He may be one ninja too many, but purple is still a proper bitching color.

Komplications:
Motivation (Power)- Rain betrayed his own race to Outworld because they refused him command of his own army. His arrogance and thirst for power know no bounds.
Responsibility (Son of Argus)- Argus is the chief God of Edenia, and is Rain's birth father. This means he has familial connections to Taven, Daegon and others.
Total: Abilities: 68 / Skills: 42--21 / Advantages: 16 / Powers: 20 / Defenses: 12 (137)
Jesus, What a Waste:
-Rain sucks even more than Ermac in terms of appearance and name (an elaborate pun on a famous singer... he's Purple, his name is Rain, and he's a Prince of Edenia. Though what a wasted opportunity for a good Peter Gabriel joke by not making him the red guy), but has much more backstory, though he initially appeared only as a red herring- an implied "Secret Kharacter" who was actually not in the game at all. It turned out in subsequent games that Rain is another Edenian, much like Kitana & Sindel, but he's the abandoned son of a God-King and some mistress who willingly allied with Shao Kahn in order to spare his own life. He turns on the Emperor eventually after discovering that Kahn murdered his adoptive father, but he's a bad guy in Armageddon, after he skipped three games. Didn't stop him from being a disposable henchman in MK: Annihilation, however (Kahn even pulled the "You Have Failed Me" thing and offed his own henchman!).
-Rain is kind of inexplicably a Lin Kuei design in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, his debut game- this is when they were basically just filling in new slots for the games, and re-introducing the ninja design after fan backlash against MK 3 scrapping them entirely and making Cyber-Ninjas instead. So in the additional versions of the game (the Arcades got a handful of updates, while the SNES, Genesis and other systems each got a final version, too), we suddenly saw Scorpion and Reptile make comebacks in ninja form, plus a few other new guys.
New Kontinuity:
-The updated 2011 series retains his "Lost Prince of Edenia" origin story, but drops the Lin Kuei design entirely (as it never made sense in the first place). He's an Edenian whose father was a general slaughtered by Shao Kahn's invasion, and is then raised by the Edenian Resistance. He is an elite, but arrogant, fighter, and betrayed his people when denied a command of his own, joining Shao Kahn's army! He only turns on Kahn when it's revealed that the Emperor had killed his adoptive father- he plots a suicide attack, but it never comes to pass. He doesn't appear in Mortal Kombat X except as an NPC. He discovers that he's the son of the mythical Argus, and declares himself a God, allying with Empress Mileena, but revealing that he's deceptive and wants the throne himself, before a side-character beats him up and he disappears from the narrative, never having mattered to it. It's a bit odd, as most of the useless side-characters are playable in this version, with only unpopular Rain being stuck doing nothing. Rain is a late DLC entrant into MK 11.
Rain's Stats:
-Rain's whole thing is controlling water and electricity, though his attacks had some unique aspects to them ("Mind Control Orb" being the only thing like it in Mortal Kombat). Not sure how he could ALSO control lightning, but they were obviously scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas once the SIXTH Lin Kuei ninja's time was there. Rain can use Juggle Kombos like nuts in the later MK 3 games too, since his Roundhouse can knock a guy across the screen and back through the other side.
-I was given some negative feedback for making Rain a mere PL 8 (compared to the teens Yun & Yang from Street Fighter III, who are PL 9s), because he's unpopular, because the 2011 reboot gave him this big Power-Geek opening by beating up all the characters, but f*ck that noise- that's pure New Villain Stink in a character so useless that he couldn't even make the subsequent games in EITHER generation of Mortal Kombat. As always, you get more credit the more games in which you appear, and Rain only exists in his debut game (a late version of MK 3, Armageddon (a game that deliberately included EVERYONE), and the 2011 reboot, which again used everyone from the first three games, regardless of importance. Seriously- f*ck Rain.
