfortunately, without Shayera (who had departed for parts unknown) to restrain him, the transformation was too much for Katar and it drove him insane. He became a danger to Earth and was eventually banished to Limbo by the Martian Manhunter and the mage Arion. Carter Hall later returned from Limbo in a rejuvenated form which had darker hair, like Katar's; the soul of Katar Hol is believed to have dissipated in Limbo.

HISTORY:
Years after they vanished, Hawkman and the JSA returned to the modern day when a primitive but super powered tribe volunteered to substitute themselves in the Ragnarok cycle. Soon after, however, death seemingly found Carter once again during the events of Zero Hour. He and his wife Shiera seemingly merged with Katar Hol, a Thanagarian police officer who had succeeded Carter as Hawkman in his absence, as a new incarnation of Hawkman who briefly acted as host to the mysterious "hawk god" creature. This individual was active for a short time but soon lost his sanity and was banished to Limbo (it was eventually revealed that Shiera's soul had actually migrated to the body of her great-niece, Kendra Saunders, who had committed suicide).

Years later, JSA member Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) was transported to a ravaged Thanagar by the High Priests of the Downsiders. Seeking a champion to stop the evil Onimar Synn from enslaving the planet, the priests used Kendra's centuries-old connection to Carter to bring him back to the mortal plain. Following this unorthodox resurrection, Hall retained all the memories of his past lives, as well as those of Katar Hol, the Thanagarian Hawkman. It has since been stated that the soul of Katar Hol has passed on from Limbo and that Carter no longer retains his memories, though his current form still retains some of Hol's physical characteristics (notably his dark hair).

After defeating Onimar Synn, Hall once again became a member of the JSA. Operating both with the JSA and with Hawkgirl, Hall embarked on a wide variety of exotic adventures. His quest as a hero took him from the streets of St. Roch to exotic dimensions and even into outer space as he fought in the Rann-Thanagar War. Following this event, Carter stayed in space for some months in order to help mediate the truce on Rann and avenge the murder of Shayera Thal, who as Hawkwoman had been the partner of the late Katar Hol.

As a result, Hawkgirl was left by herself to patrol and protect St. Roch.

Returning to space to help during the Rann-Thanagar Holy War, Carter was approached by the Demiurge, a nameless god who inspired Plato into describing his namesake. The Demiurge denounced the cycle of incarnation and rebirths of Khufu and Chay-Ara as lies, simple grafts of the alternate versions of Carter and Shiera residing in the different worlds of the multiverse that existed before the Crisis on Infinite Earths. He informed Carter that there were "Six Aberrations" in total, including Hawkman, whose origins were muddled and damaged by the the destruction and recreation of the universe. Carter was moderately impressed, until the Demiurge inexplicably began addressing him as Katar Hol. Nothing appears to have come of this though, and it has since been stated that these events were not as they seemed.

Carter and Kendra were reunited, only to be attacked by Black Lanterns Ralph and Sue Dibny, who were recently resurrected by Black Power Rings, before having their hearts torn out from their bodies, and becoming undead Black Lanterns themselves.

However, by the end of the horrific crisis, Carter and Shiera Hall (no longer looking like or believing herself to be the deceased Kendra), along with ten other people, were reanimated by the power of the White Lantern.

In the Brightest Day, Carter and Shiera follow Hath-Set, who has collected the bones from all of their past bodies, and created from them a portal to Hawkworld. While there, Carter is told by the Entity to "stop the Queen Khea" from leaving. While Hawkgirl is held by Hath-Set and his Queen Khea, Hawkman and his group of the panthera attack the Manhawks homeworld. Hawkman hears Hawkgirl's cries and charges toward to rescue her. His arrival leads to a confrontation with Queen Khea, who turns out to be the mother of Shiera Hall. During the fight, Queen Khea controls his Nth metal mace and armor, and Hawkman is tied together with Hawkgirl. Queen Khea opens the gateway and enters the portal to the Zamaron homeworld. When she arrives on the Zamaron homeworld, Star Sapphire (Carol Ferris) frees them both to stop Queen Khea's invasion. The two attack Queen Khea as Hawkgirl wants to face her, but the Predator Entity bonds with the Queen.

Shiera and Carter manage to eventually separate both of them by stabbing Khea at the same time with weapons made of Zamaronian crystals. The bones of the past lives of Hawkman and Hawkgirl separate from the gateway, and, animated by the violet light of love, grab Khea and imprison her in the Zamaronian Central Power Battery. Shiera and Carter, with both of their missions accomplished and lives returned are teleported back to St. Roch by Carol. Carter and Shiera are interrupted by Deadman, whose white ring tells the two of them that they should lead separate lives. Carter refuses and says they are not going to live apart again, the ring responds "So be it" and unleashes a blast of white light that kills Hawkman and Hawkgirl, turning them into dust. Deadman orders the ring to resurrect both Hawkman and Hawkgirl, but the ring refuses, saying that Hawkman was brought back to life to overcome what held him back in his past life because he was essential in saving Earth.

When the "Dark Avatar", made his presence known, Hawkman and Hawkgirl are revealed to be part of the Elementals, guardians of the forest located in Star City. They were transformed by the Entity to become the element of air and protect the Star City forest from the "Dark Avatar", which appears to be the Black Lantern version of the Swamp Thing. The Elementals are then fused with the body of Alec Holland in order for him to be transformed by the Entity into the new Swamp Thing and battle against the Dark Avatar. After the Dark Avatar is defeated, Swamp Thing appears to have brought the Elementals back to normal; however, as Hawkman looks around for Shiera, he discovers that she was not brought back like he was. He is later told by Swamp Thing that Shiera is everywhere, revealing that she was still the elemental of air. Afterward, Hawkman returns home yelling "Shiera".

HISTORY:
A chemist who discovered the miraculous chemical Miraclo, Rex Tyler became the super-hero Hourman, able to use extraordinary abilities for an hour at a time. He became a valued member of the Justice Society and the All-Star Squadron.

