Re: Jab's Builds! (Vile! Mega Man X5 & X7! Zero! Axl! Sigma!)

Post by Jabroniville »

It's kinda funny watching, like two months of work get posted up in less than a week. But then, I figured it needed to be this way. Doing all of the Mavericks, one after the other, for the week it would have taken would've been excruciating, since it's so much Template-based stuff. Doing one or two builds a day (skipping sometimes) made things much easier. Not enough in a row to get bored of doing them. I'd started this in September or October sometime, planning on getting them done around December. I hadn't anticipated getting them finished right around Christmas, however.

So I'll be done posting these as of tomorrow. Your Christmas present will be 2-3 days of Primal Rage builds (now featuring the unreleased sequel's characters!). I dunno how busy this place will be around then. But after THAT comes the Gargoyles builds. Largely re-posts, though I stick in Odin & The Banshee, and play around with a couple of statlines. Much of the commentary will be all-new- you all know how much more verbose I've gotten :).

Mega Man X8

Post by Jabroniville »

MEGA MAN X8:
-The eighth, and FINAL, game in the Mega Man X series, this one came out in 2004. After the negative reception of Mega Man X7, the designers wisely dropped the "3-D Gameplay" aspect, merely keeping the polygonal graphics, but having the game take place in two dimensions, but with depth for backgrounds and the like. In this game, we see the return of Vile, and we learn that a new, improved version of Reploids who were Maverick-proof are in fact able to go Maverick. The reception of this game was more positive than for its predecessor, but it was indeed the last in the entire series. Capcom has since left the Mega Man property to languish somewhat, focusing on retrospective "remake" games, spin-offs and things like that.

Total: Abilities: 38 / Skills: 26--13 / Advantages: 24 / Powers: 40 + 28 / Defenses: 12 (155)

-This is a curious, alien-like design, with awkward-looking limbs and a fishbowl-head. Gigabolt Man-O-War's stage is a Speederbike level, but shot from behind- one of the only 3-D stages in the game.

Weakness (Electrical Attacks)- Avalanche Yeti takes extra damage from Gigabolt Man-O-War's attacks.

Total: Abilities: 40 / Skills: 28--14 / Advantages: 24 / Powers: 41 + 26 / Defenses: 12 (157)

-Avalanche Yeti, who is clearly a SNOWMAN (well, robot snowman) is the silliest looking villain of Mega Man X8. The battle takes place in a snow-laden room, which allows him to burrow beneath you. His entire stage is basically a "Speederbike Level", but with the view from behind. Beating him gives X a Blast or a Touch-Range Snare (if Charged), while Axl gains a Multiattack Blast/Freeze attack- easily the most expensive power any Mega Man character receives from a villain!

Bestows the:
"Charged Shot" Snare 8 (Extras: Reaction +3) (Flaws: Touch Range, Non-Cumulative, Source- Full-Round Charge) (24) -- [25]
  • AE: "Drift Diamond" Damage 8 (Feats: Split) (17)

Total: Abilities: 38 / Skills: 26--13 / Advantages: 24 / Powers: 40 + 27 / Defenses: 12 (154)

-Optic Sunflower somehow looks even stupider than you would think a guy named "Optic Sunflower" would look. Being clearly voiced by a woman doesn't help.

Defenses:
Dodge +11 (DC 21), Parry +11 (DC 21), Toughness +9, Fortitude --, Will +7

Complications:
Motivation (Anti-Human)

Total: Abilities: 62 / Skills: 24--12 / Advantages: 24 / Powers: 41 / Defenses: 8 (147)

-These are the various Sub-Bosses of the Mega Man X series.

Image

VIOLEN- PL 10 (172): "Pellets" Blast 8 (Multiattack), Morningstar +1 [25]
SERGES- PL 10 (167): "Energy Shot" Blast 8, Equipment 4 (Mines- Time Triggered Blast 8) [20]
AGILE- PL 10 (158): "Laser Whip" Blast 8, Strength-Damage +1 [11]
-This trio appear in Mega Man X2 as Optional Sub-Bosses. Failing to defeat them with their weakness means you fight them in the Final Level, but with upgraded gear (such as Serges in a giant tank). Violen is weak against Bubble Splash, Serges the Sonic Slicer, and Agile the Magnet Mine.

DYNAMO- PL 10 (158): "D-Blade" Blast 8 (Homing), Strength-Damage +3 (Inaccurate) [11]
-A mercenary who works for Sigma in Mega Man X5, and reappears as a Hidden Boss in the next game. He isn't as evil as the other villains, but is rather amoral.

