Re: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
The use of displaced color layers was an interesting way of handling depth of vision blur. I liked the film as well.
Re: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
I loved Spider-Ham beating the crap out of Scorpion.
Re: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
I watched it last night and it was... gloriously weird.
The story worked, most of the interactions between the various Spider-whatever were silly but pretty much on point. I agree with Ares that having 616 Peter being that low was kind of a bummer, but it served the context of the movie, so I can live with that.

Re: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Despite the numbering in the movie, I don't think that was supposed to be 616 Peter, but rather one based on the movies, primarily the Raimi ones.
One of the nice touches in the film is the use of blonde hair to indicate that the Spider-Man of Miles's universe wasn't the 616 Spider-Man either (although that was obvious for anyone familiar with the Ultimate line).

The blonde hair seemed like a nod to Ben Reilly.FuzzyBoots wrote: ↑Wed Dec 26, 2018 3:00 pmDespite the numbering in the movie, I don't think that was supposed to be 616 Peter, but rather one based on the movies, primarily the Raimi ones.

Re: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Good point. That might even be strengthened by the in-universe comic identifying him as "Billy" (and showing him with darker hair).
Re: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Like I said, Spider-Man Noir might be my favorite part of the movie. And for some reason, it never clicked that it was Nick Cage voicing him until the movie was over.
Spider-Man Noir: "Hey, fellas."
Miles Morales: "Is he in black and white?"
Peter Parker: "Where is that wind coming from, we’re in a basement?"
Spider-Man Noir: "Wherever I go, the wind follows. And the wind smells like rain."
Spider-Man Noir: "Okay, little fella, Kingpin’s gonna send a lot of mugs after ya, I’m talking hard boys, real biscuit boxers. Can you fight them all off at once?"
Miles: "Well, I, I haven’t actually fought anyone—"
Spider-Man Noir: "Surprise attack!" (knocks down Miles)
Peni Parker: "Can you re-wire a mainframe while being shot at?"
Miles: "Can I what?"
Peni Parker: "Show me!"
Spider-Man Noir: "Surprise attack!"
Spider-Gwen: "Can you swing and flip with the grace of a trained dancer?"
Spider-Man Noir: "Can you close off your feelings so you don’t get crippled by the moral ambiguity of your violent actions?"
Spider-Man Noir: "Sometimes I let matches burn all the way to my fingertips just so I can feel something! Anything!"
I wish I could find the line where he compliments Miles about having a dark origin story.

I have to admit, the "spider-cave" was strange, but not as much as seeing aunt May playing Nick Fury.
Re: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Something I just realized: Most hat wearing action heroes need to handwave the fact that their hat doesn't get blown off their head the second the fighting starts as "action movie physics". Not Spider-Man Noir. He can literally just say "I'm using my clinging powers to keep it on my head.

My old Indiana Jones build had a feature power that read "always gets his hat back".Ares wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 9:54 pm Something I just realized: Most hat wearing action heroes need to handwave the fact that their hat doesn't get blown off their head the second the fighting starts as "action movie physics". Re: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Well it's officially a bomb. So they claim (because they never admit the true cost of a film) that it cost 90m. I had heard that they then spent more than the usual 50%, and actually almost DOUBLED the cost for market, ads space, articles so on and so forth, so we're looking at 180m total, ish.
OK, so it made 281m total gross. Now, we need to cut that in half because of the cut that theatres and cinemas take. In China, it's closer to 80, in America it's like 30-40. So let's be nice and cut it in two. It just made 140m total, if we're being generous. Proving once again, that no one wants to see some whiny Black kid pretend to be someone he's not. Because every movie goer knows that Spider-Man is Peter Parker.
And I'm pretty sure, I'm not the only one who rolled his eyes at this fake with the name Parker. His entire EXISTENCE as a Superhero is built off guilt. He'd never give it up, ever. More likely, Parker would be dead.
However, that's my opinion given what I've seen of the trailers. I refuse to see it in theatres simply because I don't willingly give terrorists my money.
And Socialism has ALWAYS ended in starvation and then genocide. Germany proved this, Russia proved this, most of the Middle East is proving this... You can't just say, "Well HISTORY is just wrong."

I'm sorry to know that you carry such a hatred towards a film you haven't seen. And that's an interesting set of adjustments on money coming in versus money coming out. Do you have any sort of sources or is that a back-of-envelope calculation?
And... socialism? I'm failing to see the tie to the film. Did you accidentally paste a different post in?

He's talking about a lot of stuff in the first page, where the director apparently was an Antifa supporter. Which was my fault for bringing it up, and honestly shouldn't have been included. At some point in the middle of last year I reached a sort of peak frustration with what I saw as things like various political elements being shoehorned into media, and changing pre-existing franchises and creative IP to promote an agenda. I've mellowed out since then and have generally been trying to dial that down, because while I don't want to outright ban discussion of politics, I don't want them to really be the focus of this place.FuzzyBoots wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 3:00 pm And... socialism? The big rule for Echoes is that everyone treat each other with respect, and that anything is open for debate so long as both sides are respectful to one another, and that it respects the wishes of the thread starter. And as someone with my own collection of dead horses that I've beaten into compost, and if they derail threads, I'd rather the thread starter tell me to knock it off or delete said post if it starts to become the only thing I bring up in every topic I appear in.
As such, I'm going to ask that the politics of the director be ignored from this point on and that the discussion focus solely on the merits of the film itself, good and bad.

No problem! I paid to watch it five times, so they won't even notice that you didn't!Chris Brady wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 11:03 amHowever, that's my opinion given what I've seen of the trailers. I refuse to see it in theatres simply because I don't willingly give terrorists my money.