Raised in upstate New York, young Rex Tyler found an affinity for the sciences, particularly those areas involving chemistry and biology. Working his way through college, he landed a job researching vitamins and hormone supplements at Bannerman Chemical. A series of discoveries and accidents led him to the "miraculous vitamin" or Miraclo. He found that concentrated doses of that "vitamin" gave a strength and vigor to laboratory mice several times that of normal. Taking a dose, Rex found that his strength, vitality and speed increased to super-human levels. However, the human body could only process the Miraclo for one hour at a time, after which the subject was left weakened and returned to human strength levels.

Keeping his discovery of Miraclo a secret, Tyler decided that human trials could be limited to the only subject he could trust... himself. Feeling that the Miraclo-induced abilities should be used for good purposes, he decided to use the abilities to help those who needed it. His first mission came as a result of Tyler's placing an ad stating that "The Man of The Hour" would help those that needed it. Tracking down one respondent to the ad, he aided a housewife whose husband was falling in with the wrong crowd, and stopped a robbery. Using a costume he found in an abandoned costume shop, he started to adventure as The Hour-Man (later dropping the hyphen).

Nearly eleven months later, after becoming noted for helping the "common man" and battling weird menaces, Hourman became a charter member of the Justice Society of America. Faced with heroes that used magic, flew and wielded mystical rings, Hourman further strengthened his Miraclo and this led to it slowly becoming addictive.

During one case, Tyler's heart gave out, his system poisoned with the toxic side effects of Miraclo. Doctor Fate, through mystical means, cleansed Hourman, and after the case, he retired from active crime fighting, taking a leave of absence from the JSA. During that final case, he was irradiated with chronal energies that slowed his aging later in life.

Even as diminished use and refinement led Rex to abandon his Hourman identity in 1943, the physical and emotional strain too great even for occasional use. He did assist the JSA on occasion, but after 1945, he devoted his time and effort to biochemical advances. Using independent patent royalties, he purchased Bannerman Chemical and renamed it Tyler Chemical Company (later TylerCo). With branch labs around the US, Rex Tyler had little time to relive his wartime glory days.

About twenty five years ago, Rex began to take up company with Wendi Harris, an up-and-coming stage actress. During one of their dates, they ran across The Psycho-Pirate, a modern criminal whose mentor was an old Justice Society foe. Along with a recently empowered Doctor Fate, the duo defeated the villain and Rex worked up the courage to ask Wendi to marry him, despite the twenty-some odd year difference in their ages. Wendi agreed, and they were soon blessed with a son, Richard. To Rex's consternation, Rick showed no interest in things academic, instead leaning towards sports and art. This was a major source of friction between father and son for most of their lives.

Seeing that one day his son might want to take up the cause and fight for justice, Rex began secretly tailoring the Miraclo formula using genetic engineering for use by Rick or his descendants. He forbade Rick from taking up the Miraclo Pill, citing its side-effects. However, during the Crisis on Infinite Earths, to save the lives of people trapped during one of the time-storms, Rick took the pills and began to adventure as Hourman as his father and his fellow Justice Society members were caught in a limbo-like dimension.

He was seemingly killed along with other Golden Agers fighting a time traveling villain named Extant during the events of Zero Hour. He was recently rescued from that fate by the third Hourman who took his place in that battle. Rex now lives in semi-retirement with his wife Wendi.

HISTORY:
Rick Tyler was born the child of Rex Tyler. Rex was a successful hero and business man, but he wasn't a very a good father. When Rex wasn't spending time with business, he was out doing his superhero work, as addicted to it as the substance that he created that gave him his powers; Miraclo. This meant that Rick rarely saw his dad, even on his birthdays, and eventually Rex wasn't even sure of the age of his son.

It was no surprise that although Rick would develop into a well-balanced teen, he was consistently looking for his father's guidance and approval. Yet Rex could not see the role model Rick really needed, and he tried to push Rick's education to its limits, an endeavor that Rick didn't wish to pursue, and he constantly felt inferior to his father.

Rick became the second Hourman when the Crisis on Infinite Earths threatened all of reality, and he used one of his dad's Miraclo pills to save the life of Beth Chapel, whom he grew quite fond of. His father strongly disapproved of Rick's actions, knowing the addictive effects of Miraclo and tried to prevent Rick from taking up the Hourman mantle. Nonetheless, Rick ended up trying to join a team of other 2nd generation heroes known as Infinity, Inc. Although Rex was able to temporarily dissuade his son, Rick still tried to convince his father otherwise.

Matters became worse, however when Rex, along with his teammates in the Justice Society of America sacrificed themselves to fight eternal Ragnarok in Limbo. When Northwind and Beth Chapel came to tell him of the news, Rick fled in grief. He was later kidnapped by the new group Injustice Unlimited, themselves former members of the Injustice Society and used as a hostage against Infinity Inc. Rick was able to escape, but in the process, seemingly killed the Wizard.

Rick had a hard time forgiving himself, although it would later be revealed that the Wizard was in fact still alive. Rick gave up the Hourman identity almost as soon as he assumed it, angrily unmasking before a press photographer. Luckily, Lyta was able to prevent the photo from being taken and took Rick away, trying to console him.

Nonetheless, Rick wore his Hourman outfit another time to attend the court hearing for the villain Mister Bones, although Rick feared he himself was just as bad as Bones, suspecting that the Miraclo pills had simply worked on an already violent urge when he killed the Wizard. Eventually though, Rick returned to his Hourman identity, wearing an outfit similar to his father's in honor of him. Shortly afterwards, Infinity Inc. disbanded.

Eventually, Rex and the rest of the JSA returned from Limbo and he and Rick were reunited. In the meantime, Rick had contracted leukaemia due to the prolonged exposure to Miraclo. With the help of Rex's old teammate, Johnny Chambers (aka Johnny Quick), both Rex and Rick learned to tap into their superhuman powers without the use of Miraclo, using Chambers' mind-focusing technique instead.