BIT- PL 10 (164): "Homing Meteor" Blast 8 (Homing) [17]
BYTE- PL 10 (163): ST +1, Protection +1, FIGHTING -1, Dodge -1, "Fist Throw" Blast 8 [16]
-Bosses in Mega Man X3. Bit is fast and agile, while Byte is stronger and easier to hit.

Image

GARETH- PL 10 (163): Defenses -1, Shield +1 Defenses, "Javelin" Blast 8 [16]
BERKANA- PL 10 (172): "Energy Spheres" Affliction 8 (Defenses or Ranged Accuracy; Impaired & Hindered/Disabled & Defenseless) (Ranged, Extra Condition, Limited Degree), AE: Blast 8 [25]
-Bosses in Mega Man Xtreme 2. Gareth faces Zero, while Berkana faces X. Berkana's Energy Spheres are interesting, because ones with "B" on them disable the "B" button on the Game Boy, while "A" Spheres disable the "A" button. This makes X either extremely vulnerable, or unable to shoot.

DOUBLE- PL 10 (173): Energy Blast 8, Energy Slash +2, Morph 1 (Chubby Robot Form), Deception +6 [26]
-A double agent who acts as a rookie Maverick Hunter, but reveals a secret form and personality near the end of Mega Man X4. Hitting him with Double Cyclone hurts him more, but makes the battle MORE difficult, as it sends pieces of his body flying all over the room. Crowded rooms are AWFUL in Mega Man Boss Fights.

Image

GENERAL- PL 11 (174): Growth 4, FIGHTING -1, Energy Blast 10, AE Cone Damage 9 [27]
-General is the leader of Repliforce, a band of good-guy Reploids in Mega Man X4, but is tragically fooled by Sigma into turning on humanity.

COLONEL- PL 10 (175): Energy Blast 8 (Indirect- Below, Multiattack), Speed 2, Teleport 4 (Change Direction) [28]
-Colonel is Iris's brother and General's #2, and killing him drives her mad with grief, and she attempts to kill Zero.

IRIS:
-Iris has little in the way of combat capability, but she is the sister of Colonel, and attacks Zero when he dies. This leads to Zero killing her in battle, and giving the ultimate incident of Terrible Anime Voice Acting, the infamous "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!?!!?" line.

LUMINE- PL 13 (202): Ranged Attack +2, FIGHTING +2, Dodge +2, Toughness +11 [10]
Form 1: "Gravity Antonion's Power" Blast 8 (Indirect- From Above), "Earthrock Trilobyte's Power" Create 5 Linked to Blast 8, "Avalanche Yeti's Power" Blast 8 (From Above, Multiattack), "Optic Sunflower's Power" Blast 10 (Multiattack), "Dark Mantis's & Bamboo Pandamonium's Powers" Strength-Damage +6, "Gigabolt Man-O-War's Power" (Elec. Damage to Multiattack Blasts), "Burn Rooster's Power" Damage 9 (Line) (36)
Form 2: Blast 12 (Multiattack), "Grave" Blast 10 (From Above), Teleport 6 (Change Direction), "Bel Canto" Burst Damage 11, "Form 1" Morph (Metamorph) [45]
-Lumine is the TRUE last boss of Mega Man X8, and attacks in his first form with all the previous Mavericks's attacks, then takes a Final Form with much more raw power. He faces off against X, Zero and Axl SIMULTANEOUSLY, so is more powerful than Sigma himself.

I'm so glad you're doing the Zero bosses too. Like I said before, the Zero games are good, but they really turned up the dificulty dial compared to the X games, making it more on Classic's level of difficulty. They have some pretty good boss designs, but are generally more slender and streamlined than the Mavericks that came before, because of the different artstyle. (and I suppose the fact that it's many years in the future)

Mega Man Zero

Post by Jabroniville »

MEGA MAN ZERO:
-The games involve the aftermath of something called "The Elf Wars", which featured 90% of all Reploids and 60% of all humans dying in a masssive conflict following the end of the Maverick Wars. The evil Dr. Weil sought power by corrupting the "Mother Elf" (whose energy destroyed Sigma once and for all) and her armies, turning her into the Dark Elf. X & Zero saved the world, with X giving up his body in order to seal the Dark Elf once and for all.

yeah, I considered skipping them, but I wiki-built them instead, since they're on-theme.