Father and son would only spent a short time together, when the villain Extant killed Rex and some of his allies from the Justice Society during the event known as Zero Hour. Shortly afterwards Rick endured another tragic blow when his sweetheart, Beth Chapel (as Dr. Midnight) was slain by Eclipso.

Rick remained retired from the superhero business for some time, during which he met the new android Hourman. This android had been engineered by his time traveling father from Rex's own DNA. Although Rick initially intensely disliked the new Hourman, he was saved by the android when he transported Rick into the Timepoint (a place where time stands still), so that he would be spared from an unidentifiable alien illness.

The two would grow closer when the android then cured Rick of his cancer and bestowed upon him two gifts. Rick was now able to occasionally see one hour into the future, as well as being given an hour with his father in the Timepoint. The Hourman android had plucked Rex out of the timestream seconds before he was killed fighting Extant. When the hour in the Timepoint expired, however, Rex would be sent back in time, where he would fight and die. The transportation to the Timepoint would be activated by a button in Rick's Hourman gloves.

Now cured of all his illnesses, Rick resumed the mantle of Hourman (adopting a new costume in the process), using the non-addictive form of Miraclo, and joined a makeshift JSA in defeating the Ultra-Humanite. Rick remained with the JSA after this battle and began growing close to Jesse Chambers, who was the JSA's business manager and also the superheroine Jesse Quick. Rick is still close to his mother and has a strained relationship with his cousin Rebecca who runs his father's company TylerCo.

When the JSA traveled with Hawkman to the Middle Eastern country of Kahndaq to stop Black Adam, Rick was severely injured by one of Nemesis' swords. Realizing that he would die from the massive blood loss unless he was quickly operated on, Rick saw no choice but to transport himself to the Timepoint where his father was. Rick quickly swapped places with his father, and the Timepoint held Rick and his wounds in stasis. Rex was returned to the regular world and was left with no means of returning to the Timepoint nor any idea how he could save his son.

The answer once again came in the form of the android Hourman, who transported Rex and several other JSA members to the Timepoint, amongst them the latest Dr. Mid-Nite (Pieter Cross), who was able to save Rick's life. The time used to save Rick also meant that Rex's time was up, and that he would have to return to fighting Extant. Rick, however, tried to take his place, so that his father could live again. Instead, the android Hourman sacrificed himself so that both Hourmen may live. Rex retrieved the damaged Hourman parts and is trying to rebuild him, while Rick continues to operate with the JSA.

While returning once more to Kahndaq to face the Spectre, Rick's friend Jakeem Thunder tried to trap the Spectre inside his magical pen, but was instead himself thrown into the 5th Dimension. Rick, Mr. Terrific and Stargirl ventured into the 5th Dimension and rescued Jakeem from the thralls of Qwsp.

Rick is part of the newly reformed Justice Society of America and is married to Jesse Chambers; now going by the name Liberty Belle.

Rick later left the JSA to help form its sister All Stars team. He was a valuable member of that team, under the leadership of Powergirl, until it disbanded. He has since returned to the JSA full time.

TALENTS: Student

CONTACTS: Young Avengers, Wiccan, Super Skrull, Skrull Loyalists

HISTORY:
During the Kree-Skrull War, the Super-Skrull kidnapped Captain Marvel, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch and presented them to the Skrull Emperor. While being imprisoned, Captain Marvel and the Emperor's daughter, Princess Anelle, had a brief affair and she conceived a child. Fearing for his safety, Anelle sent the child away with her nursemaid immediately after his birth. The servant took the child to Earth to be raised by his father, but after arriving on Earth she learned that Captain Marvel had died. Mrs. Altman decided to raise the child as her own and posed as a single mother working in real estate and named the child Theodore "Teddy" Rufus Altman.

On Earth, Teddy used his powers mainly in an effort to fit in with his high school classmates, particularly the class president and basketball team captain, Greg Norris. Fitting in for Teddy included using his shapeshifting to provide access to New York City high life by impersonating various superheroes and celebrities. Finally, when Greg coerced him into breaking into the ruins of Avengers Mansion, Teddy decided that some things were more important than fitting in, and rather than let Greg loot the mansion, he ended the friendship.

Teddy was one of the people listed in the Avengers Fail-Safe Program, compiled by the Vision to be used to form a new team of superheroes in the event of the destruction or disbandment of the Avengers. Iron Lad, a younger version of Kang the Conqueror, found Teddy using the Vision’s Fail-Safe Program and requested his help in preventing his future self from returning him to the future. Teddy joined the Young Avengers and adopted the super-hero identity of the Hulkling. He began dating his teammate, Wiccan.

Teddy's life changed again when the shape-shifting extraterrestrial known as the Super-Skrull showed up, claiming that Teddy was a Skrull. The Super-Skrull was surprised to learn that Teddy had super strength and wondered if "perhaps the rumors about his father [were] true."

The Super-Skrull followed the Young Avengers to the home of Wiccan, where Teddy's mother was waiting for him. The Super-Skrull released a device designed to turn Teddy into his true form, trying to prove to him his Skrull heritage. However, the device didn't change Teddy's physical appearance. Instead, Ms. Altman, who was also caught in the device's beam, revealed her true Skrull form. When the Super Skrull accused her of being a traitor to her race, she responded by saying that the Empress ordered her to protect Teddy. Before she could say much else, the Super-Skrull killed her and kidnapped Teddy.

The Super-Skrull broadcasted to all Skrull worlds that he had located Dorrek VIII, though Teddy insisted that he was not a Skrull. Kl'rt insisted that was and revealed the truth about his past. He insisted that he must return to his people so that they could reunite the Skrull Empire. Kree soldiers then arrived to help Teddy, stating that the Kree looked after their own. A battle then erupted between the Kree and the Skrulls, both claiming Teddy as their own. The only solution that Teddy saw to end the battle was surrender. It was settled that Teddy would spend half an Earth-year with the Kree and the other half with the Skrull, at which time he would declare his ultimate allegiance, while also being able to make scheduled visits to Earth. It was later revealed that the "Teddy" who left with the Kree was actually the Super-Skrull disguised as him, and therefore the real Teddy stayed on Earth.

During the Civil War, S.H.I.E.L.D. arrested the Young Avengers. However, Falcon and Captain America intercepted the S.H.I.E.L.D bus which was transporting the prisoners, and Wiccan teleported the team out of the situation, into the Resistance Fighters base of operations.

When the Runaways tried to stay out of the conflict, they barely managed to escape from the government forces. Hearing of this development in the news, the Young Avengers decided to help the Runaways even though Captain America vetoed the plan. Wiccan used his magic to locate and teleport to the Runaways. However, the Runaways believed that the Young Avengers had come to capture them and a fight ensued until Patriot succeeded in convincing Nico Minoru to stop the hostilities. The two teams were later attacked by Marvel Boy, who captured Wiccan, Karolina and Hulkling, and almost killed Xavin. The young heroes became the prisoners of the Warden, who proceeded to practice vivisection on the unconscious Teddy. The boys were rescued by Xavin, whose Skrull physiology allowed him to recover from Noh-Varr's attack. Billy came close to killing the Warden, but Teddy stopped him.

Teddy played a pivotal role in Captain America's plan for the final confrontation with Iron Man's forces, impersonating Yellowjacket in order to free the imprisoned heroes of Prison 42.

Shortly after the return of Captain Marvel, Teddy and Billy saw him battling giant robots alongside the Avengers on a broadcast in Times Square. Teddy quickly arranged a meeting with the Captain to explain their biological relationship. Captain Marvel was shocked by the news as he never knew a child was conceived during his and Anelle's secret union. Captain Marvel needed to process this new information and almost immediately departed. He returned later to again speak with Teddy. The two discussed the Captain and Anelle's brief courtship, Marvel's cancer and his quest to return to his own time period. Before separating, Marvel told Teddy that he was proud of him for having become a warrior and the two agreed to meet again, though Teddy never again saw him alive.

When the Skrulls invaded Earth, Hulkling joined the Young Avengers on the front-lines of the battle. Because he is Skrull royalty, Hulkling attempted to speak with the Skrulls leaders. The Skrulls ignored him and swiftly took him out. He later became targeted for execution by the Skrull Queen because of his royalty. Before he could be executed, Xavin, a Runaway and a Skrull, intervened to save Hulkling's life.

Hulkling, along with the other Young Avengers, helped rescue the fallen from Asgard during the Siege. Together, he and Wiccan also battled the Wrecking Crew.

After Wiccan's powers overloaded and the Avengers decided to keep him under observation, Hulkling and the other Young Avengers broke Wiccan out of holding and began the search for the Scarlet Witch. Accompanied by Magneto and Quicksilver, the team traveled to Transia and then to Latveria before discovering a depowered and amnesiac Wanda engaged to Doctor Doom. The rediscovery of Wanda did not go unnoticed though, as the Avengers soon arrived on the scene. A battle with Doom's Doombot army soon broken out and was only stopped by the arrival of Iron Lad.

Iron Lad teleported the Young Avengers and Wanda into the timestream. They all went into the past, and met reanimated Jack of Hearts, who was to explode. After that, Wanda remembered who she was, regained her powers and returned herself along with the Young Avengers and Scott Lang to the present. She then finally confirmed that Billy and Tommy were indeed her reincarnated sons.

Wanda's increased powers were revealed to be the result of her gaining a connection to the life force itself. A ritual intended to undo the Decimation was interrupted by Patriot, leading to the powers being transferred to Doctor Doom. He intended to turn the world into a utopia, a utopia in that he would rule. The Avengers and X-Men teamed up to defeat him, in the process, Stature was killed by Doom, and the villain escaped after losing his powers when they overloaded.

Iron Lad proposed to save Stature through the time stream, but Vision refused, ending with both of them battling each other and Iron Lad destroying Vision and then taking off to the time stream, even after Wiccan warned that this was the moment in time where he became Kang the Conqueror.

In the aftermath of the battles, the Young Avengers disbanded and stayed in low profile during the major events that transpired in the world (the Spider-Island infestation, the X-Men's Schism and the resurrection of the Human Torch). Billy fell into a severe state of depression, but Teddy brought him out of it by proposing to him. However, their moment of joy was interrupted by Ms. Marvel who called them to the Avengers Mansion. After a few words from Captain America, all the remaining Young Avengers were officially named as full-fledged Avengers.

For a period of time, Wiccan and Hulkling retired from being super-heroes. However, they are unexpectedly brought back into the fray when Wiccan, in an attempt to patch an argument with Hulkling, accidentally let an interdimensional parasite called Mother into their world.

After escaping from Mother, thwarting Skrull impersonating Skifflefuffles, and traveling across the Multiverse to rescue Speed, Hulkling decided to spend sometime away from Wiccan and the Young Avengers to figure out if he really loved Wiccan or it was merely his reality-warping power. He then relocated to Austin, Texas and began meeting with a therapist, Leah. However, Leah was an ally of Mother, who tricked Hulkling into returning to New York City, an occurrence that allowed the parasite to return to the universe.

The rest of the Young Avengers were caught off-guard by Mother's return, and the only hope to stop her was for Wiccan to achieve his full potential as the Demiurge. When the Young Avengers returned to Mother's dimension to stop her, Wiccan tried but failed to turn into the Demiurge. After Hulkling was rescued, Teddy comforted Billy, and reconciled with him. Their reunion allowed Billy to become the Demiurge and destroy Mother, saving the day.

Eventually both Teddy and Billy returned to full-time superheroes when they joined Roberto da Costa's team of New Avengers.
After saving Paris from an epidemy called Life-Minus that engulfed most of the nation and turned living beings into living-dead crystal headed entities, Hulkling and his teammates were at Avengers Island when a group of aliens using both Kree and Skrull technology kidnapped him, taking Wiccan with him by accident. The aliens, like Hulkling, were Kree/Skrull hybrids and called themselves the Knights of the Infinite. They took him to their base, the Forbidden Asteroids, so he could pass a test in order to see if he was truly the chosen one, which was pulling the sword Excelsior from a stone. Hulkling passed the test, and the Knights kneeled before him.

When Hulkling and Wiccan were taken to the Knights' home, Castle Tarnala, they discovered the corpse of M'ryn the Magus possessed by the evil wizard Moridun. Any of their attempts at damaging Moridun were in vain, and the creature soon absorbed enough power to grow in size, destroying the castle from the inside out. Soon afterwards, the rest of the New Avengers showed up and joined the brawl against Moridun, to no avail. After accidentally absorbing an energy blast from Moridun with Excelsior, Hulkling realized he could use it against the evil wizard. The New Avengers distracted Moridun long enough to allow Hulkling to stab him in the face, seemingly killing the creature.

Once the dust settled, the Knights buried those lost to Moridun and allowed Hulkling to leave, explaining that the young hero had a duty to his friends, and he wouldn't be their king if he was capable of abandoning that. Before biding farewell, Lan-Zarr promised that when the time was right, the Knights of the Infinite would fight at his side.

While the New Avengers believed Moridun had been killed and done for, he actually had hidden himself within Wiccan, who was now the Demiurge. Hulkling soon realized how strange his fiancé was acting during a mission in Tokyo. Meanwhile, Roberto and Squirrel Girl were visited by the Avengers from 20XX, which included a future version of Hulkling with the new alias of King Hulk, Iron Mariner, Marvel Woman, Collapsar, and Luke Cage and Jessica Jones's daughter Danielle Cage, who came to the future to prevent Billy from becoming fully the evil Demiurge.

After Hulkling and the other New Avengers returned from Tokyo, Hulkling realized that the people from the future were actually the Avengers. After King Hulk tried to reconcile with Hulkling about Moridun possessing Wiccan, Hulkling soon realized the only person who could actually get Moridun out: Wiccan. Hulkling reached out to Wiccan, which prompted him to fight against Moridun inside his mind. After Moridun was expelled from Wiccan, Hulkling pulled Wiccan into a kiss. With the the terrible future averted, the future Avengers were sent back to their reality, and the timestream was fixed.

When A.I.M. decided to rescue and shelter hacktivist Rick Jones, Sunspot decided to put to vote this decision, which would be considered an act of war against both S.H.I.E.L.D. and the United States. The three members that opposed the idea, Teddy, Billy and Squirrel Girl, were all exiled from the team for their own safety.

This new smaller incarnation of the New Avengers confronted the Plunderer, an adventure after which Hawkeye joined their ranks, and assisted numerous other heroes in fighting the Celestial Destroyer, with Billy helping Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch to banish it.

Once the New Avengers freed A.I.M. agent Songbird from S.H.I.E.L.D. captivity, they assisted A.I.M. in fending off an attack from the New Revengers at their Avenger Base Two in the Savage Land. When Sunspot set out to shut down rogue A.I.M. splinter cells, he requested Wiccan's and Hulkling's help, and lured them to an empty luxurious apartment in Central Park, under the pretense that said location housed the headquarters for one of the cells. When the two young heroes arrived there, they found a note from Sunspot, which revealed the apartment was a parting gift for their help.

With Hawkeye having left the team after being put in trial for the murder of Bruce Banner, and Squirrel Girl deciding to rejoin A.I.M. to keep an eye on Sunspot, Hulkling and Wiccan decided to disband the New Avengers and focus on their personal lives for the time being.

HISTORY:
Helena Wayne is the daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, and was raised to become Batman's eventual successor.

Helena fought alongside her father as Robin. During her father's final moments she defended him from the Batplane by firing upon attack-ing Parademons. She witnessed his death when the tower he was inside exploded. She and her best friend Supergirl entered a Boom Tube in pursuit of someone they thought was Darkseid, and ended up in another universe.

Stranded on Prime Earth, Helena and Kara are forced to adapt to living on a world both similar and different to what they know. Using her knowledge of the workings of Wayne Enterprises, Helena steals money from the company to help establish a life for the two and blend in. During their early days, the two searched for leads on how to return to their Earth. After months of no results, Helena gave up on the search and shifted her focus to fighting crime on Prime Earth. Because Kara disagreed with giving up on going home, the two decided to take their own individual approaches to life on another world. Kara went on to create an R&D company and live as billionaire Karen Starr in the hopes that a means of traveling to other Earths could be created. On the other hand, Helena remained in the shadows, never staying in on place for long and using fake identities (including the alias Helena Bertinelli) so that no one would be aware of her existence. Eventually, she used money periodically stole from her father's company to gather the resources needed to fight crime as a vigilante. Using the name Huntress, Helena spent five years establishing herself as the terror of international crime organizations.

Helena appears in Italy to combat the local mafia after hearing their role in recent kidnappings and slave trading. After doing some minor heroics to an effort to show off, flex and investigate she meets and enjoys the company of two journalists, Alessandro and Christina. Due in part to their reports and her own stolen police reports she tracks down a man called Moretti, who takes kidnapped women for slaves and sells them to the highest bidder.

Robbing Moretti of his fresh cargo and exploding his shipments, Huntress is forced to kill on a few occasions where she's put to the test and had no choice. Unabated, she continues her mission to shut down Moretti and his new allies over the bored of Italy. The Chair-man and Moretti ally to take down their combined threat and devise a plane to lure Huntress into their turf to finish her.

Failing to trick the Huntress, Moretti is killed by her after he fails to make amends for the women he's harmed. Setting her sights on the Chairman and his son, Huntress continues through Italy chasing the last link in the chain of the mafia's extended connections. Finally, she finds the Chairman and takes him out of commission to which she uses this knowledge to manipulate the son. Telling him that he must leave Italy, return the women to their homes and never accost them or he would end up like his father.

Huntress returns to New York City where she runs into trouble with the local police officers who try to stop her plane from letting her off. Almost forced to shoot directly at the officers, Huntress is saved by her friend Supergirl, now using the name Power Girl. The two share a few sorted words before they remark how they should ally once again to better each other's lives.

Eventually, Kara made real progress toward creating a way home after exploiting her relationship with Mr. Terrific to steal data on a device that could create a portal to Earth-2. Helena remained skeptical that it could be done, partly because of her pragmatic nature and partly due to her hesitance at returning to her wartorn world. However, Kara's device was destroyed during the rampage of radioactive villain Hakkou. Though they were able to stop Hakkou's rampage, Kara was forced to put their plans on hold.

Helena's first face-to-face with a hero from Prime Earth was when the current Robin caught her stealing from Wayne Enterprises. Quickly deducing her relation to Batman, Helena was forced to tell him the truth about Earth-2. However, it turns out that Damian was actually following a different thief and never actually knew about Helena. Huntress and Robin decided to team up to catch the other thief, and upon success, Helena made Damian promise not to tell Batman about her existence.

After several other adventures with Power Girl, Helena's world was rocked when someone began attacking her safe-houses around the world. At the same time, someone disguised as Michael Holt began completely took over Kara's company. Realizing the two events were related, the two began tracking the perpetrator. Their search led to the Apokoliptan Desaad, who was stranded on Prime Earth in the same incident that brought her there. After being made, things escalated when Desaad began using his troops to attack Kara's labs around the world and raze more of Helena's safehouses. Their war ceased after Kara got her company back and used the resources to create a machine that could open a portal to Earth-2. After taking a day to enjoy their temporary home and settle their affairs, the two attempted to use the device to return home, but Desaad attacked them, hoping to use the portal for himself. After repelling him, the two entered the portal and made it to Earth-2. Unknown to them both, Desaad managed to enter the portal after them, putting him closer to his master.

After Helena and Kara found their way back to Earth 2, she was unit-ed with her grandfather Thomas Wayne, who was now going under the identity of Batman.

HISTORY:
Maria Bertinelli, the wife of Franco Bertinelli of the Mafia family in Gotham City, was the subject of frequent beatings from her husband, though he was careful never to hit her in the face. Maria began an affair with a man named Santo Cassamento and eventually became pregnant by him. Knowing the unborn child wasn't his, Franco continued to beat his wife throughout her pregnancy. When Maria gave birth to this child of her illicit union, she chose the name Helena Rosa. During the first eight years of Helena's life, she lived in the household of a Mafioso without ever being aware of the criminal dealing which took place there.

When Helena was eight years old, a man barged in to the Bertinelli household during dinner and shot Franco, Maria and Pino Bertinelli, sparing Helena. The hit came from Mandragora who wished for no vendettas against him. Helena's biological father passed the order along with a modification that "the sister" be spared. Santo was referring to Maria, but the gunman confused Maria with Helena and so Helena was spared, though she was not supposed to be.

Helena was placed under the care of her Uncle Tomasso's nephew, Salvatore Asaro. She was taken back to the old country, Sicily, where she would be kept safe and where the family was still strong. When arriving, she was terrified. Helena remained there for a number of years. Watching her cousin and uncle train and practice with weapons and hand-to-hand combat. However, the nightmares stayed with her. One night, her cousin showed her that only she could stop the nightmare by putting an end to those who murdered her family: blood cries for blood. When taken into the barn, she asked her cousin to teach her how, picking up a crossbow on the wall. She trained until the age of fifteen when she was sent to a boarding school in Switzerland to protect her from the Italian authorities who were cracking down on the Mafia. When reading and seeing what was happening, she realized that everything she had been told was a lie about the Mafia. She realized that the Mafia was a force of corruption and evil, and it had been headed by her own family in Gotham City. At age sixteen, she finally returned to Gotham City to spend Christmas with her uncle. However, she hated everyone there. During the party, Helena witnessed her family finally was frightened of something. Batman had crashed the party and fought with them. Inspired by the way Batman frightened and defeated the people she hated, Helena realized that she could fight them too by following his example.

Helena returned to Switzerland for school where she plotted her vengeance. She went to her old house in Sicily (which had since been abandoned as a result of her uncle and cousin being arrested), and took a crossbow and a number of items for her crusade. Enrolling at the university in Palermo, she learned all about the Mafia. She constructed her costume and a number of weapons. She thought herself as a nun, totally devoted to her quest. She returned to Gotham in pursuit of vengeance as the Huntress.

Shortly after beginning her days as a Gotham vigilante, she busted some of Riddler's former henchmen after they stole a large amount of money.

Huntress ended the lives of Mandragora and the assassin who murdered her family. Sometime later, Nightwing and she began a brief romantic relationship while working together on a murder case of a police officer with connections to the Mafia.

During the No Man's Land declaration in Gotham City, she briefly donned the guise of Batgirl to better inspire fear into the criminals of Gotham City, though she would also work in the guise of the Huntress. She began the habit of marking territories in No Man's Land, all of which would be adopted by the criminals and GCPD.

Though Batman knew the entire time that it was Huntress under the cape and cowl, he eventually ordered her to give it up. Batman would give Huntress' Batgirl outfit to Cassandra Cain. Helena continued to be Huntress in No Man's Land, allying herself with a renegade police officer to the point where she assisted in capturing Nightwing and Oracle (though in the end, she helped them escape). On Christmas Eve, the Joker attacked her. Joker shot the Huntress five times that night, but She survived the encounter and fully recovered. In doing so, Helena earned Batman's respect.

To curb Helena's violent attitude, Batman nominated her for a position in the Justice League. However, Batman revoked her membership when she was about to kill Prometheus. After a series of murders which seemingly pointed to her as the killer, Huntress became wanted by Batman and Nightwing. Fortunately for her, she tumbled into the bay where she was picked up and rescued by the Question. She was taken to Canada where she was trained by the Question's sensei for three months. The two then traveled back to Gotham where she shared the story of her becoming the Huntress. The time Question and Huntress spent together sparked a relationship. However, when Huntress discovered who had been framing her, she discovered more then she bargained for. She discovered her true father as being Santo Cassamento and he was responsible for the death of her family. As a result, Helena asked a favor of her Uncle Tomasso. Santo was lured to the docks and was killed by Tomasso's men. The Question did not approve of what Helena had asked, and inquired when the killing would stop. He left her as she threw her golden cross into the water, ending the relationship.

Batman eventually supplied Helena with a new uniform and bike. She would later return the favor by saving his life when he took a fall in Crime Alley by fighting off attackers and putting him into the Batmobile. Huntress remarked in hindsight that he'd never thank her for her heroism. A short time later, the Scarecrow, working with the mysterious Hush, drugged her, and manipulated Helena into attacking Catwoman, who she perceived as her old self. With the aid of Batman, the Scarecrow's drugs wore off and Helena made a full recovery. The Huntress soon found herself allied with Oracle and Black Canary and continued to fight crime in both Gotham City and Metropolis as an official member of the Birds of Prey.

While with the Birds of Prey, Huntress once served with the Outsiders when Arsenal (Roy Harper) was shot five times in the chest and was put out of the line of duty for three months. However, she was at constant odds with Nightwing, despite their past relationship. Immediately after Arsenal was able to serve again, Huntress left the Outsiders.

Fearing that Oracle was manipulating her just like Batman and feeling guilt over her past, Huntress abruptly left the group and returned to Gotham. Using Creote and Savant as backup, she gave an offer to the Mafia saying she wanted in and would eliminate the competition. Barely accepted, she set her plan by setting the mobs against each other. In truth she was gathering information on the mob for Batman to use. Batman confronted her but was pleasantly surprised when Huntress handed her "atlas" to him.

One year after the events of Infinite Crisis, Huntress became the Birds of Prey's field leader following Black Canary's departure from the group. Her replacement heroines include Big Barda and Manhunter. During this time, Huntress redesigned her costume to fully cover her body. She was among those who went with the team to its new base in Platinum Flats, California.

After the team was disbanded, Huntress returned to Gotham and aided the rest of the Batman Family in containing the outbreak of violence in Gotham City. Huntress was put in temporary charge of the network while Nightwing searched for Tim Drake. After Dick became Batman she continued to aid him against Black Mask.

After the apparent death of Bruce Wayne, Helena joined the Network, an alliance composed of most members of the Batman Family, the Birds of Prey, and a handful of their other allies, such as Knight & Squire. As part of the group, she helped Knight and Nightwing against the street gangs of the city. Then, she teamed up with Black Canary to aid Nightwing against I-Am-Batman. She worked with Batgirl and Oracle to break up a lethal gambling game being run by Hugo Strange. Later, she was left in charge of the Network's ground forces by Nightwing when he went to confront I-Am-Batman.

After Dick Grayson became Batman, Huntress continued in her vigilante activities. One day, she ran into a crazed Man-Bat, and pursued him in an attempt to stop him from harming any civilians. She had resolved to kill him before his actions caused greater havoc, but discovered that Man-Bat was hunting a killer, and was not just going on a rampage. She eventually wound up teaming with him and Batman to take down this killer, who had the ability to turn invisible. The timely actions of a shotgun toting priest allowed them to capture the killer.

Oracle gathered the Birds of Prey back together in Gotham. Helena initially displays anger towards Oracle over her perceived abandonment of the team in order to help train the new Batgirl, but nonetheless tearfully accepts her offer. Huntress then aides Black Canary (who had now left the Justice League), in a battle against a new villainess calling herself the White Canary.

HISTORY:
The super-being that would become known as Hyperion is a native of Earth-712, who was the last surviving member of a race of Eternals. Although the circumstances are unknown, Hyperion was adopted by the Milton family who raised him as their adopted son Mark Milton. Mark was raised with a strong moral code and eventually became the super-hero named Hyperion, after the Greek Titan. As an adult he moved to the city of Cosmopolis, New Troy and took up a job as a cartoonist for a news publication as well as starting a relationship with fellow reporter Lonni Lattimer.

During his early career as a hero, Hyperion clashed with villains such as Emil Burbank, and also formed a lasting friendship with fellow costumed hero Nighthawk and joined him and others in forming the Squadron Supreme, a league of heroes that fought for justice on their Earth. In his adventures with the Squadron, Hyperion clashed with such foes as the Institute of Evil and the Scarlet Centurion. During one such battle Hyperion and the other members of the Squadron were manipulated as pawns in a Contest of Champions between the Centurion and Earth-616's Grandmaster, where they were pitted against the Institute of Evil. The Squadron won this battle — however, it would inspire the Grandmaster to create his own Earth-616 version of the group called the Squadron Sinister, including an artificial construct of Hyperion.

This would not be Hyperion's last encounter with beings from Earth-616: shortly thereafter he met the Avengers, heroes native to Earth-616 who were accidentally transported to Earth-712. With the Squadron, Hyperion worked together with the Avengers in stopping Brainchild from causing the destruction of the Earth.

Hyperion and the other Squadron members ended up in a series of exploits that had their wills subjugated by a higher power, usually forcing them to clash with heroes from Earth-616. In the first such attempt, the Squadron Supreme were put under the control of President Nelson Rockefeller who was then being manipulated by the Serpent Crown of Earth-712. In a bid to take over the universe with his Serpent Cartel Rockefeller worked with Earth-616's Hugh Jones C.E.O. of the Roxxon Oil Company. This led to Hyperion and the Squadron Supreme clashing once more with the Avengers. The Avengers however freed the Squadron from the Serpent Crown's influence, and crushed the Cartel's influence over the government of Earth-712, leaving it in the Squadron's hands while they disposed of both Serpent Crowns on Earth-616.

When movie producers on Earth-712 began making a film based on the adventures of the Squadron Supreme, Hyperion traveled to Earth-616 to ask the Avengers to participate in the film. Hyperion only found Thor and the two ended up in a plot orchestrated by Emil Burbank and the evil Hyperion of Earth-616 to get the two to clash with one another. When the truth was learned, Hyperion and Thor defeated both foes together.

Hyperion and the Squadron were once more manipulated by the Overmind and Null the Living Darkness. This came at a time when Nighthawk, in his identity of Kyle Richmond was President of the United States. Overmind and Null took over the entire world and spun it into utter chaos, using the Squadron Supreme as their elite force. The Squadron and their world were freed from Overmind and Null's tyranny by the intervention of the Defenders from Earth-616.

With their world left in chaos, Hyperion decided that the Squadron needed to gain control of the entire world. Meeting with the other Squadron members, Hyperion suggested that the group take on the task of protecting the world on a larger scope. Inspired by fellow Squadron member Power Princess' people of Utopia Isle, Hyperion suggested that they tackle the real evils of the world: crime, poverty, hunger, and even death. They decided to begin what was dubbed the Utopia Project, in the belief that their work would turn Earth into a Utopia. Believing that interfering with peoples lives in such a way to be unethical, Nighthawk quit the group. During the night, Kyle Richmond stepped down as President of the United States, Hyperion and the Squadron all unmasked, revealing their true identities to the world as an act of good faith to get the people on their side and on the side of the Utopia Program. During this public announcement, Hyperion unknowingly came very close to being shot by Richmond with a bullet made out of Argonite, the one substance that is lethal to him, however Kyle could not bring himself to pull the trigger.

Hyperion aided the Squadron in restoring basic human commodities, breaking up looting and protecting the world from threats such as the Scarlet Centurion and the Institute of Evil. During this time, the Squadron also took away the world's firearms, replacing them with non-lethal weapons such as force-field devices and energy pistols that encased their targets in spheres. The Squadron also created cryogenic devices to keep the terminally ill frozen until such a time they could be restored to life and cured of their ailments. Most controversial of all was the B-Mod machine, a device that removed the criminal tendencies of those who were arrested. Although this device was only used on a voluntarily basis, a number of the Squadron members quit the group after its purpose was abused. As Hyperion aided the Squadron in B-Modding their enemies, the Institute of Evil and other villains, Nighthawk recruited a team of villains and Squadron defectors to try and stop Hyperion's Utopia Program.

Fearing that he would be subject to the B-Mod machine, Hyperion's old foe Emil Burbank - now calling himself Master Menace - pulled the evil Hyperion of Earth-616 from a dimension limbo and contrived a scheme to replace the Earth-712 Hyperion with his doppelganger. Trapping the real Hyperion in the same limbo dimension, Burbank's plot succeeded until the evil Hyperion fell in love with Power Princess and started a relationship with her after he secretly killed her elderly husband. The evil Hyperion then trapped Burbank in the limbo reality with the real Hyperion. The old foes worked together to free themselves, and in a battle to the death Hyperion ultimately killed his evil duplicate. The battle was not without a personal loss for Hyperion, as the overtaxing of his atomic vision caused his retinas to burn out, leaving him blind. However he was equipped with special glasses that allowed him to see for a time.

Later, Nighthawk and his Redeemers infiltrated the Squadron Supreme and then staged an attack on their compound in an attempt to dismantle the Utopia Program. The battle ended with many casualties, Nighthawk included, who managed to convince Hyperion of the errors in creating the Utopia Program, in that while their intentions were good eventually someone would abuse it for their own selfish ends. With his best friend dead, Hyperion surrendered the Squadron Supreme to the Redeemers and the Utopia Program was dismantled.

While the Squadron was trapped on Earth-616 after their battle with the Nth Man, the blind Hyperion met Quasar and Makkari. Makkari noted that Hyperion was of a similar race to the Eternals and instructed him on using his body's energy to heal his blindness.

After numerous adventures on Earth-616, the Squadron Supreme, working with the Avengers and their associates Swordsman and Magdalene, and the Project Pegasus staff utilized a recovered Nth Projector to return the Squadron to their home reality, where they discovered that their Earth was taken over by the Global Directorate. After several Squadroners were injured, the original members banded together with the son of the original Nighthawk and a returned Skrullian Skymaster to try and undo the damage done to their world in their absence.

In recent times, Hyperion was called to the Panoptichron, a crystal palace connected to the multiverse, by Beak, a mutant from Earth-616 who was then a member of the reality jumping Exiles, to help his teammates battle an evil Hyperion from Earth-4023 who intended to use the Panoptichron to take over the multiverse. With the aid of a Hyperion from Earth-5764 and the Exiles, Hyperion succeeded in sending his evil alternate universe counterpart back to his home reality. When both good Hyperions expressed their concern about leaving the Panoptichron in the care of the Exiles it was Beak who once more convinced them to leave.

This was not Hyperion's last encounter with the Exiles: When Proteus of Earth-58163 (then in the body of Hulk (John Eisenhart) of Earth-6375) arrived on Earth-712 fleeing the Exiles, he convinced Hyperion and the Squadron that the Exiles had been abusing their responsibility, and then fled to reality Earth-9200. Hyperion and the Squadron clashed with the Exiles before Proteus' trick was revealed. Not entirely sure that the Exiles were able to handle Proteus on their own, Hyperion sent Power Princess to join their ranks and put a stop to the mutant serial killer's reality jumping.

Most recently, Hyperion was among the members of the Squadron Supreme pulled to Earth-31916, home to an alternate reality version of the Squadron and got involved with their counterpart and a combined force of heroes from Earth-1610 to prevent the destruction of Earth-31916.

When Hyperion's reality started suffering an an ongoing cataclysm of unknown origin which threatened to destroy the Earth, Hyperion insisted for Zarda to use a portal to escape their homeworld's destruction, as there was only time for one person to enter it. Zarda, at first, protested against this action; however, Hyperion told her to go and remember their life and team as Zarda entered the portal, leaving him to die.
